Ordered delivery on Grubhub and was pretty happy with the meal. I'll start with the not so good. The bread for the bruschetta was packed with the tomatoes, so that was mush- not smart. We ordered a cannoli and got a cheesecake. The OK- the calamari was still nice and crispy, but it was tubes only for $13. Pricey. The red sauce that came with it was good. I also tried the stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious but 4 for $9... again, pricey. I ordered a lava cake which had no lava. That was probably stupid of me. If it could have been saved in the oven or microwave I wish they would have included some kind of instructions. The entrees and bread were the best part, which I am not upset about. I got the tortellini carbonara, which was good but I wish they had an option to order the carbonara with something other than tortellini. Oh well, it was delicious. Wife went lobster ravioli, which had a vodka sauce and a few shrimp swimming in there. The pasta seemed homemade, and maybe could have used a little for filling or been a little more uniform in shape, but still very tasty. Overall, this place is a bit too expensive for what the are delivering, but the food is not terrible. read more

I started going here 30 years ago, and it just keeps getting better and better. Moved out of town and have not been here for a couple of years. Had lunch twice just the past week, Brooklyn pie, fantastic. Had suppa de peice over linquine and linquine and clams in a white sauce. excellent. They have remodeled and increased their dining area. Very casual for lunch or dinner. read more

Called for a delivery today and was told not deliverers today and then hung up on. Office quite often used Gencarelli's for lunch orders - we are now changing restaurants. read more

Gencarelli's is one of those places where you walk in and you go "whoa!" Being on the side of a major highway you would never expect to find such a nice little Italian restaurant. The front is deceiving - once you walk in you'll see the dining room is nicely remodeled. After you sit they bring out the most amazingly soft and buttery bread, so good you'll eat at least two baskets. I've had a few different things on the menu and have enjoyed every single one. Most recently I had chicken breast with portobello mushroom and roasted red pepper in a balsamic sauce with a side of spaghetti. It was so good, the flavors mesh together so well. My husband had a chicken cutlet in a gravy with prosciutto and mushrooms topped with melted cheese. His was also super tasty, so much so that I helped him out by eating all of his mushrooms . We've been back a bunch of times, having brought both of our families who all really enjoyed it! read more

Less than one star! Not impressed. My company ordered from here a bunch of times, they have many specials to choose from but there were none that were good. My company has since stopped ordering from here. Their Chicken Francese was horrible. I make Chicken Francese the right way, theirs is Chicken with lemon. Gross. Recently, from home I ordered an advertised special, Pizza, Chicken Wings and a liter of soda for all together 22.32. With delivery tip, it came to 26.50. Bargain right? WRONG! OMG. The Chicken Wings were boneless Chicken BALLS, so old and chewy they were disgusting. I threw them away. And, I ordered Buffalo and got barbecued. Pizza was below average for the area. So basically I ordered a Cheese Pizza and liter of soda for 26.50. Not much of a bargain. I emailed the restaurant regarding my dissatisfaction. They never got back to me. NEVER AGAIN! Once, twice, three times, then never again! read more

We, too, have ordered (delivery) from here for years and have gotten our share of messed up orders. All could be overlooked because the pizza was pretty good. Then, one day we had our regular pizza order and we both got dreadfully ill...I mean the kind of ill where you make bargains with God...for three days. I always had my concerns about their cleanliness. I rarely go into the restaurant because we almost always have the pizza delivered. However, one day I went in on a whim. I saw the pizza cook make pizza, make change then make pizza...all without washing his hands. Yuck! read more

Just ordered a pizza with sausage...kinda hard to screw up right? WRONG! Two issues with this pizza right off the bat. Number one, where is the sausage? You charge $2.50 for toppings and there is practically nothing on there! One slice has literally one small piece of sausage! Number two, the pizza is practically raw! The crust isn't even cooked through, we just put it our oven to cook it so that it was edible! There is entirely too much liquid on top of the pizza too, the sauce must be watered down. We used to order from them regularly and stopped because the quality went way down and only ordered tonight because they are the only place that delivers in the area where we live and we didn't feel like driving in the snow. Never again!! This place is horrible! If I could give no stars I would! read more

Gencarelli's - Sausage pizza, undercooked & not much sausage. Spend your $ elsewhere, maybe the owner will get the message, terrible food! - Pizza Near Me - Pine Brook, New Jersey

One of the few places that you can get a solid Sicilian pie and the white pie (usually add garlic and tomato) is hands down best I've ever had....I love their red sauce and always get extra on pizza... it's good on pasta/chicken parm as well....entrees come with triangle bread...yum!!! If you like ricotta add it to anything and you will be thankful. read more

Just order from here again as I still have a gift card with money on it. Ordered online just to have them call me again to say they have no mushrooms for the chicken dish. No mushrooms.....really? As soon as this gift card is empty...I will not be ordering from here anymore! read more

Ordered food at 6:19 on Grubhub... it is now 8:30 and food has not shown up yet, called the restaurant, they said on the way and that was 25 minutes ago... I live 10 minutes away... order took 2 hours and 20 minutes to arrive... very poor service from Gencarelli's and Grubhub read more

Our family's go to spot for great Italian food. Pizza is fantastic, service is great, staff is friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend trying if you havent already. read more

We usually order sandwiches or salads from here during work. Food is always good. A few weeks back i went and ate in w/ co-worker, we had pizza and it was pretty good. (and i'm a NY'er), the reason for the 2 stars, like the other reviews said is cleanliness, i went and ate in a 2nd time w/ my 8yr old daughter and fiancee, there was an odd, unpleasing smell in the rear of the restaurant where we sat. We tried to overlook it and noticed quite a few flies buzzing about. My fiancee took my daughter to the bathroom only to come back and say the bathroom was really nasty. By the end of the meal, my daughter who had gotten mozzarella sticks had to go back to the bathroom & had diarrhea (not sure if one can get sick that fast from the food). On a positive note the other 2 sandwiches we had were pretty good. I will go back because of the convenience and good food but i will be careful and wary... read more

Why does it take an hour and twenty minutes to deliver two pizzas? It is worth it? The pizza is ok. The entrees are salty but the prices are a dollar or two more than the next place. It's better you just go somewhere else. read more

The food is good. Here in lies the problem. DO NOT order online and pay with a credit card. I've finally traced back my card info getting stolen at least twice to their site. This last time I emailed them asking if they've been having any complaints about this and explaining what happened and I got "Thank you for emailing there has been something going on with our outside marketing site but he promised us all would be taken care of once again sorry for the inconvenience" response. Really annoying. A different time I tried ordering online and the food never came. I finally called them and they weren't even open. Someone called me 4 hours later to ask if I still wanted the food. Thanks, but no thanks. It was some obscure holiday...but I checked their facebook and website and no where did it say they were opening late. It really is a shame I can't order from here anymore because, like I said, the food is good. Oh well. read more

Not really a pizza place. Yes, they make it, but this has the air of an Italian restaurant. I tried the pizza and it was underwhelming - all the ingredients were good but the taste was missing. The staff seems nice, at least. I might consider returning to try some of the Italian food, but not the pizza again. read more

Very good pizza... really, the best in our immediate area. They make a really great Sicilian pie, but it's not always available. They also make some good specialty pies like buffalo chicken, chicken parm and cheesesteak. We pretty much only get the pizza here... items like calamari, wings or subs are so-so to o.k., but not great. I see the notes about mixed up orders on the other reviews. Out of probably close to 100 orders over the years, we've only had it happen twice, and they have been very good about making up for the mistake. read more

This is the best pizza in the area, without a doubt. I absolutely cannot resist a penne vodka slice even when I go in thinking I'm going to get a salad. When I order takeout I always get shrimp scampi over linguini and it's always consistent. I always ask for extra triangle bread because I just can't get enough of it! You could also dine in which is awesome because it's BYOB! read more

This is one of the most abysmal pizza places I've had the misfortune of spending my money on. I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza. Overpriced. Delivery was longer than an hour for a place only a few miles away. Pizza was no longer hot, slightly above luke warm. Pizza was bland, and I want to say they did not put any of the buffalo sauce because I did not taste any. They use a bleu cheese/mayo sauce (vs the regular tomato sauce) and it was honestly quite disgusting. Crust was decent, and amount of cheese was good. Other than that, there were no other positives about the pizza. Save yourself the trouble by skipping this place. read more

My family has been coming here since I was little. The food is consistently good. The service is genuinely friendly and attentive. They have completely updated their dining room. It used to be a pretty nondescript area in the back of a standard pizzeria. Now it is very elegant dining space with a stone facade and new elegant tables. I took off one star because it sometimes feels like they are so busy pushing out food for their take-out service (which to their credit does get very very busy) that the customers in the dining room have extremely long waits for their food. That said, the food is always fresh (again, to their credit they have high volume and quick turn over). To be honest, I have not tried their pizza in about 22 years, because I have recently only gone there for meals. However, I liked the pizza when I was in high school, for whatever that's worth. Maybe I'll try it again soon just so that I can update my review. read more

The Steak Caesar salad is amazing... I had never had a steak caesar salad before this place and probably wont seek it anywhere else. Too bad thats the only thing good about this place. This is the type of place you only goto because its convenient. In my opinion you would never crave anything from here. Im not saying it tastes bad but Its not special by any means. Very small dining area to dine in so if you are dining in it better be just one other person with you. The deli/store next door is owned by the same people. They have amazing red velvet cupcakes (stay tuned for that review). Now the reason for the 2*s is because while I was waiting for my salad the guy making pizzas waited on a table, answered the phone, took peoples money, cut MY bread, then took MY money. Uhhh appreciate your multi-tasking skills but not your cleanliness. Still ate the salad tho and it was still good, LoL read more

Just finished eating here. The food was amazing and the staff so friendly! We had a party of 7 and were right away. Definitely looking forward to coming back! read more

This review is more about the service than the food. I live in the area and have been ordering from here for awhile. But lately it seems that everyone there has an ego problem. There were times when I have walked in and waited to be asked "How can I help you?" for a looong time. Some of the employees would literally just look at you and say NOTHING! Really?! Just a quick "Hi, I'll be right with you" would suffice! But they just look at you like you don't belong for some odd reason. Young employees don't really care about the business, they are just there to collect a paycheck. It's a shame really. As far as cleanliness, I have really become grossed out at the flies I see around the pizza area on the right when you walk in. I mean, fly glue strips hanging by food??!!??!?! SERIOUSLY???!! Not sure if they are still there since I haven't gone in a long time and never will again. But cleanliness is definitely not a priority at the establishment. I'm not one to bash a business, but sometimes owners need to know what's going on or hear the customers experience first hand. Again, the food actually is good when done right, but the service and appearance of the restaurant is pretty bad! read more

Having lived only 10 mins away from Gencarelli's all my life, my first visit was tonight and was only because I received a gift certificate to Gencarelli's from a friend. First step was reading the yelp reviews which honestly aren't that great.....second step was arriving at the location and talking myself and my DH into actually stepping inside. But don't let appearances fool you my friends! The exterior of Gencarelli's may be an eyesore but your taste buds will THANK YOU for the experience of eating here! Yes, it's true, the dining area is tiny, but being recently renovated, is quite elegantly decorated and intimate (aside from the endless stream of people coming in and out of the pizzeria side picking up to go orders which is their big money maker). And yes it's also true that we waited 40 mins for our entrees to come out, but when they did, they were proven to be worth the wait! DH and I ordered the Chicken Dominick (sub vodka sauce for the Marsala sauce) to share with penne on the side. The waitress was kind enough to offer to plate and serve it on two separate plates for us but when she served it I figured she got our order wrong and placed two entree orders, not split one order on two plates! DH and I each recieved a plate with two large, succulent pieces of chicken covered in prosciutto and absolutely smothered by fresh buffalo mozzarella all drowned in vodka sauce - we still can't believe that it was only one entree split into two halves! As if the portion size wasn't enough to make the visit worth it, the freshness and quality of the meal was absolutely outstanding! Forgot Olive Garden people! This is real deal, delicious, authentic Italian food! The bread served was hot, crusty but mouth wateringly soft on the inside, the creamy Italian salad dressing was quite clearly homemade and delicious and as I covered the entree was divine. If you can overlook the downright scary exterior, and can pacify yourself for a long wait for entrees with delicious bread then definitely give Gencarelli's a try! P.s. The service was amazing as well! P.p.s. As I mentioned, they are very popular for delivery and pick up, and after our dine in experience tonight, we can't wait to order delivery to see if that's half as good as our meal tonight! read more

I recently visited this establishment with my wife and what a enjoyable experience. The staff was super friendly, extremely reasonable priced, and the food was off the charts. I would highly recommend it. read more

I lived in the area my whole life and had never been to this place. I finally decided to grab a few slices on my way home from working late. It was after 7pm and the place was jam packed. The young girl at the counter was very nice and was describing all the different pies they had made. The phone kept ringing off the hook and the poor girl had to keep grabbing it. I ordered 3 gourmet slices to-go, but can't remember exactly what kind..I think a veggie, meat, and maybe a philly cheese steak. While I was waiting, another kid asked if I was being helped. So, the service was very friendly. Their phone kept ringing and people were coming in and out of the dining room so it looked like they had a good following. Heck, they have been there since I can remember. There was an older couple who walked in with a bottle of wine who wanted to dine-in. They stood there for maybe 10 seconds and then went over to the young counter girl WHILE SHE WAS ON THE PHONE taking an order and asked if they could be seated...the girl had like 2 other lines on hold. I thought it was so rude. These workers probably have to deal with entitled Montville jerks a lot like that so I give them props for keeping a smile on their face. OK the FOOD - the pizza was pretty good. I would like to explore more of their menu. My boyfriend had no complaints either. I'd go back. read more

Only 2 Stars, one for fast delivery and another for taste. But MAJOR improvements needed. 1. Online ordering needs a section to add topping and give you a final price. Putting toppings in the comments box is not the right way to do this. 2. Quality control is needed! Yes the pizza tasted good, but half of it was burnt to a crisp. The crust was BLACK and the cheese was brown and dry! Lucky for them we were starving and still ate it and like I said, it still tasted good. Will I try again? Maybe... I like to give second chances. read more

Terrible will never use them again ! I've been ordering from here for 5 years and the last time I ordered they sent the wrong order . This time again they sent the wrong pizza and to make it worse it was burnt and chewy and inedible and that was after they told me a 45 minute wait . I waited 2 hours for this garbage . I called and spoke to the manager he first Denied delivering this pizza then he verified that it was his pizza and didn't even say he was sorry . Place went to shit never again . read more

Good pizza But when you go take out walked in ask them picking up pie I said how many minutes she said a couple half an hour later still waiting it's just at least tell the customer how long it's going to really be not just pacify them with all a few minutes very disappointing with the customer service behind the counter read more

This is my go to pizza joint for when I'm at work. The pizza never disappoints, and the salads are great too. Salads come with a huge piece of foccacia bread. This is a good spot for a quick lunch, take out or dine-in. The pricing overall are pretty decent. Some items seem oddly priced. 6 small garlic knots should not cost $6.00. Also on the website, I saw that they were charging $3.00 per topping on a pie. That seems excessive. read more

Ordered vodka chicken parm sandwich, homemade ravioli and chicken cutlet sandwich w bruschetta and fresh mozzarella. Everything was spectacular. Vodka chicken parm especially - they don't skimp in any ingredient it seems. While $14 seems a little high for 6 ravioli, the sauce was delicious and they were perfectly cooked. The delivery came earlier than expected. Everything was piping hot and nothing disappointed. We will def be ordering from this place again. read more

I went to eat here tonight since I haven't been there since the renovation was done. They combined their old store with the space next door and made a bigger dining area (14 tables compared to eight before) and a huge brand new kitchen. The food was awesome as always. I had my favorite pasta dish of Penne Romano and was as good as it always was. I will definitely continue to frequent Gencarellis just as I have in the past. read more

Awful. The quest continues for decent delivery in the Montville /Parsippany area. The preparation is the worst. Veal Marsala yeah right! Two tiny piece of veal flavored rubber swimming in enough Marsala to make a tray for 15 people. Shrimp Parmigiana? Shrimp good quality enough sauce for 5 orders totally destroyed shrimp. Want pasta al dente? don't bother asking, I don't think they know what that means. Pizza? I should have thrown out the pizza and ate the box. I ordered from here at least a 1/2 dozen times.... No more. read more

I'll start by saying this place has the best grandma pie and vodka sauce! Very good! Where things fall apart are their take out chicken entree dinners. The last three times I ordered a chicken dish it was pure soup. I could barely find the food floating in all the liquid. The dinners are not cheap so the last time this happened, I called the restaurant and kindly explained the issue. The staff member was nice and said they would make me another dish and send it over. It never came! Receiving a soupy meal a number of times and then them not keeping their word was enough for me to take my business elsewhere. read more
