the staff is always ready to help! kind pleasant and patient ! wonderful choices of eyeglasses

Great optometrist there. Convenient location. Not all of the staff is particularly friendly, but they act competitive with other stores, including being reluctant to give you prescriptions, which is incompatible with Massachusetts law. I've never had this problem elsewhere, including getting pupillary distance or measurements that would allow me to get glasses elsewhere if I want. It's petty. Also much more expensive than some other places that make equally good lenses with good frame choices, and they don;t take insurance which is of course their prerogative. I hope to follow the optometrist elsewhere when they leave. read more

Awesome customer service and excellent products! A very wide variety of frames as well

I love this store and the staff! They have a great selection of frames. They have in-house eye exams. They are following the protocols for Covid very carefully so you feel completely safe going in and trying on frames. I had a great experience and sent my husband and friend. They all had the same great experience. The prices are good as well - many designer frames. I cannot recommend enough! Use your FSA account and get yourself some great glasses!! read more

Highland Opticians has been our go-to resource for eyeglasses over the past couple of decades. They have a great selection of frames in a wide price range. And their customer service is outstanding. A special shoutout to Emillie! She exemplifies professionalism and customer service to the nth degree. read more

I had a great experience here for my annual eye exam. The doctor was extremely thorough and there was no wait. Got a print out of my glasses and contacts prescription right away. I'll be back! read more

Highland Opticians - My newest reading glasses from Highland Opticians. - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Newton Highlands, Massachusetts

I have shopped with Highland opticians for close to 20 years my grandmother you Sam my mother has used them I recommended work colleagues this company is family owned they go out of their way for people there especially KIM to the elderly I don't have enough wonderful things to say about them and their selection is bad ass read more

Highland Opticians is possibly the best eyewear store in the Boston area. Prices are not cheap but you get superior service which is key in eyewear. There is an in-house optometrist, Dr. Shuer, who is top-flight and excellent with children. The proprietors have been in the business forever and are extremely expert in all aspects of lens crafting and eyewear. They have an extensively equipped lab in-store. Many lesser stores go to them to get complicated work done. The eyewear selection is upscale and traditional: Brooks Brothers, Zeiss, etc. Sunglass lines include Maui Jim, Reptile and Porsche. They have some ski masks and diving masks and other miscellaneous eyewear. Update: they no longer have Zeiss apparently and lately their lines have featured fewer brand names, possibly because it is harder to make money off of brand name frames, I don't know. I recently had to return a pair of no-name frames because of defective manufacturing. Even though the frames were 3 years old, they had no trouble replacing them at no cost. read more

I wish there were a way to convey what a fantastic company Highland Opticians is. I have one working pair of glasses. The ear piece came off. It's a problem, because I'm not going into public buildings these days. The folks at Highland Opticians let me park outside their offices as they stepped out to take my glasses. A couple of hours later, they'd fixed them, and again came to the front of the store to hand them back to me. They charged me nothing. During a pandemic, it's incredibly reassuring to know that there are folks in our local business community who are ethical people and great neighbors. Highland Opticians earned a customer for life. I can't thank them enough. read more

I just had a VERY FRUSTRATING experience with this optical store. After spending $750 on new glasses and getting my eyes examined there to obtain an updated prescription to purchase these new glasses, THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A COPY OF MY FULL PRESCRIPTION INCLUDING PD. I had just read a Boston Globe article about how typically optometrists don't give you your full prescription so you cannot buy glasses online. (Article dated 3/21/17 "What Your Optometrist Doesn't Want You To Know." ) MA OPTOMETRISTS ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO GIVE YOU YOUR PD NUMBER WHEN ASKED. Since I was spending a boatload of money for new glasses, I felt morally entitled, not just legally entitled, to request this information. So when they gave offered me a copy of my prescription, I said yes I would like a copy and I would like it to include my PD number on it. The optician (not the optometrist) basically said no, claiming liability reasons and other nonsense reasons. I then went back to the optometrist who had just examined me and she said she doesn't take this measurement as a general practice, and that she leaves it up to the optician to take it. And since I was no longer in her examine room, my appointment had technically ended a few minutes ago, that she would not be able to take this measurement. (It had already been taken by the optician anyway... but she would not release it.) So I was in a catch 22, where the optometrist is intentionally not taking this essential measurement (having the optician do it instead), so she that she can't be legally required to release it. VERY SNEAKY. This is BAD BUSINESS if you ask me, especially to customers dropping $750 on one lousy pair of glasses. read more

Very disappointed with the way they dealt with my insurance. The salesman got a bit agitated by my questions about the pricing. I ended up walking out without a purchase, even though I loved the glasses. Luckily the next place I tried had the exact same glasses for significantly LESS money. So glad I walked out! read more

My family has been going here for 20 years. Great selection of sunglasses and eyeglasses. Prices are general 20-35% lower that Pearle, Cambridge Eye Docs, and LensCrafters. Jeff, Jerry, Linda, and Steve all do a great job fitting faces. And if you ever need an adjustment, loose a screw, they fix it no charge. Now that old school customer service. read more

I brought my mom here for glasses. They were patient, kind, understanding, and wonderful to deal with in every way. They genuinely care. It's not 'customer service' - it's being human and genuine and having an interest and curiosity in others. They like people. We returned a year later for a minor adjustment - no charge. Great selection of frames. Helped us find the perfect frames that met mom's needs and was aesthetically just right. Can't recommend them highly enough. I'm coming here for my next pair! read more

I had been wearing glasses for awhile and wanted to try contacts so on the recommendation of a friend went to Highland Opticians where I met Dr. Huang. I was extremely satisfied with the service I received during my eye exam and contact fitting! I would definitely recommend Dr. Huang and Highland Opticians to my friends and family! read more

This place is the best! I live in NYC now but grew up in Newton. Since I visit family often back in town I can still use Highland Opticians & I do. My family jokes that the real reason I visit them is to go to Highland Opticians. read more

The customer service at Highland Opticians is beyond compare. I'd been to several other opticians before discovering Highland and they didn't come close with regard to individualized attention, patience, guidance, and follow-up service. This place is exceptional. read more

I can't say enough good things about the service I received. I had a new prescription, but wanted to keep the same rimless frame. I visited five big chain locations and all of them told me it wasn't possible. Highland Opticians didn't have any problems fulfilling my request. They gave me several options, explained pros and cons for each and in the end met my price target, which was important to me. They even replaced the lenses while I was waiting, in less than half an hour, so I didn't have to be without glasses even for a day. I will never use another provider for my optical needs. read more

Excellent customer service in this family-run business. Just went for the first time today because I needed lenses transferred to a new frame. Emily was very helpful and quick and did not charge me anything. I will definitely go back next time someone in my family needs glasses. read more

Rude and overpriced. Refused to provide PD measurement after we dropped over $300 in their store. We won't be back.

I don't know if their prices are high or if all good eyeglasses cost money. But whatever I spend at this store, I get more than my money's worth. I always need help sorting through the frames to select the best pair for me. And then I need adjustments whenever something happens to my glasses (minor accidents, a fall). They can special order frames that they don't carry, in case you want cable temples (a rubber piece curves behind your ears to hold the glasses on well), or whatever you want. I don't live in Newton, but they are on the T and easy to get to by car. read more

After having a bad experience at the Target Optical department, I went here to look at frames. They had a huge selection, and the salespeople were very helpful and let you browse without being in your way. When I eventually narrowed my choices, the salesperson gave me an honest opinion about which frames looked better and actually suggested the cheaper frames. There was also no pressure to upgrade to special lenses, and they were very upfront about what additional things would cost. I will definitely be back here for all my future glasses purchases. read more

I have gone to Highland Opticians since I first started to need glasses three years ago, and other members of my family have gone there for years before. Every time I am there, the staff could not be friendlier and the service is impeccable. They are experts in what they do, and they go out of their way to save you money (often, little tune-ups and glasses cases are free of charge, even when I lost my case and had to get another one). Highly recommended! read more

i finally got vision insurance through work, so i looked for an optometrist near my house. dr. shuer was a great find, and completely by luck because i didn't even think to check yelp in advance. he was very welcoming and explained each step of the check-up in an easy-to-understand manner. i left feeling like i learned something. it was easy to communicate my concerns with him. great customer service all around, from making the appointment via phone, reminder phone call, greeting upon arrival and departure. read more

My wife and I have used Highland for many, many years. They are very pro-active and real problem-solvers. Jeff, Emily and Julie are the best, and their staff is excellent as well! Recently I used their in-house optometrist, Dr. Shore, for the first time, and could not be happier with the results. I'd highly recommend them! read more

I came here to get a pair of glasses and they were very helpful. They got the glasses to me the next day. Some time went by and I had a change of heart about the frames. I went in and got a full refund and a new pie of glasses. They are so helpful, so kind, and they always steer me right with glasses. read more

These guys are fantastic in every sense of the world: friendly, knowledgeable, customer service-driven, and patient. Originally, I came to them solely based on their Yelp reviews and I could not be happier! The feel-good bonus is that it is a family-run business; I look forward to my next visit.. read more

Just when you thought service was gone you go to Highland Opticians. It is well worth it to give up the mini benefit on glasses from our health insurance to get service like this. Always happy to help. Truly caring. Go the extra mile and then some! read more

I came in because they carry a kind of sunglasses that help block the wind, for people with dry eyes. Peter helped me and was a delight to deal with. After our transaction, I asked some questions about my glasses, with which I have not been happy. He diagnosed the problem and explained my options (which my previous optician never mentioned), and I'll be in soon for a checkup and new glasses. read more

I just ordered a pair of glasses from this store. I felt like I was in someone's home. People were chatting away. They are very friendly, welcoming, helpful with choosing the right style of eyeglasses and competent. My glasses were very reasonably priced compared to where I had bought before. I was expecting a much bigger bill. Will definitely make this the optician I go to for everything! read more

Incredible service! My Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses were broken with screw and lens popped out, and I've had difficulty getting this brand fixed before (teaches me to spend more than $10 on sunglasses!). After trying superglue and taking them to another optician, I had just about given up hope when I saw the excellent reviews here and brought them in. The friendly man who helped me fixed them within minutes! I couldn't believe it. Free of charge! From what I could see, they had an extensive selection of regular frames as well as sunglasses. I will be returning here for all my optical needs, and I suggest you do as well. read more

My whole family goes here. Great local independent business. They are very good and helping you pick out great frames but also backing off when you want to just look by yourself. Reasonable prices and great service. I went to a chain where they took my insurance and got terrible service and they messed up my lenses. I will always go back to Highland Opticians now! read more

My entire family goes here for glasses, and we have only had very positive experiences. They are very helpful and have a big selection of glasses as well as excellent customer service. When I forgot my glasses case, the woman helping me insisted that I take one (free of charge) to protect my glasses on the way home. They have also helped size/fit numerous pairs of cheap sunglasses from other stores. I highly recommend them! read more
