(Or Codename: The Mysterious Gentleman, or Le Tigre de la saleté). No one knows his real name save for his caretaker, who also has a codename: Teh Hotness. The staff that I've encountered here have always been the eccentric type, but you can tell they work there because they likely also have a menagerie at home. Not unlike Ace Ventura, I can imagine them walking into their homes and extending their arms upwards only to be seconds later covered with creatures from Wild Kingdom. Many of the display cases are open, and you are allowed interaction with the safer critters...rabbits, a cluster of hedgehogs (or a Hedgehoggery, as it's called in the biz. Did you know that a group of hedgehogs is called "An array"..as in "An array of hedgehogs ate my grandmother!". It's true.) It may smell like dumpster juice in there, and the kids who work there may take too keen an interest in feeding mice to lizards and snakes, but they're by-and-large good people and the business is interesting to visit, should you ever find yourself in need of an exotic pet. Just don't complain to someone if you find yourself sans a finger from that desert monitor you thought would be cool draped over your shoulders at parties.

I was looking for a gift for a cat and dog lover when my neighbor recommended Tomlinson's,…read morespecifically this location near Target. I had never been to a Tomlinson's before--honestly, I had never even heard of it since they don't have any in California. I learned during my visit that there are 18 locations in Austin, and WOW, what an amazing store! The customer service here is on another level--it honestly felt like the hospitality of a high-end hotel. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, even opening the door for customers. They truly go out of their way to help, and I'm not exaggerating! I believe the employee who assisted me was Vanessa, and she was fantastic. She helped me pick out the perfect gifts, especially for the cat-related items since I don't have a cat myself. I was shopping for an 8-year-old who has two cats, so I wanted the best toys. I ended up choosing a faux rabbit foot toy with feathers for self-play, a classic "Lambie" plush, and a handmade hemp catnip mouse with a long tail for interactive play. I even learned a lot about catnip, which I had heard of before but didn't actually know much about--this staff is truly knowledgeable! I also brought my dog with me, and not only did he have a blast playing with other dogs, but the store also gave him free treats to try. They even sent me home with some freeze-dried sample treats, which was such a nice touch. The selection of dog toys here is incredible--I'd honestly be hesitant to bring a child in because the toys are so high-quality, they could pass for children's toys! I ended up getting an amazing eco-friendly crocodile toy made entirely of recycled materials. Its legs are ropes for tug-of-war, and its hollow body holds a replaceable water bottle that creates that satisfying crunching sound dogs love. Once the bottle is chewed up, you can swap it out for a new one--such a smart design! This store has everything--leashes, collars, treats, and a huge variety of toys for both tiny and giant dogs. They also had the cutest little plush toys shaped like root vegetables with adorable faces--absolutely melted my heart! Prices were super affordable, too. Honestly, after seeing what they offer, I don't see the point in ordering pet supplies on Amazon anymore. Stores like this deserve our support, and it's a place my dog genuinely enjoys visiting. I was also looking for travel-sized dog food for a trip and found some perfect 3.5 oz pouches for only $2, which I could take in my carry-on. While browsing, I noticed a lot of repeat customers stopping in just to grab their favorite treats from a self-serve treat station, kind of like those bulk snack bins at Sprouts or Whole Foods. Next time, I'll have to check it out for my dog! Another thing I need to ask about is their nail trimming service, which my neighbor mentioned. While I was there, I even saw the staff helping deliver an adopted puppy to its new home--such a sweet moment! And as I was checking out, I learned they offer same-day delivery, which is so convenient. I haven't placed an order yet, but it's good to know that option exists. Overall, this was such a fun and memorable shopping experience. I'll definitely be coming back and getting all my pet supplies here from now on!

They meow incessantly but are unashamed at being a circus freak show act for stray pets. I love them both. (Their names are Kitty and Kat (with a K for legal purposes). My Minor Bird has grown into a full fledged adult bird and Petco has been there the whole way, providing bird seed, and those chalk thingees that they like to sharpen their beaks with. My bird (now named Major) is happily engaged to the only other bird it has ever known "Bea." Petco has known Bea for six years but she came from parts unknown and seems to have a sketchy past. But Petco doesn't judge their pets and neither do I! In fact, we are holding the wedding for my two birds, the holy union of Bea-Major, at Petco just as soon as they release my aunt from the "institution." (She loves Petco and used to buy her kitty litter there even though she didn't own a cat. Now that's what I call loyalty!) Anyway, my snapping turtle is a rescue - having come from the Austin Snapping Turtle Rescue facility and we think he is fixed because he shows no interest in turtles that we show pictures of in the IPad. I know Petco is looking for Snapping Turtle Groomers so when you get one. Make sure to let everyone d know. His name is Sid and he's a nice little turtle so long as you don't get on his bad side. I find that he doesn't like booming rap music by L'il Wayne like other critters do.

Today I came in to the vet with my dog Tokio, who had matted hair around the tips of his ears which I was very confused about because it seemed like something else was going on under there. When i took him here, the lady at the front desk for the vet office was incredibly sweet and super nice, told me they were taking tokio to the back to cut his hair then keep updating me. She then came back and told me she thinks tokio got into a pile of ants and they bit him all around his ears (which makes sense because tokio is the most adventurous dog i know). Overall, the visit was super helpful. they gave us antibibotics, and a list of other ways to clean his ears so they don't get more infected.
