Nonna's Pie- wood-fired meatballs, ricotta, pecorino Romano, plum tomato, mozzarella. Messy goodness!

Mama mia! Scrumptious pizza with super fresh ingredients. Inside, several tables and cute wall art add to classic pizzeria feels. My kids loved and completely finished their Cheese Ravioli while I inhaled their Tuscany pie made with goat cheese, prosciutto, figs, and plum tomato. I super recommend it. Then, for Nonna's Pie topped with meatballs, ricotta, pecorino Romano, mozz, and plum tomato I had to use a couple napkins but it was so good! NOTES/TIPS: **Wheelchair-accessible **Order by phone or through: pizzacucinanj.com, yelp, or Doordash **Eat in, take out, delivery, catering **Besides pizza, they offer appetizers, salads, subs, pasta, baked dishes, seafood dishes, and dessert. **Plenty of parking in a shared lot in front.

Called up to place an order for pickup. They told me my order would be ready in 30 minutes. I got there exactly in 30 minutes, and as I walked in, they were taking my food out of the oven. The Brooklyn thin Square pie and the Grandpa thin square pie were cooked perfectly since I had asked them to make them both well done. The vodka chicken parm hero and regular chicken parm were also on the money. Couldn't have asked for better service or food tonight. I would definitely recommend this place, and I will be looking into getting them to cater parties in the near future

Pretty damn good sandwich, my brother like the calzone but the pizza was nothin to be proud of, you get the pass because it was Good Friday and probably the busiest day of the year! Sandwich was really good will be back for another one, I love the meat selection, I bet burrata would be amazing on it too! Eggplant was cooked the way it should be, perfect

    Veggie pizza 1/29/2021

Pizza is 4-stars. COVID precautions--at least on our visit on Friday 1/29/2021--are 2-stars. This results in my 3-star rating. Attributes that did not factor into my rating, but might be of concern to others are: long wait time (we received an estimate of 40 minutes at 8 pm, whereas other pizzerias in the area usually take 20); inaccurate hours on website (they appear to have expanded their pandemic hours from 8:30 to 9 pm, at least on weekends). We ordered a veggie pizza. The crust was thin, nicely crunchy on the edges, but a bit soggy in the center--which is fine, because we tend to eat pizza with a knife and fork anyway. (Quelle horreur!) Toppings were ample and varied, with spinach and black olives along with the standard broccoli, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The front of the restaurant is glass, so as we pulled into a parking space up front, we could see that there was someone sitting inside, doing something on his phone and not wearing a mask. The chef was similarly without a mask, as was someone else who briefly entered from a back room and returned there. We called to ask about procedure; the guy who answered the restaurant phone (who turned out to be the person we had initially spotted) said he would bring the pizza out to our car and took my credit-card info over the phone. He *did* put on his mask to deliver the pizza, and to go back inside and fetch the receipt for us.

The specialty pizzas are BOMBBBB. But also the strombolis. Long waits for pick up and delivery but that's a good sign, right?!

    Upside down pie, very disappointing.

I had been meaning to give the Columbia Inn in Montville a try for a while since friends of mine…read morementioned that pizza aficionado Dave Portnoy had awarded their exceptional thin crust pizza an 8.7 back in 2020. Even though my usual dining companion and I don't enjoy pizza - due to my lactose intolerance (more on that later) - we finally stopped in for dinner on a recent Saturday night. The restaurant occupies a historic building built in the 1870s that once served as Montville town hall and later became a tavern and inn catering to travelers making their way through northern New Jersey along US Route 202 and the Morris Canal. Today, the Columbia Inn offers diners a great neighborhood pub atmosphere with a lively bar scene and an adjacent dining room that can accommodate larger parties in a casual, family-friendly dining experience. Overall, our food was terrific. My dining companion really enjoyed her St. Peter's fish ($28), a flaky white fish topped with minced garlic, diced tomato with arugula, and a light tomato sauce alongside mashed potatoes and mashed carrots. I ordered the Chicken Scarpariello ($28) -- a very robust sauté of chicken, Italian sausage, and sweet and spicy peppers in a bold, tangy white wine and vinegar sauce -- also served with the mashed potatoes and mashed carrots. Both of us thought our entreés were genuinely delicious. However, we hit a plot twist. Navigating an Italian menu with lactose intolerance is already an extreme sport, but the description of the Scarpariello in the menu looked totally safe. Enter a creative sous chef, who apparently likes to improvise a little off-script. A few bites in, I realized my chicken was secretly wearing a cozy blanket of melted cheese hidden just underneath the sauce. I strive to be the lowest-maintenance diner on the planet and will happily eat around almost anything (while deferring my criticism to a Yelp review) to avoid sending a plate back to the kitchen. I was fully prepared to operationally pick off the cheese and soldier on, but our server, Yuri, caught my look of mild betrayal and swooped in like an absolute hero. He refused to let me suffer through a cheese-scraping mission, insisted on taking my dish back to the kitchen, and had a fresh, dairy-free version out to me in record time and offered his sincere apologies for the snafu. Major credit to Yuri for handling it like a total rockstar. I'm deducting half a star for the stealth cheese surprise and rounding down to 4 stars, but thanks to Yuri's legendary service and the fantastic food, we had a great night and will definitely be back! PRO TIP: The chef seems to enjoy freelancing and dishes may be served with slight variations from the menu descriptions. This has the potential to cause problems for people with food allergies -- so be sure to make your server aware of any specific requests when ordering.

When I came to Boonton, I made a point of trying every pizzeria in town. Well, once I settled on my…read morefavorite, I kinda stopped trying all the new ones, and so I've been missing out on Bako's! Until today, thanks to a local post hinting at places in "The Flats" of Boonton. Bako's is a bit down Main Street from the rest, not really a place to walk to, and they don't have anywhere to sit inside. A couple outdoor tables if the weather's nice, but this place is really about takeout (and perhaps Doordash type deliveries). So I took myself home a pie. While the pie was baking, I chatted with the owner and the front desk kid, who turns out to be the owner's son! Bako is the Italianized nickname of the owner Baki, who is there to greet you and hand-make the pies as you watch. Quality! The printed menus are a bit lacking, but the online menu has the full story of what toppings are available. Food verdict: I'm glad I went with my gut and ordered something other than the usual cheese base. The "cheesy garlic" is just different than what you'll find anywhere else. They threw in some sides of marinara sauce, which I used to drench the slices back to a sense of normalcy, but this is not normal pizza. The main star deduction is due to the crust being overly burnt, something I don't run into most places so I'll have to remember to order light-cooked here. May also be a different crust recipe, as it definitely tasted unusual, perhaps slightly into the Mediterranean realm (note the inclusion of other items on this menu in that vein, including a Turkish pie!). The toppings were a good amount, spread evenly, though they pulled in a bit from the edge of the crust overall with the cheese. Is what it is. Overall verdict: Bako's doesn't take over as my favorite place in town, but I think it's got a shot at #2. Just for "something different" and "something open on Tuesday" should either of those cravings strike. After revisiting Roma not that long ago, which until now has held that second slot, I think Bako's has a good shot at unseating them. Hopefully this review can start to spread the word about this new game in town! And to those of you in the flats: if you want to upgrade from a Reservoir bar pie, walk on over to Bako's!

I'm honestly shocked this place isn't packed wall-to-wall every night -- this is the kind of pizza you expect to find in Naples . From the second you walk in, you know they take their craft seriously. Stacks of real wood, the authentic Pavesi Italian oven, and trays of perfectly risen dough balls -- it's the real deal. No shortcuts, no gimmicks. Just craftsmanship. I ordered two pies: White Pie with Mushrooms & Olives Incredible. The crust has that perfect leopard-spotted char, blistered just right, crispy on the outside but still soft and airy inside. The ricotta and mozzarella are super fresh, the mushrooms taste like they were sliced minutes before hitting the oven, and the olives add the perfect salty punch. Every bite tasted like it was straight out of a wood-fired pizza boutique. Classic Margherita One word: unreal. The sauce is bright and fresh, the cheese melts into little pools of heaven, and the basil actually survives the oven without turning bitter. Balanced, clean, and addictive. The crust is truly the star -- you can tell they use high-quality "00" flour and slow fermentation. Light, airy, not heavy at all. The kind of crust you want to eat all of, even the charred ends. The owner Mike clearly cares about every detail -- from the dough to the toppings to the oven temperature. This isn't "pizza shop pizza," this is artisanal, handcrafted, authentic wood-fired pizza done right. Prices are super fair for this quality. Cash-only but totally worth it. If you love real Neapolitan wood-fired pizza, put this place on your list immediately. Easily one of the best pies I've had in NJ -- maybe the best. I'll definitely be back .
