The first thing I notice is this seems like fine dining Asian food. Looking from the outside I was very confused as to what this restaurant serves. After looking at the menu, I was even more confused if this was Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and the list goes on. Setting my reservations aside. I order the most basic dishes, beef and broccoli, and beef chow fun. Considering that I eat Chinese food every day growing up. It was meh, nothing to rave about. I have to say, for close to $20 dollars per plate. You are paying for the service and not the food. The waiter came by all the time, filled our water before it even hits the halfway mark. Though the restaurant inside was somewhat dim, mimicking a fine dining experience. It felt more dark and dirty. I would love to see this place get an update on the inside. And find something they are good at, and go towards that. There's a small Chinese restaurant across the street, that serves authentic Chinese for half the price and better. read more

When I am in the mood to pick up a fast nigiri platter I swing by Genghix. I know this place gets in fish almost daily as I have seen them cutting it up. They have good sushi and the portions are good but the prices have exceeded the food. The roll prices are expensive for most of them except the most basic of rolls. Their menu is extensive and I have always found the fish to be decent but not over the top incredible. Another price hike and I'm going to be moving to Isushi which is a big step above in creativity and unique fish but was way higher in price...not so much today. After eating here for years, it has been consistent. Always great service, fast service and I have never had an order screwed up here, but the sushi grade is not as high as it could be for the price. We love this place and come pretty regularly, most often for their lunch specials which end at 3, I think. My boyfriend usually gets the warrior chicken and I usually get a sushi bento box. And then we'll order a plate of the garlic string beans, so good! I also love their honey walnut prawns but even their house salad is delicious (it's the dressing). A couple of times I've brought people here and have ordered other items and have never been disappointed. They also built a full bar not too long ago, but I have yet to order a cocktail. I came back after 2 years the 2nd for lunch with a friend who is a regular here. The rolls were pricey so I went for a bento box: TERIYAKI SALMON & CA ROLLS - $8 This came with a yummy salad that has this miso glaze dressing and fried won ton strips that was amazing! If you like your salads sweet then you'll love this! It also came with a generic miso soup which was fine, some white rice I didn't bother eating, 2 fried spicy tuna roll pieces topped with sweet and sour sauce, which was also yummy! The CA Rolls was pretty generic too, which I still enjoy! I mean, you can't mess up CA rolls, right? The teriyaki salmon was yummy and sweet! I have been here a few times and I enjoy their pad thai with veggies no meat and it was pretty good. My mother ordered the lemon chicken and it seriously tastes like lemony donut crusted chicken, which is not a bad thing at all! It was really tasty and we shared it and took some to go as well. My most recent experience was last week and they had the delicious lemon chicken (don't order if you don't like sweet, this is not tart), miso soup which was surprisingly good it had a nice depth of flavor. I also ordered the sweet and sour tofu which was excellent. The tofu had bell peppers, onions and pineapple and was super good, I even took some home to freeze (tofu changes once frozen and thawed and has a more chicken-esque texture). I will definitely come back when I'm in the area, I just wish that they had a few more chicken and tofu items. It is quite heavy on the seafood so if you like seafood you'll probably love it here. read more

I dunno.... I'm a little torn on liking this place. This once super buffet has morphed into to a sit down bistro! Kinda funny to see and I honestly wasn't expecting much. But when we walked in, I have to admit I was impressed with the ambiance! Where were we? The menu was pretty impressive, I liked the food categories; beginnings, nourishings, from the land, from the sea and then SUSHI! We started with Crab Wonton, followed by the O My God roll then the Panko Crusted Tilapia. The OMG roll was definitely that! OMG! Loved the unagi, salmon, jalepeno, mystery sauce, sesame seeds and sprout. It was a party in my mouth! The tilapia was good. Had a crispy texture that made the fish juicy. The black rice complimented the dish well along with the sweet mango chutney and spinach. Service was great, food was a little more than decent. I haven't been to this restaurant. Formerly, it was an Asian buffet type restaurant and you know nothing good comes out of all you can eat buffet. so my date wanted to meet here. Inside it has a pleasant atmosphere though I can easily get noisy. We each ordered a bento box. I had the tempura and sashimi bento and my date had the salmon and tempura bento. Although I had little expectation, the food was a big let down. The bento is as fundamental for a Japanese Asian fusion restaurant. The bento comes with miso soup, salad, an orange slice with the entrees. Overall, the bento was generous from a quantity perspective. Firstly, the sashimi did not taste fresh. Fortunately, there were only four small pieces. Surprisingly I did not get food poisoning. Next the tempura was thick in batter so I ate mostly batter. The miso and salad were alright. My date was kind. She ate half of her bento and boxed the rest. The service was fine. The wait person came often to fill our water glasses. This restaurant is in the town I live and it would be great to have a place to recommend but I cannot. Man I really don't like writing bad reviews but I have to be honest. Very nice set up, staff was friendly but the sushi quality was not the best. Both rolls tasted very bland with little to none flavor. Even the fish quality was poor. I got the 49er and Big kahuna and was left super disappointed. The color of the salmon was a very light orange which I wasn't use to im use to seeing super bright orange color and unlike your typical 49er it was stuffed with just slices of cucumber that were very stiff. The big kahuna was slightly better but lacked much flavor. I also order a house salad and on my first bite the lettuce was super soggy and brown. The best sushi roll I've ever had is the lobster volcano roll at Genghix. I've enjoyed all the sushi I've had there. Oh! And check the specials board for uni or their amazing kobe beef sushi. So amazing. It's an Asian fusion place so you can order Singapore noodles (yummy) or even garlic spinach noodles (also recommended) to go with your sushi. It's a very large menu, so start with items you've seen recommended on Yelp. Even that gives you a ton of options to choose from. They also have really amazing sea bass. So decadent, tender - flaking off in moist mouthfulls that never disappoint. They serve alcohol (beer, wine, mixed drinks, even flights of sake) and offer really good desserts. Came here for the first time ever because I had bookmarked Isushi BUT I was too hungry and they were too expensive. I will try them when I'm not so hungry. Moving on... this place looked dead on the outside but was on and poppin inside. Our waiters were so polite and quick to return to the table. We tried the salt and pepper tofu and vegetable tempura for appetizers and wow ! Light ad airy ! Crisp and flavorful. My friend and I were super surprise at how good those two items came out. I ordered two rolls and some tamagoyaki and she ordered and chirashi bowl. It was OK, but not memorable it in anyway. The teriyaki salmon was a very small portion and loaded with teriyaki sauce. The walnut prawns were pretty good but over battered. Even my cranberry/orange juice was flat. For a party of six, the bill came to almost $150, which included gratuity.....first off, I don't like the idea of supplementing wages for restaurant workers but to actually factor the gratuity into the bill is a bit ,,,presumptuous??...secondly, $145 for something that's comparative to frozen food quality shouldn't cost that much. WOW!! I was completely surprised at how great this place is! The sushi was delicious and everything tasted fresh. I had been craving sushi for a while and was recommended to Genghix from a friend. I opted for the white tuna sashimi appetizer, an assorted nigiri platter, the jalapeño poppers stuffed with spicy tuna, and topped off with a couple of orders of hamachi nigiri topped with jalapeño & ponzu *chef's kiss*. Peking ribs was ok but had bone shards in most pieces. And lastly the Thai basil chicken (more mushrooms than anything) was like goop. They should stick to one cuisine and work on that. I had heard of this restaurant recently from my father who had heard of this place advertisement on one of the Chinese radio stations. So, my parents and I decided to eat here earlier today for lunch on our way back from Oakland. From the outside of it, it looks very unusual. Definitely much different from a typical Asian restaurant. The same is said inside. Miranda is absolutely correct about this place as this place has both Chinese food and sushi. After all, it is an Asian Fusion restaurant. The three of us ordered several things off of the lunch special and regular menu. There was one other that was ordered off from their daily special. The Shrimp Chow Mein first arrived as too salty, so we asked that it be taken back and redone. It came back a few minutes later and the result was much better. The Whispering Waves was very good. It has several different types of sashimi, which is good for those who likes to have Japanese food and aren't familiar with what particular sashimi is good. The Kobe Beef Sushi was definitely interesting with the beef on the top of the rice. Just wish that the beef was cooked better as it was hard to chew. Finally, the fresh oyster was good. Only downside was that it was tiny. It is definitely a great place to go, especially if you are new to the whole concept of Asian Fusion food. read more
