Through the process of elimination they figured out that the problem was electrical.  They guided me through getting an electrician over and spoke to the electrician while he was here.  Arranged to have my septic pumped.   And will be back when all the repairs are made.   They were very concerned that i had to go through a day without water and did everything possible. I haven't had to call very many plumbers in my lifetime, but when I have, they've taken years to get to my place and the workers we always border-line rude. But when my roommate decided to pour enough spaghetti to feed an army down the disposal, we needed assistance. Stat. The employee who came over from Gary's was great - friendly and helpful. These guys were tremendous. They showed up a little late without letting me know ahead of time. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5. Once they were there, though, they did great work and saved us a bundle of money vs. a previous plumber, who had told us he'd need to dig up our meter at the street and replace a valve. Gary's looked at it and said, "That's EWEB's job." It didn't stop there, though. They called EWEB and had them out there in less than an hour. All in all, I was very satisfied with their work. They even stopped back by to tweak a small detail. I would say I was a bit put off by some comments by the plumber. He let my wife know all of his thoughts about gun control. Whether we agreed or not, it wasn't appropriate and made her uncomfortable. Not so much that we wouldn't have them back though. They did great work. read more

The lady on the other end was having a conversation with someone else as I was trying to explain what was wrong with my water heater. This is the most unprofessional business I've ever worked with. The filthy, un-groomed, young men that came into my home to complete three very simple tasks (run a hose to the fridge, and replace two hose bibs) took them ALL DAY to do at $130/hr. They knew what the job was in advance but showed up without parts and took 2.5 hours to acquire them from Lowes-charging me more than $200 for parts alone. They said they would stay around the $200 range for the entire job then presented me with a final bill for over $700. When I went to the business address to talk with Gary about the bill, I didn't even get out of my car before Gary himself told me to "Get the f**k off his property" along with a string of many other obscenities without even knowing who I was. The address I went to is listed as his business address on Yelp. I called and left a message asking to speak with Gary and was told he would return my call that evening. He didn't. Instead, he drove from Veneta to Eugene to cash my check after 5 p.m. on the same day! Unreasonable, unethical, unreliable. Beware! read more

BEWARE!!! STRONGLY SUGGEST AVOIDING THIS BUSINESS!!! These folks brought one of their service vans to us requesting we complete a tune-up using their supplied parts. We completed the requested tune-up and found the van still ran very poor. The vehicle also had a check engine light and needed further work to determine additional issues and make the vehicle run correctly, which they declined. They wrote us a check for the work they requested and picked up the vehicle. Shortly after that, they stopped payment on the check. Obviously from the reviews I have read and what they did to my small business, they think the world owes them a living. We did not conduct business with these guys in any way. I am the renter of a home through a landlord and we contacted him needing repair on our plumbing. I felt the need to go out of my way and write a review about them. They were very thorough and complete with everything they did, our toilets were unable to be flushed and the downstairs shower was overflowing!! When they arrived in the morning they were there until about 3 PM and from that point on there weren't any issues. Thank you very much you guys. The only negative I'd mention is their demeanor is not the friendliest but I can imagine plumbing isn't exactly the most fun to do, especially on a house full of college guys. read more

This was one of the most unprofessional businesses that I've ever worked with. They gave me a 2 hour window in the late morning for my appointment and when they weren't there after that time, I was told they were finishing another job. I completely understand that people get behind in their schedules but I then had to call three more times to find out when someone would be there and was given the run around each time. After sitting around waiting nearly all day I finally had to cancel the appointment so I could make it to another appointment on time. read more

We had a really good experience with this company. Our home warranty company got them set up to unplug our toilet and shower, and although the warranty guys kind of shafted us and wouldn't pay our claim, the guy Gary's sent out, named Travis, gave us some options to try to keep the price down. Travis and his helper were professional and friendly, and once we got everything straight, did the job in just a few minutes. Honorable mention to the phone lady at Gary's, named Mary. She was nice and professional, and I felt like our business was welcome, whether it was a contact job, or as it turned out, private pay. Would recommend Gary's, and definitely would call them again. CCB license no. 174640 (plus has one other affiliated license number). RUN from this company. I hired them to do a commercial sewer rehab on a 12-unit apartment building. The job took 5 weeks instead of 2. Workers showed up late, left early, or not at all. I found out after the job was completed that there was NEVER a journeyman plumber on site during the entire job (as the law requires); the entire job was done by apprentices. One of them told me privately, later, that inferior hookups were used to save the contractor money, even tho the parts used were commonly known to cause problems down the road. This was for a job in the low 5 figures, by the way. They upset my tenants so bad that I had to give 2 of them a free months rent AND I was contacted by a lawyer and threatened with a lawsuit for the actions of the plumbers. read more

Grossly incompetent staff, no idea of quality of work b/c nobody ever came. We needed a plumber when our pipes burst during a deep freeze on a Monday. All plumbers in town are crazy busy because of historic cold. I get that, fine. We call Gary's late on Monday, they schedule us for "mid afternoon" Tuesday. OK. My wife calls early Tuesday morning to confirm. Receptionist remembers talking to my wife Monday, but "forgot to put us on schedule." We're assured that we'll be on the schedule for later that day. I call periodically to alert them that we're leaving the house to eat (b/c all water shut off due to burst pipes), asking if they have any idea when to expect a visit. Nope, they can't give an estimate, could be any time; very soon or much later, the woman on the phone has no idea. It was my wife's 50th birthday and we were essentially trapped in the house waiting for a plumber who never came. I finally called (again) around 5:30 pm and confirmed nobody coming that day and rescheduled for Wednesday. I should note that each time I called throughout the day, the woman on the phone had no idea who I was and required I re-explain the entirety of our situation. Happily, shortly thereafter, my wife flagged down Tom, from Tom's plumbing (607-8879) who was working on a neighbor's house. He came over after finishing there, assessed the problem and scheduled for the next day for repair. I called Gary's the next day to cancel. Again the woman on the phone required that I completely re-explain who I was and what house I was calling about. Tom came over and fixed the problem as promised, he also kept us informed throughout the day of his schedule. Note to Gary's, it can be done. Finally, on Friday, the same woman from Gary's calls me back and asks if we still need a plumber!!!! This is 3 days after we were scheduled and 2 days after I cancelled! Had we stuck it out with Gary's, it is clear that we would have been strung along for 3 days before a plumber arrived, never knowing if a repair was imminent or not; in essence, we would have been stuck in a house with no water for 4 days waiting for a repair that wasn't coming. I understand that this cold snap has caused a huge backlog of plumbing work. However, that does not excuse an incapacity to perform basic scheduling and properly inform customers of their place in line.The woman on the phone sounds young (it was always the same person) and is perhaps over-matched by the requirements of her job. The plumbers at Gary's may be great, but I'll never know because the support staff is completely incompetent. read more

Had appointment with Gary to unplug drain. After waiting 3 hours, with no call from him, I called him at 6:00 pm. He said he had emergency at another house but said he could make it over to fix my drain after 6:00pm. I said ok. Then I called him back to make sure he wasn't going to charge me extra since it was after 6pm. He said yes! It would be time and a half! Even though he was 3 hrs. late, didn't call to say he would be late, and made me sit in my house waiting for 3 hrs. AND he didn't say anything about charging time and a half until I called back and asked! read more

When I originally called to set up the service call, the woman I spoke with gave me a range of 10 am - 12 pm, I explained that I had to work at noon and was assured that the repair person would be at my home at 10 am. After waiting 15 minutes I called, but the voicemail said "memory full" and I wasn't able to leave a message. After 35 minutes I called again and was told, without any apology, that they were stuck at a large job and they would not be at my home for some time. I explained that I had one problem that was emergent (a leaking kitchen faucet) that I needed fixed today and one less emergent (shower head) that I would need to talk to the repairman to describe what needed to be done. I let her know that if this required a second trip (if I was not able to describe it over the phone), I didn't want to pay a second service call. The woman I spoke with did not reply to that, but said that the repairman would call me when he was at our home. When the repairman called after noon, I was able to explain the issue sufficiently over the phone and thought all was well. At approximately 4 pm, I called home and my elderly mother who lives with me told me that they put in a new faucet and were able to fix my shower head. When I found out that they didn't leave the old faucet, I called Gary's Rooter and Plumbing and spoke with the woman who answered the phone that the old faucet was under warranty and I would like to get it back. She informed me that they still had it and would ask the repairman to set it aside. I offered to pick it up and she said he would drop it off at my house. It took approximately 2 weeks before it was returned. When I got home, I found a bill for $534.20 for an uncomplicated job that took about 2 hours, possibly including travel time for parts. We were charged for parts that weren't replaced or that I told the repairman I didn't need. They replaced the kitchen faucet that was less than a year old and did not leave warranty information on the new faucet. After taking a trip to Home Depot, I priced out the parts that they did use and found that the retail costs for those parts totaled less than $155 while Gary's charged $284.20 for those same parts. Because I was too angry to talk with them rationally, I drafted a letter citing my concerns and called Gary's Rooter and Plumbing for the address. The phone was picked up by a man who identified himself as Gary. After giving me the address, Gary identified himself as the owner and asked who I was and if he could help me. I explained that I would be sending a letter outlining some concerns. I asked for his last name which he refused to give me, stating "I go by Gary's Rooter and Plumbing". I sent the letter sent via USPS certified mail which was returned to me after the max hold time expired. Even if the faucet did need to be replaced, we were overcharged by a considerable amount. This is either very poor business practices or a blatant effort to take advantage of an elderly woman. I've filed a complaint with the Construction Contractors Board (I'd recommend checking with them before hiring any contractor, ph # 503-378-4621), but it is likely to not be accepted because they don't generally handle billing disputes. I've also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I would highly recommend NOT using Gary's Rooter and Plumbing! read more

After taking full payment, a year ago now, the work they got paid to do is still not finished. Today I was told they weren't coming back out to finish either! All my plumbing lines are laying on the ground under the house, they didn't secure them to the house like they are supposed to or insulate them like they said they'd do, my kitchen drain goes downhill then back uphill so there's no way for the waste water to drain properly and another line that was supposed to be changed out never got done. If you like to pay 220 dollars "just for showing up at the worksite" choose Gary's! One extremely cold Sunday morning I thought that my water heater finally had died. I called Gary's Rooter & Plumbing and the sent their crew over. Three hours later- just before they arrived I tested my water and it was hot again...I must have completely run out of hot water. I meant to call but there they were walking down the pathway to my unit. Before the guys even set foot into my home I told them that everything was fine and I didn't need their service. One of the guys said: "Well, while we are here let's check things and make sure everything works." I thought that he was just nice to an older lady but then charged me $210.00 dollars (Igot a $10.00 "discount"). I called the owners and complained as I would not have let them "check things over" if they would have told me upfront what they would charge me for that. I was told that the crew "did what they are supposed to do" and confirmed that "we charge $220.00 on Sundays - just for showing up at the work site". I am sorry, but this is BAD BUSINESS! I would have gladly paid a fee for gas and travel time but to charge me $210.00 for showing up at the work site is outrageous and simply BAD BAD BUSINESS!!! I had called on 2/16/2015 to get service on a busted pipe in my bathroom, I scheduled an appointment a week later 02/23/2014. They gave me the option of having my appointment from 8 am - 12 pm or from 12 pm - 4 pm. I selected the 8 am appointment. On the appointment day at 9 am they were still not there so I gave them a call and they said they would be to at my home at 3 pm. The lady made it seem like I had accepted the 12 pm - 4 pm time frame until I made it clear that I had the correct time written down and had planned my day according to that appointment time. She finally admitted that they had an "Emergency" and wouldn't be done working on that non-scheduled appointment until 3 pm. When I asked for an explanation, the owner in the back screamed "just find someone else to do it" and I did just that. It is clear that they work on the basis of which job pays more, not on providing excellent customer experience. Kevin Cohen Pluming was the right solution and I would recommend calling them if your reading this. They are $5.00 more an hour but I will pay that extra for better service. When I called to cancel my original appointment the lady said, "that's fine Ken" and then hung up one me. I recently called this business to install some sinks in my home. The sinks were rather complicated so I needed a professional. The plumber who came to my home was in no way professional. The man who came to my home without a doubt was trying to take me for over 200 dollars. I am a 20 year old woman and I was scared and intimidated by this man. When I questioned his bill he began to speak to me with obscenities and threatened to take me to court for simply questioning the math. I was honestly scared in my own home. My family called the company several times to talk about the situation with the owner and we never heard back. No one deserves to be threatened, cursed at or to have to deal with dishonest workers. I will never use this company again and I would highly suggest that you are not home alone if you do choose this company. read more

Unfortunately, I can not leave a very good review for this company. Their representative was very friendly and knowledgeable when he came out to give me a bid. I own a business and have 3 catch basins. We were told it would by 275.00 to jet our storm drain lines and then 150.00 per catch basin to clean, if that was needed. This was a Friday night so we discussed when the least intrusive time to come would be. Jeremy (the employee) said that they would come on Monday at Noon. Monday morning we had our 20+ employees move their vehicles from our parking lot. Monday came and went and no one showed up and no phone call was made. We called the company on Tuesday and were informed that Jeremy had called out sick so they couldn't make but they would come on Thursday at Noon. Our employees once again accommodated by moving their vehicles. No one showed up until after 2pm. They cleaned the catch basins without notifying me that they were doing so (we had just authorized the line jetting), I was fine with this because I am sure it needed to be done. Jeremy showed me some concrete that was found in the catch basin and again was very professional. At 3:30 I noticed that the crew was just waiting around and not really working, I went out to investigate and was told they were waiting for the parking lot traffic to clear and that the jetting process would take 20 minutes or so. I explained that traffic was going to increase drastically at 4pm and they should start work immediately to avoid the increase. They finished what they could and said they would come back the next day to finish the 3rd catch basin. I explained when our high traffic times again (this was gone over in the initial meeting. On Friday when they finished I was given an invoice for $1000.00!!!! I was expecting the invoice to be $725.00 (150.00 x 3 + 275.00) instead they charged the 150.00 x 3 and then I was billed for 4 jettings at 137.50 (this was not at all what was quoted). It took over 4 days of phone calls to the company (messages were left) and no return call was ever made. We are still trying to sort out the price difference. I was out of town and it was a Sunday when the pipe broke. Gary's said they could come out and tell me what went wrong and how to get it fixed. That sounded good but, it went south from there. Once their representative was on site, he couldn't tell me more than the renters had already reported. But that didn't stop him from hanging around for over an hour, at double time, talking with my tenants. Eventually he said he would have to dig up the yard to find the leaky pipe and it would cost $3,000!! I fired him and hired a reputable plumbing company that found and fixed the problem for less than $325. Yes, their ad says they work Sundays but he did no work and left me $400 poorer. read more

If you're tired of companies with good customer service, Gary's would be a good change. They scheduled me for a same-day repair, and gave me an hour-long window for the arrival of the plumber. I specifically asked to be notified of any delay, as I was preparing to go out of town, and needed to let a friend know when to expect me. The receptionist promised to have the guy call, and also told me about all the things that might happen to cause a delay (which didn't inspire confidence). However, I never got a phone call, and I never saw a plumber. I called the office number to inquire, and the phones had been turned over to voicemail before 4pm. read more

A hour and 42 minutes late 2 calls to office, no apology, no explanation....$100 charge tacked on that was never discussed (charge removed), crawl space cover not replaced, hole where pipe was not covered although in estimate it was stated that everything would be covered up and capped. Crew did not use drop clothes or pad to set their tools on, just right on wood floor and in and outside with water on their shoes etc. Guys were not informed of what the job was prior to arrival....came ready to fix leak in the wall, that was not task at all. Very, very disappointed. Had referred to coworkers based upon phone conversation with both a technician and the scheduling person as well as the person who gave the estimate. Will correct recommendation and remove this company as my go to plumber! Now I have to go out in the rain and lightning and deal with my open crawl space!!!! read more

My issues with Gary's was due to lack of communication. They failed to show up the first day they were supposed to come due to another job they were still working. However, I never received a call letting me know. I called and left a message. The next day I called (Sunday) the lady informed me they had been stuck at another job when they were supposed to show up. So we scheduled for them to come the next day. The next day they were over an hour late and no call to inform. Not the biggest of deals, but it would have been nice to know. The day after, they were late again, no call. Then they were supposed to get a bid to me that night. I didn't get their bid until two days later, but I had already hired another plumber. They were friendly and seemed they would be competent in doing the job, but the lack of communication showed a lack of consideration. I'm pretty easy to please and really don't like giving out bad reviews to people who seem generally honest, but they must fix some of their issues, or you are likely to experience the waiting and not knowing that we did. read more

Hiring Gary's Rooter Service was likely the worst experience with any business I've ever had. I called them to clear a clogged drain. The worker who showed up had a hurt shoulder, and was cursing a lot about having to work when he tried to call in injured. While he was on the phone with the dispatch, he appeared very angry, cursing a lot. At one point he pulled the phone away from his ear, leaned toward me and said "this stupid b**ch, man". I was very weirded out by the complete lack of professionalism, but wasn't going to wait for a different plumber. He wasn't able to life the drain snake, so I offered to carry it for him in and out of my house. I really just wanted to get the job done and have my drain working again. Being injured, it took him a very long time, and I had to help move the snake a number of times. After the ordeal was over, I called the office to see if I could get a discount, since I do a portion of the work I paid for myself. Instead, I was put on hold, and Gary himself got on the phone. He proceeded to yell and cuss me out, and then hung up on me. I called back to try to calm things down, while still pursuing a discount of some kind. He cussed me out even worse (no joke, he was extremely foul), hung up on me again. I tried to call again to talk to someone else, but my number was blocked from calling them. Never in a million years did I think a business owner would cuss out a customer like this, but it happened here at Gary's Ruder service. Run away, folks. These guys are plain scary. read more

My one and only experience with this company was downright scary. The employee came to my door arguing on the phone with what I believe to be the office receptionist. After cussing her out on the phone, he hung up and said to me "what a whore!" and chuckled, thinking I'd find that abuse of his co-worker funny. I told him my house was shoeless (we have a toddler and a newborn crawling about), and asked him to take off his shoes or wear boot covers. He basically told me to be quiet if I want my drain fixed, because he had 100 other jobs to do today. The machine he brought in the house leaked a bunch of stinky unknown brownish fluid all over my house. When i asked him about what i thought to be dripping sewage from his tool on my carpet, he ignored me, finished his job, ran to his truck and handed me a bill. As he walked away I heard him say (loud enough for me to hear) "lucky I even fixed your drain, you f**king dumb**s!" No joke. I wouldnt trust these guys in my house ever again. I would have asked him to leave before even starting had I not been so desparate to get my drain fixed. read more
