When going to the vet, usually the experience can be pretty painful, with a lack of specific diagnoses sometimes. Today I came in to the vet with my dog Tokio, who had matted hair around the tips of his ears which I was very confused about because it seemed like something else was going on under there. When i took him here, the lady at the front desk for the vet office was incredibly sweet and super nice, told me they were taking tokio to the back to cut his hair then keep updating me. She then came back and told me she thinks tokio got into a pile of ants and they bit him all around his ears (which makes sense because tokio is the most adventurous dog i know). Overall, the visit was super helpful. they gave us antibibotics, and a list of other ways to clean his ears so they don't get more infected. read more

I would score Petco higher if they had a Mexican Snapping Turtle grooming center. They groom my Sheepdog, Baaaaaaaxter with great care and are extra careful with my Siamese-Twin cat(s) who are fused together at the hips. They meow incessantly but are unashamed at being a circus freak show act for stray pets. I love them both. (Their names are Kitty and Kat (with a K for legal purposes). My Minor Bird has grown into a full fledged adult bird and Petco has been there the whole way, providing bird seed, and those chalk thingees that they like to sharpen their beaks with. My bird (now named Major) is happily engaged to the only other bird it has ever known "Bea." Petco has known Bea for six years but she came from parts unknown and seems to have a sketchy past. But Petco doesn't judge their pets and neither do I! In fact, we are holding the wedding for my two birds, the holy union of Bea-Major, at Petco just as soon as they release my aunt from the "institution." (She loves Petco and used to buy her kitty litter there even though she didn't own a cat. Now that's what I call loyalty!) Anyway, my snapping turtle is a rescue - having come from the Austin Snapping Turtle Rescue facility and we think he is fixed because he shows no interest in turtles that we show pictures of in the IPad. I know Petco is looking for Snapping Turtle Groomers so when you get one. Make sure to let everyone d know. His name is Sid and he's a nice little turtle so long as you don't get on his bad side. I find that he doesn't like booming rap music by L'il Wayne like other critters do. read more

Horrible service at the grooming center. Went in( after they had rescheduled me the day before) and stood at the counter for 10 minutes unacknowledged. After checking in, they basically refused service because they had a note that my dog shakes his back legs due to anxiety. If they could call me the day before to reschedule, then save my gas and time and tell me they can't do the service at all. I drove 25 minutes and rearranged my work day to make this appointment happen. This is the second time in the past two visits they have either rescheduled me and now refused service whenever I have never had a problem at a petco for my dog's anxiety. They are very combative when talking to their customers. Will not be coming back. read more

I went in to purchase an additional aquarium, to add my collection and 12 neon tetras on this visit. I have been an aquarium hobbyist for 12+ years and have kept many different types of freshwater fish. I normally do not go to the big stores for fish but decided to try here anyway out of convience. I was shocked at how they handled the animals. The girl that got the fish from the tank did not use a net. She took a clear container and pushed all the decor away and was trying to scoop the fish out with the container. After several minutes she finally scooped out 12 having stressed out the entire tank and leaving the most stressed in the bag for me to take home. I could tell by the behavior and coloration of the fish that they were critically stressed. I decided against purchasing another tank after this and chose not say anything and thought that I could care for them. I should have walked out the minute I saw her handling them. 5 of the fish were dead before I got home. Another 3 died that night and the rest the day after. My wife brought them back to the store on Saturday Nov 1. The associate stated that they looked up my receipt with my phone number and had processed the return. It has been over a week and I have still not seen my return. To say I am not satisfied is an understatement. I am concerned about any animals that are in the care of Petco and what the standards set by the company look like. The lack of concern for proper handling of something as simple as freshwater fish at this location is disappointing and unfortunate. It has made an impression on me that will be difficult to rectify and will raise concerns for others in the hobby and those new to it looking to purchase fish. I hope that someone is able to fix this situation and find a reasonable solution,or at the very least find people that will handle the animals appropriately. To anyone new to the hobby, DO NOT PURCHASE FISH that are mishandled. Walk away and go to a local store dedicated and concerned with proper care. Aquadome is a great location in S Austin and is worth the drive. read more

worst experience ever. i had my small dog reserved with Kyle Petco after cancelling with another groomer due to pricing and fast availability. when i got there, i pointed out to be careful with her front leg because she had a stroke a 5 years ago and never got full mobility due to it. they instantly declined my dog and refused to groom her. i was so infuriated because it was very important. her human mom was coming out of the hospital from a near death experience and i wanted her pride and joy to look beautiful for her. the manager was nasty to me and extremely rude. I spoke to the general manager about protocol in the future that if a dog has any disability, they need to ask about it just like rabies shots. This review is for the Vet experience. Yesterday I took my pup in for some issues I was worried about. I was iffy about going to a new location but I'm glad I chose this one. I was greeted by Shelby who was the vet tech and she was very nice, thorough and helpful with the entire experience. She made me feel comfortable so I knew my pup would be safe when she took him back. Shelby had great alternate suggestions if I was concerned with the costs of things so that was helpful! Dr. Causey was so easy to talk to!! She explained to me what was going on and that it was of no concern. I went in the Petco app to order food for one year old Labradoodle, and I wasn't able to order "until they opened." I placed the order right at 9am, and because I work from home, my husband agreed to go pick up the food. I told him the back story so that he would know that we just placed the order, and they may need some time to go grab it. Apparently, my husband was met with a VERY annoyed employee stating, "You should wait at least an hour before picking up an online order." *This conversation occurred in the back of the store because my husband KNEW we had done this last second and figured he would go grab the food himself because of the inconvenience. The employee actually already had the food on the cart. While I understand it's not something you want to be doing first thing in the morning- this is your JOB. Manager John gave above and beyond customer service to set us up with a dog stroller 3 days before the Buda Wiener Dog Races. We ordered online for pickup in Kyle. During the night, online cancelled the order and refunded because the Kyle store was actually sold out. . Owner John accepted my call before the store opened. He understood our need and with just a few minutes he contacted the manager of another location who lives in Kyle. He arranged for her to hand deliver the stroller for us when she got off work. Jenn at the groomer took care of my little dog today. My dog had an injury a long time ago, which makes me feel extra protective of her little body. Jenn was attentive, speedy, careful with the location of her injury. She got one of her teammates to calm my dog while they worked diligently. Equally important Jenn did NOT make me feel like I was being extra by being an over protective dog mom. She was authentic and would give me time updates even though I wasn't in a hurry, but it was youthful. Her teammate walked out and complimented Jenn too (it's great when you draw compliments from your coworkers, says a lot about Jenn as a person). Her work was perfect, my dog looks great. Jenn made a billing error, and got her manager to correct it. She called it out herself, and saved us $$. Wow, what an amazing human Petco got lucky with! Integrity, kindness, skilled My little one and I left very happy thanks to Jenn and the entire experience we had with her. Sidenote...I hate pet stores and anyone who thinks it's okay to cage birds, ferrets, snakes, or to cage anything, specially for profit. I see most reviews on here are for the grooming shop, which I have never had experience with, but I have had a wonderful experience in this store each time I've been. I have a young toddler and I have been in a few times to let him learn about and see animals (they have lizards, snakes, spiders, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, turtles and more). Each time I have been in, the employees are soooo welcoming and knowledgeable about the animals. They have always taken them out to let my son, and other children in the store, pet and explore them. I have never been in a pet store where the employees go out of their way to show and teach kids about the animals they have there. This last time, an employee named Scott was so nice and letting about 5 kids interact with a ferret. I noticed he was also helping a teenage girl wanting to buy a hamster and was very patient and informative. I will definitely be back to this store to buy all my cats needs :) read more

Hannah never introduced herself, as it was our first experience at petco for grooming- she was not friendly and doesn't seem to care about dogs, customer service, or special requests. I asked my dog be cut and not shaved as she has silky straight long coat. I got a phone call 50 minutes later to pick her up. That's suspiciously way to soon. Hannah did not show her to me before paying. Poor practice, again. Upon paying I was charged an extra $7 for a shaving that I asked her not to do, then an additional $5 for material fee?! My dog does not smell clean and she has almost no hair left! Not to mention choppy and uneven. I asked for a teddy bear head shape, and she has a blunt shaved choppy face. Absolutely embarrassing. Have been to the Petco in Kyle several times recently to pick out and purchase two pet rats for my daughter. Having been to many pet stores over the years we have learned that getting good help is very hit or miss at these big name locations. We hit the jackpot with Jasmine at this location. She is very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. She has gone way out of her way to assist us with issues that came up with our new pets. She even went so far as to help us on her days off to make sure our guys got taken care of properly. You can definitely tell she has a passion for the animals (and she's great with people too). Whatever y'all are paying her you need to double it so you don't lose her. Petco (and others) could use more employees like Jasmine. read more

I went in today for treats for my dog. The cashier named Conner with a bee tattoo on his hand was so rude to me for no reason! The store wasn't busy, there wasn't a line behind me. He had a horrible tone. Didn't give me a bag for my items. Spoke to me rudely when the keypad asked for my number and goes "you don't need to put that in" well how am I to know that if you don't say anything? I sympathize with service & retail worker during this time because I'm sure they have to deal with a lot but I found his attitude totally unnecessary. I recently got a guinea pig about 2 weeks ago and loved the help I had. They had all the basic things I needed to get my guinea pig home started. I will say they always seem a bit under-stocked, but they had all the basics. I just got a new guinea pig friend for the one I got a couple weeks ago and loved how informed the woman who helped me was! She even gave me some tips for introducing my new piggie to the one I already had. I felt like a better guinea parent after leaving. I wish I got her name, but she knew so much about guinea pigs that she should give classes on it! read more

I like this Petco location because it's small and friendly. I usually go here when I need to pick up one or two items. I've never had a problem with the selection, although the store is quite smaller than a lot of other pet stores I've gone to. I have never used the grooming here, as I have a groomer down the street. But each time I've come, they've been swamped with grooming appointments! The location is great and the atmosphere is clean. It appears all the animals are kept up with -- which can't be said in other store locations. I like to look at the birds, reptiles and so forth. If I could make one change, it'd probably just be more sales! haha I love a good deal. They will match PetSmart and they will match their website. read more

Visited here the other day, mainly because it's close to my house, and convenient, but also because they had the dog food I was looking for, advertised online, for $43.99. That is comparable to the usual price I pay, from their main big box pet store competitor, which is located in San Marcos, and Souf Austin. I located the brand, and size I desired, which is exactly what I looked up online, at petco.com, and it was $61.99, in the store!! What the heck???? In addition, nobody greeted me upon entering the store, approached while I was shopping, or was even available to inquire about the price discrepancy. I walked out, and drove to their competitors store, and got what I needed for approx. $52.00 with tax! The lack of customer service, along with unreasonable pricing, will be keeping me far away from here. read more
