I'll be short and quick. This is our second time here the first time food was amazing customer service was ok we were please that we decided to go back with the thought of getting delicious meals, but nop. I order nachos I had the craving for them and my wife order a veggie burrito . I'm sorry to say but the nachos were super horrible greasy blunt nothing there , circle k has better nachos for half the price they were gross my wife veggie burrito was also bad just no flavor nothing to be amaze . Very disappointing. Our waiter said that food comes out differently sometimes because depends on the cook who's making the food . No consistency at all in meals. Our waiter could care less. We eat almost nothing of our food just plane gross !! I'm going to have think twice about giving them my business . That's what happens when you try to support local businesses. read more

The chips and dips were good but towards the end something tasted a little bit burnt. The green salsa just wasnt good to us. The margaritas were way too sweet and so hard to finish. The spinach enchilada was actually pretty good but the rice was pretty dry. The staff was super friendly. read more

I have begun to notice a big trend in this area to put gluten in beans and enchilada sauce. I've been searching for a restaurant that doesn't. Gecko grill not only did have these gluten free items but they were excellent. I loved their beans and the chips and salsa. The green salsa was amazing. Their Covid Protocols were excellent and it was well worth the hour wait. read more

We have come to the Gilbert location a couple times and both times were good. The second time we went we had a weeknight reservation for a party of 10. They had everything set up and ready when we got there. The menu has a lot of great options and there is a gluten free menu as well. The servers were attentive and the food was great. Everything was very timely as well. There was a mistake made on one of our orders but they were very gracious and fixed it when asked. I highly recommend their bean and cheese chimichanga appetizer. Their guacamole is great too. We will definitely be back to explore their menu even more. read more

The south Scottsdale location is excellent! Went there for the first time last night. I had the pollo fundido and it was all white meat chicken and delicious! Their chips and salsas (red and green) were also fresh and tasty. I'm glad south Scottsdale has a new place to get great Mexican food. The owners were super nice too. Support this business, you'll be glad you went. read more

I'm having a tough time rating these guys. The service wasn't good at all. They bring out chips, salsa and bean dip. For 4 people they bring out small salsa and bean dip containers which you can barely fit some of the chip in. When we asked for additional bean dip he said because we had 4 people we are only allowed one and that it would cost $1 for another. My wife had the salmon enchiladas which she loved! I had the Burro Grande shredded beef burrito. The presentation was very bland. Inside the burrito it was stuffed with guacamole and not much else. There was a very small amount of actual shredded beef. The other 2 people we went with loved their food. So while I wasn't impressed with my food or the service the other 3 were. So I gave them 4 stars. If it had just been me...probably a 3! read more

We frequently eat here. Visited most recently on 11/11/21 for lunch. The food is always good, but the service today was below average. Our biggest gripe is that the music - 45 minutes of gangster rap "singing" about stripping and sex - was loud and off-putting...as if no manager was around to mind the store. We like the place and will be back, but maybe not so soon. If there are improvements, we'll update our rating/post. read more

Just made an order tonight 11/10/23 at 5:57pm. I put an order in for 2 orders of mini chimis, she repeated it back to me and confirmed my order was correct. Once my husband brought it home it was missing one of the orders and the order we did receive wasn't even correct (ordered all chicken and came with half beef.) I called and spoke with the afternoon/evening manager who REFUSED to even give me her first name. She said I would have to do a new order and pay for it since THEY didn't put it in correctly. And that she probably didn't hear me because they have bad phone service, which in no way is that our fault. In my opinion, that was just an excuse. She wouldn't apologize or take any kind of responsibility for their mistake. She said they can't just be giving out "free food!" In no way were we asking for free food but some type of discount would have been sufficient to justify THEIR mistake. This has happened multiple times in the past & we have continued going there. We have been regular patrons since 2015. But this is completely unacceptable to treat customers this way. We will no longer be going there & will be telling everyone our horrible experience. This manager should be ashamed of herself and needs to be demoted for treating people in this manner. read more

Although the food quality has improved over the years, the service continuously gets worse. We went again last night, and the service remains the same. No friendly smiles and the food takes such a long time. There have been times when other tables have been delivered their food before us--and there was a "mess up in the kitchen"--we found this out AFTER we asked our waitress where the food was. Last night, we had to ask another server for our server because he was nowhere to be seen, didn't come check on us. The food is pretty tasty, but after another bad visit last night, I'm not sure I will be returning. My advice: hire servers who actually care about customer service and not texting on their phones in the back. read more

Ordered take out, $160 worth. Food is always good but they only give you one (1) red salsa 2oz and one (1) green salsa 2oz. SMH for something as cheap as salsa, each entree should come with at least one. So I purchased some. Then when I got to my in-laws I was missing their food! Now if they were busy I would get it, but they weren't busy. Husband picked it up, the loved it but what and inconvenience especially when I asked if order was reviewed and complete. From now on I will open and check for myself. read more

This was my 2nd time coming here for dinner. The first time was fantastic but it was on an early afternoon. We came here for dinner Friday. We asked for the patio and were seated within 10 minutes. My main reason for this review was for the awful service. We literally asked the waitress and other servers at least 5 times for a high chair. Finally, our friend went in and just grabbed one about 30 minutes into us sitting. Next, we ordered cokes. They tasted beyond disgusting and when we asked our waitress for different drinks she said "yeah the carbonation part wasn't working". So she knowingly served us drinks that tasted like dirty water? Pretty shocked by this... Lastly, when it came time to pay and tip, she literally hovered over my husband which led him to having to tip. We weren't planning on it because the service was pretty awful for a Friday night. The food was decent, not amazing but not bad. Anyways, it's hit or miss here. Not sure if we'll try it again. read more

Always good food and good service. I especially enjoy the steak street tacos the most. The green salsa and chips are addicting!

Gecko grill has been a staple for our family. It's almost kept us together. Especially the location on Gilbert and Guadalupe before they moved. All these years later we are still coming. The last hour sitting here together as a family we have been having to constantly send our food back, get more silverware, and everyone's food came out 25 minutes apart. The food wasn't bad, after they corrected it. The waitress and other help that came seemed wildly apathetic to helping us. And it made you almost felt guilty for ordering or asking for more soda. Our waitress was shy, but was willing to help us. I blame the overall vibe of the restaurant. MAybe the staff was yelled at earlier or something crushed every employees dreams and that left them feeling lethargic and down. Anyway, food was still good but never experienced careless service like this. read more

Do not do it! Food poisoning from delivered meal! Reached out to this resturant thru social media text, and was told 'she' would call me shortly. This message was repeated the next day. The call only came after 3 days - as my husband lay in a hospital bed, having had a heart attack after suffering over 50 hours of explosive diarrhea, nausea and vomiting! My husband is a hale and hearty man- I can not imagine what this would have done to someone who was not as strong. read more

Ordered 2 fiesta chicken salads. Got home with no dressing or any mango salsa. There was no salsa for the chips. Called and spoke with the manager and she said she wouldn't give me a credit since I threatened a bad yelp review. She hung up on me. Service was terrible- we got forgot about sitting on the patio- waited wayyyy too long for our waitress to bring chips and drinks, sat at our table in the rain waiting to be moved in to the inner dining room. The food was overpriced and mediocre. Had the shrimp and mango quesadilla- $14.99 with no beans or rice. Chips tasted greasy and stale. Not happy about this visit. One and done. read more

Gecko Grill - Mexican Near Me - Gilbert, Arizona

The food is really bad for the price but what's worse is the service. So many other options around, find another restaurant.

So, it's been about 32 hours since I left Gecko Grill and I can't stop thinking about Gecko Grill. Let me start off by saying that I'm new to Mexican food and by no means am I an expert. However, I have experienced food so unsatisfactory that I've left the restaurant in tears (I also may be a bit dramatic at times but thats beside the point). Anyway, to begin, the staff there were fantastic. The girl welcomed us in with a smile on her face and an eagerness to serve. She even let me choose where I wanted to sit, made me feel like an absolute queen. In this case, I guess you could say I was la reina de los geckos. I chose one of those hybrid booth tables with chairs on one side. The chairs almost lost Gecko Grill a star since they were probably bought at the Flinstones' local Ikea. Hard as a rock. The booth side was fairly comfortable, which made up for the chairs. Being the bougie princess I am, I ordered a water with lemon. Surprise, surpise, they brought out the typical chips and salsa with my drink. I was nervous about the chips being stale but to my surprise, they were warm and crunchy. There were the red and green salas. The red one, in my opinion was the better of the two. Just enough kick to enjoy without feeling the need to drown yourself in a cool beverage (I'm not too big on spices lately, so it might not be enough kick for others). Moving on to the main course, which didn't take long to get to me, I ordered the Grande Seafood. Presentation=Flawless. As you can see in the picture, they added a cute little Mexican flag which is what earned themselves their fifth star in my review. The Taste=Well, I tell you wHat, my soul left my body. When I say my soul left my body, I mean, in my moment of bliss, she went down to a small, seaside Mexican village and sat down in my long, lost abuelita's cocina. With the warm, salty sea breeze blowing into the room and filling my nostrils with the perfect balance of sweet, savory crab and tortillas, I felt at home. Number one, I'm not Mexican. Number two, I've never been to Mexico. This dish was an ablsoute experience. 10/10 would recommend. There is a nice patio area with a bar that I'll be trying next time. This girl was complaining about her margarita being too small but at this point, Gecko Grill can serve me kool-aid and I'd still rate it 5 stars after my lunch yesterday. read more

We usually enjoy eating at the Gecko Grill so I don't enjoy writing this review. But, after last night, we will definitely not be going back for a while. We noticed the restaurant had new menus and as we always joke, new menus bring new prices. While I don't mind a slight increase in price, last night we noticed that the prices increased by almost $2.00 per item! That seems to be a little excessive. The quality was also not up to their usual standards as well, so I hope that this increase in price is not going hand in hand with a lower quality and standard of food. One in our party also ordered veggies to be put in their burrito and they were charged $4.00 extra... read more

One of the Best Pancakes and Sausages ever. Forget waiting in line at those popular breakfast spots. This hidden gem has no wait and the food is way better than most popular places. Our family loves breakfast, so much so that we have Breakfast Dinners at least once a week. So we KNOW breakfast. Last Saturday, we were looking for breakfast -- every tasty breakfast spot was packed. So we thought we'd try a Mexican place. We never thought we'd find one of the best breakfasts ever in a mexican restaurant! Can you believe this??? My kid orders pancakes, sausage, and eggs. The pancakes are fluffy with crispy edges -- perfection. The sausages are not greasy and so delicious. The grownups get traditional mexican breakfasts, and it's beyond amazing. I cannot believe we never tried Gecko Grill for breakfast. You will not be disappointed. Go to GG for breakfast. Don't waste even 1 second in line at those other spots. read more

First off the place has a home style vibe. Outside has a little patio with heaters for when it's cold. The prices are super cheap and worth it. Bean dip is awesome with the chips. Gecko grill never disappoints. The food is consistent and always so so delicious, every dish we've tried has exceeded our expectations. Today we decided to sit outside with Ed and let me just say he really enhanced the experience to make it our best visit yet! We had been sitting here on this beautiful patio for at least 20 minutes when my boyfriend, who has a booming radio DJ voice, yelled across other diners to someone else's waitperson like a Wall Street trader doing a long shot purchase "EXCUSE ME, WE ARE READY TO ORDER!" The salsa could use some heat and waaaaay less salt. They didn't bring little plates for the chips and salsa and they have those wrought iron mesh tables that you can see through, so of course the salsa is falling through the table onto our legs! All they had were these tiny cheap napkins! We overheard the family next to us as they were eating their shrimp cocktails say "we don't have time to wait for our meals could you please cancel our order?" They had obviously been waiting to place their order as long or longer than we had. Our order finally came and while the food was good it was extremely bland. I asked if they had a spicier hot sauce or salsa and she said yes and brought me something equally as bland as the first two. So if you're looking for a nice atmosphere bland food and the worst service ever this is the place for you! read more

My favorite item is the shrimp ceviche tostada! Tons of shrimp and priced well if I remember correctly. I think I'm going to try the seafood chimi one of these times. It looks great! read more

First visit to Gecko Grill was quite pleasing to the tummy. I saw this place en route to another highly Yelp rated business (Two Wheel Jones). My wife had the Chicken Sopes combination platter with rice and refried beans. She enjoyed the flavors of the Sopes and the refried beans. I had the Taco and Burrito combination with Carne Asada. The thing that struck me was that the Carne Asada was cut quite small but I could taste the flavors. The other thing is how attentive the staff is. There was one waitress (Heidi) who went to each customer to ensure they were satisfied. For us, that spoke volumes. Our server, Halee, was also attentive and professional. No doubt that we will return. read more

My daughter and I were heading to another place for lunch when I spotted this little gem in a mostly empty strip mall. The name sounded familiar, so we decided to stop here instead. There were a few other patrons waiting for tables inside so we opted to sit on the patio where we could be seated right away. The whole restaurant is really clean and the patio is no exception (although once a large party with multiple kids who were sitting on the patio left, it took them awhile to clean up). Once we were seated I quickly looked up what other yelpers had to say and it looks like this location is pretty new. I ordered a simple bean and cheese burrito, enchilada style and and iced tea for myself, and my daughter got the kids chicken strips with fries and a chocolate milk. The food came out pretty quickly. As we were waiting, the server who was bringing out the food came to our table a couple times to ask if other orders were ours. I also noticed that a couple of the servers were unsure of who another table belonged to so it seems like there might not be a system for the patio yet. This didn't bother me, but the ladies at the table next to us were annoyed because they were in a rush. My burrito was alright, great tortilla, filling was hot and stayed warm, but the enchilada sauce was a little too thin for my liking. The chicken strips were warm but not steaming lava hot like they always seem to be everywhere else (this is a good thing because they were for a starving five year old). My daughter said the chocolate milk wasn't chocolatey and asked for water instead. My iced tea was okay but tasted a little dirty. The price was okay...our bill came to just over $14. I don't have much of an incentive to come back (Dos Gringos is across the street and kids eat free all the time there), but the place is cute and since they are new, I would give them another shot. read more

Great food and atmosphere. First time eating here and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was friendly.

I was recommended to the Gecko Grill from a friend who lives near there when I told her I wanted to try a new Mexican place. I was a little disappointed in it! We got sat fairly quickly which was nice considering it was about 6:30 on a Friday. After we got sat though it was a while before anyone came over. Someone who wasn't our waitress finally came over and took our drink order after about 10 minutes. Drinks were good, but took about 10 more minutes to actually get the drinks. Our waitress when she finally came over seemed to have an attitude or like she was annoyed about something. I ordered a burrito that was supposed to have guacamole in it but I opened it once I started eating it and saw there was barely any in it. I was pretty disappointed since I love guac, and the burrito overall was very dry. My fiancé was brought the wrong dish although it was similar to what he got, so he started eating it without noticing. After a couple of minutes the waitress came back over and said she gave him the wrong dish, he said it was fine and he's already eaten a couple of bites and enjoyed it so he was fine keeping it. She insisted that they remake it and took his plate so he didn't have anything for a while while the rest of us were eating. I thought it was really strange that she didn't just let him keep it since he said he enjoyed it and was fine with it? I'm giving it two stars because the food wasn't awful, I tried my fiancé's new plate of food and his was pretty good, haha. The atmosphere was lovely and I enjoyed the patio and the live performer they had while we were there. But overall disappointing, probably won't be back. read more

Great family Mexican food place. The service was excellent and food was real good. A great relaxed atmosphere

One of my favorite Mexican food places here in Gilbert. I was introduced to this place a few years back after they had reopened by a close friend of mine, and I've been coming here ever since! There staff isn't always on point but for the decently priced menu items and the monthly coupons they actually send out, it's a great place to eat. I love there bean dip and salsa they give you and their chips are delicious as well! One thing I always get here is their seafood burrito, oh my it's delicious! I highly recommend it, and if you don't finish it, it's tasty the next day too!
