I order my salads from here all the time. Have never really been disappointed. This is my go to place when wanting a good salad or a quick slice or the two together. My only complaint is the pricing, because we eat here so often, but the customer service behind the front desk and on the phone is fantastic, so it's worth it to come back. The only girl who works there, is there about everyone I order and recommended I try dipping the bread in the balsamic dressing, so I said oh that sounds amazing, and on my next order there was balsamic dressing in the bag.... and I know how it got there. They do go above and beyond with customer service and with their food. Not every time is it the freshest piece of lettuce, but those are easy to pick out! We used to use Gencarelli's for our catering needs. They were fine for that. We used to also order pizza pies for delivery. This is where it went downhill. The pies were either overcooked and burnt on the bottom or undercooked with the cheese sliding off. We gave them many, many chances to get it right. My husband used to order various items for delivery at work. Orders were either incorrect or the salads were mainly iceberg lettuce and skimpy with toppings. Sadly, we stopped going here. read more

You can't help but be impressed with how Juliana, the Manager and Staff go out of their way to make sure that you have an exceptionally fantastic experience. The food that was delivered was authentic Italian cooking, with all the right taste and balance of great Italian spices and flavor. I know people who ate there on New Years eve, and also had a fantastic time. We had several Italian dishes including Chicken Parm, Francese, Marsala, Eggplant, several pasta dishes, and even some Pizza. The food was actually pretty good (the pizza crust bread was tasty) but the service was awfully slow. When I asked one of the girls behind the counter what the holdup was after about 40 minutes I was told they were busy with call ins and deliveries - served with a side of attitude. So I guess the moral is if you want their food don't use the restaurant because it doesn't get priority. I placed a delivery order at 4:15pm and it got here at 7:20pm. I had to call them at 6pm (the estimated delivery was between 5:25-5:35) to find out that they forgot about my order and was told it'd be another hour and 15 mins minimum before I would get my food. I feel cheated! I love their food however the reason why I gave them 3 star is beacuse when you use a groupon their quantity of food completely changes. I have been going to this restaurant since they converted. The moment you mention you have a groupon or coupon they give you half of their normal quantity of food. This is the third time I experinced with them. My request to them would be don't offer any discounts if you can't afford it. It is unfair to your customer when they receive different services from the restaurant. If you are going to cut down on your quantity and quality of food then there is no need for us to buy groupon and no need for you to send those coupon in clipper's magazine. Half price on food equal half plate of food then technically the restaurant has a win win situation and as a consumer I am a loser for continuously giving them my business. read more

I have been looking for a good Italian place that delivers to MONTVILLE. A neighbor told me Gencarelli's in Pine Brook was good. Tonight I ordered veal parm, chicken soup and pizza. In all honesty I was quite disappointed. I used to own a restaurant and know what good food really means. The veal was literally drowning in a standard marina sauce. The veal was over breaded and had no real taste. Didn't even taste like veal. The pizza was nothing special and could be found at any pizza shop. Good pizza and subs. Haven't tried the entrees yet. They have a $5 large plain pie promotion for Mondays-Wednesdays if you order online. I guess I've exhausted the promotion because I can no longer use the coupon under my login info. If they are going to have a reusable coupon, then make it reusable...not only usable for a couple of times and then they cut you off. It costs them less than $2 to make a plain pie. Also, the pies they give you if you take advantage of the coupon are NOT large (16") and they take 1.5 hours to deliver it. Ok pizza, but the promotion thing and timing turns me off. read more

I had an awesome dinner here the other night. I came here with a group of 5 and we all left very happy. The dining room was just completely redone. It's basically brand new and it looks like a traditional rustic Italian restaurant. For an appetizer I had mussels in a tequila sauce and for dinner a Chilean sea bass in mango salsa. Both dishes were very unique and I loved them . For dessert I had homemade tiramisu which was probably the best I ever had. Overall great food and service. I will definitely be back. read more

I have been going to Gencarellis for over 10 years. This is my family's go-to pizza and Italian place and the food is beyond delicious! My go-to favorite dish is the penne alla vodka, but you can never go wrong with a pizza, sandwich, or salad. Just be careful not to fill up on their delicious bread that comes with every meal! I live very close and eat here frequently for years. It's usually very good, but I don't know what happened this last time. It was terrible. Their wings were of cheap frozen quality. The worst however was the pizza. It was all under-cooked. We got half pepperoni. The pepperoni was under the cheese. This made all the cheese fall off of each slice as you ate it. Also it made it impossible to know which type of slice you were grabbing. They should just stick with he time tested method of putting the "toppings" on top. read more

It is an utter shame about this place. The pizza is excellent (in my opinion) but they do mess up their pizza orders alot. I stopped going here for a long time because of it! Which is still sad because its one damn tasty pizza! One of the few places that bake the pepperoni in the cheese instead of on top of the cheese (waaayy tastier this way!) Wow! Just came here with a local flavor coupon and I have to say their pizza is the BEST I've ever tasted, and I've been to some pretty high end places in NYC. I ordered a chicken parm/mushroom pizza and it was an absolute masterpiece. Great texture, very fresh dough, rich sauce. The mushrooms taste like they just came out of the ground. I think I found my new pizza spot. Will definitely be coming back for more. I really don't get why the other reviews on Yelp are so bad, but Gencarelli's does have a pizza place in Newark which is lower quality with lower prices, so maybe some reviews for the other location are mixed in with this one. They have 5 stars on google for the Pine Brook Genc's, which is the higher quality/priced pies. The Pine Brook one has a 50% off coupon from localflavor, so I would definitely recommend trying them out with that coupon. I wouldn't miss out on giving these guys a try just because of the reviews here. The Pine Brook and Newark locations really are two very different kinds of pizza. read more

Great pizza spot for a small store in the corner, I had the meatballs they were pretty good, I love the tomato sauce that comes with the meatballs, their sauce is out of this world.. I go to Gencarelli's at least 1-2 times per week. My two favorite meals are the Pasta Fagioli and the Buffalo Chicken salad. Another one of my absolute favorites is the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich. I order it with "extra love", meaning it comes with white American cheese and the bread is toasted. This is a great family-owned restaurant and it shows with the pride they take in their service. Ive had multiple bad experiences with this place. Gave it a couple chances but after the most recent never again. First time I waited almost and hour and forty minutes for a pizza then once it arrived it was cold. The second time the pizza was delivered with all the cheese slid over to one side. Recently I ordered an entree, as the driver walked onto my porch he spit a huge loogy into my flower box.... Then to boot tried to hustle a five dollar out of me. I've given them many many chances on takeout food and they have messed up on my pizza,pasta (overcooked), salad (served brown chicken), soup(gross), and their meatball (even more disgusting). Normally the food is really good from this place. But tonight my experience was awful. I ordered chicken Caesar wings and the first order I got there was hardly any dressing on them, and the dressing that was on it looked so gross like it had been sitting out for hours. Then I called they offered to send me another order, ok I was fine with that and my sister and I delayed another whole hour for the new order of wings to arrive. Once they did it looked like their was a good amount of dressing on the inside through the clear plastic top, when I opened it there was literally a thing layer smeared around the tin and lid with no actual dressing inside or on the wings. When I called again I was going to tell them not to bother with another order but I wanted to make them aware of what happened. The girl who answered then put me on hold and I waited for 5 full minutes but no one ever picked up the line again. This is the most awful experience I have ever had with a restaurant. The customer service was rude and the food was terrible. I've had those wings before and they were great so I was pretty surprised. We were thinking about having them cater my niece's first birthday party I'm September but now no way after this experience. Glad this happened prior to us hiring them to cater. read more
