One of our favorite places! We love everything from the plain bean and cheese burrito to some of their "fancier" choices with mango salsa or jalapeño cream cheese or the spinach cheese sauce! Don't know what happened to the service here. It's a Saturday night at 7 pm. 13 empty tables inside and 8 empty tables outside, and 7 empty seats at the outdoor bar. We would normally sit at a bar because there's no waiting time. However here, there was a waiting time of 10-15 minutes to sit at a half empty bar! We almost walked out to go somewhere else. Management here can't seem to either staff adequately or manage the seating. Doesn't make sense! Especially when competitors doesn't have this problem and the food elsewhere is about the same quality. Such a shame. read more

This was the worst quesadilla I have had, I ordered the Mango quesadilla with Carne, but it came with shredded beef, maybe 5 small pieces of mango in ot and hardly any cream cheese jalapeno in it. Gecko grill is an amazing Mexican restaurant that I enjoy going to when I want fast casual dining. I went here for the second time with my family on a Friday night. Usually the wait time to be seated inside is a lot longer than sitting outside during peak hour time, but Gecko offers heaters which is usually good enough for me to keep warm during the winter season. I got the Tampiquena which is a flatten grilled steak with rice and beans with red salsa instead of the green because I don't like the unique sweetness of the green salsa but my wife and parents love it. My wife got the Steak Fajitas with corn tortilla. There is not much to say about this because it's a pretty basic faijtas. Finally I also ordered the Vallarta Enchilada which was okay it was something my mom has ordered and did not enjoy it too much. Other than that it was a very nice experience read more

I had been craving Mexican food for a while and a friend of mine had recommended this place. So I thought I would give it a try. This place is a fusion gringo Mexican restaurant. It has the makings of a possibly great restaurant but it falls short. The chips, salsa and bean dip are enjoyable. Not the best chips but they were good. I ordered the fiesta burro. It sounded really good with chicken and a jalapeño cream cheese sauce with a mango salsa. I wasn't too sure about the mango salsa so I asked for another salsa just in case. Surprisingly the mango salsa was awesome and so was the jalapeño cream cheese sauce it wasn't spread evenly throughout the whole burrito so parts were tasty and other parts not so much. The chicken in the burrito was dry and seemed like it was leftover chicken and there was rice which I didn't understand why it was in the burrito but I guess it's filler because there wasn't much chicken in the burrito. The tortilla was fresh but it was too floury (not sure if that's a word. My wife got salad wrapped salmon tacos and she said they were good but nothing stood out about them. My son got a burrito and he said it was ok. Like I said I want to like this place and it could be great but some of the ingredients were less than high quality. Maybe they are good quality but not cooked correctly like my chicken which was dry. Honestly. I am a little disappointed and not sure I would come back again. As a side not about their safety and cleanliness. I know everyone wants to get back to normal but only the people handling the takeout orders were wearing masks. None of the waiters or bus people were wearing masks. The busboys were busting their butts to clear tables and keep them clean. read more

This is 2 stars because the food is actually good. It's really sad that you can't trust that your getting the thing that you actually ordered and it's equally sad when it's not cheap. On numerous occasions my husband and I have ordered things checked the bag before we left the restaurant to make sure it all is there and it is. Then get all the way home start eating an realize that what you ordered isn't inside the burrito or mini chimis. How disappointing. We have tried going back time and again to just be let down. This is my favorite Mexican food and deserves more stars. Yes it's a little more expensive but it's good quality and FREE CHIPS AND SALSA AAAANNNNDDDD BEAN DIP!!!! The green sauce is sweet and tangy. My favorite is the smothered tamale and the shredded beef crunchy taco. They bring as much chips as you want but only one bean dip. It's a perfect date night with a cute patio. read more

Stopped in for a last minute lunch with a friend. The inside isn't super impressive but I wish it wasn't so humid and hot out because the patio bar and seating area looked nice. Big variety of dishes with a different menu than what you see at a typical Mexican restaurant. I got the chicken quesadilla with the jalapeño cream cheese and it was probably one of the best quesadillas I have ever had. Big portions so I had the rest for dinner. i had been going to gecko grill for over 20 years! Over the years things slowly we're taking a turn, yesterday was such a sad day as I don't think I will return again. I decided to take a friend there for dinner. She was so excited to go but literally everything was extra, bean dip extra charge, guacamole, extra, sour cream extra, chips now have an extra charge! To top it off the precious veggie burrito was completely changed and when I asked if I could have it the old way the total was double the price!! Not to mention they did away with a very simple rewards system to deter people away rather than reward them for coming in. Outrageous and no thanks. Our family has had Gecko Grill as one of our favorites for many years. The food is amazing. But when I was there for lunch a few weeks ago, it was Day 2 of them having activated robot servers/bussers. The robots have destroyed the warm, family atmosphere and have created an impersonal and distracting feeling for me as a customer. I can't imagine why they would have made such a ridiculous business decision--which obviously also increased their prices dramatically. We went to our old standby Macayo's the other night--and we loved interacting with our terrific HUMAN server. We have left Gecko Grill permanently. read more

They are so friendly! Immediately when I walked in, everyone said hi and hello to me. There was no wait and we were immediately sat at a table. They brought over a basket of chip with 2 salsas (red and green) and a bean dip. I really liked the salsa verde. It was slightly sweet, maybe with a hint of garlic? The menu was pretty big. I did not see any lunch specials. I ordered the mini chimichangas with chicken and beef. My husband ordered a carne asada chimichanga with a side of rice and beans. My boys order a cheese quesadilla with fries. My chimichangas came 6 on a plate with guacamole in a tortilla cup on a bed and of shredded lettuce. I was pleasantly surprised that these only had shredded meat in them, no sauce or rice or other fillers. I thought these were very delicious and filling. I ate 3 and was stuffed. Excellent Mexican restaurant in a very nondescript shopping center. They are generally very busy for the evening crowd and the reason is is that the service and food are outstanding. The food is very fresh and the servings are robust. The chips come with three different sauces including an excellent bean dip. The servers are very attentive and efficient. Gecko is a long time favorite of ours. We love the bean dip and green salsa. They do a good job at keeping the inside clean and clearing tables fast. Friday and Saturday night is always packed but if you go early enough the wait isnt very long. My all time favorite is: (keep in mind that i LOVE the bean dip) Bean and cheese burrito, sub bean dip, add white spinach cheese sauce on top. We love the place. I hesitate to tell everyone else how good the breakfasts are here. This morning we thought about trying a new place, but the waits were ridiculous everywhere else. We've been eating at Gecko since it first opened under the "Hot Barbecue" sign on Baseline over 20 years ago. The food is excellent, usually perfect. Though it is affiliated with Moreno's it alone has a smoker for its meats and offers shredded pork that is the best in the world. New ownership/management has stayed true to the tradition established by Francisco and Martina, and has actually upgraded the offerings (if you're a drinker) by finishing the patio and adding a bar. I love many other Mexican restaurants but Gecko is numero uno for us, hands down. read more

Everything was exactly as requested. The surprising part was how neatly the veggie burrito was folded and wrapped so perfectly. Also each of the styrofoam containers had been neatly hand labelled. Stopped in today for lunch. Took longer than normal to order as we couldn't make up our minds what to have. Everything sounded so good. While deciding we sampled the salsa, green salsa and beans they served with chips. All three were good enough to make a meal of just that. Beau ordered a bowl of Tortilla Soup - chock full of ingredients & big enough to share if I wanted. I chose the Two of a Kind off the From the Sea menu - one salmon taco and one fish taco. Both were very tasty. Salmon was served with mango salsa and the fish taco had cabbage and cheese. Rice & beans round out the dish. The beau chose the Pollo Fundido. That too was full of huge chucks of shredded chicken. That meal also came with rice & beans. We left with enough for dinner later. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The veins and seeds were still inside and made the dish just awful because of how hard the seeds had become. This little "family" owned restaurant started out super small! From their humble beginnings they have grown into, in my opinion, the best Mexican food restaurant in the Valley! Their food is so fresh and delicious! For instance, their Special Chimi, which you can have with Chicken, beef or pork, is AMAZING! I used to get it with chicken all the time. I come here often. So it is with a heavy heart that I write this review. Most of the time, things are fine. I came here this morning, today, at 7am. I was the only customer. I ordered a green chili omelette as the green chili is quite good. What I did NOT order was a BUG in my food. I didn't even get one bite. Not sure what kind of bug, as it was covered in sauce, but it could have been a small cockroach. I alerted the staff and they too observed it. This was at 720am, Sunday, 9/3. This review is more for other customers. I have eaten my share of disgusting things, so I simply reordered and even ordered something to go. But I do know how people don't like insects with their meal. And to be honest, it really is unacceptable. I read in a different review that they uphold the highest cleanliness and food handling standards (or something like that). But this bug would prove otherwise. Get it fixed! I speak so highly of your restaurant. Don't let complacency, laziness, cheapness, or whatever you want to call it, take business away. And for God's sake, if someone has a bug in their food, don't give them a bill for at least that specific menu to item. UPDATE: I had to send my to go order back because they gave me the wrong item. Just ate here. Terrible service. Whole restaurant wide open and get sat next to the emergency exit. 11:31am we are sat, we don't see a server until 11:41am. Takes our order, comes back with drinks. I ordered shrimp cocktail to start. Server doesn't come and check on us from 11:43am to 12:01pm. Had to go to front to ask for a refill. Food dropped off 12:01pm. Got my burrito but still no shrimp cocktail. That comes 2-3 minutes later. Server doesn't come back over until 12:10pm and by then we were done eating. Finally offers refills but was too late.
