I must update the 2018 review. I visited this location again on August 29, 2025. I purchased the buttery popcorn and it was stale. The popcorn I have shipped taste fresh and is much better than what I received at this location. There was no line, so I was in and out. Thinking I was receiving a freshly popped that day treat, I was disappointed when I arrived to my hotel to discover the popcorn was stale. There was no way this was made fresh, I will stick to online ordering, yes it is more expensive, but I have not been disappointed in what I receive via shipping. Flew in yesterday for a conference, checked in, dumped my bags and headed out to Garretts off Michigan. Oh man, the smell when you walk in is a warm delicious hug. Last month, I placed my first order from Garrett Popcorn Shops. I had my shipment sent to the hotel that I was staying at in Eagan, MN. The from address on the box matched this store. Before this shipment, I normally got my Garrett Popcorn fix travelling through Chicago O'Hare International Airport. I typically get a large bag of caramel crisp popcorn at a Garrett's store before I take my last flight segment home. I decided to join Garrett's mailing list. For Valentine's Day, it had a special on a tin bundle. It included a classic tin containing Chicago (caramel and cheese) popcorn mix and a petite tin that had chocolate popcorn. It was at a reduced price and shipping was free. Sold! I am a regular guest at a hotel in Eagan. Staff are used to my shipping one or two packages to the hotel each time I stay there. Sure enough. this shipment made it there a day before I had arrived. I fetched it on Valentine's Day from the front desk. When you get tins, the option to choose your tin design is there. Although the traditional blue stripes would have been nice, I went with the pink stripe scheme. The tins were so beautiful that I debated whether to toss them or bring them back. I chose the latter. They travelled well in my luggage. They are perfect for storage, and protect your precious popcorn or whatever in them. On Garrett's online site, it has recommendations for reusing the tins. Using them for succulents was one suggestion. I'm thinking that you'd need to drill holes at the bottom for drainage. Obviously, clean them first! Anyway, during my five days in Eagan, followed by a couple of days in Winnipeg, I snacked on both the Chicago and chocolate mixes. The former had the best buttery caramel and cheesy popcorn. The chocolate was so good and surprisingly not ridiculously sugary. I drove a lot. I recommend snacking on popcorn on road trips. As a popcorn fan, Garrett's is the best. I stopped by close to closing on a Tuesday night, the staff was friendly but seemed concerned when I ordered three jumbo bags of cheese corn and a large bag of Garrett mix. They have a big sign up that says it's for immediate consumption- I'm not sure if this is new. They don't have to worry, we're frequent Garrett popcorn customers and we've bought many bags to bring home as well as many tins online shipped right to our house. I will say the bags that are packed at the airport have been more tightly packed both filling wise and the way they twist up the top to keep is sealed. Maybe the person helping me was newer, or maybe they really just wanted me to eat the popcorn right away. I already dropped off the Garrett mix with my grandparents who are loving it and the cheddar will be devoured by my husband as soon as I get home. I highly recommend giving it a try if you've never been. If you are flying out of Chicago you can also find stands in the airport. Great location. Since this shop is smaller, they only allow so many people in here at a time, which is no big deal. There is a note on the door stating that only so many people can be inside at a time. Well, some people don't read and so the staff in always just yelling to those people to close the door.
