Almost Paradise Lodging - Romantic getaway at Almost Paradise Lodging at Mt. Rainier

We stayed at the Woodland cabin. Absolutely amazing…read more The cabin is stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Just run in to the local market for perishables and you never have to leave the cabin again! Hot tub, chess board, DVD player, coffee maker, toaster, modern stove and oven, microwave, and even a washer and dryer; there's nothing you'll miss from home ... except wifi or cell reception, but that's part of what you're getting away from, isn't it? From our cabin, we were a short five-minute drive outside of the park: perfect proximity to one of this country's most breathtaking National Parks. We stayed three days and never once saw Carol... The proprietors of Almost Paradise Lodging have great respect for your privacy, but the front desk and their friendly dog, Dugan, are always available should you have additional requests. Perfect in every way; highly recommended!

Both were perfect after a few long days of hiking. We also took advantage of the campfire ring to end one of our evenings by the warm fire. The proximity to the Rainier park entrance was also hugely helpful - we were able to get there early and avoid the lines. We hope we'll get the chance to come back!

An unsual and memorable place to stay, just outside the park entrance for Mt. Rainier…read more After turning off the main road, you drive up a narrow gravel pathway, and there it is, a classic log cabin, two-story, nestled amongst the trees. The place was clean and spacious and had all the modern conveniences, including a kitchen. Yes, it's in the woods, but we felt perfectly safe -- there are a few other cabins nearby, and it's not far from civilization. A few retail and restaurant places are within easy driving distance. My only negative is that it claims to be suitable for up to six guests. That's not my experience. There are two good beds -- a queen and a full. The queen might work for a couple, but the full is really only good for one person. And the third bed is a fold out couch that only one of our party could seem to sleep on. Might be OK for kids, though. A small other downside -- we saw a few spiders, but you're in the woods here so you need to expect a bit of that. The thing I liked best about it is the location. It's just a mile from the park entrance for the Paradise part of the park. Later in the day, you can see cars lining up to wait an hour to get in, but not you -- because you're already there you can start early and get in without a wait. Pro tip: Get some groceries on the way. There are a few restaurants, but not a wide selection and the cabin has a kitchen with everything you need to cook.

My wife and I recently stayed here to attend a wedding which was being held close by. We chose the…read moreHuckleberry cabin as each cabin has it's own name. The cabin has a nice woodsy smell even though we did have to air it out and it felt very cozy right once you stepped inside. The place is quite secluded with only one other cabin close by and the other by the owners. The amenities offered here is great with the free Wi-Fi which is very good for a far away place like this so close to Mount Rainier. The signal strength was great and we never had a disruption in service. When we checked in, Janet was there to greet us and was very helpful to explain about hiking options at Mount Rainier plus all the dining options close by in Ashford. They have a wide array of DVD's for you to borrow since they don't have any TV signal, but during our entire stay here we were always too busy to watch any of them. The cabin we stayed at was just terrific as it seems as it was recently not too long ago remodeled. It has a full size fridge, stove and even a dishwasher. They also have utensils and kitchen utensils for cooking with pots and pans included. The interior of the cabin was nicely decorated and you can tell the place has been kept up with all the guests coming and going with each new reservation. The bathroom is large and has a nice big Jacuzzi tub with a skylight. The main draw of the place was the big hot tub right outside our bedroom door. It was fenced in so you have privacy throughout and you can freely jump in and out whenever you want. The place also came with a small porch with a gas barbeque grill which we utilized once for barbequing burgers. It was such a great setting to relax and have a couple beers before heading to the wedding. If I ever come to Mount Rainier again I would definitely choose to stay at this cabin again as it is quite a long drive back to Seattle if only coming for a day trip. The amenities offered here just seems to make staying in the woods that more inviting! P.S. They have no cell phone signal here and you cannot get any reception once you leave the premises.

Location is excellent. No guest book with directions or other information (such as telephone…read morenumber to call regarding the chalet, wi-fi code). Appliances work. (no dishwasher). Lots of plates and glasses, flatware for about four people, cookware minimal with missing pot cover. Hot tub too hot to use and controls did not work; could not locate temperature control. (Almost fell in trying to reach control knobs on the hot tub.) Picnic table rotted, missing hunk of its top, and we had to cover it with a sheet to make it usable. Plenty of outdoor plastic chairs. One big deck in front and one average sized one in back with hot tub. Inside furniture adequate with two futons as couchs, a (really low) rocking chair, cushioned wicker chair, and at least 6 dining room chairs and a folding chair. Dining table sturdy and easily seats six. The one, small bathroom had mysterious, tiny gathering of dirt in a corner. Mouse turds in some pots and pans (don't think we have hantavirus here, though). Beds comfortable. Sheets clean. One comforter had mysterious stains & was avoided. Downstairs bedroom with twin bunk bed very tiny with no screen on window, too hot too use. Upstairs bedrooms stuffy despite fan and open windows. House smelled musty. House hot. (Outside temp in 80*'s) Ladders (one open, one leaning on A frame of old exterior wall) for each up-bedroom very, very steep & narrow with no side railings, but a grab bar at the top. (No going to downstairs bathroom in semi-sleep state!) Overall, I do not recommend this chalet. It could be lovely with maintenance, up-dating, and effective ventilation, and more careful attention to cleanliness. The ladders are scary but kids would probably love them. Rodent entries into house should be checked and blocked. Also, humane traps could be used outside to catch mice. I hope the owners decide to fix this place up because I would return if they did.

Likes: 1. The place…read moreis clean and organized. 2. Very good for groups or family. 3. Walking distance to Mount Rainier entrance... great opportunity to take those "Mount Rainier" sign photos. 4. Jacuzzi!!! 5. We saw roaming deers just at the parking area which is a plus. 6. A lot of video tape movies just in case when you are bored. 7. Price is reasonable. Dislikes: 1. No TV signal! Ugh. We are in a vacation but I like to watch some late night shows and morning news. This is a heart breaker. I think when I go back to Mt. Rainier for overnight, I'd rather stay at the hotel right at the visitor's center. That's just me. It's not an apple to apple though - price wise. Otherwise Westwood Chalet is good enough.

Beautiful, clean, fully equipped cabin on the river that we will return too! We had a family cabin…read moreweekend at the Three Bears Lodge in January. It was absolutely wonderful! The four bedrooms were set up perfectly for our family that only includes one pre-teen. This place is excellent and well worth the money. It is a private, secluded lodge situated in a spot that is right before the entrance to Mt Rainier. The stream running through the backyard created a serene environment and the hot tub was perfectly set against it. Be careful with that hot tub in the snow - once you get in, you may not be able to get out! :) There are some disadvantages that you should know about. The water pressure in the bathroom was very weak. The power went off 3x, we called the numbers listed in the book and they eventually returned our calls a few hours later. Beautiful location, beautiful cabin, wonderful weekend!

We booked the Lazy Bears cabin for ourselves, 4 kiddos, and my mother as a family trip (7 people…read moretotal). The ad/description/pics online make the place look very sharp and clean. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we noticed a note on the front of the dishwasher that said "out of service". Okay, no biggie... *trying to be understanding as things happen*. Entered the cabin further and noticed pretty peculiar smells throughout (I thought, well, its a cabin in the PNW, so I imagine it may smell peculiar and soggy from time to time). As I tried to reason that the cabin was worth the $370ish we spent per night, I was proven more and more during our stay as to why that wasn't the case... Tried to turn on the fireplace in the main house, doesn't work. Shower spout is falling off, possibly black mold in the smaller bathroom located by the front door, walls are extremely dirty (especially in high touch areas and behind the garbage cans). Cobwebs in the corners, dead bugs hanging from the light fixtures, igniter on the BBQ doesn't work, couches were sticky and smelled odd, white towels were noticably dirty even though they were washed, beds were so uncomfortable and horrible that we left a day early... The good part of this trip is that we did spend time as a family and played some pool, hiked Mt. Rainier, and enjoyed some down time. Pool table was a great thing to have access to during our stay. The creek in the back is very beautiful in the early morning/late afternoon...but that's about it. I would not return and would not recommend others to stay here & spend this type of money per night until the owners choose to put some TLC into the place to improve its current state. Also, if you are looking for a secluded place to stay, this one isn't it. The Lazy Bears cabin is located in a small-ish community/HOA with many neighbors nearby.
