My wife and I came in for the first time for their Christmas pop-up theme. Very fun experience. You enter in from the alley at the ominous door and provide the daily passcode. Our host was in character the whole time and provided a great introduction into the library and eventually, the speakeasy. Inside the bar is beautifully decorated for Christmas and all the staff were festively dressed. The holiday menu has ample drinks not found in their normal menu. Each drink has a unique glass and the four drinks we tried were delicious. We made reservations a month ago. I believe you need reservations to attend and according to one of the servers, they're booked until January. We definitely plan to come back during their normal operations. read more

Wow! What an experience. The drinks are delicious. They take a bit of time to make, however the presentation is definitely worth it. It is so fun in there. Terrible experience for a special occasion. A friend had planned her own birthday, which was on a Tuesday so not during a typically busy night, and called weeks ahead to ask about bringing in cupcakes to celebrate. She was told yes and even was offered candles and plates be provided to us, but then within hours of the reservation was called and told it was against policy but that something would be done to make up for the miscommunication. She also advised against canceling late because of the cancelation fee, which is $30 per person and we had a party of 11. When our large party arrived, there was no acknowledgement of the inconvenience or even a happy birthday. None of us had any expectations of receiving anything for free but not acknowledging it was like salt in the wound. With our large party, gratuity was added which is great, but they also charged the tax after adding the gratuity so be sure to watch your receipts for this, in my mind it's theft. The drinks and presentations were creative and our server was very kind but not offering to waive the cancelation fee, extra charges and lack of hospitality speaks volumes about what this establishment prioritizes above all else. It was our first time in Boise, and this place was so much fun! From the secret alley door to having to give a password (make sure you have a reservation) ..the entire staff was so incredible and friendly. The owner happened to be working that night and was incredibly hospitable, personally checked in on us and made sure we received the best service. They have one of the most impressive whiskey bars I've ever seen.. the entire bar is decorated to fit a speakesy vibe, with the perfect music and ambience. We ordered their charcuterie board which had excellent hand selected cheeses and meats, and their specialty cocktails all came in unique glasses. We had a really great experience. Made reservations to Mistletoe Magic 2 months ago for party of 8 and prepaid. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, only 3 could make it. We told the hostess, and from that point on it went south. We were left standing in the rain while they let others through with no explanation what was happening. Could she at least let us in to the book room while she figured it out? We finally had to knock a few times on the window to find out what was going on. The hostess was very rude and stated that because our party was smaller they are losing revenue and they are now trying to figure out what to do with us. Really? She said that out loud? We then said it is raining out here. She replies rudely with "I don't control the weather!" This really upset my guests! It was an unbelievable lack of customer service! Things happen and plans change. We can own that but certainly didn't expect to be treated with such rudeness and lack of cust service. There were people with no reservations who got turned away...what? They could have filled in for us and she wouldn't allow it. There went some revenue! The hostess may have looked like a sweet little elf but don't let looks fool you! We finally got sat at the bar (with other tables empty) and actually started to have a positive experience. The bartenders were really fun and interacted with us. The drinks and Christmas ambiance were festive. Would I do this again? Hmmm not sure I will choose to spend my hard earned disposable income at this particular establishment again. There are other choices out there. Gatsby...you need to train up your hostess on how to handle difficult situations and flexibility!! Or at least how to hide her frustration!!! It was unprofessional! Date night success! My sister surprised me with a reservation to this place for my husband and I. The invitation stated formal wear and we were not sure what to expect. They give you a password and you knock on a nondescript door in an alley way. The hostess goes into character and describes the rules for the "Library" as this is set in the prohibition era. The small cramped space was my least favorite because it had a strong unpleasant odor. Otherwise it was a cute and unique way to enter. Once inside you were transported to a beautiful and unique space with two different rooms. We sat in the back room on two comfortable wing back chairs. The bigger room had tables and sat larger parties. Attire- many dressed in period wear with flapper type dresses. We were dressed better than casual but didn't feel uncomfortable. The service was great but once we had our drinks it took a long while before our server ever came to check on us. Usually this would be welcome but we had another reservation to get to so my husband ended up leaving to retrieve our car while I waited to flag someone down. Drinks- we had amazing drinks that I've never had or seen before. It's truly a unique experience! My drink came in a cake cone shaped glass that had a smoke bubble on top. Not only looked good but tasted great! My husband had a drink that came in a jewelry type box that let out smoke when you opened it. We will definitely be back to try others and give ourselves plenty of time to enjoy the scene. read more

It forever tops as my favorite. - 10/10 for the S'mores Old Fashioned. My partner said it was one of the best old fashions he has ever had. - 10/10 for Josephine Baker. I would say do your research before going, or you won't be let in ;) Love that they stick to a speakeasy tradition this way. The drinks we ordered were all in super fun glassware and were absolutely delicious. My one drink was probably the coolest glass I have ever had. The bartender was super nice and chatted with us a bit. The inside is dark and moody. Prices are a bit higher but not crazy compared to what everyone is else is charging now a days. We went to Gatsby for the first time last night. We went for the Christmas themed bar. The decorations were festive and the drinks were good. There were fun added touches to the drinks including smoke bubbles, unique glasses and some pyrotechnics. Unfortunately the experience was tainted when the bill came around. There was a $30 per person food and drink minimum that was not made clear. It's not stated on the menu, and it was not mentioned to us by our server. It's in the fine print on the bottom of their website. Our server should have mentioned the minimum when she asked us if we wanted another round. Had we known, we would have ordered another drink instead of paying $30 for nothing. The Gatsby is completely booked out for the Christmas season so enforcing a $30 per person food and drink minimum feels highly unnecessary to maintain their business. The combination of slow service (it was over 10 minutes of us sitting at the table before being served while the servers walked past our table multiple times without acknowledging us and didn't give us water until after we had ordered) and the shock of the check really ruined the experience for us. I had a reservation in December with a different group of friends but we will be cancelling that reservation. In my opinion, $30 per person is simply not worth it for this experience. read more
