Every time I pass through O'Hare I stop here as they have some of the best popcorn you will ever have! I've been here soo many times over the years and it never disappoints I've honestly left another terminal to come here to get popcorn yeah it's that good so do yourself a favor and get some it's totally worth it! I've always gotten the classic Chicago mix as me being stubborn and only getting this once in a while you gotta go with what you know lol. Been here before years ago. I remember it tasting better back then! Anyway I purchased a combination of low salt and butter popcorn, and also the Carmel / cheese combo popcorn. I got to my hotel to enjoy the butter low salt popcorn and it was stale!! Booo!! So disappointed. I opened the Carmel and cheese package the next day and it too was stale tasting. Butter popcorn- expected this to be my favorite, but was a bit less salty and more just buttery. Decent, but I prefer movie theater popcorn. Cheese popcorn- freaking addicting. A new tradition has begun. Any layover time at O'Hare will involve a stop at Garrett's. Sounds nuts but try the caramel and cheese. I never would've combined the two, but they did and it's really good. Lotsa other options, too. You're bound to find something appealing! The popcorn tasted just as good the next day. Provided you seal out as much air as possible. Fair warning: they have a long line that doesn't move the fastest. If you're pressed for time, look at one of the kiosks in the terminal. They have pre-packaged bags waiting for you. The girls were very helpful and patient. It's the people in line that can be a challenge. Super convenient location! When I passed during my outbound, there was a line and I didn't have a very long layover so decided to pass. I did, however, make sure to stop by on my return flight. Service was super quick. Price wasn't terribly high for the airport and a delicious snack. They were super organized which I appreciated so much (being in a rush AGAIN because of a short layover!). By the time I got to the register, she already rung up my item and was ready for payment! Will definitely get it again. Warning, the caramel is a bit oily so be sure to grab napkins. read more

When one finds oneself during a layover at O'Hare, there are four pro moves, in my opinion, that help the hours go by. Assuming you are not in a private lounge. These tips are not for you. Go back to enjoying being elite while the rest of us have to get creative ;) Tip number one. Go for a long walk. O'Hare is a massive labyrinthine airport. I had a 5 hour layover. Spend as much time walking and exploring. It's essential for your mental and physical stamina. Tip number two. Do you see all the flight crew members toting around striped Garrett Popcorn bags? They suffer no fools. Find a Garrett Popcorn stand and ask to sample their wares. Buy the biggest sized bag - trust me. The Chicago mix (caramel and cheddar cheese) still tasted good a week later. High marks for the sea salt as well. Be the envy of your seat mates on the next leg of your flight, plus it makes a terrific gift. Tip number three: Find the open air rotunda. Go up the stairs. There you will find a quiet and peaceful lounge, with an array of seating options, desks, and outlets and blessedly, not many people. You will also discover a yoga studio. I spent 20 minutes doing sun salutations all by myself. Get yourself rebalanced again. Tip number four. This brings me to Tortas Frontera. Absolutely delicious options, but most especially, the tacos. Don't forget copious amounts of hand sanitizer, because you'll be licking your fingers. They also serve margaritas in to-go cups. Now, those are $17 bucks a pop, but at least they were generous with the tequila. Order a second to take with you on your plane. When the gate agent asks if there is alcohol, politely smile and say "No, ma'am". Happy travels! read more

We were headed back home to Austin at the O'Hare airport and noticed they had the yummy Chitown popcorn-Garretts on the way to our gate, so we had to stop and gets some small bags of the Chicago mix and picked up a new one that was pecan. Its a tiny spot to get a quick order of some popcorn and you can choose to get them in there Souvenir Tins as well. It's well worth the stop and glad they have them in the airport now. A Chicago treat for over 70 years, I really had to try Garrett's. Even one of my coworkers said it was a must during my last layover at O'hare. The line wasn't too long. So while I waited my turn, I scoped out which kind to try. There were quite a few variations. I chose Pecan CarmelCrisp. It was very rich and crisp and the pecans broke up the sweetness! Service wasn't the friendliest but the cashier did smile back at me. All in all, service was quick and efficient. I've been to Chicago a couple of times, and I've heard that Garrett popcorn is one of the things to get when you visit. I've wanted to try it but thought, how good can popcorn get? My bf convinced me last time not to get it since it looked like a tourist trap, but I was still always curious. When I had the chance to visit for a day, I decided to get a bag at the airport before leaving the city. It ended up being a good last minute decision. I got to the airport a little before 7:00am which is when the stand opens. I sat down nearby to wait but saw that a line was already forming before they were ready. I decided to get in line before it got longer. Of course, if this was going to be my first time here, I wanted the fan-favorite Garrett mix: caramel popcorn and cheese popcorn. I ended up ordering a medium bag of it. It tried one of each before packing it away in my bag. The caramel and cheese popcorn surprisingly went well together. I think I may have even tried this popcorn back when I was a child, but it certainly wasn't as fresh and airy as this. When I got back to my bf's place, I offered him some. I think the only regret I had ordering from Garrett's Popcorn was not getting a larger size. My bf was as addicted as I was...maybe even more so. He took back all the things he said about this popcorn being a tourist trap. We both preferred the caramel popcorn from the mix but despite that, I still wouldn't get a bag of just caramel. The sharpness of the cheese really complements the sweetness of the caramel. The price of the popcorn is pretty darn good for the amount you get. Needless to say, definitely grab a bag of Garrett popcorn before you leave Chicago. I will be buying more on my next trip. read more

Last month, I was flying home from Minneapolis through Chicago O'Hare (ORD) International Airport. I had arrived at a C gate and needed to get to a B gate for my final flight segment home. When I got to the B concourse, I saw Garrett Popcorn Shops. Chicago mix is the popcorn flavour that Chicago is known for. There was a lineup at this stand. It was a sign that I should get some popcorn. I LOVE popcorn. Two flight attendants that were on my flight from Minneapolis lined up. They would definitely know what's good if they are always working this flight segment. Garrett has a ton of popcorn sizes in both bags and tins. The two flight attendants were debating getting the jumbo. Holy cow! If you can picture a long body pillow, the jumbo is that size where you can go to sleep hugging it. I feel like it may be a challenge storing it in the overhead compartment of any plane and that I'd need to get a plane ticket for it. It's funny, but I was in a caramel popcorn mood for my entire trip. I got a medium bag of CaramelCrisp popcorn. I was looking forward to trying it out. Staff at this store are efficient. I ordered. I then got a Diet Pepsi. I paid with a credit card and all was great. I thanked both women and happy walked across to my gate. I still had time before boarding. I sat down and munched on my popcorn. There were a few cheese ones accidentally mixed in. I was delighted getting a mini bonus of the Chicago mix. The CaramelCrisp was excellent. OMG! I was practically inhaling the stuff. The popcorn was crisp with the perfect amount of caramel coating on each popped piece of popcorn. So good! My mouth is watering as I reminisce about this popcorn. I finished my popcorn the next day back in the greater Toronto area. It was so yummy. Maybe I should go jumbo like the flight attendants. Between Garrett and Nuts on Clark, I prefer the former more. The edge is with the crispness of the popcorn. However, if I see the latter, I'm not going to say no to decent popcorn. This find was wonderful. First, the guy helping me was talking on his phone the whole time. I had to tell him three times, while he was going back and forth on his phone, I wanted the tin with "CHEDDAR" only. He then goes and fills the tin. Taped it shut. So I purchased dark chocolate pecans and figured okay I'll eat the popcorn when I get home.
