did very little research on Gaze before my first appointment with them today, so I was absolutely bowled over by how incredibly welcoming Dr. Ah-Kiné's practice is from the moment I stepped inside to the moment I left. The interior of the practice itself is decorated with obvious delight and joy, with a clear emphasis on being a safe space for clients. Dr. Ah-Kiné fosters a sense of relaxed competence and straightforward communication that is all too often a rare thing in medical professionals. They explained the procedures as they performed them, gave no judgements or lectures for any information I offered (I'm getting better about sleeping in contacts, I promise), and overall gave me their full attention for the length of my appointment. Mac was similarly a warm and welcoming help in discussing options for contact pricing and glasses, and the front desk staffperson was prompt, friendly, and had truly fantastic eyeliner wings. :) Overall: Gaze is 100% my new go-to eye doctor, no question about it. Gaze is a hidden gem and Mac is a very kind professional! I was searching for a local place to get my lenses put into my frames, and for convenience was willing to spend whatever was necessary to do so, but was unexpectedly blown away by the excellent prices. Going to GAZE to get a new contact and glasses lens prescription turned out to be not just an errand but such a wonderful experience. Dr. Ah-Kine and Mac we extremely kind, helpful and a pleasure to work with. The place itself is beautiful and stepping inside was its own lovely experience with many great glasses frames to choose from. Wow wow wow! I had no idea getting an eye exam and subsequent eye glass fitting could be so magical! Dr. Ah-Kine, Mac and Alice are quite honestly the most lovely people I have met in a really long time. As soon as you walk through the door Alice greets you with a welcoming smile and a kind presence making you feel immediately at ease. The space is self has been meticulously designed and thought out down to the door stopper for the restroom. I kid you not, it feels like you're in a hip spot in downtown LA- is this really an Optometrist's office? Dr. Ah-Kine and Mac are the GOATS of Optometrist/Optician. Both bring their own gifts to what they do and make the entire experience comfortable and easy. They take the time to explain each step of the process and listen to questions, concerns, and the occasional Dad joke. The exam tools are state of the art and will make you reconsider that quick trip to Warby Parker. Trust that you're going to get the proper prescription and not need to come back because there is an issue. The frame selection is Ahhh-Mazing. There is something for everyone and you will have a hard time not walking out with at least six pairs of glasses. Mac has an eye for suggesting styles and gives honest but kind feedback on what looks best. If 100 Stars was possible GAZE would surpass the rating. Booked eye exam online, was able to complete the usual intake forms electronically, and received a call from Mac day prior to verify what might be possible with vision + health insurance. Easy and free parking, a plus. Dr. Ah-Kiné's exam was thorough and comfortable, my questions were welcomed and answered; Mac made trying on new frames fun, no need to bring your best friend; Alice is a gem. I had a great experience at Gaze Optical. I've been needing new glasses for a while, but I am very near-sighted and eyeglass shopping can be a challenge. The optometrist immediately offered some temporary contact lenses so I could see what I was looking at, helped me find some great frames, and then took pictures so I could share a few options with my family to get their recommendations. (They were all great, tough to choose one!) A week after I got my new glasses, they called me to ask how they were feeling, and I mentioned that I kept bending my neck back to look up at my computer screen. She asked me to come in to the shop, and immediately figured out that I needed a new design for the progressive lens transition - and then ordered lens with the new design, and a week later, replaced them - at no cost! The new eyeglasses look fantastic (I keep getting compliments :-) and are very comfortable for my long days of computer work. read more
