You couldn't pay me to go back here. Let's start off with how rude and dismissive everyone was. We made reservations for my moms bday. When we got there, they initially put us at this small table. Very small until my mom made a complaint, and then they put us at a booth. However, when at the boot, no one came to service. It was the bartender that came over to ask us if we were all right. Then, some manager came over and was mishearing What we said, so that means for awkward interactions. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our dining experience last night at RJ's Restaurant in Pittsfield, MA was deeply upsetting and disturbing. The mussels I was served were inedible, and I brought the issue to the staff expecting that it could be handled calmly and professionally. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward conversation turned into an unpleasant confrontation. The manager, Nicole, came to our table after I complained about the mussels, which were inedible because half were unopened. She contradicted me, but finally had the offending mussels removed from the bill. No one came to collect the check, so I got up to pay at the bar. Suddenly the owner (who would not tell me his name) appeared out of nowhere and violently ripped the bill from my hands. He started yelling and threatening me. I was shocked by his behavior, especially given that I had raised a legitimate concern about a dish I could not eat. I was able to wrest the bill from him to sign, while he continued to yell, actually screaming that he was "Latino". Not sure what he meant by that. He then followed me back to our table where we all collected our belongings, all while he stood over us in a threatening manner. A restaurant can make a mistake--bad food happens. What matters is how management responds when a customer brings that mistake to their attention. In this case, I felt intimidated rather than heard, and the situation could have been resolved easily with a simple acknowledgment of the problem. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The food issue was disappointing, but the owner's threatening behavior was what ultimately made this experience totally unacceptable. read more

Went there twice once for lunch and once for dinner. For dinner we shared the veal parmigiana and mussels. Plenty of delicious food The other couple had the swordfish and could not stop raving how delicious it was. We went for lunch and I had the lobster ravioli and it was amazing. Other reviews almost kept me away. After a trip away we came back and didn't want the vacation to end so soon, so decided to try RJs finally. To my surprise, It was wonderful! We were quickly greeted and seated in the candlelit dining room. It was a relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive but not hovering. Perfect. We chose two options off the special menu- Pork chops gnocchi with vodka sauce and Cavatelli with filet mignon in mushroom sauce paired with Pinot noir. Delicious! Had never been to this place and decided to try it. Made a reservation and was seated promptly. Very nice host. Sat, and wasn't greeted by the server for over 20 minutes. She did apologize. Espessso martinis no baileys.... It came with Baileys. When the server was told she said "no Baileys" it came with baileys. Wasn't her fault the bartender fault. A nice Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail and onion soup was ordered. Caesar was amazing, shrimp wasn't cold sadly. Onion soup had over 20 crotons in it. Way too many. But the taste was amazing. I have had a great meal here in the past and like the atmosphere. That's why I suggested to go there for a glass of wine with a colleague after work. We sat at the bar and both ordered a different red. When they were set on the bar in front of us, my colleague's pour had over a half inch more wine than mine - hard not to notice when they are set side by side. On top of that, my wine was oxidized. I don't like to make a fuss so I kept quiet and didn't send it back. Regretted that when we got the bill for $25 for two wines. I don't mind paying for wine but if you are going to charge $12 for a glass you need to make sure it is fresh. I don't recommend going there for drinks and might even pass next time I am thinking about Italian food. read more

Not disappointed. We went at 915pm & they sat us even though they close at 10. The ambiance was very nice. The lighting was just right and the level of the music wasn't too loud. I tried the the oysters which came w/ fries which were also perfect and got a side of broccoli Rabe. I thought $10 was a little high but it was a very good size portion and it was delicious!!!! My friend got the garlic Parmigiano chicken wings and she said they were very tasty! I was impressed w/ the girth of them. It's hard to get any real bang for your buck w/ wings lately, but they were quite chunky. I was impressed. I would definitely go there again and would recommend giving it a try. read more

Nice location with a clean look, the food was ok, I enjoyed the branzino dish, but the bolognese was ok, we also had veal cutlet parmigian, (not pictured) that wasnt good, you could barely taste the veal it was so thin, all I could taste was the breading, that dish was a disappointment, the sauce was good tho, and the service was friendly and overall good. read more

Really sad when a good restaurant deteriorates. I enjoyed RJs over year and had some really good meals. But, the last few have been really poor. Last night, my fish was tasteless and the sauce congealed on my plate. The veggies were perfect. But, i was very upset. My wife had an upset stomach after her meal. I think that the deterioration started after they opened a second location near Hudson NY. Perhaps their owner and chef is paying attention to the food there. Awful Experience. Was there three months ago, never left a review, but it's still on my mind because it was bad, so I figure why not do it now. Ordered the special surf and turf with filet and lobster. It was never mentioned that the lobster was warm water (was def. frozen) ; was never mentioned that an as-ordered medium-well filet would be come to me rare because the chef can't cook a steak ... and when it was taken back, it was with an attitude. It came back to me all cut up -- and now cooked --with the rest of the food still lukewarm and 20 minutes later. The other five people I was with were halfway done with their meals. And that dish cost $67!? Muscle appetizers had a bad taste. Was sick the next day. I paid the $250 bill. That was the first and last time I'll ever go to RJs. What a joke. Hope the $250 was worth having a group of five people leave and none of them ever wanting to come back for repeat business. Solid business model. read more

came here to have a nice dinner with in-laws! the staff and restaurant were very accommodating of our large party even though the space itself was a bit tight. our waiter was super friendly, helpful, and attentive... our water glasses never went empty, and he checked up on our meal several times to make sure we were satisfied and didn't need anything else. one of the managers or owners also stopped by towards the end of the meal to say hi and ask about our experience. every single person at the table raved about the food we received, and we have some foodies among us! in fact, we had a chef present, and the food got 10s across the board. everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. from seafood to pork chops to pasta. the menu is a bit pricey, but about typical for more upscale fare. there is a dedicated parking lot right next to this establishment. pittsfield is a bit of a trek for my family, and across the country from me, so i don't know that i'll have the chance to come back--but if i end up in this area again, i'd definitely return for a nice meal. thanks, rj's! read more

Imagine: making a reservation in advance online and then being called 15 minutes before your reservation (in the car) to not come because they gave our table away. IS THIS REAL!?! What reputable business does this!?! Kicked out for commenting on attire of tee shirt snap back hats disrespectful muscleheads in front us. Traveled to Mass for a funeral to find One out three places to have dinner with parties over six. The Manager flirted on the way in and kicked me out and locked the door without any explanation. A mixed review. Food was great and service excellent. However, some negatives. First, we arrived at 3:15 expecting to be able to get the lunch menu as indicated on the website until 4. Nope, not available on Fridays. May have been due to being Good Friday but not an excuse. Deceitful advertising in my book. Waiter read the list of specials with no prices sited and we were short sighted and didn't ask. Ordered one app and one entree off the specials. Total for just those was $65 which I find excessive for First Street in Pittsfield. I will probably go back but was disappointed this time. read more

This is the first time we have been to RJ's. There were 4 of us for dinner. Pleasantly surprised to see white linen tablecloth. They have an incredibly large menu and a specials menu equally large. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. My wife and I shared a caprese salad. Was concerned as not a great time of year as tomatoes not best. Very good. Our friends shared a Caesar salad. Very large. Must say portions are very large. I had stuffed shrimp over a creamy polenta. Very nice and our friend had the same. My wife had a pasta with shrimp and scallops which was excellent. Nice sauce and large portions. Our other friend had eggplant parmigiana. Also very large. They serve a really nice focasia garlic bread. Definitely a find. Will definitely go back. read more

So a party of five. There weren't enough seats at the bar for us so we were kindly waiting. We were told that our other half of the party could not stand behind us as we were having drinks. For the fact that the other guests coming in to sit at their tables would be a little more restricted. I've never heard of this my entire life of being at a bar and not being able to have people stand behind me who were with me to talk to me. I don't know if it was the bar manager or the owner but The way this was handled was definitely means for us never coming back there again. We do not recommend this place to anyone that we know. After hearing a new Italian restaurant had opened in the old rainbow building, my family and I had higher expectations after reading the owner has multiple locations and decided to try it instead of our usual spot Mazzeo's Ristorante. However our experience was sadly disappointing with a mediocre food experience unacceptable for the cost of their plates. Their pasta fagioli was made with pieces of broken up linguine pasta not the usual ditalini and was basically tasteless. The meatballs were very grainy and flavorless as well. The butter brought to the table was as though someone chipped it from stick of butter and was served in a coffee saucer. There was only one fork and a knife at each setting therefore if you had an appetizer or salad you were expected to use the same fork for dinner. The main dishes were definitely not worth the prices as far as quality and taste are concerned and needed much work on presentation. I could overlook these things if their prices were like the average pizzeria, but when you are spending $18-25 per entrée; these little things make a big differance especially in an Italian neighborhood full of affordable Italian food restaurants. We were sort of taken back when the check came out and had a credit card surcharge attached, IMO this just shouldn't happen at a want to be upscale restaurant without giving the guests prior notice especially when the tab for three was over $100 without alcoholic beverages. On a positive note the staff is attentive and very friendly, unfortunately that isn't enough for a restaurant in the Berkshires. read more
