The only reason for the rating is mainly because it took about 30-45 min for us to troubleshoot how to get into our room which was super frustrating at 11pm. However, the manager was very nice and checked in on us both days to ensure we were okay. The customer service was great, my only advice is to make sure key cards work prior to leaving for the day. We tried 2 different cards to two different rooms and neither worked. Eventually, we were able to get into our room which I would say was okay. Comparable to a motel 6, the TV and smart lamps were probably the only plus to the room. The shower was very weird and it was hard to get the hot water to actually stay on, so you kind of had to shower quick. Plus since we're so close to the mountains, it was so cold in the room just because of air getting through cracks, but it was so hard to regulate and keep it at a comfortable temperature in the room. Overall, if we return, we more than likely will try out their cabin. read more

We stayed here for two nights while exploring Mount Rainier National Park. The lodge is no better or worse than what you would expect. The room was clean and spacious. There was a microwave and nice fridge which was useful since there was no breakfast at the hotel. They could have put in some extra hooks in the bathroom. There was nothing to hang a hand towel on. There was a faint sewage smell in the bathroom which was off -putting. The rest was all good. We reached a couple hours before check in time but they gave us a room right away. We got room number 1 which is right by the busy road. That might be annoying to some people but it didn't bother us. It was nice to have a big open ground right out our front door. Five minute drive from the hotel, there are a bunch of restaurants and a couple grocery stores and gas stations. Drive to the Stevens canyon entrance of the park is 45 minutes. So, convenient stop if you have to stay outside the park. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. We were charged a pet fee when our dogs didn't stay... they said "sorry you signed the paper". When I asked Grace (the very rude front desk attendant) for a managers phone number she refused. She genuinely seems like she must hate her job. The cabins are nice if you like dog hair and mice and paying almost 300$. Will never go back there and they should really look into possibly hiring some people with better customer service skills. Also, I did eventually speak to the manager and he was just as rude as Grace and basically called me a liar. 0/10 recommend. There's hotel packwood down the road and they have a pool and are super nice. read more

We booked a night here because it was close to Mount Rainier National Park. When we arrived, the front desk guy (Chris) was nice, and gave us an excellent recommendation for food. (Blue Spruce Saloon & Grill) They also have free 1.5mbps wifi (not good for a city, but good for the middle of nowhere) The room, when you first enter it, looks normal. (we got 2 bedroom) You have two beds, a window, the a/c, a TV, etc. The bathroom, unfortunately, had a walk in shower, so when I turned on the shower, water went out of the shower. The mattresses felt extremely cheap, which did not help me sleep. That hurt my relatively good first impression of the hotel. The breakfast was also below average. They only had pre-made items. (rolls, bread, pastries) No protein whatsoever. I hate to give a straight 5 hotel a 3, but they really did not give me what a 5 star should have given me. read more

This establishment is a great example of supply and demand economics. We paid $250 for a one night stay. But we wisely did not expect a room that justified the price. This is a two or three star motel. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the climate control worked. There was adequate lighting in the room. The door locked. The place felt safe and it was quiet at night. (I could clearly hear footsteps in the room above mine, but the occupant was otherwise quiet. I suspect that there is not a lot of soundproofing and it could get noisy.) There was a coffee pot in the room and a refrigerator. There is a convenient restaurant nearby for breakfast or lunch. On the flip side, the bathroom was last done in the 70s, the lighting over the vanity was florescent, dim, and awful, the shower fixtures were wonky and I nearly scalded myself, and the fan which is on a timer refused to turn off and ran all night. The furnishings in the room are tired and there was an area rug placed in an unusual position which most likely covered a large stain or a defect in the carpeting. This is a fine place to stay if you want to be near Mount Rainier, but adjust your expectations. The price is a function of scarcity, not quality. read more

After a long day of hiking we came back to our Packwood Lodge cabin. It had a jacuzzi and that was so nice after a cold, wet and extensive hike. The cabin was cute, clean, up to date with all basic amenities. It also had a picnic table out front with BBQ. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We accidentally left our jackets in the closet and left. They promptly called us but unfortunately we were too far from the location so they shipped it free of charge. Rooms are clean and very spacious. I had a problem getting to the location due to road conditions. The people at the front desk credit my stay for another time and they were very understand. When I did, I had my laptop with some movies on it but I didn't have an HDMI cord. The front desk loaned one out to me and I am very grateful. read more

My closest friends and family stayed here with my husband and I for our wedding. We were eloping and hoping for snow, but there wasn't snow at the lodge. They went above and beyond, providing detailed instructions with a map and mile marker explanations to give us some possibilities of areas with snow that would also work for a quick wedding. We absolutely would've never found the place that we got married if it weren't for them. Staying in the cabins and having the jacuzzi was yet another beautiful time for us (and more pertinent to the lodge, but seriously - best, kindest hotel "staff" I have ever met). Everything was clean, comfortable, and gorgeous. We are absolutely looking forward to coming back to celebrate many of our future anniversaries. read more

Be careful who you talk to when making reservations. I called before 9:00 and was unknowingly transferred to a call center. The person who took the reservation asked for my credit card number three times, finally said she had it and the reservation was made, and I would receive an email. Fast forward two days: no email, no charge on my card. I called again and not only was there no reservation on record, but the price had gone up $100 ( which was my gas money) and there was "nothing they could do." I'm very unimpressed. read more

After calling several hotels in the area we chose the cheaper one. We called one of the more expensive ones and they said Packwood Lodge wasn't a clean place. Who ever that was was completely wrong. Room is spacious and certainly clean, bed sheets are clean, tv works, ac/ heating unit appear brand new. Also the walls and bathroom are clean (as in no holes or old looking) certainly recommend. Price point, cleanliness, friendliness from staff, close to the National park is all there. Next time we visit this place will be our first call and reservation. Bath robes also included which was a fantastic touch. read more

We stayed 2 nights while visiting Mt. Rainier. For the price we paid, our expectations were much higher as this place needs major upgrading! Flies on the ceiling, beds were bouncy, pillows were flat and hard, furniture was old, thin towels, cheap bath products, pilling on the linen. Hall light kept flickering on/off so we had to keep it off which made the room very dark. Foot traffic upstairs was very loud and disruptive. Dog fee is $25/night with breed and size restrictions (under 50lbs - no Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepard). It was hard to swallow $50 after spending our trip at much nicer hotels with cheaper fees. The room smelled like wildfire smoke when outside was fresh and clean. When we brought this up to Grace at the front desk, we were met with attitude about how there is a wildfire in the area (as if we didn't already know) and excuses rather than a solution besides offering us deodorizing spray to cover up the smell...(gross). No apology for the inconvenience, just a shoulder shrug as she told us they were fully booked and we couldn't switch rooms. Her bad attitude set the tone for our stay. she should NOT be in customer service. Not conducive to the face of the business. The smell could have been avoided by simply keeping the window open in between guests. We opted to get extra blankets and sleep with the window open. I have serious asthma so the options were to wheeze or freeze all night. No amenities are within walking distance, must drive to town. Do yourself a favor and book early enough to stay elsewhere. Not a 3 star hotel by definition. read more

Paid $119 after taxes/fees. Room is super clean, nice and big. King size bed is very comfortable. Reception was nice and they provide maps of the area. Breakfast was standard but did the job: bagels, English muffins, danishes, cereal, bananas, toast, coffee, tea, orange juice. Coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator in room. Very close to the mountain loops. We stayed in room #29 which is right above reception and a corner room. I expect it being a corner room made it so spacious, only issue was at about 7am (when breakfast starts) we could hear the people downstairs clear as day, so I would say this room would be suited for early risers, otherwise I would say get a room on the other side of the building away from reception. We didn't mind the noise too much, but we're pretty easy going. read more

Pros: We stayed in the King suite. It was a decent size, decent beds, clean, lots of windows. Cons: Very weak wifi (had to stay in specific spots in the room), no cell coverage (had to drive 4 miles to Packwood to make phone calls), no land line in the room, no coffee maker in the room (have to walk down to the lobby to get your coffee). We had an issue with a clogged toilet at 10pm, no plunger in the room, and the front office/lobby closes at 9pm. There was an after hours emergency phone number on the check in form, but no one answered the call. Next morning, go to the office to let them know what happened and was told by the manager that they had changed the emergency phone number, but forgot to change it on the check in sheets. He also stated that he had tried to convince owners to have the lobby open later, because ' he wasn't going to get up out of bed to drive over to help anyone at 11:30 at night'. I requested a refund for the night's stay, but seriously doubt to see any refund. The staff just doesn't seem to care about their guests. They are charging way too much for their rooms for this type of guest care. If it were some dingy motel, I would expect it, but not when you pay as much as they are charging. read more

SUCH a well done remodel!!! They have thought of EVERYTHING that the big chains have with 100% more charm & personality for a fraction of the price!!! VERY roomy, incredibly CLEAN & the decor is comfy mountain home style! Couple miles down the road and your in the cute town of Packwood & the other direction put us skiing at White Pass in 20 min. They had a nice little breakfast ready by 7am to kick off our skiing (or hiking in the summer) the right way! We have now stayed here twice & will be back many more times! It was a very disappointing experience. We checked into the lodge last week in very hot weather. I hung our two light jackets (lululemon) in the closet and left them their throughout the course of our stay. The closet was not very large, and was basically empty other than my two jackets. When we were leaving, we forgot to pack the jackets, but we realized that fairly quickly and returned to the lodge to retrieve the jackets within two hours. When we were there, the cleaning lady was still in the room. She claimed that the room was sanitized and we couldn't go inside to find our stuff. She also claimed that she took everything in the closet to the washroom, and she didn't know if there were any jackets. She asked us to check the laundry. We reported it to the front desk, who first refused to do anything for us. Later, they finally agreed to look through the laundry. The jackets were not in the laundry pile as we expected, and we have reason to believe that they were stolen. We have stayed in many hotels, and this was the first time that our items were stolen. Watch out for your belongings if you have to stay in this hotel. read more

This place is a hidden gem. The manager, Chris, is amazing and goes out of his way to make your visit comfortable. The rest of the staff is friendly too. The place is newly renovated with nice, redone, clean rooms and beds. They provide a cute little breakfast with indoor or outdoor seating. We also had complementary wine at check-in and a campfire with provided marshmallows for roasting. This place felt like we were living a scene out of Misery. I would call it a motel. When we first arrived we had to wait 35 minutes for the guy who was working there to come from the basement. Their "breakfast" is a variety of 3 cereals that were so stale you could tell they had been serving it for months. The town it's in has one restaurant that was so scary, I had to take my Hillary number sticker off so we didn't get murdered. read more

We enjoyed having one of Packwood Lodge's cabins as a nearby place to crash prior to a two-night backpacking trip in the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Staff was available and friendly when we arrived much later than planned (11pm) to pick up our cabin key. This was one of the first overnight stays we've done since the beginning of the pandemic, so we were relieved to find the cabin very clean and well equipped for an in-room breakfast prior to setting out. More than five stars are warranted for the prompt, free-of-charge shipping of my shaving kit back to me that I left in cabin in the rush to get an early start on our adventure. This hotel acknowledged that they had incomplete/inaccurate information about their pet policy on Expedia but were not willing to accommodate us even though we had just driven 3 hours to stay there on Christmas Eve and Christmas night. They said they "never have this problem until Christmas time" when apparently a number of visitors arrive each year unaware of their pet policies (including another couple that arrived right before us). I would take that as a sign that their policies are not well communicated to people booking rooms there. It's great that they have this information listed on their website and in hindsight, I wish we had visited their website rather than relying on the information they provided to Expedia. However, that being said I wish they would have honored the terms under which we reserved the room. It was not exactly how we wanted to spend Christmas Eve looking for last minute accommodations. The unlisted policies included: no pets over 50 pounds; no "bully breeds"; and no leaving your animal in the room, even if they are crated. They also changed their pet rate to $15 per night instead of $10 per total stay without updating their information online. Also, we noticed later that they are the only hotel in town that is not within walking distance from restaurants/cafes/shops, etc. Luckily we stayed at another hotel in town - they were upfront about their policies and very accommodating. It was very nice to be able to go for walks in the morning to the coffee shop and go out to eat without having to drive in the evenings as well. read more

What a gem! THE place to stay for Mt Rainier!! I found this place when I was booking for the family vacation; it had good ratings and the right price. It really exceeded my expectations!! Chris, the manager, was an amazing host! We loved hanging out by the camp fire having wine and roasting marshmallows w him and other guests. All the rooms were refurbished back in Feb when the new management took over. We had a double queens room in the side building and it was nicely decorated w quality stuff. Nice bed, fluffy pillows, good size mini fridge, plush towels, bath robes, and they even had one of those toilets w lid/seat that won't slam. Nice selection of breakfast items too. The lodge is just right outside of downtown area (so the only downside is you have to drive to get in town) and very close to the entrance to Mt Rainier. THE place to stay for Mt Rainier!! Recently visited this hotel with my boyfriend and it was nothing like we expected. I was expecting something average like a Travelodge, but this location was AMAZING. The architecture is so quaint and the location is incredibly close to Mt Rainier. We had a room with a king bed and it was incredibly spacious. The window looked into the woods and you could hear the stream running too. The room was clean with plenty of towels; and bathrobes were even included which made it feel like a fancy 5 star hotel. As others have noted it is about 4 miles from the town, but we didn't mind because we enjoyed the isolation and driving through the beautiful forest scenery. I will note the TV in our room was a little outdated and room service did not come by (but presumably because of the pandemic). Overall, my boyfriend and I had an amazing time and will definitely return (but maybe for one of those jacuzzi cabins). read more

WOW! This place is a gem for the money! We stayed in a Best Western last night that was totally disgusting and was more expensive. The Packwood Lodge is very near the Mt. Rainier National Park, so a great place to stay if you're visiting the area. The proprietor was extremely hospitable and offered us a complimentary glass of wine when we checked in. The room is spotless, clean, odor free and really without complaint. The mattress is super comfortable and the wi-fi WORKS (which is a rarity in hotel these days). Would stay here again without question and will recommend to friends and family! read more
