This company is complete garbage. Half the time the channels do not come in. On half the channels through out the day they have this error that pops up "ONE MOMENT PLEASE This channel should be available shortly" A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!! I have switched to satellite and have so much better customer service. I call GCI to get help with this "issue" and everytime I call its "Oh we are updating that channel..." "We are updating the service right now. It will only be a moment." DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! They get one star only because I HAVE to rate them...They are honestly a 0 star rating from me. read more

I've had the basic internet for three years in Soldotna and learned to live with the fact that I can't download more than four movies a month without going over my limit and paying a ransom. For 6 months the internet connection's been breaking 6, 8, 10 x's a day; today, 6 times. I feel totally ripped off unplugging and plugging the modem in for 30 minutes a day; I pay $875/year for what? read more

NO STARS, Worst Customer service ever. I switched to a new account and before switched I asked the service agent if I i will have to pay for cancellation of my old account, she said NO. And now they are trying to charge me $400.00 after I signed up for a new account. I have been calling the customer service daily and asking to give me a proper answer, each individual keeps saying I will address this issue with their supervisor and call you back in couple days and nobody calls me back or nothing. I then call them back and the same cycle repeats. Its more than a month past and I am still waiting to hear back from them. People out there who are reading this review please Choose AT&T they are better. Thanks read more

I've only had issues with one other internet service provider, in a specific location. My internet has dropped repeatedly, nightly. I am getting the run around from the technicians. I've spent hours on the phone and hours for appointments. My issues are still not resolved. This is by far the worst service I have ever had (both with connection/product and customer service). read more

I've had their garbage internet for years. I've told their tech that every time it rains or snows our internet runs like crap. He said it was something inside the house. I've been a tech for 22 years. He questioned my technical expertise. I think after 1 hour of arguing with him I was done and very frustrated. So I hung up. read more

There are so many wrong things about GCI, the first being that they essentially have a monopoly on the market (at least for internet) here in Alaska. That's probably something to deal with outside a review like this. But that's definitely not the end. GCI's employees lied to me about getting my $150 deposit back, their fee system is so confusing you can't figure out what you are paying for and what you can be refunded, and their rebating system is a reflection of their nasty tactics to charge unwarranted fees, i.e., they credit some amounts back to your GCI account, but then you have to watch for that and call in separately to have the amount credited back to you. Why can they not just credit back directly to you and not the account? They have all your payment and address info? Anyway, fu**ed up service, but they are the only providers around so sorry Alaskans (most of whom are lovely people btw), seems like you're just fu**ed until you can get other providers in the market. I'm going back to the lower 48. read more

I called GCI to have another cable jack installed into my home . when the tech got there he told me he would not be able to perform the jack due to the weather being so cold. I said thats ok so he ran a cable along my floor. I was happy then the tech said we have a promition going on 30 days FREE internet . and if i did not want it after 30 days to cancel it before the 30th day. I said great... A month later surprise surprise ita not free no more . gci had no clue who even came out to my place to perform the service . nothing was in the notes . i called and was on the phone for 1 hour. Customer service is so rude i m shocked. I will not be with gci much longer . they dont care about customers. I literally told them i want this credited all of it and the rep told me who are you to tell me what to do. I was like give me your manager after 1.5 hours they got a reality check and i won. Thanks gci but with your rude ass comments and unprofessionalism your losing me as a customer. Smh poor customer service . cant treat customers that way wake up... I rate them as a 0 read more

I am a lifeline phone service user. I needed a replacment phone, and accourding to my contract, GCI is supposed to give me new phone every 12 months if I need one. when I went in the LIED to me and denied me a phone saying "It was 18 months" I went with out a phone for months until I went in agian and was told it was 12 months. I asked to speak with a manager. and was told that i was not aloud to. then the door man told me to leave and started to PUSH me out of the store. NO NO NO! u do not touch me. I have been since tresspassed from the store. FUK U GCI. you lied to me steal months of service then tresspass me from your store? SHAME ON YOU. This year my phone service was cut off on MARCH 3. I recieved a cut off notice on MAY3 saying my phone service was cut off on the 27th of APRIL. WHY AM I GETTING BILLED FOR A MONTH OF SERVICE AFTER THEY CUT IT OFF? So i called the billing department, and was told my phone service was not cut off until April. As IF I dont know when my phone stopped. I know exactly when it stopped. AGAIN they LIE.. I wish GCI was not the only lifeline service provider. they have worst customer service than any of the waitresses in Fairbanks. And i refuse to eat out in Fairbanks, because of the shitty watresses and service. however GCI has abosolutly no clue and no appologies. FUK U GCI I hope ever one of you dies gasping for air from the corona virus. i hope you all spread it to your families and you have to watch them die too. read more

Worst Company by in all the US. Yes they have a monopoly on well...technology for the Alaskan. They brought Data and phone and cable to the great state and they charge an arm and a leg. The have horrible customer service and they're very slow understanding an issue. Our first experience was setting up and just getting a few 'gigs' for our home. PROBLEM...you will burn through sooooo much data, even just using Netflix, or your phones and tablets and smart tv. BUT wait they have BUCKETS of data to offer you, lol, yes...buckets you can purchase MORE data on! Woo! As for current status...we were double charged on our bill so we're patiently waiting this week to find out about the credit back to our account...one was for 55.00 and the other close to $300...what? Oh they processed the $55, on Thursday, but as today (Tuesday) they JUST processed the other one, what? This was done at the same time, called in on the same day, and they just now processed the larger credit? Sound fishy and even like a scam, but we're calling our bank tomorrow to MAKE SURE it's been received. If not, we will go to the offices of GCI and raise hell. Just because they're the 'only' provider, other than the smaller fractions here, doesn't mean they should be sneaky or not truthful about what is happening. If you're thinking of coming here, just go without GCI...ANYONE else!! There might be one out of 20 people there that have any type of customer service skills. Good Luck. read more

have good customer service but there speed is a lie supposed to get up to 100mbs i realize that doesnt mean its a 100 m but it should be close not 26 mbs. read more

One of the only companies to cap internet usage at 50gb, at which point internet is "throttled down" to 1 Mbps. When I asked about the purpose behind the data caps, they assured me it was about maintenance costs. ACS provides truly unlimited internet while somehow operating in the same state. Prepare to be nickel and dimed with GCI. read more

Don't. Just don't. Customer service is an absolute nightmare. The short version of my story is that when my husband deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 a couple months before his roomates did, his roomates agreed to pay the last couple months' bills. They didn't. Unbeknownst to my husband. He had gone into the store to turn off his services and told them he was deploying. Then THREE years later we find out about this bill (which has now blimped to over $600). Get this: we didn't find out via GCI or the collection agency they sold our bill to...we found out from the LOAN OFFICER who was trying to get us pre-approved for a mortgage!!!! He was like "uhhh did you know you have a $600 bill from a cable company in alaska??" They couldn't be bothered to call...text...email? IT'S 2014! AND they knew he was in afghanistan....they even have written documentation of it. So basically, they have absolutely ruined his credit. Trying to talk to them on the phone is like pulling teeth. They refuse to help. Give you the run around. Insult you. Tell you that you shouldn't talk back to them because they're a "senior citizen". Literally, that happened. They're smug, rude, and absolutely dead set on screwing each and every one of their customers. Because they don't care about you...period. They're just a bunch of senior citizens who are apparently too lazy to use the phone to tell someone they owe a massive fine. Seriously, they were just gonna continue to let it grow...we never would have heard from them. They were loving the fact that we weren't paying the bill (that we didn't even know existed!) because thats more money in their pockets in the long run!! Don't contract with them. Find a company that values their customers or you will pay for it dearly. read more

i know there are not a lot or ANY choices for folks so just a heads up - everyone in customer service that i dealt with was reading the manual trying to figure out how to help me. i had a contract with GCI over the summer, wanted to keep my AT&T number, and that was a huge mistake. it took two weeks and many person-hours to have my number "ported over" from GCI to ATT. i terminated my service with GCI and they kept billing me until december. i am owed a refund, and of course have not seen it. so, good luck, keep all your records, and keep calling back until you get someone who can really help you. rookie operation! read more

aug 20, 2021.............don't use this company, they could care less about you.... worst customer service.... they failed at fixing a problem that they created.... after 20+ years of service they treated us as if we were nothing after they screwed up and then acted like they couldn't fix the problem. gci mistakenly cut our service on friday and left us hanging till monday. on friday i spent hours going from dept to dept explaining that they were not supposed cut our service until after sept 1st (a date they had acknowledged to us in writing). when i called to find out why my service didn't work they tried to play dumb saying it was my fault or some one in one of their other depts fault. even after i told them i had it in writing, all the well trained parrots kept saying "oh, i apologize for that and under stand how you feel" but did nothing to correct the problem. i am disabled and told them i couldn't jump through the hoops they were trying to get me to do so they could get me to sign up for their streaming services..... again worst company,,, that could care less about there subscribers. i will be stopping all my services (tv, cell, internet, home phone.) in the near future once i make sure the best way to end it with them so they don't find ways to screw me like they have in others reviews i have read. read more

When I went to sign up for service in December, I walked into the Dimond Center location where a radio DJ was in store doing some kind of new promotion. I waited in line for 20 minutes, then worked with a CSR for another 15. After everything was complete, she told me, "your all approved but our system is down. You will have to come back later." This CSR was pretty rude throughout the entire process. My wife called to complain about the terrible service and the rude employee and minutes later, the rude employee called us back nice as could be to let me know that she could have my box waiting up front and ready to go so that I didn't have to come in and stand around for another half hour. She could have done this to begin with... 3 months later, I cancelled the service. I had no issues with the quality of the service nor price. During service, I signed up for direct bill to my credit card. When my bill was due, GCI promptly charged my card. I terminated my service in March with no issues though GCI had charged my card and owed me a $75 credit. The girl I spoke with when terminating service told me I would get a check back. They sent me a statement in April, May and June showing I have a credit. In June, I called them and first spoke to a very snarky guy named Omar who sent me to another phone tree. Once I got to a customer service rep some 10 minutes later, I verified the credit on my account and then asked them what their late fee was. She told me that if I was late I would get a $4 late fee and service would be disabled. I asked her why they haven't paid me back and let them know that they should owe me late fees such as the ones they charge their customers. She told me that I have to call and request my money back. This is pretty terrible considering the girl told me I would get a check and besides that, who has to call to request their money back after canceling service? Absolutely ridiculous...Then she asked for my card number to credit me back - I responded by saying the same number they used to promptly charge me - you already have that number. She said yes but they need the number because the system to charge and refund are different. I asked her why she couldn't get that from the system that charged my card and she got angry and said that she couldn't. So when they need to charge me, it's pretty easy to find my card number but when they owed me money, my card number was nowhere to be found... Caveat Emptor! Tldr: Cable TV Worked fine - no issues with the quality or outages Business practices are poor and borderline theft when they owe you a refund They have rude employees working for them who seem to forget that the customer buying service is the reason they get paid. read more

GCI is no bargain. I moved here from the lower 48. I had a DSL package from Century Link that provided 10-12 megabit speed and unlimited data costing about $25/mo. That included a wifi modem. My GCI plan costs 60/mo and caps at 40 gig data with similar speeds, (without wifi). One can burn through 40 gig quite quickly if streaming video or using FaceTime or Skype. Again, NO BARGAIN. 2 stars is generous. read more

Would give zero stars if possible. The absolutely worst business experience I have had in a long, long time. They are an organizational and managerial sewer- a travesty. After migrating my cable and internet, my online cable account disappeared and I no longer had access to my cable TV channels. After five months, my first communication from them was via a Bill Collector asking for payment for services that I never received. I went back and forth with the collector for a while trying to explain the situation, but eventually paid the bill to not risk damage to my credit. I detest to my core not being able to meaningfully punish CGI's egregious level of incompetence, but the Bill amount was just too small to justify the potential pain of fixing any damage to my credit. GCI's arrogance and insolence is unforgivable and reveals a fragile business foundation. They are drowning and I suspect they will be out of business in the next few years. Run like hell away from them, even if it means signing up with a bigger, non-local carrier. read more

GCI is the worst cable company I have ever dealt with. If you have to call customer support plan on waiting on the phone for close to an hour if that department is even open. Tech support is the worst I was told when all my services were not working that it would be close to a week before they could fix them. They did not offer to prorate my bill. They told me I could call back to customer support when they were open wait on hold and ask them if I could have my account prorated. Do yourself a favor go with satellite or no cable TV would be better. read more

Stay Away From GCI. They have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with, in store and over the phone. The plans are overpriced and require that you bundle with cable or pay a monthly fee. It is almost impossible to stay within the data limit, and I don't even watch Netflix or use Xbox live. Worst of all though, is that I am paying for "high speed" internet, but I had faster connections with dial-up service in the early 90's. I am switching to ACS. read more

First let me say this is the worst cell phone company I have ever fdlt with. I've never written a review but they deserve what Ina about to say. Internet sucks, cable sucks, cell phone sucks and their customer service is equivalent to that of a toddler. Their associates are not trained. No one knows what's going on. You would think by it being local, things would be better... WRONG!! If you love random fees, go with GCI. If you love confusion, go with GCI. They suck so bad, I can't even explain everything. I'm not exaggerating or mad. It's the truth!!! DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

GCI is the dictionary definition of a monopoly. They are the only provider around for the majority of the state, so they can do and charge whatever they want. I pay about $150 a month for capped internet. It's advertised at 50 Mbps, but rarely reaches that speed. They have outages regularly, but offer no compensation or explanation for them. Three times they've lost my credit card information and forced me to pay exorbitant late fees to keep my service which I had no choice to pay because I have no other option for internet. Currently, the entire state of Alaska is experiencing internet outages affecting nearly everything, with absolutely no ETA on when it should be back up. Credit card machines are down. The university is being affected. I assume the military bases are being affected as well. And there is nothing any of us can do about it because we have no other company to go to. Comcast, if you come up here, people will switch to you in a heartbeat. If you are looking for an ISP in the state of Alaska and have literally any option aside from GCI, take it. Dial-Up would be better. Not to mention the fact that they also provide the bulk of cable and phone service to the state as well. At least there are other companies you can go to for those services. read more

This is for internet only since that is the only service I have with GCI. This review wont matter much because you have no other choice for internet providers. Yes there are a few alternatives for Alaska residents but they cant compete with GCI speeds. This essential monopoly they have is the problem. You are forced to pick a data limit package if you want internet. These range from laughable small packages to 1 TB and the speeds you get increase with the data limits. I pay for the 250 Gigs per month and get 150 down and 10 up. I have lived all over the United States and no other ISP operates this way. Other companies simply charge for levels of speed. The amount of data is erronious. Its not as if its water and your ISPs costs go up because you exceed a certain amount. They also charge more than any other ISP i have ever used. The real kicker is when you run out of data (and also how they make their real money). Once you reach your data limit you can do 3 things. Use your internet at reduced speeds (more on that), purchase additional data for a fee, or change your plan to a higher but more expensive one. The part that is criminal is the first option. The reduced speeds is a lie. Its basically zero speed. You will have zero internet unless you want to shell out more money. To be specific I go from 150 MB/s down to 100 Kb/s down. Basic web pages wont even load at those speeds. What a joke. Its even more of a kick in the junk when they just announced that all plans were getting a boost in speed...but they also raised their charges. Oh and the 100 Kb/s down speed is the new and improved post data limit speed. I cant wait for Verizon or AT&T to roll out their own internet service bc I would switch. read more

Ok to start off i started using them for cable. Not too bad. I then made the mistake of using them also for internet/cable. first off i got the 100gb internet plan. in 4 months and me being on deployment and on leave for one of those months they say i went well over the 100GB of data. I have used data on my cellphone with my wife and have never came close to even 30gb. RIP OFF on data on Internet. So second after i switched to the internet and cable plan and my statement was all online i thought i was paying my bills all on time. Well i canceled with them yesterday and they informed me then that i owed them over $700 in late payments. Im like what? Well when i switched and added internet to my plan they failed to update my online statement to include the internet bill. This company is a Rip Off, They will take all of your money. They have Awful customer serves. Wouldn't even accept my wife to check on things while im deployed even with a power of attorney. Highly disappointed with them.
