Our family was just informed by the Mounthaven Resort personnel that we cannot receive our refund for our security deposit we had made to them for our upcoming Summer 2026 vacation. We are very disappointed by their response and quite frankly, we've never experienced anything like this. We have booked trips at various campsites throughout the U.S., including State park and beaches, and even KOA's, but never have we experienced any location not wanting to refund us back our deposit. The resort is being inflexible & clearly must be hurting for money. For all the travelers out there, be very aware of this location and how they operate their "business". We rented one of their cabins, the Sequoia. We absolutely loved it. This might've been one of the best cabins we've ever stayed in. The cabin was very clean. It was super spacious. We were able to spread out all our stuff nicely. The kitchen has great appliances, but only comes with basics. No spices, foil, plastic wrap, etc. The beds and couches were super comfy and the bathroom was very nice. The grounds were very peaceful. We were here in summer and we enjoyed being outside a lot. It is also super close to the entrance of Mt. Rainier national park. It made getting there bright and early fairly easy (and getting back at the end of the day). The main downside was that the hot tube was not working when we were here. It didn't ruin our experience, but we did pack our swimsuits. We were looking forward to using it after hiking all day at Mt. Rainier. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would love to come back. read more

Arriving at Mounthaven was a breath of fresh air. The immediate smell of pine trees welcomed us to our home for the next couple of nights. The process for checking in was incredibly easy and fast. We had the keys to our cabin in less than 5 minutes. We even arrived 30 minutes before check in time! The gal that checked us in was so incredibly nice and informed us the office would be closed due to a private event but gave us a number to call if we needed any help. When we stepped into the cabin it was very apparent they took extra care to make sure the cabin was clean and put together. It was very convenient that we got to park right next to the cabin. Mount Rainer is literally .5 miles from this property! I've never stayed that close to a national park for the rates they charge. Although the cabins do not have air conditioning they left a fan for us. A/C is not necessary due to the tree coverage and the dropping temperatures at night during the summer. Stayed here over Christmas weekend last year. 3 nights total. The Good- Quiet and peaceful right at the edge of Rainier National Park entrance. Beautiful location. Reasonable prices and freindly caretakers/owners. Father & son out early in the AM plowing. Nice place to relax with the family. Right outside Ashford proper. On a lot of acres with winding creeks and trailes throughout. The Bad- Not a lot of creature comforts you might expect, no huge linen closet with extra blankets or pillows, no overflowing spice cabinet or leftover condiments from other guests. Was asked to leave the water running and open the cabinet doors under sinks. I get it, but tough to keep doing multiple nights with little ones who like to poke around. The Ugly- Some random wrappers and trash under the couch and guest bed. Got warned that they lose power sometimes. The 1st night was it out for 4 hours. The next night, 6, and the last was out from 7pm-6am. Very inconvienent if you have little kids with sound machines, (we had 2). Also not great in the winter with the cold. I had a fire stoked at 10 and by 3am it was death cold. Probably not good in the event you need anything to stay plugged in (an older person or someone with oxygen, etc.) The Skinny- I would come back more prepared for the power/heat situation. Little stuff, but good to know and be prepared for if you plan to travel here; especially if you have little kids. read more

We stayed in the Fir cabin which they claim is their most "unique" cabin. First of all the photos make it look SO much better than the reality. We booked three nights and left after the second night. Reasons: - General cleanliness: The cabin was dirty, dusty, had a broken window. - Entire place smelled very strongly of propane - we went to the office to voice our concerns; we were told it was normal but they offered to come check the connections. We asked that they do that. She came over, said all of the connections were secure and not to worry. Hmmm. We left windows and front door open the entire time as the smell was so strong. - Bathroom was updated which was a plus, but there was pink slime/mold around the caulking inside Would not take a shower in that pink slime without flip flops on. AND they left about 6 bottles of USED shampoo (all half full) on the bathroom counter. When I am renting a place I want to see NO trace of previous guests - that shampoo thing really grossed me out. - Living area: Carpets were disgusting. After the second time I stepped on something "sticky" on the carpet the first night, I kept my flip flops on. Cobwebs all over the inside of the one dinky lamp in the "living" area. Ceiling fan was missing a light bulb. - Both "bedrooms" are accessible via two different "ladders" one is curved and really hard to maneuver coming down plus there are no handrails to keep you from falling should you lose your balance on that horrible curved monstrosity! - We knew about the loft situation going in. However, you couldn't stand up fully on either side. So once you got up in the "loft" as they call it, you had to bend way over or crawl into the beds. I'm 5'6" and hit my head on the ceiling more times than I wish to count. And speaking of beds, the twin beds in the second "loft" area were so bad you could feel the springs poking you in the back. - I have no photos to post of this cabin. We tried to spend as much time outside of the cabin as we could, due to the smell and the general lack of cleanliness. - After 2 nights of no sleep, we cut our losses (paid for 3 and aren't asking for a refund), and left. The grounds are ok and have some charm, and maybe ok for people staying in RVs or a different cabin. But in our experience, STAY AWAY/BUYER BEWARE of the Fir cabin. read more

To Whoever Own This Place, The lady who checked us in had a bad attitude which she claims she is the owner! Super rude while speaking to us when in fact we were just asking a question! The owner (Zandy Balls) was very unfriendly and rude. We requested to be together NICELY, but before we even finished our statement, and we ask why its not a possibility to just be together (since there are 3 sites available that can fit us and very wide) she said"Because I said so" and "because I am the Owner", which was not a valid reason. She mentioned we are on top of leach field, but as an engineer I saw the leach field farther from our site! Being the owner of the property she should be a people person, but she is very very rude. Will not recommend this place at all!!!! If there is a Zero star, this owner deserves to get this 0 recommendation. We've been here for 3 days! We found this place on Airbnb, and came for a family weekend in November. The cabin we rented was perfect for our needs, spotlessly clean, and the whole surrounding area was well cared for. Checkin was very efficient and smooth, with the office staff being very friendly. Checkout was similar. A nice perk was getting a bundle of wood for each night, but they did burn fast. We had to buy extra and had to ask for matches, but it was convenient and easy to do so. The location next to Mt Rainier is ideal and makes enjoying the park very easy. Truly, this is a great place to stay. Our family intends to return!! read more

By We booked Mounthaven Resort over Memorial Day weekend with a big group. I love that they offer cabins and RV spots and have real bathrooms and showers! There are great amenities for kids and we all had a blast. Best part was the service. Somehow, when we went to leave, we ended up getting our travel trailer completely stuck, jackknifed the truck and trailer around a tree. The owners went above and beyond and within an hour had us on the road headed home. If they hadn't been there and so well equipped, we'd have spent well over $1000 having to get our trailer removed and likely ended up with damage. Stayed here with friends the first weekend of October. We lived in the Pine cabin so can't talk about the rv sites. The cabin in itself was really pretty. Not too big but just bug enough for us and it was really cozy. They had a full kitchen setup however microwave was not there but we just used the oven and didn't mind that. The cabin was opposite maple but through the night or the day we didn't feel like we were disturbed by the traffic. It was quiet and then there were these lovely chairs and firepit outside the cabin too. Firewood and kindling kit was provided by the management and we used that but inside the house we couldn't really get the fireplace to work. However there was heating in the rooms and we just turned that on. The bedrooms were tiny but they were clean and we really like the cosy feeling. The owners live onsite and in the office they have a good stock of card games board games, jumble pieces etc. That you can loan to play with. There were these small touches to various cabins and the office area that really made it stand out. We didn't run into any issues and the owner was kind to extend 2 hours late check out with no extra charges. So there was nothing to complain and its proximity to the nisqually entrance to mt rainier was also welcome. I am removing one star simply because I could not get the wifi to work and the owner didn't mention where we could find wi fi signal in the area. My atnt and verizon were dead which is not their fault but they said there was wifi so at least they could do a better job of getting a good roaming router. But I was there for just a night and so I simply enjoyed not looking at light screens :) read more

The new owners are great and are doing a very nice job on renovations. We rented a two bedroom cabin and it is very cute. We recommend this place if you are coming to Mt. Rainer or staying in the area. The owners are the best, my friend and I had a challenge with the fire and at 8:00 pm James came over and help these two city girls out - what a great guy. Be cautious with this place. They will not refund your reservation if you have an emergency like your car breaks down on your trip and you have proof of it being serviced. They keep your credit card information in their records and will charge you the full amount. Their website says they have the discretion to refund you if they can rebook your reservation (but there is no actual way to prove this since their reservations are not online) so they get paid twice for a reservation. They have no common decency, courtesy, or respect for their guests. read more

What a slice of heaven. The owner greeted us and they helped us back into our space. The park is small and secluded and beautifully rustic yet well maintained and very clean. This is my favorite RV park and if you don't like camping they have lovely cabins for rent. Just loving it here. Positives: Clean Lodge. Renovated Negatives: Couple that owns it doesn't get hospitality. Will tell you that you have to wash your dishes when you leave. But don't have to strip down linens etc. (thank god for that!). The lady Scolded me couple of times. Once for overspeeding and told me I would kill her dogs. I was at 5 mph. No dogs in sight. This. Place. Is. Adorable. We stayed in the Maple Cabin-plenty of room for our family of four. So nice to have a kitchen, and the adorable wood burning stove was a big plus for the cold nights. Kept the whole place so toasty warm. Cabin is in good repair: couch, beds and linens were all nice and clean, kitchen was stocked with cooking gear, and they were even thoughtful enough to provide lanterns in the cabin in case of a power outage (which we had). So I guess be prepared for outages if you are visiting in the winter months-but that is pretty standard in any rural area that gets harsh weather so it didn't phase us. The resort provides an outside fire pit, picnic tables, chairs and bbq for each cabin as well. Maple cabin is right on a creek with adorable bridges spanning across to a bit of a meadow that the boys loved romping in. Within spitting distance of Mount Rainer, but a good ways from a real grocery store (About a 1/2 hr drive) so be prepared! All in all, it's a great place to stay and we had a blast. With all the other choices of lodging in the area, don't bother with this one. I was invited by my parents who had their own spot in the resort with their camper trailer. Me, my girlfriend, my brother and his fiance had a cabin to ourselves. We are between 23-29 years old. The first night we were told by the owner to "quiet down because some new people were about to show up at a cabin about 100 feet away, so (we) should go inside" at 8:00pm when sitting around a campfire in the summer evening daylight listening to soft music and talking, which was odd. The second night we were told that all six of us could not congregate in or near our cabin because it was too small. We thought the guy was joking and invited our parents over for a bratwurst dinner and looked at pictures on the laptop of the day's hiking excursion. When my parents left to go back to their trailer, the owner confronted them and started on a tirade about how we "broke (his) trust" and that how he knows we "are all friends and all but the cabin is too small for six people to be partying in." Keep in mind this was listed as a four man cabin and this bizarre diatribe was going on around 7:45pm. Just six of us sitting around in a dark room flipping through photos and eating bratwurst. My parents stayed behind, my dad angry and my mom near tears as we packed up our stuff, cleaned the cabin and got the heck out of there. The next day my dad confronted the owner, who defended his position and added that everyone thinks he's crazy because he does that all the time. Stay classy, I guess. I would not recommend this place to anyone but my worst enemy. read more

Absolutely loved this place. We stayed in the spruce cabin which is perfect for a little couples getaway. They provide all the materials to make a fire in the little fireplace. It has a microwave, toaster, mini fridge, coffee maker, and sink in the little kitchen area. After being there all of 5 minutes we locked our keys in the cabin... and the very nice lady at the front did not seem inconvenienced at all which was nice! It was a great spot, close to the my rainier entrance and near a few good restaurants. Bed was a little stiff but we still slept well. Highly recommend! read more

We stayed here a couple days to explore Mt Rainier. We loved it. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. There was an awesome trail at the back of the park that takes you into this beautiful flower filled meadow. There was a family of deer that came to the campground and were fed by the caretaker. The kids were able to walk fairly close without spooking them. The traffic on the HWY isn't really bothersome. We had the RV site closest to the road and noise wasn't an issue at all. Earlier reviewers stated the owners weren't friendly. Our interactions with them were just fine. The owners were very friendly and helpful when we were getting ready to leave and needed directions. Perhaps they don't like a bunch of noise. Maybe they want to preserve the tranquility - I don't think that is bad. Our children were playing with kids from another site and were never told to be quiet. Another review stated there was nothing to do here....well that is the beauty of it. No movie theaters, no department stores, no unnecessary distractions. The grounds are so beautiful; ferns, wildflowers, and deer everywhere. Mt. Rainier hiking is just up the road. No need for city distractions!! Guess it depends on the experience you are looking for - but for our family it was PERFECT!! I would totally recommend this place for anyone who loves nature and exploring. Unfortunately Mt. Rainier didn't fit in this year's vacation plan...if it did we would DEFINITELY be staying here. read more

Our family and our friends each stayed in RV sites (10 & 11) for the weekend. We thought the camp was beautiful and very close to the Nisqually entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. We saw deer roaming the camp which was fun. Staff was friendly, and facilities were mostly clean. My only real complaint is that they let the only bathroom run completely out of toilet paper. When they were told of the issue, they immediately corrected it, but never emptied the trash can or filled the soap bottle, the entire weekend. Also note that there is no cell service near the mountain and the wifi only works either in the restroom building or directly outside. read more

This 'resort' is in a beautiful location, but for a trailer camper who likes at least a bit of privacy it is a nightmare. The owners have squeezed the maximum number of hook-ups into a small treeless space. We are so close there's not even enough room to fully extend our awning. Never again!!! read more

Our stay at Mount Haven was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the proximity to the park and all Mount Rainer has to offer. Being a clean freak I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and updates to our cabin in Hemlock; to me this showed a true attention to detail and high level of ownership. After a long day of hiking we enjoyed hot showers, a warm fire place and the amenities Mount Haven has to offer. A wonderful place to stay as we celebrate our engagement. Favorite things: 1. Eating breakfast with Deer on the front porch 2. Having firewood delivered by the sweetest kid to our porch! Talk about curbside service!! 3. Mounthaven was the perfect place to unwind this week. I took my RV out for a four night stay and was very pleased. All the RV sites are nestled in the trees and have full hookups, fire pits and are very spacious. If you forget to bring wood they have bundles for purchase and they will even deliver them to your site via golf cart so you don't have to lug them across camp. The shower and laundry facilities are amongst the cleanest I have ever used. The shower comes complete with water pressure and hot water. This is important to mention especially if you have stayed at other campgrounds. Joan and Craig, the owners, where very nice, accommodating and helpful. Like the name suggests, this resort really is a heaven of its own kind. We came as a group: 6 mountaineer climbing Rainier, arriving past 3 am on a Saturday morning. The owner Joan came to check on us upon our arrival to make sure things are alright. We stayed at Sequoia cabin which accommodates 6: 1 queen bed by the dinning room, 4 beds upstairs with 2 twins and 2 fulls. The beds are comfortable. The rooms were spotless. There was plenty space to sort gear and hang things dry. The fireplace was in great working condition. Shower was hot. Best of all, it was quiet so everyone gets a good night sleep. Everything worked. We returned to Mounthaven several days later after descending from Rainier, without reservation. Again, Craig and Joan opened their arms to our group of grim-covered smelly mountaineers and accommodated us. They loaned us a grill so we could BBQ on the porch. While waiting for the rooms to be cleaned - they were booked to the T and got right down to cleaning while we enjoyed ourselves with the sighting of a pack of stags & fawns strolling the ground, humming birds, stellar Jays, and an old raggidy cat named "Rags." There is wifi by the office. Connectivity is consistent. Since I've read the review of others and aware of the noise intolerance, we checked with Craig to make sure that the quiet hour is 10pm so not to disturb others. 8 of us - with 2 more friends visiting - dined and BBQ by the porch until 10am and packed up to return to the cabin for fireplace. In the morning the check out is 11am. Although the rate is on a pricey side in my opinion, I definitely recommend staying with Mounthaven and will return next time. read more

This is a very nice campground and cabins that are privately owned and right at the base of Mt Rainier, so it's very convenient. We brought our tent and at first I wasn't that happy with the tent space, but we found out our camp actually had more room then the sites within the park. We are from South Dakota and Nebraska so we are used to huge tent sites. The shower house was nice and convenient and even had Internet which was nice to get because no cell in the forests of Mt Rainier. It was quiet and family oriented there was wood that you could buy there for your fire ring. read more

I was not impressed. The location is beautiful, but there is absolutely nothing to do. The owner is unreasonably strict about keeping the grounds silent, so don't even consider sitting around a campfire with friends or family, even when it is still light out. He pretty much expects you in bed, lights out at 8pm. There were mice scurrying around our cabin all night, as well as scratching in the walls. It was impossible to sleep. The rooms are tiny, but the price is right. read more

The new owners are more concerned with nickel and diming guests to death than looking at the big picture. They walk over a dollar to pick up a dime so to speak. As a small business owner myself, I understand the need to collect revenue as much as possible, but you must balance that with some common sense. We called and tried to book an RV spot in the winter. They never returned numerous voice mails and we finally caught them late at night the day before we expected to arrive. They explained they had plenty of RV spots left. Unfortunately the day of arrival, we got stuck as the I-90 pass over the mountains was closed for most of the day because of a vehicular homicide, which was well covered by the local news. Not surprisingly, we couldn't get them on the phone to cancel our reservation. Guess what? They charged our credit card, which we never provided them for two nights anyway. My problem: how did they charge our credit card? We never provided it to them. Ah, we had stayed in one of their cabins two years ago and they evidently kept that credit card on file, which is illegal. They never emailed us or stated anything to us - nope, just thought it was totally appropriate to charge a credit card we had used with them two years previous. Totally inappropriate and illegal to keep one's credit card written down like that. read more

We spent two nights at Mounthaven Resort in a full-hookup RV spot. We were in spot 13, which was shaded by lovely, large trees. The owners were friendly and informative, and the facilities appeared well taken care of. There's a communal building with two bathrooms (with showers) and a washer/dryer. The bathrooms were simple but clean. There's an area for kids to play on swings and a teeter-totter. We would stay here again- it was quiet, family-friendly, and VERY close to the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. read more

We spent 3 nights here. Great woodsy setting, clean cabin, great fire pit. Only complaint was WIFI worked less than half the time. Bummer when we tried to find weather forecasts or refine our trip planning as there is no cell service or data access in this area either. I even sat next to the router, no luck. we stayed here in our 32 foot RV the middle of October when most of the crowd had dissipated. We truly felt we had become part of the ancient forest which surrounded this park. The deer accepted us as well. Of course there is no TV and my verizon wi fi did not work...but they do have chairs on the porch of the office where one can get connection. This place was exactly what we were looking for--a quiet, cozy wilderness getaway. The owners were great; they checked in with us daily and resupplied our stocks of firewood, coffe, etc. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area including snowshoe trails in Mt. Rainier park. The location is great--just outside the Nisqually park entrance and convenient for getting to a number of lovely sights and trails within the park. Like I said we were there for snowshoeing. We stayed in the Birch cabin and enjoyed warm wood fires, peaceful nights sleep, a deer sighting, and no cell phone service or TV which was great! :) The cabin was well stocked with utensils, plates, cooking supplies, etc and we brought some groceries and pre-made meals to re heat which worked well for our needs. The grounds were relatively quiet since its wintertime, but we thought this was the ideal type of place to stay for this time of year; cozy, quaint little private cabins. Definitely a nice departure from the city (we live in Redmond/Bellevue) for a good price, a comfortable driving distance, and good atmosphere. read more

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had at a "resort" my boyfriend and I were staying here in a tent site while my parents were in their rv paying 45$ a night and the entire time they didn't have any power when it was 90 degrees and very humid the only thing running was the ac and after a couple minutes the powers back off again after struggling with this for hours and trying to talk to the park owners with no help they decided to leave the next day as did we ... We had the smallest tent site with no water and it cost us $30 definitely not worth it they say they have wifi which does not work at all and to top it off they have only one bathroom for the whole place !! So if you find yourself looking for a great camping spot keep driving because if you stop here like we did and find yourself needing to look up another spot there will be no phone reception no wifi and no working phone. read more
