We had the best weekend a Mom and Daughter can have. The staff here at Alexander's Lodge is very friendly. We enjoyed the character of the lodge, and the display of the history of the building. The conforting feeling made us feel at home. The surrounding grounds where beautiful with the pond and waterfall. Enjoyed the evening glass of wine before turning in. They even take a step above by providing us with a breakfast to start the day. I highly recommend Alexander's Lodge to all my friends. read more

On the 10th of September we had our wedding at Alexander's and could not have been happier with the day. We did an outdoor ceremony and luncheon reception and it was wonderful. The trout pond and beautiful grounds made a perfect backdrop for both parts of our day and our photos. The food and service was excellent and the staff was extremely attentive to our needs and were very accommodating with issues like my father and grandmother's mobility issues. Aside from our wedding luncheon we have also eaten at the restaurant on two other occasions and the food is excellent with a very pleasant dining atmosphere. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to do a smallish wedding (ours was about 40 people and did not feel crowded) at an extremely reasonable price without a lot of worry. One of the things my bride and I both loved was that they take care of everything from food and beverages (two of our beer loving guests commented on their good selection), to cake, to flowers efficiently and beautifully without you having to call 20 different people. We provided our own cake (cupcakes actually) but with the quality of their florist and food I'm sure the baker they use for their wedding cakes is top notch as well. It is a little off the beaten but that is what appealed to us about it and you cannot get a setting nearly as beautiful anywhere close to a major city in my humble opinion. The only caution I would give that is not a reflection on Alexander's but on the area itself is that if you are looking to have people at your event that would wish to rent a room either there or anywhere else near remember that it is very near Mount Rainier so all lodging tends to fill up a bit in advance during the vacation season. read more

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay here. Being 6 months pregnant I was worried about being comfortable somewhere other than my home. I was so happy to find how relaxed I was there! We stayed in Room 2, overlooking the trout pond. Even though it rained our entire visit, it was so cozy to look out over the foggy hillside and hear the rain fall (sleeping with the windows open is a must!). Shannon was so kind and welcoming and made me feel like she would do anything to make my stay pleasant (even offered sparkling apple cider over the complimentary wine- so sweet!). Our dinner was delicious, as well as the complimentary breakfast (a GREAT value!). The small details around the Inn made it a wonderful stay. Even though the Inn was fully booked we hardly saw other guests, and it was very quiet. MAJOR BONUS: Maybe it's the pregnant lady in me talking, but those sheets were the most comfortable sheets I've ever slept on. I meant to ask what they were made from, but forgot. Guess I'll just have to go back and stay again sometime. Thank you Alexanders! It was a wonderful experience. read more

My friends and I stayed here on a Saturday night to go snowshoeing up at Rainier. It was a good deal and a very nice house with full kitchen and gas fireplace. Warm and cozy, hot showers, and access to a hot tub!! We were more than happy! We weren't so happy with the prices of the meals at their restaurant so we went down the street to eat. My boyfriend and I were a bit uncomfortable sleeping on the bed in the room that we had. They could stand to get better mattresses, but for the price we really have no place to complain. My boyfriend's back did hurt in the morning, but like I said...we had no real complaint. We had a great weekend. We would definitely go back to this place though. We were very happy with the whole experience! :) Check it out for yourself! :) read more

We just stayed two nights here out of a 3-night stay near Mt. Rainier - the Paradise Lodge is about a 40-minute drive away. In many ways, this place is excellent. There were a couple of minor glitches. We rented the affiliated house just up the road, and I suppose it would be exactly what many people are looking for. It was roomy - three bedrooms, kitchen, laundry machines, plus deck - a good value for the price of $145. Although near the road, there is little traffic at night. I was hoping for a little more solid construction and furnishing, but it was more than adequate. The perks were excellent. A breakfast basket supplied muffin, quiche, fruit, and fruit juice. The main house had a hot tub, living room with wireless coffee and tea, and TV room, plus the scenic waterwheel and trout pond. One glitch is that the room with wireless was said to close at 9pm and the spa at 10pm, although I think we could have stayed later. Another is that the wireless was down one evening. Another detail, I had to go fetch my breakfast basket one morning. Finally, I showed up a day early, and was directed to Wellspring up the road for that night, but I have only myself to blame for that, and it was fine, too. read more

Beautiful lodge with very welcoming staff. Checking in was very smooth and straight forward. The lodge has a very comfy and cozy atmosphere to it. The suite we stayed in was nice and clean and had a deck that is connected to a big outdoor area. The main bedroom had a 360 view with nice green landscaping surround it. There's a really nice common area with a fireplace where we sat and let the kids play with the available board games. Also, there are literally dozens of DVDs to pick from and watch in the comfort of your room. Complimentary breakfast is served in the lodge restaurant. The restaurant has a cozy seating area. The breakfast was generous with many different options to choose from. The lodge has a pond and small bridge walk, very nice for a tranquil walk. The kids loved feeding the fish by the pond. read more

We stayed here last weekend for one night. We stayed in tower room which has a lot of character. Beautiful and peaceful stay. Bedrooms were spacious and clean. my son loved feeding the fish in the pond. We enjoyed dinner at restaurant with some nice wine. Food quality was great and portions were huge. Needless to say we will be back here soon. read more

The hotel is cute and clean. Nice common areas. Nicely decorated. Staff can be difficult to find and attention to detail is lacking. Seems like there isn't enough to staff. In the evening they offer wine from 5-6 in the parlor. Friday evening it was 5:15 and no wine yet so had to ask a staff about it, but was brought quickly. In the morning coffee in the parlor ran out, and I had to track down staff to refill the coffee pot for guests to use. Food/resturant: At dinner the service was slow (again felt understaffed with one waiter). Food was mediocre. Water was empty before it was refilled. They are definitely trying to be more upscale than they are. I see what they are trying for. Breakfast was great. Much better food and service. For the price it's what you'd expect. If you've been to a quality b&b with excellent service you'll be disappointed, but its on par with the price charged. read more

We enjoyed our family get together this past weekend at Alexander's Lodge, Ashford - (very near the Mt Rainier National Park gate entrance going up to our destination at Paradise Lodge and Visitor Center.) We had great accommodations and service a couple of years ago for family time and my Mom's Memorial. The family enjoyed each unique room, the pond, the parlor for chess, piano, and other games SO much... they all wanted to return. Happy we finally were able to plan another trip and even happier to report we again enjoyed great/clean accommodations and friendly/helpful hospitality. They are operating with COVID protocols (which I appreciated as it has been making the rounds personally and with people we know) .... So check in/check out are not done in person - but they are only a phone call away if needed. Plus breakfast baskets for the rooms (not the Chalet) are delivered instead of breakfast served in dining room (which we had enjoyed before.) But we were offered options to pick what we wanted in the baskets - which was nice. The rooms were clean, and management worked with me months ago to pick out the rooms best for our group. This time we also rented the Chalet - a great option being a hub for family time and meals. The kitchen was well stocked with needed items and the bonus was having a washer/dryer (plus the laundry detergent!) I didn't think we would have need - but it turned out incredibly handy. We enjoyed the outside deck area on the Chalet - which provided a great addition to the indoor space for family time. Also a bonus was the lovely free standing gas fireplace that was great to cozy up to in the morning, sitting in the rocking chair, drinking coffee. We love all the various spaces/options at Alexanders Lodge for people to hang out when not up at Paradise. The pond seating area (and trail) is a favorite, with the parlor a close second. All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly! I know we will be hoping to make another family memory there in the future. PS we recommend the Wild Berry Cafe (owned and staffed by sherpa's from the Himalayas who have climbed/guided extensively) walking distance, almost across the street. The Summit Burgers and pie are a total hit with our family and the prices are reasonable - especially in comparison to other places. read more

My wife and I had planned to stay at the lodge from 9/23/22 - 9/27. Our trip was to begin on 9/14 with a 4 day stay in Seattle before driving to areas in Washington state and arriving at Alexander's Lodge on the 23rd. However, on the 11th, the smoke from wildfires was so bad in Seattle that state officials recommended outdoor activities be limited to essential needs only. My wife and I are both over 70 so we decided to cancel our entire trip and rebook next spring. Every hotel we had booked refunded our money and Alaska Airlines gave us a credit even though it was a non-refundable fare....but not Alexander's Lodge. Despite the fact that they rebooked the room, they refused a refund because we canceled 11 days in advance and not the required 14 days, so in essence, they received two fares for one room for four days!. I understand the reason for their cancellation policy. However, considering the severe smoke restrictions in Seattle and other areas we planned to visit AND the fact that they re-booked the room, refusing to even offer a credit when we re-booked in the spring is an indication of a 'don't give a crap' attitude that people should take into account when deciding on a hotel in that area. read more

Best place I've ever stayed!! It's a very old Victorian building (built in 1911) and you can tell but that's all part of the charm for me. Everything is clean and the rooms get as warm as you want. But it's the character that really struck me. More like a large B&B than a hotel. The stained glass windows were gorgeous and there is antique furniture everywhere. I loved looking at the framed original blueprints. Still, it doesn't feel at all stuffy; more like you are visiting with family. Especially the large common area. That was the best part for me. Instead of bouncing around a hotel room, my kids could burn off energy and play board games while we relaxed in front of the fire on comfortable sofas and hung out. After the littlest ones were asleep, the grownups gathered around the large dining table for drinks and a rousing game of Pictionary. We also made new friends (shout out to Brian, Nicole, and the boys) which was awesome too!! The breakfast buffet at the restaurant downstairs was great. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We didn't get a good chance to explore the grounds since we only stayed one night but we will definitely rectify that when we come back. And we will DEFINITELY be back!! read more

Great place to getaway and they are dog friendly! (Depending on the room you reserve). Old timey (because it is old), exactly what i expected from a bed and breakfast. Reasonably priced. Super relaxed, beautiful area, very local/family run feel. I think only a handful of people run it so be patient if your food takes a little bit or if you are used to swank hotels this is not for you. I thought the room and bed linens were very clean and I slept like a baby in the bed (lower suite, 11). And our dog loved walking the grounds. (Medium sized Australian shep/black lab mx if you're wondering about size). We hired Jenny, the massage therapist to give us each a massage in our room which was convenient and wonderful. I only gave her a few hours notice on a Saturday and she jumped right on the appointment. She was very accommodating with my pregnancy, and gave my husband an extra 45 minutes (which made me hungry waiting but since it was his birthday I wasn't going to complain!). Wonderful massage, she brings her own table. Light to medium pressure, coconut oil (non scented, moisturizing). Her email is: jennykilley44@hotmail.com. read more

A lovely place to stay. A beautiful old lodge with lots of character. The rooms are charming and it has an amazing lounge and a covered hot tub outside by the pond. Stay here for a wonderful winter experience. The food was sub average and very pricey. The meat over-cooked and dry. The meal, if you can call it that, was served on a bare plate: white platter and a piece of meat. A salad or more colourful veggies on the plate would have helped a lot. They need to work on their food and presentation and then this would be a wonderful place to eat as well as to spend the night. Breakfast was a much better experience. read more

Fiancé and I stayed for one night in room #10. Cute little room. The bed was firm but comfortable. Free breakfast in the morning was good. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I felt the bathroom area could've been cleaned a little better (there was hair in the shower and toilet from the previous guests, I assume) and the hot water wasn't quite as hot as I'd like. The sofa also could've used some extra vacuuming. Other than that, great stay. Beautiful area. We will stay again in the spring. read more

Wow. We stayed here for a wine and beer event down the road. The service and staff were amazing. Our room was so nice and after a long day we were going to relax and watch a movie in bed. We started the movie and the next thing we knew it was morning. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. We woke up and went for a walk around the grounds first thing in the morning and saw a huge Great blue Heron. The trout pond was awesome. I highly recommend staying here and look forward to coming back. read more

I'm in LOVE with this place! Adorable, clean, comfortable, a mile from Mt. Rainer entrance. Delicious food. Insanely affordable. Beautiful property. A "tiny trail" through a gorgeous moss-covered rain forest. The air is so fresh! My soul dances at this gem of a lodge. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. I'll be back and next time I'm bringing others. read more

For a place in the boonies, this place is pretty darn expensive but it sure felt worth it after a day spent hiking 13 miles on Mt. Rainier trails! This place has an attached restaurant, which proclaims that its food has been voted the best in the Mt. Rainier area...although that's not saying much since all the other restaurants around are boring diners and whatnot (we got rather mediocre four-cheese lasagna with a yummy slice of blueberry pie for dinner). The inn also has a really cute parlor equipped with a humongous chess set, some other games, lots of comfy couches, a nice fireplace, and complimentary wine in the evenings, with complimentary coffee and tea in the morning. (There's also a media room..but why would you watch TV when the great outdoors are right there and you're (hopefully) traveling in good company?) The best part of the common areas is a hot tub in a little shack they have out back that looks out onto Alexander's trout pond (equipped with lots of trout that you can eat in the restaurant for $22...we were not enticed). Nothing better-NOTHING BETTER- than a hot tub soak after that much hiking. I thought I was having a brain orgasm when I stepped in. As for our room? We paid $200 for a night in a suite that was in the tower of the Inn. What does this mean? It means that we had an awesome octagonal bedroom with windows looking out onto a quaint garden and a huge waterwheel. It means that we had our own little sun porch and a little living room--all adorable! Overall, Alexander's is a perfect place to stay if you're looking to spend a night in a cozy place with great service instead of pitching a tent after a long day of hiking (don't worry: you can still pitch a metaphorical tent at Alexander's!) but I had to take a star off for the not-uncomfortable-but-not-so-plush, creaky bed, the fan-less bathroom that smelled slightly mildew-y, and the dreadful shampoo that completely stripped my hair of any and all moisture. Oh, and: five stars to my boyfriend for finding this haven where we could cuddle after a long day of hiking and exploring! read more

This place was very nice though I expect that the star ratings are all so high because it really is the only semi-luxury option within about 50 miles. Our room was very clean and well maintained with some lovely antique furnishings. We had a small suite which gave us the full bathroom and a pretty view of the side gardens. Some pleasant surprises included the guided tour through the inn from Penny after we checked in, the trout pond with waterfall outside, and complimentary wine in the sitting area. We also had dinner and breakfast here and were pleased with both meals. After a day of driving through the mountains and hiking it was a treat to end it in such a pretty place. However, this is not a place for honeymooners as the walls are pretty thin and I expect that every bed creaks as loud as ours did! Yikes. read more

Nothing short of odd. Too big to be considered a Bed and Breakfast. The room I am in is $165 a night and worth $50. Cheap bed. Tiny bathroom. No view. Apocalyptic decor. Stinky hot tub. Etc. But if you're into that sorta thing, you'll be right at home! Honestly, it should be relabeled as a cheap hotel in B&B costume. There aren't even glasses for water in the room... ?? I'm thirsty! And...the help is ... obviously not pulled from a large pool of applicants, let's just say that. read more

My girlfriends and I stopped at Alexander's Restaurant last week. We were hiking at Mount Rainier and had met 2 couples on the trail who said they were staying at Alexander's and suggest we go there for dinner. By the time we had arrived, we were ravenous - and the homemade bread hit the spot. So did the cold beer. Between the 3 of us, we had the fresh trout (deboned at our table!), the strawberry-rhubarb salad and the eggplant/portobello parmigiana. The food was all so yummy! With little room left for dessert, we shared a wonderful piece of blackberry pie with ice cream. What a perfect way to wrap up a day with the girls. read more

A truly lovely experience with hospitable people and wonderful services. My boyfriend and I stayed in the budget room for one night before heading into the park. We had a lovely dinner the night we checked in and a made-to-order breakfast before we headed out. The grounds are beautiful and while I didn't take advantage of it, the hot tub and parlor are very nice additions. I would highly recommend Alexander's and look forward to staying next time we are heading up to Mt. Rainier. read more

This little gem was started around the turn of the century by a Greek immigrant Alexander and his family. The Inn is full of awesome Victorian period decor and they offer guests the luxuries of that era. It has all the basics and gorgeous styling. It's about average in terms of room rates, about $100-$150 per night. They have an awesome dining room and great blackberry pie as well. read more

Clean place to stay, but very cramped and basic considering the price. Our room did not have a window that could open, only a very loud fan/AC unit for ventilation. We had a disappointing experience with booking. We'd requested two beds-- well in advance. We were given a room with one small double bed and a small, uncomfortable pullout sofa with foam cushions. Hotel couldn't be bothered to make up in advance, but told us we'd find sheets in the closet. To be fair, I doubt you'll find anything much better close to this park entrance. Next time, we'll stay inside the park or just drive back to a place with more accommodation options. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alexander's. My husband and I stayed there after climbing Mount Rainier in late May. And it also happened to be my birthday. We thought it would be a perfect end to our trip...and it was. The ladies were so welcoming when we arrived. I had seen photos online, but they really don't do the place justice. We stayed in one of the suites, overlooking the pond out front. It was such a cute room! And the ladies had left me a delicious chocolate bar and card for my birthday. Too sweet! Before dinner, we sat downstairs and enjoyed the free wine tasting and games. There really weren't too many people at the inn on a Thursday night this early in the season, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Dinner at the inn was amazing and my husband had called ahead and ordered a birthday cake. He said the ladies had tons of suggestions and were so excited to help out with my birthday surprises. After dinner, we spent the rest of the evening soaking in the hot tub with a bottle of wine. I seriously think that hot tub is the only reason I wasn't soar after our climb! We slept in the next morning and then had breakfast at the inn restaurant. It was AWESOME! We just sat there watching all the birds and enjoying all the delicious courses. Usually when you get a free breakfast at a hotel, its okay. Bagels, yogurt, the standard stuff. This was gourmet!! Pastries, fruit, more pastries (for me), eggs, sausage, hash browns, coffee, juice...to name a few. We then went for a leisurely stroll around the property. I was honestly sad to leave and cannot wait to go back! Thank you so much, Alexander's!!! We'll see you this fall! read more

I have mixed feelings about this lodge, but one thing I know is that I won't stay there again! I'm giving them 3 stars for the employees. They were the best part of my one night stay. The new owners need to seriously clean and update the grounds and especially the rooms. Dirty carpet, furniture, bathroom sink and tub. The architecture in the room I stayed in was very pretty and I slept well in the bed. I woke up to a lukewarm shower, which upset me. I couldn't wait to get packed up and out of the room. Rocko was my server at breakfast. He went above and beyond for me. The fresh fruit I ordered was delicious, but the English muffin was burnt around the edges. I should have asked for another one, but it wasn't important enough to bother. While I ate I watched the water wheel and the birds at the bird feeders right outside the restaurant window. That was nice. Because of its cleaning issues and maintenance of the property I can't recommend staying overnight. Overpriced for my experiences. read more

Postives: cute, rustic, homey place to stay. I stayed in the very special Tower Room, which has steep, carpeted, ladder-like stairs up to the bedroom area. The downstairs has a TV and couch and lots of windows. It was very quiet and private. The breakfast was the same both days, but had plenty of hot and cold options (e.g. sausage, waffle makers, toast, cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs). The coffee provided to make in the room was terrible, but the coffee at breakfast was fine. Negatives: My biggest complaint is that the sheets on the bed were 100% polyester, which made me feel sweaty and uncomfortable and irritated my sensitive skin. Also there are no curtains on two of the bedroom windows, so the summer sunrise lit the bedroom by 4-5am. The bathroom only has a shower, so don't expect to soak sore muscles in a bath after a long hike. Shower had great water pressure and hot water, but no hair conditioner was provided; just cheap motel-style bar soap and "conditioning shampoo". They offer fancier toiletries for sale in the lobby. With that and all the "tips requested" signs around the property, I felt a little uncomfortable with all the money grubbing. WiFi seemed to be a regular home-router in the common area downstairs that likely couldn't handle the large number of guests there on the weekend. It was spotty but worked well in the mornings, and was essential since my cell phone didn't work there at all (but worked sporadically on the rest of the mountain). Overall I would recommend this place to stay if you're looking for a unique mountain lodge and on a budget. It's a little run down, but still nice enough to enjoy yourself if you like an adventure. read more

Quaint but not so cozy. I'll start by saying that the location is truly magnificent. The hillside is beautiful and the inn is located only a mile from Mt. Rainier National Park. Our room was on the expensive side for its offerings however. It was incredibly small, as was the bathroom. The bed lacked comfort which was unfortunate after a long day of hiking. read more

I really like this place. It's a charming country inn just a few miles from the Nisqually entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. They have a new chef who's trained in classic French techniques and prepares classic Pacific Northwest dishes with flair. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Parking is free. Oh and if you're visiting the area to go on a hike or a steam train ride this place will do a deli-lunch to go. read more

I haven't stayed here, but I've had dinner here a few times and it's really quite good. The building and history are great, and the staff is very friendly. Price point on the food is to be expected for a tourist town, but I have enjoyed every meal. Dining room is a little kitschy, but very cozy, and there's usually a fire blazing in the colder months. We really enjoyed our stay here! The fall colors were out around the pond, and the Mt. Rainier park entrance was just a short drive away. Alexanders' was in the group of lodgings closest to the gate, and the location really couldn't be beat. It looked like many of the other places were closing or closed for the winter. Our room was comfy, the bathroom was large, and there was a modern TV with internet access and a DVD player. Alexanders' was not a super fancy place (it's a LODGE, not the four seasons), but the service is what set Alexanders' apart from similar lodgings. Upon check-in, we were personally shown to our room. The same staff members were available throughout our stay, anxious to answer questions or serve breakfast. We enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant, and then had an excellent fall Sunday hiking in the park. read more

We just returned from a retreat at Alexander's Lodge. Alexander's team really outdid themselves! Everything was so wonderful - the rooms were lovely and the beds were all super comfy. Everyone said they slept well. The Wi-Fi was consistent and reliable, there was a nice selection of movies to watch. I wasn't able to get any cell reception, but that was ok - it was a retreat after all. :) I was so impressed with how accommodating the staff was. They always helped with a smile and "sure!" We asked if there was a fire pit maybe two nights in advance, but they didn't have one. However, not only did they get us a fire pit (in that short time), but wood to boot!! They really handled everything well. It was so nice to not have to worry about things being taken care of. The staff did wonderfully dealing with the desires and needs of 27 different people. The inn is nicely decorated; all of the rooms are unique. Even though the building is older, the bathrooms are up to date and it is very quiet when you're in your room. Our room had a little porch, from which we could hear and see the birds. It was so relaxing. Loved the gift shop, and the fish pond - I could have fed the fish all day!! (they got full, though) The whole atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. I really had a hard time turning in my key! read more

We stayed here in June for a night and it has so much potential but it's expensive for what you get and it feels a little tired, as if the owners don't really care. During our stay we never saw a manager on site, which I normally wouldn't point out but at a small place like this you would expect to see someone in charge. All of the employees we encountered were very pleasant. Stayed in the pond suite, which has a nice view and it's secluded and private. Overall we would go back and try it again but we wouldn't make a special trip for it. read more

This is a very nice bed and breakfast style inn near the entrance of Mt. Rainer Park's west entrance. This is the only semi-luxury offering near the park. The selection of choices is very limited. If you are a photographer and need to be in the park very early for sunrise or late for sunset suck it up and stay at the paradise lodge. With slow traffic and construction it takes about 45 minutes to get up/ down the hill. The food is excellent and rates a definite 4. The breakfasts were very generous. The French toast was a particularly good breakfast item and the several breakfast specials were all very good. We ate dinner and enjoyed the lamb shanks. A larger shank would have been appreciated. The salmon dinner and the steak were good but not great. Overall the breakfasts were the best. They do offer lunch sandwiches to go which we did not try but would be welcome for a trip into the park. All the staff were very helpful and talkative. The serving staff checked in with us frequently. And the meals were served hot. We stayed in the chalet which was a cute house off the far side of the property. For the $300+ dollar nightly fee it was definitely underwhelming. The house requires some substantial updating to take out of the late seventies. Everything was clean. We slept in the upstairs queen bed which had poor support in the middle of the mattress and just needs to be replaced. An update on the DVD and TV are mandatory - old small CRT tv's just don't cut it at this price point. The cable was just basic so don't expect anything more than news, weather channel and infomercial channels. For kids feeding the trout at their fish pond was the highlight for our six year old daughter. Staff very kid friendly. Overall would rate as a 3.5 since there is no intermediate rating. read more

Just got back from a group retreat at the lodge and, I have to say, I really enjoyed my stay. The inn was clean and comfortable, the staff was wonderful and I was surprised by how comfortable the bed in my room was!! I really slept well!!
