This is the Gateway Laundry

Ok so it's a laundramat, but having traveled the United States for many years, I have had to do laundry for groups as large as 30 people, mostly grade school ages and I have come across laundramats that could use some up grades. This laundramat has dryers that actually dry your clothes, without emptying out your pockets. Your jeans and towels are also very dry. Of course they have the large capacity washers for those huge loads and the extra large washers as well. They even run the air conditioner while the owner is on the premises. What a bonus. And when you need a break, there is a subway and other eateries just a few feet away.

So I came her around 8ish pm having a very rough day and very little sleep, so I wasn't paying attention to the time... Until I turn around and I'm,the only one left. Well one of the employees reminded me of the time and it was already 5 past 10pm (closing)..I,felt like a jerk because I had just pit in 2 large loads and a queen comforter. This sweet man waited 30mins after close to,let me finish drying even told me to put it back in and finish when I tried to take em out. Hod bless his heart. Thanks man

I love the laundromat. They give you soap. It's very clean and the stock is very friendly. I highly recommend if you need a laundry mat.

Nice and clean. Prices not too bad. Machines worked well. They have an attendant. Won't mind going back if my washer breaks.

This place sucks. It says it has laundry service but I haven't seen anyone to give my clothes to and pay to have done.

This quaint (& colorful!) little laundromat offers an interesting and enjoyable atmosphere for…read morecleaning your dirties. From the outside it looks rather bland, seemingly indistinguishable from other related businesses. however, one step inside this little gem and it's hard not to notice its charms. The first among them is the jazz music playing in the background, which must be part of the theme, considering all the William P. Gottlieb posters featuring artists from a time long past. Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker - all of them framed on the walls alongside black & white photos of Manhattan during the Jazz Age. Panning around and taking your focus off the artwork and you'll notice some other pleasant details. Aged tile flooring with worn character, multiple sitting areas accompanied by wooden stools, and of course the ever present change and detergent dispensers. The machines themselves are varied in size and styles. Front load, top load, tiny'ish, and gargantuan - for when those nasty comforters need to be cleaned (hopefully more then once every six months people!). This 'mat is also surrounded by a few convenient businesses to make your wait time more enjoyable. Albee's NY gyros is adjacent (and is amazing), as is a little grocery store, and even a liquor store! Not that I condone drinking while doing laundry, from my experience it almost always guarantees that I'll slack on my folding. Other notable mentions are a 24 hour surveillance system (because safety first!), a cute outside smoking area surrounded by bamboo plants, and a plethora of old reading materials. Honestly, this little shop instantly made it to my short list in regards to laundromats. Clean, quaint, and full of character, I would absolutely recommend checking it out and honoring it with your patronage. 4/5 stars.

I admit, I annoyed the owner at first with my banging on the machine to get my quarters to go in. He was sweet enough to come over and "teach" me how to finesse the machines...lol. All good since! I'm moving next month and I will really miss this little place and family! ** Good prices! ** CLEAN!! ** Owners will give you quarters after you take cash out. (Hint: don't throw away you quarter roll papers. Leave them on the counter for the owners to reuse!) **Detergent available to purchase **Safe environment with owners who pay attention ! **Local Coffee/Doughnut shop next door. And I nicely replied, "I'm only trying to throw my new towels into the dryer to get the lint and fuzz off. I won't take but 10 mins," And she again said " NO..Like I said we close at 10, so I can't let you start some laundry. She was super rude, and super unprofessional, and the fact that she wouldn't let me throw my towels into the dryer was completely ridiculous. So I'm leaving 1 star because of multiple reasons, but if your gonna say you stay open till 10. Then there is NO REASON I couldn't use your dryer BEFORE 10.

It was $11 to do a quick wash on washer C60, which seems pricey to me but it was a pretty huge machine. I put 4 quarters in the dryer and that got me 28 min but it was pretty much dry after 15 min. So the dryer seemed like a great deal. No public restroom, which is typical of laundromats, since our country despises people who are poor and struggling, as well as older, incontinent people. If you have time to kill, there are places to check out nearby like Coastal, Club Thrift and Harbor Freight.

The clothes were just tumbling around damp and dry, with the soap stuck to them. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, he was incredibly rude and sarcastic. He claimed it was a high-efficiency machine that doesn't use much water. When I pointed out the machine's own diagram showing the drum filling halfway with water, he dismissed it by saying, "That's just a picture." He refused to assist or offer a solution, and sarcastically suggested that if I wanted my clothes back immediately, I would have to deal with the water on the floor myself.Paying a high price to get treated with such a bad attitude and leave with unwashed clothes is unacceptable. There is also often pet hair left inside the washers. Save your money and go somewhere else where they respect paying customers.

I was going to do some blankets as well, but then the PayRange app double charged me. I think it might've had something to do with the fact that there is no obvious way to actually start the washing machines. The app promised me a free wash, but then it wouldn't give it to me. I had to add money before I could do anything. The large commercial washers smelled moldy. There is no restroom, but I can understand why. I bought lunch at Tradewinds and used their restroom. A nice lady who was a frequent customer of the place pointed out a phone number where I could call the owner to ask about a refund for my double charge. I also emailed Support on the app. After some back-and-forth, I eventually got my refund the next day. Meanwhile I struggled to find large dryers that still had the pay range app numbers on them. A lot of signage was missing, including the word 'start' on the start button of a number of the machines. All in all, it was not the smooth experience I was hoping for.

The lady next to me had a lot of tie die clothes, so I asked her if the shirt was hers. She said no. The attendant happened to be there and so I told her I found the shirt in my dryer. She asked dryer number and I told her. She put the shirt in office that they use. Next day my son wants to know where his new blue tie die shirt was that he had put in washer yesterday (unbeknownst to me obviously.) As soon as son told me that it was his I went back to JC's. The attendant was not there. I have seen her there at different times so I went home and tried a hour later. No atttendant. I went next day and no attendant. So I went home and wrote a note and a couple hours later returned with my note and tape. I didn't know if I should leave my phone # considering it's just taped to door- anyone can see it. ( I'm not trying to get a bunch of weird calls) but the shirt had never been worn and I needed it back so I put phone ## on note. I explained what happened and that I have been trying to get it back and asked the attendant or whoever works there to call me to pick shirt up. No call all weekend so I went and tried again and again. I have been there at least 20 times in 3 weeks to dry clothes as per usual but I also have tried to catch attendant randomly. Even thought ok maybe I need to be there at opening. No one was there then either. In short I decided that I will be-going to 18th st to dry from now on. Everyone's right the laundry mat is sketchy. The machines are always out of order and it has been a pig stye most of my trips there. They don't care about there customers clearly. oh And it has flooded twice in the years since I started using it.
