We are new to this side of town & wanted a decent breakfast place. What we find was so much more than we expected! The service was great, the place was clean but the food is what really tipped it for us. I ordered the chicken fried steak w/ gravy and eggs and my husband ordered the breakfast burrito. My sister, a friend and I went to this restaurant. I ordered a Chile relleno. The Chile relleno was not properly cleaned. The veins and seeds were still inside and made the dish just awful because of how hard the seeds had become. I thought the salsa was too sweet and the green sauce that came with my meal was also sweet. It was just very off putting expecting a classic, delicious relleno and getting that. I come here often. So it is with a heavy heart that I write this review. Most of the time, things are fine. I came here this morning, today, at 7am. I was the only customer. I ordered a green chili omelette as the green chili is quite good. What I did NOT order was a BUG in my food. I didn't even get one bite. Not sure what kind of bug, as it was covered in sauce, but it could have been a small cockroach. I alerted the staff and they too observed it. This was at 720am, Sunday, 9/3. This review is more for other customers. I have eaten my share of disgusting things, so I simply reordered and even ordered something to go. But I do know how people don't like insects with their meal. And to be honest, it really is unacceptable. I read in a different review that they uphold the highest cleanliness and food handling standards (or something like that). But this bug would prove otherwise. Get it fixed! I speak so highly of your restaurant. Don't let complacency, laziness, cheapness, or whatever you want to call it, take business away. And for God's sake, if someone has a bug in their food, don't give them a bill for at least that specific menu to item. UPDATE: I had to send my to go order back because they gave me the wrong item. We decided to try The Gecko Grill for lunch. We were greeted and seated quickly, we sat in the outdoor bar area. Our drink order was taken quickly. The free chips and salsa were ok, nothing special. I had ordered a Tamale and a Taco. Both were average. My husband had the Mini Chimis and said they were ok. Again, nothing special. Just ate here. Terrible service. Whole restaurant wide open and get sat next to the emergency exit. 11:31am we are sat, we don't see a server until 11:41am. Takes our order, comes back with drinks. I ordered shrimp cocktail to start. Server doesn't come and check on us from 11:43am to 12:01pm. Had to go to front to ask for a refill. Food dropped off 12:01pm. Got my burrito but still no shrimp cocktail. That comes 2-3 minutes later. Server doesn't come back over until 12:10pm and by then we were done eating. Finally offers refills but was too late. Food was ok; no one overly impressed. Service was real bad. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

Had lunch here during a Girl's Day Out and was impressed with the immediate service as we entered and was seated. The casual, colorful atmosphere, music & decor were inviting. The menus are beautifully designed with several choices of food and drinks! The waitress was prompt, smiling and friendly. I enjoyed the Chicken Mango Quesadilla and a Purple Margarita, all very fresh and delicious! I could find absolutely nothing wrong with Gecko Grill and will be returning again to try more eats! This place is like the IHOP of Mexican food. Interesting variety. Kind of a standardized feel to the food/menu. Get a lot of food for what you pay. Pretty good above average. Two words: food poisoning. Im staying with a few friends in Phoenix and we wanted to grab something to eat before going to Fat Cats. This place was in the same parking lot as Fat Cats so seemed good enough for us. There were three in our party and two of us ordered the Gecko Burro/Burrito. Big mistake. We knew something was wrong when the Gecko burrito was covered in a mysterious looking white cream cheese sauce. I ate only about half but that was enough. Unfortunately my friend ate the whole thing. Thank god my friends have two bathrooms or else it would have been a nightmare. Aside from the horrific food poisoning the service was just okay and the food was overpriced. We will never ever eat here again and we suggest you don't either! read more

They are not practicing social distancing at all! The wait staff are not using masks nor the cook staff. Tables are not separated and are not using disposable menus or salt and pepper packets as other restaurants are doing now with Covid-19. We left as soon as we seen what was NOT happening. Great meal & live music tonight at Gecko Grill. We were looking for dinner after our apt at QC Reflexology that is a few doors down. Hubby was drawn in by the live music & the awesome patio setting. It was busy yet we got a patio table within 10 minutes. The young man playing acoustic guitar was very talented. We will be back to see him play again.He is there Fri & Sat nights. Hubby had chicken fajitas. I had shrimp ceviche tostado & we shared a chicken mango quesadilla..We were so full from our chips & salsa & entrees we didn't have room for the quesadilla. The food was fresh & served hot. The Corona Light was very cold & the margarita was tasty. The service was prompt & friendly. We will be bank. read more

The lack of service received at our last visit was everything you should NOT do. The so-called "supervisor" Samantha was inconsiderate, condescending, rude, and flat out unprofessional. If you are in the business of hospitality, then you need to understand what that means. We overheard her conversation with the table in front of us l, which was just as horrific, and they left just as upset. The food came out extremely late, we were almost done eating when my daughters plate was finally brought out. Prior to that, the food for my grandbabies was late and cold. There was never an apology, and all she did was show her long straight face with nothing but "I cants." It's pretty obvious Samantha does not enjoy her job, and it seems she's there because she has no other choice. We frequent this restaurant alot but this will be the last time we go! Going out to enjoy breakfast with your family should be a pleasant experience, one we pay for, and she made it frustrating. This is certainly not the kind of memorable experience you want to leave your customers with. This place needs to train their employees on how to treat and talk to customers! Unbelievable! read more

It's a shame this location is a sole proprietorship. The food is great, the supervisor on the other hand needs some work. At what point does the customer come first? Our kids food was left on the line and wasn't brought to the table until we asked for it; at that point it was cold. The rest of my family of five had their plates in front of them and I had to wait an extra 15 minutes. Whether it was an error on the server's end or lack of staff in the kitchen, there's no need for anyone in a party going out to eat to have to wait for their food. Having been in the restaurant industry for 10+ years; management at that, Samantha, the supervisor of the restaurant handled the situation very poorly. Aside from her interaction with our table and not wanting to resolve the issue at hand, we also observed her customer service skills with another table and they also left very unhappy. We simply asked that she comp the meal from the check being that it was late and she informed that she needs to follow the policy. Having worked for an owner rather than a corporation I understand, but at what point is the customer right? Instead of arguing and ruining the experience. Had there been a foreign object in my food would I have had to pay for it then? I then asked for operations number to resolve it above her because she informed that she was only the supervisor and she wasn't sure how to handle the situation (poor girl), but she also lacked that information. She informed me she'd call authorities if the meal wasnt paid for (always consider who you might be talking ). We are a large family and we frequent this restaurant often but she definitely ruined the experience for us and we will not be returning. read more

Me and my husband and daughter went here to eat last night. He put our name on the list at around 8 pm Maybe a little before. They never told us a wait time. People after us started coming and they told them they are no longer taking any more names because they close at 9 and the wait was over 35 minutes. They closed the right side of the restaurant down and the back was not open. It was almost like they were trying to make us wait longer so we would leave. We waited and got sat around 840 pm. I tried to order a drink and the waitress with the reddish orange hair said you no longer have the margaritas with the beer so I asked for the drink menu she said oh yeah drinks can't be order past 830 pm. I asked why did the other half of the restaurant get shut down otherwise we would've been seated. She said she would go talk to her boss. While she was doing so we got up and left and told everyone up front we are leaving and will never be back. We have been going here for years. I have never had this experience or bad vibe. You can truly tell the people there don't wanna be there, you need to find a better crew that treats customers Nice. All's they said was ok have a good night they got what they wanted for us to leave. Even The customers seated before us said do you have the feeling they are trying to make us wait longer so we will leave. A bunch of people working left at 830 or before and you guys lost a lot of customers trying to eat there as well. I have never felt so mistreated. We've done several take out orders from here and it's extremely frustrating when you order chips and salsa and they only give you a couple small cups of salsa. When I ask for more they won't give you enough salsa for my two orders of chips and salsa for half a bag. If your salsa is that valuable to not give me enough for half a bag and we have two bags, I'll take my business to another place that puts customers first. I've never seen this at any other restaurant. If your salsa is that valuable, I'll let you conserve it by going to other Mexican restaurants who put customers first! read more

I have eaten at Gecko for many years, however I will not be going back anymore. There are some very good dishes here...or at least there was. Now it seems that either they are not taking proper care of their meat, or just buying poor quality beef, or perhaps just using meat that has expired. On the last two occasions I visited the restaurant, the meat had a bad taste (meat that has expired or not handled/stored properly). First dish was the tampiquena, the next dish I had a week later was the fajitas with steak. I had a few bites and tried to cover up the bad tasting meat with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, etc. However after a few bites, the steak made me sick to my stomach. This also happened the previous visit with a different cut of meat (tampiquena). I let the server know about the bad meat, and all she did was "I will tell the cook". This is a review for two visits that took place the end of December 2017. Trying to catch up on reviews. Visit 1: (12/2/2017) Will give this visit 2.5 stars. Second Saturday in December. Service was OK but not focused. Seemed to change people a couple of times. Chips and salsa were "ok". Wife an I both ordered sour cream enchiladas. Well they don;t call it sour cream they call it crab sauce. Both of our orders were served without any sauce. After flagging down yet another server, we got two cups of sauce with the excuse that they were out and had to make it fresh...I am calling BS on that...then why send the order out with two lonely naked enchiladas? On the plus side the crab (sour cream) sauce was really tasty. Rice and charro beans were also "ok". Visit 2: ( 12/15) Ordered the same thing as visit number 1. Chips tasted as if they were three days old. Broken pieces...burned chips and tasted awful. No I didn't complain. You know, sometimes you just want to relax and eat a meal. This time the enchilada's came with the crab sauce. However they charged us $1.20 each for this sauce. I told her last time there was no sauce. This is not stated on the menu. The server (again one of many) said "oh they must have changed it." The menu says enchiladas with ANY sauce. Again...didn't want to argue over three bucks. Server should have taken care of this with management. Bottom line.... You lost a customer forever. As you know, most people just leave don't complain and never return. Check the other posts here about service and consistency. You cant survive forever on past reputation. Good luck. 1.5 stars for this visit average out to 2 stars for both trips. read more

We ate at Gecko Grill and the service was terrible. I had to find the waitress to take our order and it took forever to get the food. Also, the servers don't wear masks or gloves. I noticed an employee clean the bathroom without gloves. The food is alright but not good enough to risk getting COVID. read more

I'm normally not one to write a review but we just had an awful experience here. First, my husband's tamale came out with a long hair on it. The manager, Denise, was able to replace the meal with another item for a charge. Then, the bill came out that included a charge for enchilada sauce ($2.99) that came with tamale meal that my husband returned due to the hair in it. Denise refused to take the charge ($2.99) off the bill and said she would bring over a menu to see that it is sold separately from the tamale. That wasn't the problem - the problem was that it was not needed for the replacement meal and should have been removed from the bill. In fact, normal customer service when there is a hair in the food is to make it right with the bill. Unfortunately, Denise was extremely rude and unwilling to make anything right. It is sad because we would come here monthly but sadly no more. Please beware. read more
