The quality has dropped throughout the years. Who ever cuts their meat shaves the meat where it's so shredded. All the meats are sweet. Asked more banchan and the kimchee was icy. Didn't even have time to thaw it? Asked 3xs for salad and saamjang. What's the point for putting it in your iPad? I hadn't been to Gen in years, but I remembered it being good quality with solid service. I was deciding between Gen, Ziggle, and Mr. Lee's, and figured I'd pay a little more for better food and service. Plot twist: I chose wrong. We came on a Monday around 5 PM with a party of 8, and the place was already packed. After about a 30-minute wait, the hostess walked us toward our table, then suddenly turned around and walked back to the cashier without saying anything. Naturally, we thought the table next to us was ours and started sitting down. She came back and said, "Hey, that's not your table," then walked us to a booth that was technically for 8 people... if everyone skipped breathing. One grill for 8 people also felt like a team-building exercise. Our server zipped back and forth for about 10 minutes avoiding eye contact. Then he finally came over and said, "What do you guys want to order?" No intro, no menu explanation, no "Have you been here before?" Just straight into business like we eat there every Monday. For 8 people, we got four tiny sides of kimchi and had to ask for more. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because maybe they were short-staffed, but even the basics felt missing. Then a busboy dropped off 8 bowls of white rice we didn't order and disappeared like he was in a rice delivery speedrun. The meat came out fast, but quality was disappointing. The brisket was thick and chewy, the short ribs were paper-thin and mostly fat, and the purple steak was about 50% fat. At that point, I was just grilling regret. I do give them credit for bringing out the meats quickly. Overall, Gen feels like it has gone downhill in both food quality and service. Just bring me beef belly, pork jowl, tofu soup, and I'm living my best life -- and yeah, they got all that for $21, so I was feeling like I beat the system. BUT THEN... plot twist. We ordered jalapeños... and they came with a complimentary baby black beetle . Not on the menu, not listed as extra protein, just vibes. Imagine if I had actually eaten that... Sitting by the bar, we witnessed a staff member drop cups on the floor and immediately restock them onto the "clean" rack for use. The worker knew we saw it, yet nothing was corrected. Furthermore, management (two men in slacks/button-downs) appeared disorganized, which seemed to trickle down to the rest of the team. As for the food, the brisket was extremely underwhelming and the beef belly lacked any sear or char despite leaving it on our grill longer than usual. I believe he's a manager, and he was covering three sections at once. You could tell he was stressed and under a lot of pressure, but he was still doing an amazing job. He was running around nonstop like a chicken without a head -- I genuinely wanted to tell him it was okay to breathe Huge respect to him. Where we were seated, the door opening constantly let in cold air. My boyfriend liked the breeze, but I absolutely did not. If you tend to run hot, though, that seat would be perfect. One thing I did appreciate was the block of onion they give you to clean the grill between meats -- super convenient. I wasn't a fan of their hot sauce, though; it tasted like spicy ketchup to me. So we stick to GEN usually because there meats are good and good variety, there sides options are great and they offer many. The price is fair for all that they offer this specific location has good service but at there main location which is next to 85 degrees, if they send you to there other location just down the parking lot beware. The quality of meats and sides are the same not complaint there but there service is horrible I feel they have all there beginner servers start of here to learn. This side is poorly managed sadly but despite that food is great and pricing is reasonable . Still recommend just a little warning about the other side. read more

What an incredibly underwhelming experience. I know a few people that love this place and I had not been here before. The family and I went a few days ago for dinner. The restaurant looks very trendy and club-like from the outside. The service was not great, just right off the bat. The hostess who sat us didn't wait for us to walk us to our table (a group of people walking in to the restaurant cut us off) and when we found her and sat down, literally 30 seconds pass before she tells us we have to move because she sat us at the wrong table - on the opposite side of the restaurant. Someone came and literally dropped the metallic workings for the burner into the table and rushed away. Our meat came (very small portions) and we began cooking. Then a woman walked passed and turned our fire down without saying anything and walked away. The meat stopped cooking. The meat was taking so long to cook and all of the staff were running around (literally someone ran past us) so my husband was trying to figure out how to turn the fire back up. We finished the small portion of meat, but had to wait maybe 15 minutes before our server came by again so we could order more. We sat waiting for food longer than actually eating, not to mention the staff continually turning our burner down (no wonder the limit is 2 HOURS - takes this long just to cook your meat). I also had to stop someone to ask them to switch out the burner after cooking for a long period of time. The quality of meat was fine, the options for dipping sauces was lacking, the white rice was cold. After we finished eating, we had to wait maybe another 20 minutes before I finally decided to flag someone down just so we could pay and leave. I am writing to express my disappointment with the service my party received today. We arrived at 9:30 PM and were informed by the host that the wait time would be approximately 10-15 minutes. After waiting outside for nearly 40 minutes, I went back inside to check on our status. A different staff member informed me that our name had already been called and that we had failed to respond. However, we were waiting directly next to the entrance the entire time and never heard anyone call us. Our office came here last December for our Christmas party. We went here once for a Christmas party a long time ago and last year was our second time. I was very surprised to see the place was super crowded with lots of other work Christmas parties also. We had two large long tables and 3 booths together. Our servers were awesome and all my review stars are really for them! Everyone one who worked there tried their best to help the customers out whenever they could! Even the managers or staff in regular clothes also helped out with table service. Gen is a chain and there is no need to elaborate more on their meat or seafood selections. They are the same everyone location and when it's peak time, it's really busy and it's hard to place orders. This was one of the worst Korean BBQ experiences I have had, and unfortunately it confirms how much Gen has gone downhill since expanding. We visited the Cerritos location on Sunday, 1/11/2026, during what should have been a normal dinner service. The restaurant was not packed or chaotic. From the start, service was extremely disorganized. Barely any side dishes came out for us. The only item we actually received was brisket, which arrived fairly early, but that was it. We ordered spicy squid and were told by three different servers that it would be coming out shortly. After waiting a long time and asking again, we were finally told the item not available. Okay. Fine. We will order something else. We then ordered a different squid dish. Same story all over again. More waiting, more vague responses. Eventually, a completely different server casually tells us, "Oh, did no one tell you we're out of that item too?" At that point, we had been sitting there for close to an hour. By the one hour mark, we were done and didn't care anymore. Just got the check paid, and left no tip since the service was terrible. On top of the service issues, the floor was greasy in multiple areas and noticeably slippery, which is both unpleasant and unsafe. It is unclear why the floor was like that, but it added to the overall negative experience because it showed nobody cared. I can understand mistakes if a place is slammed, but that was not the case here. I used to love going to Gen years ago. But it's been a while since I have been so I decided to give it a try. I actually was here for sushi in the same plaza, but the smell was so good, I wandered into Gen instead. I came early on Sunday so it was not as packed, but I can see it definitely getting crowded as I was leaving. Their banchan definitely has become sparse since I used to go, with only a few basics. But, I am not a huge banchan person when eating meat, so I was ok with it. I started off with brisket and beef belly. Both were just OK. I looked through the rest of the all you can eat menu and nothing else caught my fancy (especially because I knew that the thicker cuts would not be tender). So, I filled up both meats and the had a pork belly at the end. I would say that the meat was just average. The only other thing I do want to mention is that the service is very spotty here. It's so busy, it's hard to get consistent service. Also, things would get forgotten (I had to ask for garlic several times). The bussers filled in and shout out to the busser that helped us, he got all the things that were missing. Overall, I had an OK experience with average food at Gen. Turns out she was our server, never introduced herself so I can't even tell you her name, only cleared the plates and chopsticks-- left the eaten sides. When she came back, I asked if she can take them. When she grabbed them, the table was visibly dirty but she chose not acknowledge it. Had to flag down another person to assist. Once you walk into the restaurant, the smell of Korean barbecue fills your face with smoke which some people like and some people don't. I know that some people don't want to leave the Korean barbecue place smelling like Korean barbecue if that is you this place is not for you. There is no direct ventilation over the grill which makes for the strong smell getting on your clothes. I personally do not mind. When we first came into the restaurant we were greeted and it was a short wait. One thing that I was surprised with, that because it was Friday, even though we came for lunch, it was dinner prices I personally don't understand why this is the case, but it is what it is. It took a long time for someone to greet us and for us to get water. We had a long day traveling and we are kind of getting impatient. Our server was OK for the most part a little bit on the slower end and not as attentive as I would've hoped. I'm not sure if this is just Korean barbecue in this area but we had to cook and cut all of our food. There was no help, which wasn't a problem, but just a surprise. This is an all you can eat place with a lot of options and various food choices other than barbecue/meat. Most of the meat items that we had ordered was pretty good in terms of flavor and it was tender enough. Some of the meats were a little grizzly and chewy, particularly the kalbi, but the flavor made up for it. The kalbi 2.5/5 They had a lot of different side options like I had mentioned the ones that kind of stuck out to me were the kimchi fried rice to be lacking. My gripe with the kimchi fried rice was that it didn't really have that much kimchi a flavor was OK but they drizzled the gochujang on top and it was a little over the top. 2/5 I would say that the bulgogi had a good amount of flavor and was pretty tender. Would get it again. 3.5/5 The soondubu was pretty decent, I just wish I had an egg inside. 3.8/5 The Banchan was a little lacking, and the kimchi was just OK, slightly better than average but not by much 3/5. The sauces were, eh, not that great, but most meats had enough flavor that you didn't need it! Overall, I would say that for the price, the quality is pretty good for what you get a good compromise for a lower end price point but still tasty food, good for a budget kbbq! Overall, not bad! I'm a big fan of Gen Korean BBQ House in Cerritos -- the staff is amazing and the food is genuinely great and the (estimated) $30 all-you-can-eat dine-in experience is hard to beat with all the sides, salad, rice wraps, and unlimited meat included. However, I recently tried ordering online for the first time (due to stomach surgery, all-you-can-eat isn't really an option for me anymore), and I was disappointed. I ordered the four meats combo for $55, only to find that the rice wraps and salad -- which come free with dine-in -- cost extra online. For $55, I'd expect at least a small salad and the basic fixings included. The food itself is still delicious, but the online ordering experience doesn't reflect the same value as dining in, and it's honestly what's keeping me from coming back. I'd love to see the online menu revamped to include at least a small side salad with combo orders. 1 Star Disappointing Experience We were really looking forward to dining at Gen Korean BBQ, but unfortunately the experience fell far short of expectations. Our server visited the table very infrequently, and despite placing multiple rounds of orders, at least six items never arrived. We followed up several times and were told on multiple occasions that the grill would be changed, but it never was (see photo). Cooking new meat on an unclean grill noticeably affected the quality of the food. The meat itself appeared frozen and not fresh, which was disappointing for an AYCE KBBQ restaurant. We were also served corn with cheese, but no utensils were ever provided, leaving us unsure how it was intended to be eaten. It may sound minor, but it added to the overall lack of attentiveness. The only positive part of the visit was the manager, Yemen(), who stepped in briefly and did his best to help when he noticed the issues. Unfortunately, by then the experience was already impacted. Regarding our server, Suki often walked past our table without checking in, even after making eye contact, which made it difficult to get assistance when needed. My family and I frequent the Alhambra location of Gen and are big fans, so I was excited to try this Cerritos location because it's closer to home. My expectations coming in were pretty high. Although I enjoyed my experience, it did not meet those expectations and I honestly prefer the Alhambra location. I think my favorite thing about this location was the lack of wait. The employees did their best to accommodate our party size of 8 and get us seated immediately after our entire party arrived. Service was great with this aspect, however, it was lacking for the rest of our experience. Service here was extremely slow, we were getting meats before we even got water, we felt like we had to flag our waiter down numerous times and ask for things multiple times after not receiving them, and they limit orders to 4 meats per order I believe? (Alhambra did not have a limit). Our waiter seemed busy and apologetic so it's not all on him, however, I feel like this should've been managed better. In terms of food, I'd say the food itself was good, but the theme here is that it just wasn't as good as the Alhambra location. I can't put my finger on why...it may have been meat quality or the flavor but either way, it wasn't the same. They turned our grills on really high here so our grill was also burning really quickly. Let me start by saying, service was amazing from the time I walked in. We ordered our items and within 5 min all of our order was at the table. Ambiance is always great, music is always on point. The food is always delicious and fresh! Nathan was absolutely awesome! Super friendly, welcoming, and had such a great personality from the moment we walked in. He made the whole experience even better with his charisma and positive attitude -- we genuinely enjoyed talking with him throughout our visit. Customer service like his is hard to find these days. I had high hopes because this location is always so busy but unfortunately I will not be returning here for as long as I can help it. Hostess was extremely unprofessional. We were called to come in by our yelp app and the hostess asked if we'd like to go to the corner location just a small walk to the other side of the parking lot... based on that locations reviews we chose to wait for a table at this location instead. We get another text to come in for seating and were told to step to the side while the hosts deal with another party that also was having issues being seated. the hostess seemingly forgot about us then asked if we'd be willing to take the bar... again we said no we will wait for a table. we are told to continue standing to the side and we will get a table ASAP. Hostess removes us from the list while we're still waiting to be seated then start talking about how it's our fault we didn't say we wanted a table and that they now need to scramble to get us seated-- again very unprofessional to be speaking about a party standing right in front of you just wanting a seat without any type of hostility yet the hostess continues to give dirty looks as if we messed up their intake when again we never agreed to another location or a bar seat. I will never return to this location -- Sake 2 Me is much better and our Torrance Gen hospitality has gotten so much better over the years. Save yourself some time and get to the Torrance location or get some sushi instead! read more

Stopped in on a Thursday night to celebrate a birthday. Arrived around 6pm and the place wasn't too busy. The service was good however could have been a bit better as we ordered a few things that never got brought. The food overall was good, and I would consider coming back again in the future. read more

I don't know how to even start this review, but they should automatically be shut down. Honestly this place was beyond confusing because why have 2 locations on the same property. I went the main location and they sent me to the second location to be seated. I automatically knew this was gonna be a horrible experience due to seeing an Empty Carton of cigarettes on the floor. Secondly, I've had to notify them 2 times that the restroom was BEYOND DIRTY! I asked the waiter what kind of drinks they had... he couldn't even tell me that, he had to show me the IPad for the list of beverages. Thirdly, they sent a male employee to the woman's restroom without checking if there was anyone in the restroom. I came here and was told my wait was going to be 5 minutes. We ended up waiting 20 minutes. When I was sat down, it took them a long time to serve. They may have been short staffed as my server was also in charge of four other tables. Our table was also missing ban chan/side dishes. We had to inform the staff twice for them to eventually bring it out. The meat quality here was also subpar compared to other KBBQ places I have been to. For example, the beef brisket came out all shredded for the first round. By the time, they brought out the second round, we had already finished all the meat and the grill was burnt. They also frequently brought out the wrong meat cuts and stuff that we did not ordered. This was also an issue for the table next to us. As a result, I would hesitate coming here on the weekend as you are charged dinner price of $30.99 but the quality is lacking. read more

I'm a big fan of Kbbq, one of my top 5 ways to eat out. This Gen location in particular is my favorite, have eaten here dozens of times and has the best service and ambience of all the locations I've been to so far. The menu updated and expanded recently to a wider dinner menu with a premium upgrade for rib eye and wagyu cuts and more drink offerings, particularly Soju. The price is decent, especially with the Costco gift cards. If you're looking for a great dinner date and tired of the post-covidflation restaurant squeeze, check this place out, you won't regret it! read more

The service wasn't good at all we were barely acknowledge, we waited at least 10 mins or more to for a plate of meat. The meat quality is horrible, it's like mush. We had a party of 6, and two plates of meat was only able to feed two people ( with a limit of how much of meat we can get). Also the fact they have it advertised that happy hour is 20$ in SMALL font for customers is NOT okay. Which was my bad I understand but everything else was NOT good at all.
