Yukon TV is crap. The resolution is very low and it's always caching. They thought this was the future of TV? VERY disappointing.

Got a big F-U in the mail from GCI. They are increasing our business internet rate from $95-$145/mo. More than a 50% price increase while providing zero increase in value to us as end users. I used to have a neutral opinion of GCI. Quite negative now... read more

Cable service is moving to Yukon TV. Those over 65 who may or may not be able to navigate through the elaborate 6+ step process to make this happen will be without cable TV. This process requires an in person visit to a GCI store, setting up an account online, a google account and an in person appointment in your home. So many people don't have the opportunity to go through this process and will be without TV. This is an arduous, poorly planned transition. A plan should have been established to help older Alaskans who can't leave their homes and who are not familiar with conducting business via online websites or apps. We will look for an alternative to GCI and move web and cable services at our earliest opportunity. read more

Nice employees, horrible customer service. I wanted to pay my bill online but needed my account # to set up online payment. It was a new account and i didn't know my account #, so i called GCI to get it and set up my online account. After being on hold for 45 minutes I hung up and called back. After another 45 minutes of waiting I gave up. I tried again the next day and after explaining what happened before and requesting NOT to be put on hold, I was put on hold again. This time I gave up after ten minutes. I cannot drive atm and can only pay online or by phone but GCI makes this impossible. They disconnected my service for nonpayment. If you have ANY OTHER CHOICE for phone, cable or internet, choose it. GCI is awful and this review site makes me give them at least one star, but they don't deserve it. read more

GCI is an Alaskan embarrassment. In the lower 48s, GCI would have to remove the "C" from their name as they would not qualify to be called a communication company. The reason GCI is number 1 in Alaska... Alaskans have no other choice. GCI bringing Alaskans yesterday technology... tomorrow. 1gig Red Zone? They only guarantee 650mbps, BUT they charge for the entire gig. My Red Zone gives me 81mbps to 300mbps on average... I have been asking for help for over a year, still faithfully paying my bill while they faithfully fail to provide service. The one thing I can count on with GCI... little to no service and bottom of the barrel quality of what little service I do get. read more

Dont get the homebox gateway wireless router. Useless. If you try and shut it off there is no help and the help on the gci page is out of date. So it never stops and makes you waste more money. If you cant remember your code you have to go into the store and plan on a wait. oh and bankers hours so you have to deal with all their B.S. while taking time off of work cause you cant get anything done on lunch because they are also on lunch most of the day. Gci probably has the worst internet you will ever see. Say if you're a gamer like some people in my family, it will randomly kick you offline and the highspeed is very slow, they were probably high when they made it. read more

Okay I have finally written a star review. I feel I take a lot into consideration when posting reviews and never felt a place was bad enough to rate one star, well I have had enough for me to rate them one star. It all started when I wanted to get an internet bundle at my house so I decided to go with GCI because I had AK digitel. I had to switch over from my current provider to gci for the package, which would have been okay since it was coming with a snazzy new phone and internet on the phone. I asked if my phone service would change if I cancelled the home internet... And thereis the beginning of this terrible saga that I've lived through this past year. Since switching I've been lied to, stolen from, and had insanity seep it's way into my cerebellum at the mere mention of "stupid GCI." I am going to pay to end my contract early, I cannot stand this company. My phone plan changed, I had been charged long distance minutes (in alaska), I didn't get the courtesy call or text promised if I was near my overage, and the list goes on and on... All my friends have left and gone to ATT or ACS, and I will too. I'm thinking ACS... read more

Leaving GCI my parents were gouged horribly. When they brought back the equipment, instead of refunding their deposit, gci charged them a restocking fee then continued charging a monthly fee. read more

Internet is expensive an measly. We're paying $200 a month for 1 GB internet speed and will always get download speed dips of around 500 KBPS. And it can last a very long time. read more

They shut off my auto bill pay and didn't tell me. Now my bill is over 600$ and they said sucks to suck and that was it. So I cancelled my internet decided F it Ill just try to find someone else. My billing cycle ended on the 10 and I cancelled my internet on the 11. But just take a guess who got billed for the entire month still. And when I cancelled my internet there was no like hey were sorry for the inconvenience or for doing this. They literally didn't care at all that they were losing a customer. Hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with read more

Lets face it, the internet is changing all the time. Streaming services like Netflix have brought the movies right into our homes and music streaming is a great alternative to buying expensive CDs. It sounds great. These are exactly the services I've been waiting for. The problem is that internet service providers like GCI know this and see it as a profit point. I don't begrudge anyone their share of profit but this company just goes too far. The GCI website likes to talk about the "average" user and how they offer tiered packages that will meet the needs of any type of user from those who just use it to check their email to high bandwidth sucking gamers. The problem is that their idea of an average customer is ridiculously low and skewed towards sapping more money out of the pockets of "real" customers. Looking at their biggest, fastest internet package, you can see that their Fair Use Policy sets the usage cap at 100Gb. Looks impressive until you realize how quickly streaming media will burn through that. Sure, you can spend your free time looking up your usage stats on the website to stay under the limit but what bothers me is that I have to at all. I just want to watch a movie or two after work and listen to music as I go through my day. Instead, I have to use the GCI internet toll booth and limit my usage or pay overpriced overage charges. GCI does not provide adequate internet caps. I'd suggest that you look up how far we are falling behind other industrial countries and give you examples of places that provide very fast internet speeds (for free) but it might put you over for the month. read more

If I could give no stars I wld... gci is by far the worst internet I've ever had.. me and my husband live on base and the only internet we can get is gci. We constantly have problems with our internet not working . Definitely not worth the 175$ we are paying a month at all. read more

So my bf and I have GCI for internet and I was trying to get my online account (MyGCI) set up for 1 week now. I've called them 3 times and everytime they said I should get an email to set it up and it never shows up. I even try sending it to myself like 10 times. Nothing. So i went to gci store (the one in the Dimond mall) to deal with it in real life. And I told the employee all the things I've tried to do. And you call I'm a bit frustrated since I have been dealing it for 1 week now. So I say "I just don't wanna leave here without -" and this guy cuts me off saying "I'm not trying to push you out the door" I couldn't believe that on top of dealing with MyGCI for a week, this guy cuts me in the middle of my sentence. I simply wanted to tell him that "I don't wanna leave here without MyGCI set up and needing to come back again". It was very rude and my bf was with me and witnessed everything and he also thought it was rude of him to do that. After 6 emails sent to me (since the first 5 didn't work), it finally worked. Imagine, I couldn't get 1 email sent to me for 1 week, and I had to go in a gci store to have 6 sent to me for it to finally work. This is the first time I have had gci in a long time and I'm not impressed and remember why I left gci in the first place. read more

Criminal bandwidth caps. What good is a 100Mbps connection in 2020 if you can barely even use it before you're throttled? The default plan only has 150GB of data. Call of Duty player? You can't even download the entire game before being throttled. The Last of Us II is coming out this month with a 100GB+ install size. Ghost of Tsushima next month. Good luck juggling cost versus usage with those. If you're a gamer and like to buy your games digitally, or if you own a 4K HDR panel, don't even bother. read more

It is absolute BS that GCI gave my information to people in the Philippines and Mexico for tech support, I for one never gave them permission nor never seen anything that they were going to do this. I can't call out to certain numbers here in Fairbanks. When I call tech support I could barely hear the people speaking because of the clarity of the call was crap on top of the language barrier. There's the issue with them getting information from me, name, password, phone number, address. Soon after I hung up with them I started getting scam calls, literally within seconds of hanging up with them I got a call with somebody trying to scam me from India. Our information is being breached and being whored out to other countries because GCI is just a trash company and does not care about customers security. read more

I returned my cable box in perfect condition, in person, since I had heard other folks complain about turning them in to an associate on a call, the associate not turning it in, the customer getting a bill for the missing cable box. I was not taking that chance! So I took it down myself to pay unpaid balance and turn box in. The guy told me I was paid and that the charge for the box was now zero, sibce I'd returned it. I asked to close my account. He said they keep you in the system for future service. I dumbly said " ok" Flash forward 6 months later. I have not had cable as again I returned the box months ago, after moving from apt. I call to reinstate my cable. I was informed I have $ 211. Worth of charges on my account. I had been sent to collections. They cannot reinstate my service until this is paid. I asked WHAT the charges are for. The associate said he could not tell me, since it had been sent to collections. After returning my cable box, I had NO other service with GCI. They obviously had my cable box, so I was not using it. Just random mysterious $211. In charges. They can't tell me what for. Yukon tv sucks, always down.cant even watch netflix most of the time with 36 GIG apple tv

Beware, They charge you for a full month of cable even if you cancel only a few days into the new month. I canceled 5 days into my billing cycle and still had to pay $181 for the whole month. Total bs. They say they don''t prorate disconnects. Thats outright fraud and theft. I'm paying for 25 days of service that I didn't receive. When I turned in my cable boxes no one told us we'd have to pay for the whole month. I would have kept the boxes and watched my cable for the days I was going to be charged for. read more

They are absolutely HORRIBLE and they know that there isn't much (in Alaska) that ANYONE can do about it. I pay, for mediocre internet (which has an unrealistically stupid data cap), what I've paid for internet, cable, and home phone service combined at other places. If you are choosing GCI, I would imagine it's because NO ONE else has access to the fiber line thus can't provide you services. Oh well, join the crowd and complain complain complain......or go without. Hope this helps. read more

Slow, pixelated, and intermittently just non-existent. One day soon, you will not be the only mainstream internet service provider in Alaska. So you had better be thinking and planning for how you're going to correct all of the astounding gaps in service and reliability that GCI has, despite its monumental cost. This has by far been the most disappointing internet service I've ever had to endure, and I used to have Comcast! I also used to live in Montana. The consistently worse-ranked state for ISP connectivity. Alaska is pulling hard for that last-ranked spot, thanks to GCI's commitment to mediocrity. Furthermore, I have a simple business suggestion: When your customer runs out of data, it might be a good idea for you to fix your continually "down for maintenance" website, so that you can actually profit off of your customers' desires to increase their already ludicrously expensive plans. It's actually sadly ironic, the number of times GCI, an internet services provider, has had website issues. So often, one would think it was intentionally obtuse to its customer's needs or complaints. I am very much looking forward to the day where capitalism shoves GCI aside, and gives them a taste of their own medicine. Until then, my one goal while a resident in this stare will be to use my democratic power to disrupt the telecommunications platform as GCI knows it. Municipal internet, regulations, endorsement of alternative providers, no matter how small, and the best of all, constant word of mouth about how terrible a provider GCI is. Your own customers will be your downfall, because they're all in on it. You're showing every month your own short comings. And we will happily walk away and watch you implode. Lacie B. read more

Takes part in a shameful practice of charging for services not rendered.

I was talked into making the switch to TiVo from cable because it was cheaper and better quality. I was assured that I would have all the same programing that I had with my cable. Boy was I wrong. I have made multiple calls to customer service and tech support and have gotten no where. The service was great for the first 2 weeks during the trial period. After that I started to loose channels one by one. I went in to my local store and they reset my box and all was well for 24 hours. Then again I lost channels. Last time I called they told me that I never had that programing in the past and I was getting it for free. I find it hard to believe that for 5 years and 3 cable box upgrades that I was getting free programing. I am extremely upset with the fact that I was lied to and tricked into thinking that TiVo was the way to go. At this time I would like the programing that I am missing to be added back in or I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well as doing everything in my power to ensure that you never receive another customer referral from my friends, co-workers, family or myself! read more

Its like talking to your 10 year old. The customer service should be made into a movie it's so dramatically comical. Argumentative, ignorant, confused and defensive they are determined to get you so frustrated you just hang up, I'm convinced that's their entire methodology. I have never seen prices this high anywhere before and I'm calling their worthless customer service twice a month because of connection issues. Prepare to be fully disrespected as a person if you decide to become an unfortunate GCI customer. GCI switched our cable system to Yukon TV. It is the worst!! You sign up, and they send you home to install your own equipment. Once you figure out the ridiculous remote you can begin watching some shows. We liked TIVO, cuz you could record shows and watch them when you wanted to. Yukon lets you record some shows but not others. Once recorded, when you try to play them, you get various error messages, not allowing you to watch the shows. When you call technical support, the technicians admit they don't use Yukon TV, And can't "fix the bugs". Our monthly GCI bill is over $400, for two phones, Wi-Fi, and TV, With no premium channels. GCI is basically a monopoly in Alaska, but we deserve better. read more

First off i am not an old person with little to no tech skills.. i am 25 and well versed in the ways of the internet.. I am completely astonished that a company with one star can even exist. This is by far the worst customer experience I've ever had with any company at all internet or not. I am currently paying for the one gig service and have never ever seen anything over 600 mps. I have rdone internet speed tests over a wired connection on 5 different modern devices using one gig cable and have never seen 700 mps when the techs come to check it out because it just caps at 20 mps the techs diagnostic tool always shows 800 to 900 mps. I'm pretty sure they are actually scamming people. These people actually came over and teed off of the cable that runs to my house and ran it to another house over the ground and just tossed it over my fence. I actually thought someone was stealing internet. They even tried to tell me that was standard operating procedure. They have swapped modems twice and I have never had decent internet. The wifi is absolute trash and is essentially non usable. The wired connections are spotty at best and at worst non existent. If i had the resources I would drag this entire company to hell. I can only assume upper management has passed down a culture of false information and the art of misleading customers as well as feign ignorance when questioned on their actions as every employee I have had the complete displeasure of interacting with has given me false or incomplete answers while providing almost no solutions to any of the mounting and untenable problems that plague this company from the people that work there to the very product they sell. I can only hope that there will be some intervention that forces this company to fully compensate the people they have misled as well close their doors for good. read more

They are why monopolies suck. They charge too much. They don't give a bleep about customers. They are utterly fine with extracting money from unhappy customers. Their software sucks (on purpose). There's no scheduling changes of service, which works out for maximum monetary extraction. Generally they charge too much. If you change your internet service, they will change your "bucket" size even if it's on the last day of your billing cycle. Doesn't matter that you paid for that bucket already with a different plan and fully paid for that plan for the whole month. Feels like fraud to me! My experience is that they are just totally cool with customers hating them. That's why lower 48 competitors will eventually drive them out of business. (looking forward to 5G) By the time they change, it will be too late. That puts a smile on my face. As an ISP you'd think they'd care about their rep. But no, that's the benefit of having a monopoly with enforced turf. read more

A GCI employee came to our street this morning to check connections? and just went to the backyard. He wanted to know if the dogs were in. They were. When I came downstairs the first thing I did was look out the front door to check that the gate was closed. It appeared to be and I assumed everything was okay. A few hours later I let the dogs out again. All the sudden I realized my 12 year old Cocker Spaniel wasn't asking to be let in right away like she always does. I went out back and saw no dogs. We have 5. A breeze was blowing so I went to check the front and saw the gate was open. Luckily the 2 females were in the driveway. The boys were found behind our house on a different street. So all the dogs were found but it is inexcusable for a service technician to leave a gate unlatched. read more
