If you are looking for a reasonably priced clean bed for the night this is a good choice. They are pet friendly which is nice. The host was very nice and even walked us to our room. They had already turned the heat on for us which was nice. Couple negatives: the memory foam topper or whatever was on the mattress had a serious divot in the middle. My husband sunk into it all night. The other was...Folgers coffee in the room? A small upgrade here would go a long way, I gotta tell you. And we never saw the wifi network and password info on the Libby door until the next morning. Writing it on our room info would have been super simple and helpful. read more

At first glance, the Gateway Inn looks clean, but once you take a closer look, it's a very different story. The bathroom wasn't cleaned properly--hair was everywhere: on the towels, in the shower, and even on the bed. That immediately raised concerns for me, so I checked more closely. Underneath the beds were piles of dust and trash left behind from previous guests. To make things worse, one of the two bed frames was broken. It made me question how clean the sheets, blankets, and pillows really were, and honestly had me worrying about bed bugs. The bathroom also had a pin needle sticking out of the floorboard--something that could easily injure you if you're barefoot. On top of that, the window blinds were damaged with several pieces missing, leaving gaps big enough for people walking by to see right into the room. The WiFi barely worked as well, which just added to the frustration. We had booked two nights, but after the first night, we couldn't stay any longer and decided to leave and find another place. We booked a premium cabin at Gateway Inn back in April. When we arrived, we were handed a key -- no explanation, no heads-up. It wasn't until we got inside the room that we realized it was NOT what we booked. The confirmation email clearly showed a premium cabin, but this was just a regular room. We went to the office to ask what happened, and only then were we told they had overbooked and downgraded us -- without telling us. They offered an $80 refund, which honestly felt like a slap in the face after months of looking forward to the stay. The room was stuffy, the carpet had questionable stains, and the advertised WiFi kept cutting out every few minutes. The location may be right at the park entrance, but don't let that fool you. If they can't be honest about your reservation or respect what you paid for, the convenience isn't worth it. Would not recommend. read more

We stayed in Room 24 on 10/8/2024 - $141.77/night. Large, cute room. Fridge, microwave and coffee. Stand heater that kept the room toasty all night. The room had a stand shower - only two we've seen in all our travels. The beds were very comfortable with four pillows each. I'm not sure why the room had been hosed with air freshener, though - we had to run open the door, run the fan and light a candle to mitigate the smell. Decent WiFi and a Samsung Smart TV. Once the air freshener cleared out, the room smelled deliciously of wood. The nightstands had USB ports and outlets. Please, seriously, if you are looking for lodging close to the park, do NOT even consider staying here! My wife and I stayed here one night with her parents who were visiting from out town before leaving and finding lodging for the remainder of our stay at the park. Had anywhere else been open we would not have even stayed that long. Black mold on the ceilings, dusty, filthy and dirty rooms, structural issues with the cabins, water damage in the floors that have been clearly covered up, and not even well, cords with bare wires sitting against bedsheets,rats and mice in the rooms, not to mention the owner Kenny who apparently gives no refunds, ever, for any reason. I listened to another guest call him when arriving around 5pm to check in, confused about why nobody was around. and the owner was rude over the phone to him. I could go on and on about all of the unsafe, unsanitary, and flat out disgusting issues this place has. The website photos look nothing like the room, and the mini mart and gift shop shown in the photo online has been removed and replaced with additional rooms. Im not quite sure how this place is even still in business, and how they've managed to dodge health and fire inspections, but the main building and older cabins should be condemned. This is an amazing place to stay and is right at the park entrance and only 15 min away from Narada falls which is on the way to Paradise Inn Mt. Rainier. It was rather hectic book for me as I suddenly decided that I am doing this trip around/to Olympic Park/Forest with the stop at Mt. Rainier and this place had room . I booked it in spite of bad reviews. I am so happy I did! We loved absolutely everything it even had a huge fridge so we could freeze the water and save the food from Costco we bought for several days in Olympic. It even had mossy trees, nice backyard at the back, very quit place. The room was amazing and very cozy! We had Unit # 18 , very big , great pillows with nice pictures and vintage surrounding! We stayed at the beginning of August. It had great instructions as we arrived very late. In fact I was almost reconsidering the whole itinery just to stay couple more days here, it was so nice and cozy. We have great memories, I just wish we stayed longer. We will come again and stay here again for sure. People at the front desk are extremely nice and knowledgeable! I can go on and on with the description! This was the dirtiest room i have ever been in! 2 blood spots on comforter, old blood stain on sheets, hair & skin flakes in sheets, lots of hair in sheets, hair/dust/ants all around the corners of the walls, & some weird yellow dripping streaks under the table. We ended up sleeping on top of the comforter in our clothes (with hoods ups) since we arrived late at night and everywhere else was booked. Sure, its old, furniture isnt great, the tv/dvd situation didnt work.. i can overlook that, but to be in an unclean unhealthy situation, i can not! $150 a night to sleep in total filth is unacceptable. Simple, clean accomodations that are a stone's throw from the Nisqually entrance to Rainier National Park. Four of us stayed in the premium cottage with double queen beds. We had a mini fridge, microwave and coffeemaker as well as a small front porch with seating for two. Deer visited the property one morning. Beds were comfortable and there were lots of surfaces to rest our things on. We could log on to our Netflix tbrough the tv and watch a movie. It was the June shoulder season so not many things in Ashford were open during the week but the town of Morton is 30 minutes away and not as sleepy hehe. Fraud, negligence, and squalor. A total scam. If you stay here, make sure your credit card company has a good fraud department, you're going to need it. We planned a pacific northwest trip and were so excited to stay in the "Deluxe Cabin" at gate way inn. There was nothing deluxe about it, despite how nice the pictures look. This experience was complete fraud. When we walked in, the stench of cigarette smoke was very strong, and it seemed like they knew that because all of the windows were open, and they all had poor seals which was letting bugs in. This must happen often because of the amount of spiders and cobwebs that were all over the dusty and vandalized/carved walls. Every square inch of our cabin had carvings in the wood and the amount of dust spoke perfectly to their negligence of care. Not to mention the stains in the beds. What was even worse was their deliberate withholding of information. When we were driving to the location, we received a call reminding us of our reservation (the most hospitality we received the entire trip); what they failed to mention was the unknown availability of water. We had to find this out ourselves upon walking into the dingy bathroom and reading a printed notice on the wall. The area was experiencing a drought at the time and they put a notice in the bathroom telling guests that water may not be available. Who pays for a "deluxe experience" expecting no water? We understand that droughts happen, and if that were mentioned on the phone, or the website, or an email, in any way at all, we would have never booked the room! Running water is something I assumed we paid for, and a necessity. To top all of the fraudulent activity off, the refund process has been absolute hell with the property lying about any water problems and lying that we stayed for the duration of our reservation (3 nights). You couldn't pay me to step foot back on to the property, we instant booked an Airbnb that same night and never went back. read more

The WORST experience. Do not book a stay at this place. Avoid this establishment if you value your life. The bed sheets and towels had the hair of past residents all over them (see images attached) and we where forced to not stay on the property because the of the disgusting gross non-existent cleaning standards of the room. No hot water either. They have no staff at the desk after 7pm and the delegate responsibilities to the owner creating horrible service. We asked a for a refund through the management and our booking agency... and we where CHEATED OUT 50% OF THE COST ON THE REFUND... and WE NEVER EVEN SPENT THE NIGHT THERE! This took over 4 days to process. The owner and management hanged up several times on me and the booking agent. They where very rude, avoidant of responsibility and just the worst hotel service imaginable. We spent 2 nights at this place & it was miserable. The furniture looked like it was picked up at yard sales. So noisy at night. We stayed in unit #18 and on the 2nd night we were wakened at 4 am by a loud crunching noise that seemed to be moving around the room. My boyfriend checked around the room with my flashlight, and under the dresser - THERE WAS A VERY LARGE RAT!! We were awake from then on, packed our stuff & left! When we called the office, which didn't open until 9am, we were told they'd set up trap, but the owner never gave refunds for anything no matter what! Avoid this place like the plague!!! read more

Nothing like the pictures. A list of what I saw includes but is not limited to... -Dead bugs on the floor -Dead bugs on the windowsill -Stains on the sheets -Mystery crumbs in the carpet -Mystery black crumbs in the fridge -Food stains all over the microwave -Splatter on the mirror -Dust. on EVERYTHING. -Crumbled papers in the corner of the floor. -Power strips everywhere? -Hair in the shower. The lock on the door was a small flimsy door lock. Not only did I feel like my skin was crawling staying here, but I felt incredibly unsafe with that flimsy lock. No deadbolt or chain. This is was disgusting. I cannot express how gross I felt staying there. As mentioned before, the room was outdated and full of a strange assortment of furniture? It looked like the whole place was furnished from a neighborhood yard sale. To those who wrote 5-star reviews, blink twice if you need help. It is dark, old, dirty, has three mattresses (one on top of the other) completely sunk and uncomfortable, wifi signal does not work and it is a problem because there is no signal in that area, dirt in and out of the fridge (bad smell) and microwave, the shower drain with hairs, spiders and bad smell. The only advantage is the distance to the park. Look at the pictures and judge for yourselves. All this for the "economic" price of $170 per day (price in August 2019). Unfortunately, the sheets appeared to not have been changed - gritty with sand and had hair on the sheet. (The next day, between guests in the cabin next door, we could see housekeeping. They were there about five minutes replacing towels, but no sheets were changed. Nothing was cleaned. ) Also, the internet (and TV) did not work. When we asked about it in the office, we were simply told that it doesn't work. We stayed because it was late when we got there, and we didn't have anything else available. Really good location to get in to the park. A few things I'd wish I'd adjusted with my stay. We got the queen bed cabin, which was nice, but very small. Minimal space for luggage or gear. Did have a full kitchen which was what was taking up the majority of the space and we did not use it. This cabin was RIGHT off the road as well so a bit exposed. We had friends staying in the cabins with double beds and that seemed to have a lot more space. The tv and wifi are amenities that are just for show because they don't work either. The lighting in there is horrible and we had to use our cell phone flashlights to navigate around. There were stains on the comforter and the whole cabin is extremely outdated and dirty- I think this place is only still in existence because of it's location. It was so bad we had to leave a day early and find other accommodations. When we presented these issues - the staff was rude and did not care. They did not seem phased by any of our complaints (probably hear it all the time) nor apologize at any point for the inconvenience. They literally do not care. Location - literally right outside the Park. Cabin was kind of funky but was also affordable. This fits our style quite nicely. It was really nice to sit outside and look up at the sky and big trees. The staff was accommodating. Objections - they use TOO MUCH scented detergent on the linens and blankets. We had to ask for a fan, take our stuff back to the car, leave the fan running with the door open. It helped and the staff was very cooperative. Also they need to add more outlets. We had to unplug the microwave to plug in the fan. We had to unplug a lamp to plug in electric toothbrush. We don't care about fancy TV, or a fancy recliner that I think required power. Also the store closed at 5 PM - we had hoped to pick up breakfast sandwiches to microwave there. We had to drive into Ashford to get some. Also the fridge froze everything (luckily most of what we had in there were water bottles). We would stay there again. But if you are looking for fancy, this isn't for you. read more

This place has potential because the set up of the cabins were pretty cute. However, this is by far the worst experience I've had at a cabin/inn. First they charged me way before checking in (even though I opted to pay when I arrive) and there was NO RUNNING WATER. Understanding there was a water shortage due to the drought, but you couldn't even use the shower or wash your hands! The owners failed to disclose that before booking but charged full price at $226 a night. On top of that, we had dirty cups lying around, cob webs all over the fire place, and rats running around! I was kept up all night having to hear rats dig into our trash can and scurrying around the floor. You could spot rat poop in all corners of the room. When I originally checked in, the guys said "you have one of the best rooms". If that was their "best", I don't want to know what the other cabins are like. For the same price as the hotels inside the park (that have no AC or wifi or even private bathrooms/shower) you get a spacious room with AC, WiFi, tv, and a bathroom with a shower. For the price, these little cabins are absolutely adorable. They're quirky. If it's luxury you're expecting you'll be disappointed. But if you want a unique place to stay, easy on the wallet, this is it. We stayed in Cabin #8. Each cabin is a little different and I have no idea what the lodge rooms are like. Cons? The floors in ours aren't quite level, and the shower stall can't possibly be wider than 2 ft. (If you're a larger person you may not fit.) It could use an outlet in the bathroom that isn't attached to the light socket. Pros! It's big! Like, way roomier than you'd think! We had a separate kitchen area with a killer mini fridge (things Actually freeze in there!), a microwave, a coffeemaker, table and chairs. The main room had a reclining, vibrating chair (So random, right?!) and satellites TV. The bed was comfy and the wall heater really works! You can see the entrance to the National Park from the Inn. How cool is that? I can't wait to stay here again and see what the rest of the cabins are like! read more

There's nothing wrong with the cabins themselves. They're quiet and seem pretty clean. It's in a great location, just outside the park. However, at about 10pm, a bat started swooping around the inside of the cabin. The front office was closed, and no one responded to the after hours doorbell. After about 30 minutes of debating what to do, I ended up sleeping in my car. The next morning, when I went to the front desk to complain, the owner asked if I had been able to catch the bat. I told him I didn't try to catch the bat and asked for a refund. The owner refunded half the cost of the room, but since I had "used the bathroom" refused to refund the rest. If I had wanted to sleep in my car and use an indoor bathroom, I would have paid $20 for a campsite. Update: On the advice of my doctor, I am now getting vaccinated for rabies. So now I'm out half the price of the cabin, plus $5000 for a room I didn't even stay in. read more

If you have low expectations this is your place. The best entertainment is watching the neighbors walk in and see the inside of the places. The outside is cute. The inside doesn't match the photos. The lucky number 7 cabin inside had carpet stains like a frat party. The chairs had stains like a porn star show had been produced there. The decor must have been a drive by and picked up for free on the side of the road. Spider webs on the wall in the cracks of log cabin and the dead bug in my bed gave me great comfort thru the remaining days when trying to fall asleep. Toilet paper was one roll, no hand towels. Stay in the campground is my advice. There isn't enough showering for you to feel cleansed. Good luck, anything is possible for the right price ! I have traveled a lot and this was one off the worst. Upstairs 3 bedroom, one ridiculous bathroom built for little people (we are 4 tall drinks of water who had to limbo to both the toilet and mirror. A plus sized person likely could not physically fit in the toilet space. We all hit our heads at 5' 10" to 6'4". The store was well stocked. The young lady who checked us in was either new or a relative since she couldn't find our reservation (because she only looked in the morning not updates for online) and booked us into a room, evidently, already taken when the angry 2nd set of occupants arrived to boot us out. I went to straighten it out. The young lady who checked us in hours early didn't remember any of us. She asked me who I spoke to since "room 11 was empty." I said, "I spoke to YOU dear." She was certain I was wrong. Oy vey...I pointed to our paperwork she filled out and,credit card info at her elbow as proof...hoo boy, then she asked my husband if he needed a room...??? After reading reviews I was hesitant to stay here but made the reservation anyways. We made our reservation through Expedia and we had no issues with our booking. We got there after check in and the staff accommodated us. I probably checked the whole room out and under the beds and ..... nothing to complain about. My only issue was the coffee maker had some dust on it.... not sure what it was but I went ahead and did not make coffee. They had a nice set up of you did want to make your coffee with glass mugs or to go cups along with enough sugar and creamer. If you don't want to make your own coffee, the office opens at 930 and there's complimentary drip. Our trip was great they even leave firewood and starters there for you. The room was a nice set up and even though our bed was next to the fire place we didn't burn. read more

However, the website description says "Imagine crackling fires" but you can literally only imagine them because there are no fire pits or fire places anywhere on the property and when I emailed in advance to ask about it I was told "no fires allowed at my motel, go to the campground for that." The cabin came with a coffee pot, but no coffee cups. A microwave but no silverware. Seeing other bad reviews makes me relieved that we at least had clean bed sheets. I stayed here for one night with family in May 2019. This place is right in front of the entrance to the Paradise area of the park, which is really convenient. We had reserved a room (maybe it was termed a cabin on the website?) with two beds, shower and everything was clean and functional. There was also a table out front where we had our dinner. We arrived late in the evening after driving up from Portland, and although the office was closed, we were able to find the room and complete the check in process later. One quirk I had was that the room was right by the side of the road, and throughout the night, visitors leaving Rainier would pull into the parking area in front of our room taking pictures of all sorts of random things. All in all, no complaints. It was affordable compared to most of the other lodging in the area. read more

My husband and I decided to take a last minute trip to the mountain. We booked a cabin for the night at 4pm the same day. Everyone was so accommodating to our late arrival (they close at 8pm we arrived at 9). The room was exactly what you would expect a room in back of a cabin to be like. Nothing fancy but very homey. The beds were surprisingly comfortable too which was great. We met Laura in the morning and she was witty, helpful and so kind. She started our day off wonderfully with coffee and a good laugh. We stayed in one of the cabins with fireplace. The people were super nice, and there was plenty of firewood to keep the fire going. It was a little outdated, and the furniture showed its wear and tear, but it was still very comfortable and clean. We spent two great nights relaxing by the fire. First, the people running this place are very nice and the restaurant has an excellent breakfast. The location isn't perfect but as close as you can get without being on the mountain. They are about 100 yards from the entrance to the park. The cabins are rustic but do have indoor bathrooms. We found our cabin to be somewhat dirty feeling. The beds were hard and in need of some TLC. The fireplace (wood burning) was cool but it too needed some work to be more user friendly. There was a ton of ash build up that made it difficult to start our fire. Part of our floor felt as though you could go through it if you weren't careful! If it wasn't for the location, I would have been very unhappy about the price. As it was, I was only a little surprised at the price considering the condition of the cabin. So, if you're a "four walls and a roof" type, you'll be just fine here. If you like a little more attention to detail, I'd plan ahead and stay in Paradise further up the volcano. read more

Visited last weekend and our stay was great! The staff was friendly. The cabin was a good size and clean. It was a little old and smelled kinda funny but it's better than camping and exactly what I would expect from any cabin. There's a convenience store right next to the inn and a coffee bar. There were a few families cooking dinner outside and people playing games. There was a new TV inside with satellite. And the entrance to the park was literally 300 ft from my cabin door. It's not some fancy hotel, but it is what you would expect to get from a wood cabin. I booked via hotels.com and I thought it was better than they described.
