An unsual and memorable place to stay, just outside the park entrance for Mt. Rainier. After turning off the main road, you drive up a narrow gravel pathway, and there it is, a classic log cabin, two-story, nestled amongst the trees. The place was clean and spacious and had all the modern conveniences, including a kitchen. Yes, it's in the woods, but we felt perfectly safe -- there are a few other cabins nearby, and it's not far from civilization. A few retail and restaurant places are within easy driving distance. My only negative is that it claims to be suitable for up to six guests. That's not my experience. There are two good beds -- a queen and a full. The queen might work for a couple, but the full is really only good for one person. And the third bed is a fold out couch that only one of our party could seem to sleep on. Might be OK for kids, though. A small other downside -- we saw a few spiders, but you're in the woods here so you need to expect a bit of that. The thing I liked best about it is the location. It's just a mile from the park entrance for the Paradise part of the park. Later in the day, you can see cars lining up to wait an hour to get in, but not you -- because you're already there you can start early and get in without a wait. Pro tip: Get some groceries on the way. There are a few restaurants, but not a wide selection and the cabin has a kitchen with everything you need to cook. read more

My wife and I recently stayed here to attend a wedding which was being held close by. We chose the Huckleberry cabin as each cabin has it's own name. The cabin has a nice woodsy smell even though we did have to air it out and it felt very cozy right once you stepped inside. The place is quite secluded with only one other cabin close by and the other by the owners. The amenities offered here is great with the free Wi-Fi which is very good for a far away place like this so close to Mount Rainier. The signal strength was great and we never had a disruption in service. When we checked in, Janet was there to greet us and was very helpful to explain about hiking options at Mount Rainier plus all the dining options close by in Ashford. They have a wide array of DVD's for you to borrow since they don't have any TV signal, but during our entire stay here we were always too busy to watch any of them. The cabin we stayed at was just terrific as it seems as it was recently not too long ago remodeled. It has a full size fridge, stove and even a dishwasher. They also have utensils and kitchen utensils for cooking with pots and pans included. The interior of the cabin was nicely decorated and you can tell the place has been kept up with all the guests coming and going with each new reservation. The bathroom is large and has a nice big Jacuzzi tub with a skylight. The main draw of the place was the big hot tub right outside our bedroom door. It was fenced in so you have privacy throughout and you can freely jump in and out whenever you want. The place also came with a small porch with a gas barbeque grill which we utilized once for barbequing burgers. It was such a great setting to relax and have a couple beers before heading to the wedding. If I ever come to Mount Rainier again I would definitely choose to stay at this cabin again as it is quite a long drive back to Seattle if only coming for a day trip. The amenities offered here just seems to make staying in the woods that more inviting! P.S. They have no cell phone signal here and you cannot get any reception once you leave the premises. read more

Out of all the places we've stayed in our five year marriage, The Cedar Grove Cabin, was by far the most majestic and beautiful. Nestled amongst a canopy oasis of cedar trees, this recently renovated cabin features both and INDOOR and OUTDOOR hot-tub. Never did we expect how beautiful this experience could have been. We have never been able to find a place since that includes both types of jacuzzis, which is perfect after a long day of hiking. Another great thing was that the kitchen came stocked with great appliances and equipment for cooking. Lastly, the owners Janet and Pat were friendly and helpful. We absolutely look forward to visiting this part of the country in the future and staying in our beloved studio cabin. read more

We stayed in the Cedar Grove cabin back in March and I must say I LOVED this cabin. It was extremely comfortable, warm, and modern in a woodsy-rustic kind of way. The kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil you can think of and even had a dishwasher...my apartment in downtown Seattle didn't even have a dishwasher! I don't think there was cable, but we brought movies to watch on the dvd player. We enjoyed the hottub very much, and the grill off the deck was perfect for steaks. I mean, it was honestly one of the finest weekend getaways I've ever had. The drive from Seattle was brutal on a Friday afternoon, but once we got away from the crowds and closer to the Mountain, it was so beautiful. The owners are very responsive to online queries and gave really great directions to the cabin. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

My husband and I were visiting Mt. Rainier in March and stayed in the Maplewild cabin for one night, which was lovely. The power went out in the area for about 5 hours during our stay, but we still had a wonderful time. I just so happened to buy a novel the day before and had plenty of time to rest and read. They provide lanterns in the cabin. It was just so cozy! There was a loft bedroom, and the bed was super comfy and clean. I slept very soundly. When the power came back on later that night, we got to watch the DVDs that the owners let us borrow. Although we didn't get to use the hot tub that night, we were able to have an early morning hot tub session. Great way to start the day! If I lived in the area, I would definitely stay here again! My wife and I stayed in the Salal cabin for two nights last week. It's difficult to describe just how wonderful our entire experience was. First of all, the cabin is beautiful! The design, the feel, the smell...everything was perfect. The Salal cabin sits up high on the hill away from the road, so it is extremely quiet and secluded. Anywhere you stand in the entire cabin has a forest view out of the windows. Janet was super helpful and prompt in responding to all of our emails. We were driving down from Seattle and wanted to get a little hiking in. Since there were not a lot of food options, we asked if we could check in early so we could drop off some perishables in the refrigerator. Since the cabin was available early, Janet went out of her way to arrange for the cabin to be cleaned for our arrival. This small personal touch was great. The cabin was supplied with literally everything we needed! Dishes, cooking utensils, aluminum foil, etc... The towels were clean and soft. The hot tub was clean and ready to go. We could tell that a lot of time and effort has been put toward giving guests a great experience. The location of the cabins is less than a mile from the park entrance too, which added to the convenience. If you find yourself in need of a place to stay while visiting Mt. Rainier National Park, I highly recommend Deep Forest Cabins! We will be back!!! read more

My boyfriend and I booked the Maplewild cabin for a weekend getaway, and we were not disappointed in the least. Pat welcomed us effusively the moment we arrived, and gave us tips on the best hikes in the area that were off the beaten track. We then made the short drive over to the cabin, and were enthralled by how cozy and perfect it was. This enthrallment remained for the duration of our stay here. The bed had a ridiculously comfortable mattress with extremely soft linens. Combine that with the peace and quiet you get thanks to being secluded from the world, and you end up sleeping like a log. The bathroom had a neat little skylight over the tub, which I thought was a great little touch. The kitchen is stocked with all your basic appliances and tableware, and there's a grill outside to enjoy a nice steak. The hot tub on the deck was the icing on the cake, and it came in most handy after our hike at nearby Mt. Beljica. There were even plastic wine glasses in the kitchen for us to relax even further while enjoying a drink in the hot tub. I cannot wait to come back! I don't think I can ever bring myself to stay elsewhere when I visit the Mt. Rainier area in the future. PS: There is absolutely no cell phone signal around, but wifi is available both at Janet and Pat's place (aka where you check in) as well as at the little utilities shack in the area where the cabins are located. read more

My husband and I stayed at Deep forest Cabins - Chanterelle - for 2 nights and enjoyed it. This is their smallest cabin but has enough space for sleeping, showering and relaxing a bit. I don't necessarily recommend this cabin for having around...I would probably get a larger cabin for that purpose. The Chanterelle did meet our needs since we were hiking most of the tome and not spending much time at the cabin. The cabin had beautiful wood floors and a nice sofa under the window to relax. The shower and bathroom were on a lower level (4 steps down from the main room/bedroom) and was large with a small refrigerator and microwave. All in all the stay was comfortable. If we are ever back in the area I would stay at Deep Forest Cabins. The only thing I would add is wifi. There is absolutely no cell signal out there so be forewarned. read more

We had a great experience with Deep Forest Cabins from start to finish. The booking was wonderfully smooth, Janet answered all of our questions and even provided good directions to help us navigate our late night arrival (these roads aren't quite lit like the city). We stayed at the beautiful Chanterelle Guest Cabin, which is the smallest of all the cabins at Deep Forest. It doesn't have a kitchen, but it certainly had everything else that we needed, including a mini fridge and a microwave. It was cozy and private with a wonderful view atop a hill (supposedly great for stars, but with our weather we saw a great spread of.. clouds). There is no phone reception and no internet, but it does have a flat screen TV and an ipod dock and they do have dvds available for you to borrow. And oh yeah, they also had good food recs, a nice change of pace from the food we were encountering on the road. :) A really wonderful and convenient location for those wanting a little peace and quiet while visiting Mt. My husband and I stayed here for a few days for our first anniversary. We stayed in the Cedar Grove cabin and had a blast! Our favorite part was the soaking jet tub in the bathroom and the hot tub outside. This place is smack dab in the middle of the forest so you have total privacy and seclusion. The cabin was stocked with everything you could need (even a coffee grinder! Yay!). The bed was comfortable with lots of comfy blankets and pillows. It was so peaceful outside that we kept thinking we were hearing noises! We are just not used to all of those peaceful surroundings. It was GLORIOUS. There is no cable or internet reception...this was LIBERATING. Bring DVDs if you want to watch stuff. In the four days we spent there, we barely saw a soul. We heard a car drive by our cabin a few times and that's it! We had a great time and would definitely recommend. read more

My wife and I have spent our anniversary the last 3 years at the Maplewild cabin. The privacy and seclusion is great, as well as the insanely close proximity to Mt Rainier. It serves as a perfect base camp for hiking the great park. We spend the day traversing the mountain, soak away the soreness in the hottub, and top it off with a cold beer and a steak hot of the grill! The Maplewild Cabin has some great architecture, my favorite feature being the massive wall of windows facing the deck with an excellent view of the forest and adjacent hillside. This year they have added a dishwasher, flat screen TV, and a larger window in the bedroom, and I couldn't be happier with the improvements! The owners and caretaker are both extremely nice as well as accomodating. I really don't have a single complaint. I've been hooked on the cabin since our first visit, and we're already planning our next stay! read more

My husband and I stayed at the guest house when I was in town for work this past weekend. We travel quite a bit for work, and I'm always searching for a good deal. The guest house seemed to be the best bang for the buck that I could find in the area. Highlights: *I'm pretty picky, but the bed and bedding was amazing-- it was so comfy I didn't want to get out of bed. *The cabin was really clean, which was nice, and which isn't often found in remote, mountain cabins. It was a plenty surprise. *Heated floors in the bathroom, so nice! *It was a little chilly when we were there (the end of September), but the heater had been turned on in anticipation of our arrival, and the cabin was nice and cozy. *Loved the big windows, and waking up to the forest view. We felt like we were in a treehouse. *The website notes there is no kitchen, but it does have a fridge and a microwave, which was just perfect for us. We loved it, and would definitely stay again upon return to Ashford. read more

We stayed here again over President's Day weekend and I have to stick with the 5 stars! The Cedar was booked so we reserved the Maplewild. I am really glad we did - it is so private and and lovely. I was hoping for snow and just missed it by a couple of days, but we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful time. The Maplewild has a seperate living and bedroom space which was really nice. There was a pull out sofa that had a surprisingly comfy bed, where we spend much of the time watching movies and snuggling. The hot tub was great and totally private. We did have a bit of a misunderstanding with the cleaner after checking out, however, the owner was really apologetic and has corrected the issue. read more

Just completed our third stay at Deep Forest Cabins, Second at the "Cedar Grove". This cabin is an amazing romantic getaway. The cabin is lined head to toe with cedar, and it smells and looks wonderful! This cabin is well setup for couples as it has only a single queen bed and the bathroom suite is that of dreams! My wife's dreams that is, its huge and has a separate jetted tub and a stand alone glass shower. The ceiling is vaulted and where the vault meets the wall at its highest point there are large windows revealing the cedar forest behind the cabin. Breath taking yet private. The kitchen is roomy and great for preparing meals. When you wake in the morning you will be shocked to find huge cedars running straight through the cabin. Or so it appears, what a ingenious design and a unique experience to wake up to. Oh did I mention the sunken hot tub on the deck, picture this soaking in the bubbly water while snow flakes fall through the towering trees above and land on your face. The deer watching is is outstanding via the many large windows. Everything is well thought out here! I decided to surprise my girlfriend with a trip to the Deep Forest Cabins for her birthday and had an amazing weekend getaway! The owner's, Janet and Pat, were very prompt in replying to any e-mail inquires I had before and after booking. They even sent an e-mail with VERY detailed instructions and suggestions which was definitely helpful; it made things less stressful for me on the day we headed down to the cabin. We stayed in the Mountain Home cabin which was the only one available at the time of booking. Janet and Pat were kind enough to let me book the cabin for a one night stay which I greatly appreciated due to time constraints with work...The pictures on the website were spot on and my girlfriend and I were blown away with how beautiful the cabin was. The cabin was very clean and fully furnished (minus a washer/dryer which we wouldn't have used anyways) with a secluded hot tub outside and a jetted tub/shower in the bathroom. We both enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning in the near future. I highly recommend Deep Forest Cabins for your next weekend getaway. read more

My husband and I stayed here the first weekend of October when the park was shut down. We stayed at the Cedar Grove cabin, which is perfect for two people. We were perfectly content staying in the cabin the whole time. The inside of the cabin is made of solid wood and the bathroom is luxurious. The hot tub is also amazing. The kitchen is extremely charming and completely functional. We brought all our own food and cooked barbecue on the deck grill as well. I highly recommend Deep Forest Cabins. Very Clean. Tastefully decorated room, cabin feel with newer kitchen appliances. Thick soft towels (and plenty of them!), good shower-although I wish the shower head could change its wide stream for more force in a single flow- deep shower/bath have to really step up and over edge. Natural soaps- encouraged me to buy same when I got home it worked so well!, Natural soap kitchen, too. Well stocked kitchen, they provide everything like coffee, salt, etc. We didn't cook there but it looked well set up. Window shades very cool-easy to pull up down. Quiet! Cars very muffled due to house and trees in front of cabin. Janet is super ice, welcoming, helpful with advice and maps. Filtered water a plus. We refilled our glass water bottles every day before our hike. Nice artwork. Hooks everywhere are helpful for more storage. Bed was way too soft for me. Sheets nice and soft.
