Don't be fooled by ADT's glossy advertisements and signs. ADT's main goal is to lock you into a three-year contract, no matter what. They need to change their business model (which is basically, "oh, you didn't read the small print?")or their days are numbered in this modern market of home security. ADT's techs (although competent and nice enough) don't tell you, if you sign anything it starts your contract all over from that new date for another three years. Duplicity is the name of the game, bc it's the only way they can keep their doors open. When I moved, about a year of "service", they started my contract over for another three years! I didn't know this until I called to end my service, at the original three year anniversary date. My security panel continually went into error mode. This hardware malfunctions constantly. Their call center is archaic, slow and completely out-of-step with the needs of modern customers. If your alarm is going off, you cannot make a direct call to the fancy call center you see in the TV ads. ADT has one phone number and you have to go through a long automated system and press buttons, and then wait for a "representative", if you change your phone number this time is extended. When I asked ADT why they don't have a direct number for active alarms, they said to call 9-1-1! My understanding, is that ADT is supposed to call 9-1-1 in the event of an active alarm. I finally gave up on calling them to come out to fix the hardware. My system was in working condition for about five months of what turned out to be a 42 month contract of $53 dollars a month, plus charges for upgraded high speed internet, and I didn't even have cameras. Additional charges they never mention--your local police department can also charge you for responding to any of the alarm calls. Finally I had enough; I paid over 250 dollars to end my contract early. Got myself two fierce sounding barker shelter dogs and a couple of home security cameras. I have posted one star, only bc you must, in order to post a review. read more
