This place has always been our go-to delivery spot but the last two orders have been completely disappointing, leaving us wondering what our take out future holds. I'm not sure if a recent chef change occurred or what, but our orders twice now have been completely underdone, soggy, and overall lacking flavor. We ordered rice balls - a staple in this household. Expecting glorious fluffy pillows of rice and cheese fried delightfully golden brown, we were completely shocked and dismayed in what we actually received - little balls of mush covered in a breading that disintegrated upon touch all while combined with a surprisingly bland greasy sauce. We both ordered soup as I had been recovering from oral surgery and required some easy eating. The soups were fine enough, as they usually have been. I got chicken noodle - filled with lots of moist, fresh chicken. The only problem, as already established, was the texture. The noodles were again completely soft and mushy. Very off putting in an otherwise flavorful soup. My partner got the pasta fagioli which she seemed pretty content with. More of a win, but still somewhat inconsistent. The cannolis, however, were completely inedible. Keeping on with our theme of the night, they were a pile of underwhelming mush. The flavor was lacking, and the shell had a stale texture to it. Worse yet, the delivery driver didn't show much care (I'm assuming, at least), as we received them completely annihilated - extremely disappointing. Still willing to give them three stars based off of previous experiences as we have so many wonderful memories of some truly fantastic food. I hope they get their act together. We have been ordering from them for years, so it would be quite a letdown if we had to say goodbye based off of our recent questionable orders. Please, figure out your texture problems. My office had lunch catered today from Gencarelli's Pine Brook. To say it was delicious is an understatement. The rice balls with vodka sauce are to die for - IYKYK. The pasta vodka was al dente and sooooo good And neither of them stood a chance. We also had eggplant parm, Chicken Dominick, veggies with garlic, gluten free cavatell with broccoli and chicken, roasted potatoe... all so tasty! Everything down to the salad dressing and bread was absolutely fabulous. Hats off to your CHEF! I will definitely be coming in for dinner and I would 100% recommend to friend! read more

Last Monday, my husband and I were planning to do take-out, and discovered that 1) our favorite Chinese restaurant is closed on Mondays and 2) our favorite pizza place is closed on Mondays. We had recently received a coupon from Gencarelli's in the mail, so we decided to try them. And we're very glad that we did. In fact, we're wondering why we never tried them before--we used to live with walking distance in Pine Brook. The Grandma's pizza was amazing, full of flavor with fresh tasting ingredients, lots of garlic, and a tasty medium crust that was nicely chewy in the middle and crispy on the edge. I usually apply liberal amounts of pepper flakes, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, and oregano to my pizza, but this pizza didn't need any enhancements. The pizza was a square (as Grandma pizzas are) that just barely fit into a large pizza box, cut into 12 rectangular pieces. Because the Grandma pizza was so good and the other coupon expired within the week, we once again got pizza for Friday lunch. The wait time (30 minutes) was shorter than on Monday night, but still longer than at most pizza places. Because the area near the counter is small and a couple of other customers and a delivery person had gone inside before us, we asked that the pizza be brought out for us. (Masks are required by the restaurant, but the people who went ahead of us didn't wear their mask over their noses. Sigh.) We were initially brought the wrong pizza, but we noticed right away and were able to make the swap when the employee returned with our credit card and receipt. The cheesesteak pizza was also very good, with caramelized onions and a bit of American cheese on top to give it the right mix of flavors. read more

I can't say enough great things about Gencs!! Whether I come in for dinner, pick up food or do a catering order the food here is always consistently amazing. They have specials every weekend so there is always something new to try. Great atmosphere, BYOB, staff is super friendly and attentive. By far my favorite pizza and they have so many options to choose from. If you have not tried their vodka sauce you are missing out. Lots of different chicken and seafood dishes so there is really something for everyone. I highly recommend this place to everyone I know and it never disappoints!! read more

The pizza at this place is subpart at best. No crisp to the crust. Tons of corn meal on the bottom. Upside: Online ordering was easy. Downside: The menu states that you get a 10% discount for ordering online. I received no such discount. There are a ton of other pizza places in the area. I would suggest that you try them. Their pizza is decent. Delivery can either be very fast or over an hour. Last time I ordered a buffalo chicken salad with grilled chicken (that part was correct) and no onion (I got minced onion yuck). Buffalo sauce was more like bbq. Prices are high for the area (their chicken parm sandwich is $4-$5 more than others in the area). Not my go to (pizza cucina in towaco is better in my opinion) but works in a pinch. read more

One of the better pizza / restaurants in the area. They have very good pizza with many types of specialty options. I love their ricotta pie which is a standard plain pie with dollops of ricotta on top as a topping. The ricotta they use is much higher quality than others in the area. Their pizza in general is very good. Additionally they offer very good food with many of the options you expect from an Italian restaurant. I have enjoyed their carbonara dishes and their stuffed shells and lasagna. My has a gluten allergy and enjoys their gluten free pasta (usually penne) with vodka sauce. Their chicken sandwiches and wraps are also a good option for both lunch and dinner. Very good food and service that offers a good value when considering the prices. read more

Used to go here once in a while when we lived in Pine Brook, but only for pizza (well, once I ordered ravioli and they were very good, but that was a LONG time ago). I decided to give them a shot recently to see if things have changed. I have to say, I was never thrilled with their pizza when we lived in Pine Brook, but we would order from here for a change of pace. The pizza isn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it didn't do it for me...and my most recent slices didn't change that opinion. The crust on the pizza was bland and a little thick. Cheese and toppings were nicely distributed, but the sauce didn't jump with flavor either. Again, not bad, but just a little bland I guess. I don't live close anymore so, at best, this is a 'stop in' place for me, but there are other choices in the area that are just as good. read more

Have lived in Parsippany for over 10 years and had only been here once 9 years ago until this past weekend. The food was fantastic. We were a big group so we ordered food and took it to someone's home. Even after taking it home it still tasted great. We had the Rice balls with Vodka Sauce, an order of Ravioli, a couple orders of penne vodka, 2 salads, a plain pizza, a margarita pizza and a chicken cutlet vodka sauce pie. We walked in, restaurant was empty, and paid our bill to 3 young ladies behind the counter--were told it wasn't quite ready yet, please give 5 min. We sat there for 10 min, hearing the young ladies' personal business. We told them we would be back in 5 min. Waited in the car. Went back in 3 times. Finally it's ready (30 min after we arrived.) Get home & one entree is missing! Call them & they apologize "our printer ran out of paper & you left before we could give you the whole order." Asked if they could deliver it & they said it would be over an hour!! After I asked to speak with manager, they explained there was no manager, but they could bring it right away & give a discount & dessert. Really?? After many previous orders being wrong &/or late, we decided tonight to give them "another chance" after not going for quite a time. NEVER AGAIN! read more

This review is about the service, not the quality of the food. I do not understand why they cannot ever get the delivery orders correct. We have ordered three times this past week and each time they either forgot silverware (which we specified to include), forgot bread, or we were given the wrong dressing. Today they forgot the bread and added olives to the salad despite specifying no olives due to a food allergy. This is the only Gencarelli's that is consistently making mistakes. On top of that the manager Jose was completely rude and argued on the phone and called us a liar about the lack of bread. This was before we noticed the olives. After spotting the olives in the salad we called back and he said he would come to pick up the salad after we requested a refund. Seems like he didn't believe us and demanded for the food to be returned or was trying to cover his tracks before it became a health violation from the olives. This situation could have been resolved easier if Jose took the least bit of pride in ensuring customer satisfaction and repeat business. We are all human and are aware mistakes happen but to consistently make them (he admitted to bagging the order as well) is forcing us to take our business elsewhere from now on. read more

This is a solid place for takeout. My favorite thing to get is chicken arrabiata (chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, sliced hot peppers and vodka sauce), whether it's the entree, pasta or sandwich. The portion sizes are generous and you can easily get two meals out of them or share. The bread they give on the side with entrees/pasta dishes is actually very good - not your typical chewy, tasteless Italian takeout bread. Prices are fair and the service is friendly. This pizza threw me off. I put pizza into 3 categories usually:bad or sub-par pizza, average pizza and great pizza. The problem is normally I would never knowingly eat the first two kind of pizzas. This place serves good bad or average bad pizza. It has this thin crispy crust with no yeasty bagel like rise to it, this really meh cheese kinda reminds me of good frozen supermarket pizza cheese like Elio's or Stouffer's french bread pizza cheese. In any case I took a few bites and moved onto Angelo Franco's nearby. Needless to say I wish I finished off the pizza at this spot, lmao. I can't believe it but I think I'm going to have to travel to a different town for pizza just like when I was living in Plainfield when I had to travel to Westfield, NJ to get Buona Pizza. Food is always good!!! We usually order the Grandma Pie for take out, which is the best in the area. But eating in is always a great experience. I seriously feel like we are being taken care by family. Last night, I was out with my family (husband and 4 young kids), we had waited for far too long at another restaurant up the street and decided to leave but needed to eat. Gencarelli's is always a safe bet. We walked in with 4 hungry kids, a cranky mama, and an exhausted dad needing to be fed quickly. The waitress was so patient, the food was so satisfying. Pretty sure the owners were sitting in the dining room with us. Whether it's catering for a party, a pizza for take out, or dining in... they always hit the mark! I def recommend their pasta fagioli soup, linguine with clams in white sauce, and Buffalo calamari. read more

Came here 9-10-23 for dinner with six family members. Ordered the Linguine with shrimp, broccoli rabe in garlic olive oil. First forkful, salty. My sister had the same dish & she mentioned it was salty before I said the same thing. The other family members said there dishes were salty. I even mentioned to the waiter not to add any additional salt to my dish when he was taking the entree order, based on my previous experience. Even if they use half the amount of salt it would still be too salty. First time, about two weeks ago did take out from Gencarrelli's, ordered the chicken wrap. Could not eat it normally, had to use a fork & knife, it was falling apart. It was overly salty. Is it just me or is the food here on the salty side? Forced myself to eat the first half of the wrap, the second half threw out. Could it be the food is made salty so it last longer in the fridge or freezer? Can't recommend this restaurant to anyone yet. Thought this place was going to be a hidden gem, maybe someday! Appetizers were ok. Service was excellent, decor/ambiance was nice & cozy. I'm guessing the owners don't need the Senior Citizens or those on low sodium diets to frequent their restaurant. read more
