    dulu - Charcuterie board

We've just made our first visit to Dulu and the Doctor Sax House, and we are HOOKED! The historic…read moremansion was recently (beautifully!) renovated to create a cozy bar, various dining spaces, and fireplace lounge seating tucked throughout the rambling first floor rooms, plus elegant sleeping quarters located on the upper floors. We enjoyed dinner before an event, then returned afterward for late-evening cocktails next to the fireplace, and we can attest that there is no other space that feels like Dulu in the entire Lenox/Stockbridge/Lee area! The vibe is classic yet modern, intimate, but also a little bit edgy, with a funky eclectic decor and quiet club music playing in the background - a perfect mix of Berkshires elegance plus contemporary urban sophistication! We shared several items for dinner, and felt that all were well-executed and very enjoyable - including an excellent spice-rubbed shrimp appetizer with fresh green s'chug for dipping, a bright shaved Brussels & manchego salad (which would have benefitted from just a pinch more salt), a perfectly-prepared thick hunk of salmon with crispy skin & bitter greens, and an interesting squash gnocchi with sausage and rosemary (which would have benefitted from a final light splash of acid - perhaps a squeeze of lemon or a few drops of champagne vinegar). Cocktails and wine pairings were EXCELLENT - this bar staff really knows what they're doing! Service was kind and efficient, and we were truly made to feel welcome. Prices are definitely at the higher end, but we felt that the quality of the food and beverages we enjoyed, plus the INCREDIBLE Dulu atmosphere, more than justify the cost. Thank you, Dulu - we will definitely be back!

He served up multiple mocktails and cocktails with aplomb and even pulled off a ginger and lychee combination that shouldn't have worked but was delish. Almost everything else missed the mark. Staff should know to de-vein shrimp before sending out skewers. They should also know what "black and blue" means if they're serving steak. Another table ordered it and five staff members huddled around a phone at the bar to look it up like they were searching for Pokémon. The orecchiette had perfect texture, but truffle oil made half the plate inedible. The Persian crispy rice, the dish I was most looking forward to, was a complete let down. The rice was well cooked, but the eggplant filling was nearly flavorless and the meager amount of smoked tomato couldn't save it. The roasted mushroom board was good though we improved it ourselves by spreading leftover s'chug from the shrimp skewers onto the bread and layering the mushrooms on top. It also had truffle for some reason. Why? Dulu has the right ingredients to be top tier. This just wasn't their night. The bartender rescued the evening. Give that man a raise.

Lenox has some really cool spots and Ombra is one of them. Recommended by a local, we stopped here on Valentine's Day after our dinner for a nice glass of wine. The place was crowded but luckily a few people were leaving so we scored some seats at the bar. I ordered a glass of Nebbiolo from Italy which was good. My husband had a beer. The place is so cute and very romantic with dim lights, a great wine selection and their food looked so good. Unfortunately, we were so full that we did not end up ordering anything. Although, the french fries were calling my name. Ombra is a place that I could see us coming to almost every week and not getting tired of it. We met a local who is very nice and told us how Ombra is very popular. I think we will have to come back in the spring/summer to get those french fries :) If you are ever in Lenox definitely make your way to Ombra for a nice glass of wine or try a cocktail. This is the perfect date night spot for sure whether you start or end your evening here, you will be happy! Cheers~

Arugula salad was very good - apricots and cheese were a great addition, there was a little too much sherry vinaigrette. Boom boom shrimp had a nice subtle kick and crispy! I'm not sure if it was an off night, but unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite and I'm not sure I would go back. There are definitely a lot of pros, it was easy to make a reservation, we were promptly seated at a clean and quiet table once we arrived, and the service was overall pretty timely. However, the food and drink left a little bit to be desired. As vegetarians, split a pizza (the olives and mozzarella one) and the kale salad. The salad was fine, but the carrot and tomato was pretty sparse, and the kale felt like nothing had been done to it, like it hadn't been massaged or seasoned or anything so it had a very raw flavor. The pizza was super salty and felt very onenote. It felt like the sauce was a little bit salty, and then the olives, garlic, and oregano were just all very savory. At the end of the night we split a bread pudding for the table, which also wasn't my favorite - the bread was really hard and just hadn't been soaked enough in whatever the flavoring was to mask it. It's possible that they do much better with the meat dishes?

A Valentine's dinner that did not impress!…read more Valentine's has always been a very special holiday for me. My husband and I decided to spend the weekend in the Berkshires, which was lovely and quiet. I made reservations ahead of time for this highly rated wine bar and very close to where we were staying. First off, due to the previous weather/storms they had no street parking. But luckily we parked in a nearby lot. Upon arrival, the restaurant bar area was very nice and romantic. The server brought us to our table but I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance. I mean the bar area was a bit darker and the table that we were being seated at had a lot of light. Now, don't get me wrong, It was Valentine's day which screams romantic and there was no romantic vibe to this restaurant. After mentioning this to our server she did move us and turned down the lights a bit which was much better. Food/Drinks: The menu was not big at all which was nice. I ordered a dirty martini to start which needed more olive juice and my husband ordered a rum cocktail which he enjoyed. For starters, I ordered their Over Roasted Parsnip which was very good and filling. My husband had their Beet Salad which he said was excellent. For entrees, I had their Seared Duck Breast. I really enjoyed the caramel sauce but did not love the duck itself. My husband had the Oven Roasted Chicken Statler which was very dry he could barley eat it. Also, since this is a wine bar I will say the wines were nothing special which was also a bit disappointing. I wish they had something unique and special to offer especially being on a Valentine's Day. I feel this place may be more of a summer destination. Service: Service was excellent I will say. Our server was always asking how things were, checking on us and if we needed anything and asking about any additional drinks. etc. Also, the Manager came over to ask how everything was but he spefically looked at me. I think my husband would've mentioned his meal being dry if he looked at him as well but my husband could've spoken up too. We did say something to our server after she asked about the chicken dish, which they ended up taken off the bill which was very nice. Overall: I didn't love Alta Wine Bar my first time here, but I would come back in the spring or summer months when the weather is warm to try it again. Cheers~

    Antimony Brewing - Beer flight

"I like smoke and lightning Heavy metal thunder"…read more(Steppenwolf) Q: What on earth is Antimony? A: Antimony is a heavy metal. Chemical symbol Sb and atomic number 51 on your periodic table. Antimony is known as the "wolf of metals" because its chemical structure allows it to devour pretty much any other metal except gold. So that kind of explains all of the wolf-inspired logos and imagery you'll see at Antimony Brewing. It's located in a big retail center with plenty of parking and located on a main road (Route 20), so it's a very easy to visit and enjoy some wonderful beers and food. Four if us just had lunch there and we had a terrific visit. Of course, when I visit a brewery-restaurant, the first thing I do when seated is scope out the beer list and find something that intrigues me. Their selection represents pretty much everything in the beer world - IPAs, Double IPAs, Sours, Ales, Stouts, and Pilsners, plus some very cool cocktails and hard cider. I went with a 16-ounce pour of their Cherry Blonde Ale ($9, 5.0 ABV, 20 IBU). It was mild, very drinkable and quite delicious. Their food menu is very ambitious with ten small plates (how about Texas Twinkie Egg Rolls, Panko Crusted Cheese Curds, or Chicken Kimchi Potstickers?), four salads, eight burgers including elk, bison, lamb, Wagyu, and Ghost Pepper, eight sandwiches including tacos and a Prime Rib Dip, seven Big Plates including salmon, brisket and steak tips, and four pizzas including Wild Mushroom and Balsamic Fig. I couldn't resist the Ghost Pepper Smash Burger ($19) with ghost pepper cheddar, candied jalapenos garlic aioli, and a double smashed burger patties. I thought it was a great choice, the burger patties were yummy and the candied jalapenos packed a punch. The ghost pepper cheese didn't seem to add much zip, but maybe it was overpowered by the jalapenos? My wife ordered a short pour of their cider draft ($4 for 5-ounces) and it was served with a cinnamon sugar dusting on the rim, which really enhanced the apple cider! Her lunch was the Butternut Squash Salad ($16) with mixed greens, cubed butternut squash, goat cheese, candied pecans, dried cranberries, and a maple vinaigrette dressing. What a great mix of flavors and textures. Our server was a young lady named Karizma and she was personable, professional, and very helpful. Our party of four's lunch ran $129 for 5 drinks, our burger and salad, plus another salad (with salmon) and a fish and chips. We had a totally enjoyable visit with great food, great drink, and great friends. PRO TIP There are no sinks in the men's room or ladies' room. Instead, there is a Unisex communal bank of sinks for everyone to wash up together. Seems like a very cool way to make friends!!

They were out of 2 of the seasonal and the next day they were starting a pickle special menu. Too bad we missed it! The service was nice, waitress was attentive. Our favorite beer was the cherry one. I would like to return.
