What can I say about Gemma, except how ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC she is! Gemma worked with me and my MOH and our unusual schedule (night shift nurses) for three separate bridal appointments. Took my soon to be daughter in law there and what a joke. Over $1700 for wedding dress alterations. Went down to $900 and tried the scare tactics that it "had to be done now." Wedding is in July. I cannot recommend Gemma's for bridal alterations. The owner, who is the one who works directly with the brides, is not capable of handling the amount of work that her business has. She explained that she cannot find knowledgeable seamstresses here, which I understand. But her prices do not reflect what minimal service is provided. My daughter's dress cost $940 to alter! Every time we arrived for our appointment, she would make us wait at least half an hour. An employee would explain that she was working on the dress. This happened four or five times (it always seemed to be "the final fitting") and we realized that she was so behind in her work that she only worked on the dress when we arrived. The quality of her work looked rushed and imperfect, while she would assure us that it was how it was supposed to be. We gave up trying to fix the problem areas, the day before the wedding! My daughter, who never complains, was sad about her dress. It was never right. read more

I got married Oct 19. Gemma is absolutely amazing. She took my plain, strapless corset-style dress that I got at Brilliant Bridal (discount wedding dress store) and turned it into a dress for a princess. She added beading on the front and back, falling sleeves, altered to fit, a 5-point bustle, and a de-wrinkle/steaming. She turned a dress that I loved into my dream dress. Overall, I spent less than $2000 for my dress (this includes dress cost plus Gemma's alterations) and I truly felt like a princess on my wedding day. Any negative reviews I've read had everything to do with the customer and nothing to do with Gemma. She is hands-down, amazing. HIGHLY recommend! read more

Gemma and her team did an amazing job on my beautiful lace wedding gown, they even packed it well for travel because I had to take it on a plane to get to our wedding. They also helped me out with undergarments as well. It was Gemma's idea to make my train an all-lace train, and it worked out beautifully. Since I'm only 5'1 there was quite a few alterations needed, as you can imagine, and I just love every minute spent in the dress. To say I was absolutely obsessed with my dress is an understatement! Gemma was literally the perfect person for this job. I brought her an off the rack dress from Brilliant Bridal that I had high hopes for, as I desperately wanted sleeves added onto my strapped dress! I looked EVERYWHERE for months and the dress I found was the closest thing to what I wanted but it didn't have sleeves. Adding sleeves onto the dress would also require an entire new designed back as well, so I knew it would be a big project and was nervous about finding the right person to turn this dress into the dress of my dreams! I wasn't sure how it was going to go completely customizing a dress months before my wedding, but Gemma made me feel so comfortable and was so attentive to all of my wants and needs! She turned a size 20 wedding dress into a size 14 with many changes to the actual look of the dress. I spent more on the alterations than I did on the dress, but I got exactly what I wanted. I want to start out by saying the work they do here is fantastic and everyone is very friendly and personable. The prices were very reasonable as well and they didn't charge me extra to steam my veil. I gave 2 stars because when I picked up my dress after my final fitting, I was unaware that they hadn't done all the alterations until my wedding day. The pins from my final fitting were still in the bust of my dress. The alterations had somehow been missed and there was nothing I could do. We had to try and place the pins on the sides so it was less noticeable but I had to deal with pins poking me the entire time I wore it. This was extremely disappointing because they had done a perfect job up until this. I still recommend them I just have advice. Schedule your dress pickup a few days before your wedding and try it on one last time!!! That way you will know if you need any other last minute alterations. I wish I would have tried mine on one last time in the store. read more

My now husband loved it , the last picture I posted to this review is him astonished at my dress and veil she altered, while trying not to cry . I wore his mothers veil from 42 years ago . Everyone wanted to ask about my dress , in pictures the dress would only be average without the alterations Gemma did . We took down the bust line so I'd look more feminine. We did alteration after alteration and 4 fittings . They helped me store my dress the day before the wedding , it needed to be steamed and aired out , I was terrified to take it home to my apartment with my pit bull. That alone I'll never forget, cuz I was stressing not wanting to ruin or wrinkle the lace . The day of I never wanted to take my dress off . No joke , I wish i could wear it everyday. On the days I had no one to come with me to fittings they gave me more comfort . I was having family issues , and Gemma really helped me thru it . Gemma understands people . Warning warning!! - You will be way overcharged for services here! I went in for bridal alterations to my wedding dress. The main thing I needed done is really not complicated. I walked in and had to go up and say 'Hi' because I was not even acknowledged. While I was putting on my dress I was insulted about the size of my bust saying that I had nothing there. I went through a consultation and they told the price of other alterations that my dress needed and the price of the main thing I was in here for.. $300!!??! What?!! For a simple addition to the dress and I mean simply. So I said can I have a write up of everything (I wanted to get a second opinion and a second price check). She said no! She wanted to charge me $35 just for the write up of what she said needed to be done. I left without the write up and jotted down what she said needed to be done (without the pricing since she wouldn't give it). I figured that's that I am going to have to do this simply addition on my own because it is really, really not complicated! I am not skilled at sewing either. I took a class in high school and am okay. But I knew that this job was NOT WORTH $300!! I could do it for $20 in material and less than an hour of work. I researched the business some more (I originally came in because of the rave reviews on The Knot but was scared about people saying that it is overpriced). I saw a pattern in the reviews on The Knot (which were posted through the Wedding Channel. The dates of posting were all very close to each other. I know of a few companies that have gotten in trouble for writing reviews on their own and the dead give away being that they are all posted around the same date in clusters. What do you know Gemma's reviews start with: 2 on 8/13, 3 just three days later on 8/16, 1 the next day 8/17, 2 the next day on 8/18, 1 on 8/19..waited three months for some in between time then back to it 1 on 11/12, 2 on 11/13 and so on and so forth.. I mean come on!! That is an obvious give away that someone is sitting at the computer at the business typing these reviews. Back to my dress - I went to a different tailor (also in Chandler) and she charged me (drum roll....) $40 for the same job they wanted to charge me $300 for!!!!! Holy crap they were going to rip me off majorly. I know that anything that has to do with weddings means an instant high mark-up but charging $260 extra for a job that is only $40!!?? That is just messed up. No I am not some other tailor trying to write a bad review for a competitor (I didn't mention my new tailor's business) but I just want to warn people of these scammers. Oh!! I almost forgot!! Gemma said my dress was in dire need of: the corset being reconstructed & new bust darts... I asked my new tailor if those were needed and she said no. I found a sweet deal of a sale on this black wool jacket that I couldn't pass up on. It is Arizona, and on the 3 days out of the year we can wear such a fashionable jacket - we should do so. Much to my chagrin, the jackets sleeves were too long. No. I do not have short stubby little arms and a big thick fat neck. Stop staring at me. I'm a unique snowflake. Anyway, so I took the jacket to Gemma's paid the 35 or 40 bucks to get the sleeves shortened (is this expensive? I don't know, I pay 20-30+ for my pants to get tailored elsewhere. Don't really care either. I'll pay well for good service.) Was given a timeline of one week. Standard from what I have seen - and acceptable considering how busy the shop was with beautiful brides (when I say beautiful, I mean... wow. If I was a cartoon character, my jaw would have hit the floor and my eyes would have popped out. If either of my wives looked like these amazing ladies I might still be married. Maybe.) The jacket was ready on time - but get this. I was not. I forgot to pick the stupid thing up. Up until I had to leave to go on a trip for work - and I needed the jacket THE NEXT DAY. Gemma actually stayed LATE for me to get my jacket. I called her at 10 minutes to close, and she stayed late for me to pick up my jacket because I, the idiot customer, was in a rush. I am sure this is the exception, not the rule, but still - customer for life. Oh, and in case you are wondering - the first person who saw me in my jacket was my 2nd ex wife, and she insulted me - so I know I looked damned good and extra smoking hot in it. Jealousy is a bitch. I originally came on here to rate Gemma's amazing work until I was distracted by the last review I read. I must say, unless the job required extreme detailed work then she is exaggerating her prices. I have been through many tailors in the chandler area, and have never been satisfied with the outcome. The price was always high, and definitely not worth the money. Gemma has gone above and beyond for me by correcting other tailors mistakes to my desire. Even when other seamstresses' claimed to be impossible. She knows just how to perfect my dresses to fit me the best. I'm petite, so not only do I need to shorten the length of everything i buy, some items need to be tailored in other areas so it fits me like it was made for my body type. I just recently got 3 summer dresses tailored at Artful Tailoring where I was charged $200,(more then i paid for all 3 dresses). When I picked my dresses up I was devastated. Dresses looked like a 2 year old got a hold of some scissors and thread. I brought them into Gemma plus 2 more dresses, she was able to fix his mistake's and accomplish what I originally wanted for only $60! Her work is beyond amazing. She's very detailed and a perfectionist in her work. Honestly, she has done a better job then anyone seamstress I have ever been to. I brought my wedding dress here for alterations and was highly disappointed. First I was sent to the wrong location (an empty store). When I called to let them know I was at the wrong location and to find out where I should be they were very short and unapologetic about giving me the wrong address (apparently their old address). Not a great first impression. During the appointment Gemma acted very annoyed at each request I made. She would either laugh, cut me off and not listen to my thoughts at all or tell me that what I wanted could not be done. She acted as if I was being a crazy bride by wanting these alterations and like she didn't have the time to listen to me. At one point I told her that I wanted the area above my butt to be taken in so that my dress hugged my butt and her response was " no it looks fine the way it is, we leave it", completely dismissing my request! She made me feel like I would not be able to get the dress to fit me the way I wanted it to and like maybe I bought the wrong dress. What a terrible feeling as a bride. After charging me $400 for my dress to NOT be altered to my liking I decided to get my money back before she did anything to it. I felt so uncomfortable leaving my dress in her hands I just couldn't do it. The customer service here was terrible and needless to say I would not recommend their services. Gemma- I suggest listening to your clients needs and wants instead of dismissing their thoughts entirely. I'm writing to respond to Samantha L's review as well as reassure customers that Gemma and her sister who run the shop are the real deal. I was a plus size bride of Gemma's and had her do some altering on my dress from the recommendation of a girlfriend who's actively involved with pageants in the valley. Reading Samantha's review is like reading something from a parallel universe because her experience is nothing like describing Gemma and her professionalism. I emphasize I was a plus size bride because already I was self-conscience about not being able to fit into my ideal dress. I remember Gemma's delight when I first came out with my dress on and she sincerely complimented me on how beautiful I looked in it. I can't imagine Gemma commenting on the size of anyone's bust because frankly, (no offense here G.. but she's a tiny, cute woman herself). Gemma was pricey but her work was worth it. I've read in countless magazines to be prepared to add on anywhere from 300-500 to your budget dress for alterations and she came within our budget. We also had her get my dress ready for storing after the wedding. I'm curious- if you could do it for $20 in material and less than an hour of work; why didn't you??? The audacity of accusing someone of writing their own reviews without concrete evidence and just endless babble is pretty pathetic and very harmful to the reputation and integrity of a business. Be careful of what you spout off because it will come back to bight you someday.. as proof of the experience you had with your $40 tailor and your horrible review of her too. After moving to Pheonix-metro from Philadelphia, I have spent 6 months looking for a good men's tailoring shop. I am 99.99% sure that this place is it. Just got back from a suit pant fitting (take in waist, hem and taper) at Gemma's. Lynne was the super nice lady at the front desk who took the measurements and knew exactly how a suit pant should fit. I didn't even have to mention anything about leg breaks. After a full "pin-up," the pants looked custom-made. I will be picking up the finished product next week but based on the fitting, I am not going to be disappointed. I had no idea this place performed men's tailoring - they do. And they're really good at it. Will be bringing in all of my dress pants here along with some blazer adjustments. Interior was well-organized, extremely clean and professional. They do ask for payment prior to tailoring -- which is not only reasonable but also normal at a reputable tailoring shop. Gemma is such an amazing person and did equally an amazing job on my wedding dress. From the very beginning she was very responsive and helpful, even in the craziness of the unknown with COVID. Gemma was able to get me in right away to alter my dress. She knew exactly what I needed to make the dress fit perfectly and even knew what I wanted when I couldn't figure out a way to articulate what I wanted :) She was able to do some custom alterations by adding a slit to my dress and adding straps. She also made me the perfect custom veil to go with my dress that was simple, beautiful, and elegant. It complemented my dress very well without taking away from it. We had to push back our wedding by a year and she was able to keep the dress safe until I was ready to pick it up. When I got the dress and tried it on for that last fitting, it was perfect! I called Suzanne and she referred me to Gemma . Horrible customer service!!! The minute we walked in the girl was rude and so was the lady who looked at the dress to be altered. Worst thing was the lady that looked over the dress just flung the curtain open before my daughter was finished getting her dress on.
