Recently stayed here with my family while visiting Mount Rainier. I would recommend this property for anyone doing the same. It's very close to the park entrance. The communication from the hotel from booking to checkin was on point. We reached late in the evening and were able to find the room keys in an envelope with my name on it. It had all the information and instructions related to the room and hotel. The room was clean and was as described. Also, the room had more than enough supplies (towels, shampoo, blankets, pillows etc). The area around the hotel is also good. There is a fish pond near the rooms. One of the managers saw my kids watching the fish and generously offered some fish food for them to feed the fish. Will definitely stay here again if back in the area. read more

Nice place, older feel to it. No major complaints, the beds were very comfortable, the workers were friendly. Breakfast was delivered the night before because people leave quite early to head to the mountain, that was nice. I loved the old timey feel of the place, room was nice but a bit out dated, of course, nothing fancy. Room was a bit on the smaller side but not horrible, the only real issue was the WiFi was constantly cutting in and out which was a bit frustrating, but overall, not a bad stay. The overall aesthetic of place was excellent, just a beautiful place to stay. The first impression just from looking at it on the outside says everything. The pond is gorgeous as well, it adds to an amazing look of the whole place. Not to mention its vicinity to Mt. Rainier. read more

This place deserves 5 stars just based on how beautiful and aesthetic it is, but when you add how friendly, kind and thoughtful the staff it takes it to 10 stars. We drove by the place and the looks of it were enough to make us stop, once we stepped in we were greeted by Jared, such a friendly and courteous person. He allowed to use the place to also take our engagement pictures, he recommended what places photograph best, and when it started raining he even gave us his personal umbrella. The rooms are nice, cozy and so beautiful. The pond along with the green areas are beyond gorgeous. I will for sure be coming back and recommending this place to all my friends, family and anyone I know! Alexander's Lodge won our hearts, our new favorite spot in the PNW! Great place to stay that is very close to Mt Rainier national park entrance. This was exactly what I would expect for a small mountain town and had great historic charm. In-room fridge and AC that worked great. WiFi worked well and as I mentioned before close proximity to the park which was great for getting up early to start hiking and quick to wind down for the evening to shower and sleep. read more

Well, after my initial review not much has changed. We are still stuck for paying for a room that we did not stay in. We did ask for another room, but they told it it would take 2 days for that to happen,they were serious. So we left. They should reimburse us for the first night also. The response from management was bugs are part of life, and we put a bug catcher in the room. Seriously? They said the found 2 bugs on the counter the next day. Well, I have pictures of every wall, ceiling, floor and counter top with dozens of insects, bugs on each of them. We stayed at what they called the Emerald room. Maybe the rest of the lodge is different, but I would not recommend anything here except the location. read more

A very nice and especially historic hotel just outside the ranier park entrance. The place is kind of quirky but it's super clean, very quiet and the rooms have lots of amenities (coffee, breakfast, Wi-Fi). The best is the service. Location, location, location. You can't beat the proximity to Mount Rainier National Park. We stayed one night in the Emerald Room which is located in one of the buildings off the main property building with its own parking lot. We were a later check-in around 7:30 pm but Summer the property manager intercepted us in the parking lot to get us our key and instruct us where to go. Check in information had been sent in advance via email, as had the opportunity to order breakfast items. The room itself had all of the essentials - fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, limited toiletries. The stand up shower was hot with good pressure and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The WiFi worked perfectly as well. There was a sitting couch which was good for laying out luggage, clothes, etc. A dresser with drawers occupied the entire closet so there was no place to hang coats. There was an old school thermostat with a dial to turn to regulate the heat but also hard to regulate so it got super hot in the room. I didn't think anyone still owned or played DVD's so having a player and basket of movie options added a nostalgic touch. There are a few restaurant options nearby within a 5 minute drive so we ended up not consuming the breakfast items that were provided, but it was nice to have the option in the unfortunate event that we weren't able to get there before 8 pm when most establishments close. Overall this is a charming inn that suited our needs and as long as you're not expecting luxury you will enjoy your stay here as well. read more

*We stayed Sept. 8th at Alexander's Lodge, Room 10. The parlor had no A/C so could not enjoy the space, the vending machine was out of order so no water for coffee machine in room, and there was no ice dispenser. The gift shop was not open when we came by at 2 pm. *Upon entering our room, there was a very strong odor present which was beyond musty, more like cat urine on carpet. The carpet was filthy (see pics.). There was an in-window A/C unit which loudly ran all night long. *Our breakfast was chosen on-line before our stay with sad choices - our choice of 3 items only were an apple, muffin and OJ. It was sad as they printed a paragraph on how "we are proud to be the only Lodging facility on this side of the mountain that is offering a complimentary breakfast." It was to be placed pre-wrapped, and on floor outside door in a basket between 7:30-8 am. Looking at our filthy room, no thank you to the food placed on floor. *Our stay was far below the expectations of what I perceived a $300 room should be. And why were there 2 deadbolts and a safety latch on our room door? (See pic.). read more

My fiance and I stayed in the Paradise Yurt for two nights recently. I stumbled upon Alexander's mainly because most others were fully booked and we made our reservation a week before and I'm feel like we got really lucky. Prices were very good compared to Yurt glamping where we live. Our yurt was about 30-40 yards into the forest next to one other yurt but far enough away you can't see them and I didn't ever hear our neighbors either. It comes with a bed, chair, small bed tables, an electric blanket (which was quite clutch for my lady), electricity with several plugs and also wifi (no tv but that's appropriate imo). There's also a picnic table outside which we hung out at as well as a small manmade waterfall and very small pond on the walk in front the parking lot. You have two bathrooms you share with the other yurt but they are at the hotel which is far but was not an issue for us. They offer free breakfast which was a microwave breakfast sandwich, trail mix and a mix of different muffins and things to choose from and also a table inside or by the pond to enjoy your coffee at breakfast at. Everyone was masked every time we went inside which is always a plus. I really enjoyed the serenity of our stay and it was the perfect compliment to hiking at Mt Rainier state park which is only a 3-4 minute drive away. Would definitely recommend! There aren't many options to choose from if you want to stay a night at Mt Rainier, but I'd rather find somewhere farther than staying here if I could choose again. First impression was that the room was smelly. The beddings were not felt clean. Most ridiculously, there isn't a vent, a window, or any kind of air outlets in the bathroom. The only way the odor could go would be into the room itself. The AC was incredibly noisy even at low fan speed. We didn't have to use the heater, but if you do, a small heater is located at a corner of the room so the heating would be very uneven. Highly unrecommended. read more

We always love staying at Alexander's (we were married here 9 years ago) and decided to bring our young kids back for a visit (ages 3 and 6 years) last weekend. We had a wonderful stay - low season is a great time to go with the littles! Stayed in Room #18, which was very comfortable for the 4 for us with easy access to the parlor. Husband & I were able to have time to ourselves playing chess & sharing coffee in the Parlor while the girls napped nearby. Had wonderful & welcoming hospitality from Summer. All around, really terrific mini-weekend vacation. My only critique is about the closure of the restaurant. The restaurant was so delicious and we were really looking forward to sharing that with our girls! Not to mention the convenience of being able to walk downstairs & enjoy a meal together. We were able to find other meal options - at the Longmire Lodge, Cooper Creek, and driving into Eatonville, but those really weren't convenient or ideal for a family with young kids (or nearly as delicious as Alexander's restaurant was). Normally an on-site restaurant wouldn't be a requirement for me choosing a place to stay, but for a winter vacation when it is cold, gets dark early, and in an area with lower food options all around, I really hope they bring this amenity back. Wonderful experience. Last minute hiking trip for my daughters birthday. We arrived late and they accommodated us. Our late arrival made it difficult to plan for our breakfast and again they accommodated us. Rooms are beautifully individually decorated and incredibly comfortable. Lovely common and outdoors we look forward to enjoying on our next visit. Our family travels a lot through the summer months we usually choosing to stay in a chain hotel. Alexander's Lodge has converted me. I will now choose the hotels with character. Not sure I could go back the stagnate box boring rooms of the chain hotel. The next time we are in the area we will again be choosing Alexander's Lodge. read more

I am not sure why the reviews for this Lodge is rated 4 stars. Like most travelers I relied on reviews to help me decide. This is my experience: The pro- Definitely closest to the Southwest/Nisqually entrance via SR 706 to Longmire and Paradise areas of Mt. Rainier National Park. The cons- Upon entering the lobby it was not air conditioned and smelled heavy with pine sol cleaning solution. As you walk up the stairs to the room, it smells moldy. The room is small The AC inside the room poorly position, no option for air flow or level of adjustment . My children were cold during the night. Bugs and spiders in the room. We had to kill a few spiders upon checking in. In the morning there were black little bugs near the sink. I can't comment on customer service because I didn't get to interact with anyone during the check in/checkout process (management practiced strict social distancing due to covid19). Considering the pros and cons, this lodge is over priced and not worth the money! We paid $216 for one night stay. Maybe management could consider some upgrades to make it better or lower the price. read more

I absolutely loved my trip to Alexander's lodge! Great location for a day or two of exploring 'The Park' and close to the Wild Berry Restaurant to fuel up or enjoy a drink on the patio. The hotel itself has so much history and an 'old world' feeling from it, a refreshing experience from the boring modern chains - staying here is an experience! It was so quiet and peaceful. The parlor area is great for families to enjoy or grab a movie to watch in the room. The pond and waterfall also adds to the quaint and charming experience. Stay in room 12 for a cute little private patio to enjoy your morning coffee and relax by the sounds of the waterwheel (great reading spot!) The free breakfast is a nice touch. My only constructive criticism would be to have a properly marked dumpster where guests can drop off their trash as housekeeping is limited during COVID. hope to be back!!!! read more

Stayed 4th July weekend due to a wedding in the area. Chose this Inn based on a meal we had there last October (which was super!), The room (no.4) was large,old but had modern features in the bath etc. Very "New England-y" . Super clean throughout the Inn. The bed and sitting area were comfortable. The common area down the stairs had coffee, TV and lots of family board games. They recently put in room a/c which was a life saver in 90+ degree temps. The breakie had 3 or 4 menu choices plus a couple specials. More than a most B&B's. It was all fresh, not off a steam table. I understand breakfast is only available to the Inn's guests, by the way. This is a great location for our hike in the national park the day after the wedding. The Paradise parking lot is just a half mile up the mountain. read more

We booked this place for a weekend trip in Mt. Rainier, and we're so glad we did. The staff (particularly Summer) was very accommodating and inviting. We were personally shown to our room by Summer and given a brief history of the lodge! The establishment itself was updated with modern essentials (TV, wifi, small kitchen appliances, etc.), but also had a charming aesthetic. Our stay was very pleasant, and we'll certainly make another visit here when we come back to Mt. Rainier! read more

It was a unique experience in an older building with modern touches in the room like the Google speaker, USB ports charging station, and TV. The bed was extremely comfy and the room clean. A little small, but we weren't there for very long anyways. (disclaimer: I did not have to pay for my room. I won a contest that included 2 night's stay at this Inn). The trout pond is peaceful and there was an osprey that flew overhead each morning and afternoon. The bed was very, very uncomfortable. The room was very quiet and very small. There were only 4 other couples staying at the inn... I don't know if it is normally this quiet. The water pressure in the bathroom was very good. The Inn provides snow shoes and getting to Paradise was about a 30-40 minute drive. The view from the hotel is of the surrounding foothills of Mt. Rainier but not of the mountain itself. The media room and hot tub are nice amenities. The Dish TV has every channel you could want! The hot tub faces the trout pond and is perfect after a long day exploring Mt. Rainier. The phone call to make the reservation was awkward. A couple of conversations with the people that work there were awkward. It definitely isn't a warm and friendly staff.... but they left us alone and that was fine. I think new management and new beds would go a long way to making this a 5-star place. read more

BEWARE to whom you're giving your money to : UNSCRUPULOUS HOTELIERS. After being in an accident that destroyed our car and nearly KILLED us 36 hours before our vacation, my husband (a disabled veteran if that matters) and I had to cancel my birthday trip to Washington State. We called the hotel where we were to spend two nights a few days later, to ask if they could cancel our reservation and not charge us given the exceptional situation in which we found ourselves. The rude employee who answered us (probably employees Donna or Summer) was amazingly COLD and didn't want to even hear about our accident. She said, "The owners won't offer a refund, they don't even want to hear about it. It's peak season". We even offered to send the police report to prove our good faith and show that we are simply the victim of a painful ordeal. Her only solution was to tell us to sell the 2 nights on CRAIGSLIST! We'd have better chances playing the lottery. They will not cancel the reservation FOR ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, but they could change the name of the reservation. So, if we summarize, we were the victims of a road accident where we almost died, where our car was destroyed, without the possibility of having a car rental because no vehicle was available, and her ONLY OFFER was to sell hotel nights to people on Craigslist like we were not busy dealing with insurance etc.!!!! How can you behave so cold and CRUEL to someone? We asked to speak to a manager, she said "no". We asked to have the owners consider our circumstance and the employee did not even want to report the information to her superior, saying that it would be "USELESS". It is already a hotel that has a rather extravagant price considering that there is not a plethora of accommodations in the area and takes advantage of it (400 dollars for two nights with a bathroom outside of the room), but in addition has no humanity for its customers. We are ASTOUNDED at the lack of compassion this hotel had for us as guests. Be careful who your'e giving your money to. They don't care about you, just your money. read more

Can't be in a better location to Mt. Rainier unless you stayed in the park itself! Alexander's Lodge is just a short 5 minute drive from the park entrance. We stayed in the Tower Suite and it was a two-floor Victorian style room. The bathroom and living area was downstairs while the bedroom was upstairs. The bed was surprisingly comfy. The ladder was a bit steep, so watch your step. Some features and decor at the lodge felt dated, but it is a 100 year old lodge. The cleaning folks were nice but not super thorough. The hot tub facing the trout pond deserves an A+! It was a great way to relax after a hike while still enjoying the natural scenery. They ran out of towels for the hot tub when we went and said there were none available until they could do laundry again. That was a little inconvenient, but it was fine. Overall, it was a great place to stay! Close to the park, nice trout pond and Wi-fi!! Having internet was great because we could share all our amazing hiking pictures! read more

My husband and I decided to get married here and it was a great decision. The service was great - from the friendly front desk associates to the housekeepers - we always felt taken care of. We stayed in the Upper Tower Suite which is a super cool room. You do have to climb a steep set of stairs to get to the bed upstairs but it is worth it. The property is an old, Victorian boarding house so obviously this is not like staying at the Westin, but if you love old charm, you will love this place. The owner, Kavitha, was on top of everything. We knew all of the costs ahead of time and didn't have any surprise expenses at check out. Our rental included all 16 of the rooms inside of the lodge (not including the yurt, the budget basement or the rental houses) for the night, use of the parlor (which we decorated as well) and continental breakfast in the AM. It was extremely reasonably priced for what we got. You will not find that anywhere else for the price. read more

The attentive staff here warrants a 5 star review in itself but let me start from the beginning. Last night 4/19 my family and I attempted to reserve a cabin at Three Bears Lodge 2 miles up the road from Alexander's Lodge however the next morning 4/20 (our reservation was for 4pm) after 18 unanswered phone calls and 3 messages and 1 email I never got our reservation confirmed by Three Bears. Upon looking for another place to stay for one night before we hiked the mountain on friday 4/21 I came across this little gem with great reviews on the trusty Yelp platform. I called at 1:00 and spoke with Kavitha and let her know which room I wanted after researching them on their user friendly website. The website also offered electronic self reservation but from my fail 15 hours earlier I did not want to chance it again so I decided to call for the room. She was very friendly and efficient and they don't have a strict check-in time. Which is great because I made the reservation at 1:00 and come from Tacoma with two children in tow so keeping appointment times are rarely realistic for us. I digress - so when we finally arrived nearly 2 hours later we drove upon a beautiful, vintage, rustic manor that was very welcoming. Also not far from the town store and great eatery. We were greeted by a very attentive and friendly sir at the front desk which also doubles as a little gift shop we fun and fundamental gifts and takeaways. Natural deodrant and extra large wooden bowls and utensils weird and impractical but super cool. Yummy honey sticks and packs of mocha and hot chocolate mix that was enjoyed by us. As well as a variety of wines to purchase for consumption. We were led upstairs to our Family Room directly across the wonderful common room. Aesthetically pleasing warm and inviting. With a slew of games and DVDs to choose from. Not to mention and honor systemed snack bar with an array of goodies : Coca cola and sprite, bottled water, mini Ben and Jerrys! Cookies and chips. AMAZING! And what a system. Our room had a king bed, pull out bed sofa, private bathroom and shower, extra linens, a microwave and mini fridge. Wifi and other accomodations! The icing on the cake here really was the wonderful service. It was after 10pm our night here and my husband really wanted another bottle of wine rather than call because I didn't want to be annoying and bother them I sent an email and let them know it wasn't an emergency but I was wondering if our room could get another bottle of wine. I know that was going above and beyond and the same fella that checked us in tapped on the door and let us know he got our request. He really is what serves this 5 star review. This morning I couldn't even get a 5star yelp rated lodge to return my over excessive 18 phone calls and we found this lodge that went far above and beyond to be accommodating. I would definitely recommend. Rooms were clean. Seriously there wasn't even dust behind the TV. The bed was super comfortable. The prices are competitive if not low compared to other stays in the area. We can't wait to eat at the complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning ! Photos to follow!!!! read more

I've been visiting these parts for the past 10 years and have come into Alexander's Inn now Alexander's Lodge usually for dinners and the gift shop. However, I thought I would stay for the first time this past weekend. I thought this place had changed ownership given the change in name. Upon arrival, I noticed a stand outside offering people the choice to "Express Check-in and Check-out" which I thought cheapened the place. My impression of Alexander's Inn over the years was an upscale country inn with a personal touch and a warm welcome. People have written about the "disengaged" lady at the reception - yeah I met her as well. I did not get a warm welcome but rather, she looked at me without breaking a smile (please don't event bother lady) and when I told her I was checking in she took a moment to put down whatever she was working on her phone before she helped me. Oh well...to the rooms well, this is what I have to say. The pictures on their website are dated because this place has seen better days. For $120 I have stayed at nicer outfits that AL - the bed cover was synthetic and cheap, the bathroom was just old and the pedestal was stained. Onward to dinner, I was looking forward to it as I've had good experience dining here previously. Oh no, not this time. The lady from the front served me. Upon sitting down, there were glasses lined up upside down as well as coffee mugs like they're waiting to serve breakfast at a diner. The menu was way pared down and I asked about the NY Strip which I was told "we're out of the steak" and so I went to the salmon to which the lady said "we're out of the salmon". So I ordered the Fish & Chips from the kids menu - 3 small pieces of heavily battered fish (very thin fish) in a basket with some fries cost me $15! What? Not once did the lady come back to see how I was doing, no top up on the water. There used to be such a lovely atmosphere at this place and I've dined here in March, October, December and June - so some peak times and some off seasons. They were all good. They had wait staff, they had candles on the tables, I even remember they had table cloths? It was an upscale dining experience versus a Denny's... I felt sad because I felt the new owners have lost the original feel and vision that the previous owners had. The people working there don't care and this place seems so tacky and cheap now. The next day I had to dash off and had to wait for someone to appear at the reception, thank God it was someone different. She wasn't that much better but I just told her I was checking out. Here's the deal, you want to buy a hotel that is old you either have to know how to work with its charm or plough some money in to spruce it up versus taking it down to your level of cheapness. And please, oh please, hire some nice people so that your clients feel welcomed versus we're imposing on them by paying them $120.... read more

The bedroom was really nice, and the bed was comfy. The jacuzzi was relaxing and the view from the jacuzzi was picturesque! OMG! Fair warning! I paid $179 for 1 night in a room (#1) that was literally the smallest room I've ever stayed in my 63 years, and worth under $50/night. It was less than 9' wide and maybe 12' long (but there was a chair, A/C unit and a table for the tv to sit on that took much of the room beyond the 5 or so feet beyond the bed). You couldn't hardly open the door into the Armoire all the way which was next to the bed to hang your clothes and there was about 15-18" between each sides of the bed and the walls so you had to squeeze sideways to get into bed. The A/C unit was very loud even on the lowest setting, the TV was very small, you couldn't look out the windows which were frosted and you couldn't open the two to get fresh air, even in the bathroom. A glass shelf above the sink didn't allow you to get your face above the sink to rinse it. There was splashed coffee or something else on one wall not cleaned. As an FYI, the visitors in room 5 also wrote a horrible review in their in-house comment book just two comments above mine. I'm not going to argue with the positive reviews but most noted they stayed in the Tower room/suite or a normal size room. read more

Very nice, quiet, peaceful place! The housekeeping staff was very friendly. We saw only two, and I think they pretty much take care of the entire hotel, so it's always a very personal touch. The room had air conditioning and the entire hotel has wi-fi (especially important with the lack of cellular service in the area), and the bed was pretty comfy. In the common area there's also a library of movies you can take back into your room and just sit back and relax. Pretty much everything you could ever ask for in a resting place right next to Mount Rainier! read more

We've been coming to Rainier for years but have always stayed at another lodge down the road. We came here a couple weeks ago and stayed in their Forest House, and this time we came back and are staying in room 16 facing the pond in the back. Forest house is basically a rental house which would be great for large families or groups. It is a ranch house built in the 50's with both well-maintained original features and updates throughout. It was really comfortable and felt like home. The house backs up to the forest and is right outside the living room that you can enjoy through the big picture window. The room in the main building is clean and well maintained, and it is more comfortable than your standard hotel room. Having a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker were all really nice. The grounds are beautiful to walk around, and there's a trail out back through the woods that we will try tomorrow. The community "parlor" in the center of the building is a nice amenity. There is a nice sitting area if you want to get out of your room with various games, books, and DVDs you can take back to your room. There is a mini fridge as well stocked with soda/water and ice cream as well as some snacks on the side you can purchase on the honor system. Definitely nice if you have the munchies during the night! We also were able to get a bottle of wine chilled in a bucket from the front desk to bring back to the room. Service from the front desk and breakfast staff has been great both visits. Overall we've had two great visits and look forward to coming back again! read more

Do not expect a Marriott or anything close to that. This is a quaint, simple inn decorated like your grandmother's house, so check your city, modern-style hotel expectations at the door. Room: Good size. Queen size bed - many others have complained about the bed's comfort level. I had no problem sleeping, but it does squeak a lot with every turn. Small sitting area with 2 chairs and a closet. Bathroom with tub shower and toilet; sink is outside the bathroom. No air conditioning, but window has a fan. No TV. Clean. Price: Expensive, but I suppose the area is a tourist trap and this is one of the better hotels in town. Perks: -Free white wine served in VERY tiny glasses in the evening, generally 5-7pm. -Plenty of board games to entertain you in the evening -Large community room with sofas and TV -Hot tub overlooking trout pound (I didn't use it, so can't comment) -Friendly front desk staff -About a 10 minute drive and you are in the park -Nice front area with a watermill and bird feeders -You can order a "to-go lunch" to take hiking -Free wifi - a little slow, but they have it! I had no cell phone coverage though. Negatives: -Depends on what you want, there are no TVs in the rooms. Definitely helps you get to bed earlier. -Morning breakfast wasn't anything spectacular and there were not any items that you can take with you for a late morning hiking snack. -Slightly less friendly wait staff -Right along the main road, so can sometimes get a little loud In the future, I would probably try and stay at one of the places inside the park, but if they are unavailable, I would consider staying here again. read more

This is a beautiful cozy property. The woman who runs it, Kavitha, is either a scam artist, or just blatantly unethical in her business dealings. She used a bait and switch tactic on my fiancee and myself. We booked her entire lodge through VRBO (https://www.vrbo.com) for our wedding. They price guarantee and we found her rental as $1500 per day. With taxes it amounted to just over $1900. There were two rooms booked for our date, but we didn't see that as an issue. 6 beds off of the 61 wouldn't hurt us, and we were still willing to pay the full rate of the Lodge, even minus the two rooms. We paid for the lodge and she invited us to come look at the property. When we got there, we quickly started to see how she had misrepresented the property, which is advertised as sleeping 61 with a hot tub and a restaurant attached. The Lodge doesn't sleep 61. To hit the 61 mark, you have to rent her two out buildings, that she informed us would cost us more. Well, a couple hundred more dollars wasn't too bad. It was a little off-putting, but we pressed on. The suites are supposed to have beds for 3-4. What we found were very tiny rooms with a single, old, metal, poster bed and a pull out sofa couch that would sleep one to two people. We continued our walk around and found out she isn't allowed, under code enforcement, to let people in the hot tub even though it is advertised as available. We also find out that the restaurant isn't open, even though it says OPEN on the hotel marquee, and it is advertised with a menu on VRBO. We ended up convening in the closed dining area to talk details. She informs us that she may not have the restaurant open for business in July. She then tells us that if we will just let our reservation with VRBO lapse, she will write up a new contract that involves the two out buildings. I agreed as long as we were able to keep our base price that we had already agreed on, and we would just add the price of the two buildings on top, as well as keep the dates open for us while she drew up the rest of the contract. She agreed, shook our hand, and we left feeling not satisfied, but hopeful that it would work for what we needed. This was on a Friday Jan 6th, 2017. The following letter is what we received five days later on Wednesday Jan 11th: "Hello, Thanks for visiting us last week. I am sorry to inform you that we have at least 2 bookings for the weekend of July 15th at this point and want to check with you if there is any other day that will work for you. In terms of renting the lodge, For week days in summer the rental would be $3000 per day which includes stay for 63 guests and weekends would be $3500 per day. There would be an event fee of $300 per day. Please let me know if this would work. The fee to block a date at the lodge is $500. If you are able to choose any other week day we may be still able to make this work. Summer dates go really fast. Sorry about the inconvenience caused. Regards, Kavitha" That was a shocking jump in price of over 100%, and it felt like she was playing on our needs by stating "Summer dates go really fast." We went back to her VRBO page to reply and found that she had changed her listing from $1500/day to $3500/day. We decided to try to remind her of our original agreement and sent her back the following letter: "As this point, I would like to go with our original offer, which was put through VRBO, which I had already paid for, in full, on my credit card. What the ad said was sleeps [61], and that there is an onsite restaurant. I am willing to negotiate a little, but this is double what was originally offered. I do not care if we don't have the two rooms that are already rented. The dates are not movable. Donna Thompson and Dusty Dionn[e]" We waited and received a letter stating that she did not want to correspond anymore. We reported the event to VRBO who asked us to put in a review. We informed Kavitha that we had been suggested to do so, and when we returned to the page to leave our review, we found that either VRBO had removed every instance of Alexander's Lodge from their site due to TOS infractions, or Kavitha removed herself due to fear of our review going public. All in all, what we received was an unethical business deal, where the business owner offered things that were not available, pulled a bait and switch, price gouged us, and tried to avoid paying her listing company the fee they rightfully earned. We ended up finding another venue for our wedding. read more

We had the best weekend a Mom and Daughter can have. The staff here at Alexander's Lodge is very friendly. We enjoyed the character of the lodge, and the display of the history of the building. The conforting feeling made us feel at home. The surrounding grounds where beautiful with the pond and waterfall. Enjoyed the evening glass of wine before turning in. They even take a step above by providing us with a breakfast to start the day. I highly recommend Alexander's Lodge to all my friends. read more

We had a positive experience and wouldn't hesitate to return. We stayed in the budget queen room, and our bathroom was across the hall. The room itself was small, but we were there to see the park, so it didn't matter. They even had a card and chocolate bar to wish me a happy birthday, which was really nice and unexpected. The room was about $140 and nicer than a lot of other places that were booked over the holiday weekend. read more
