Stopped in before heading to the airport. We advised the guy working that we were heading back to California and taking popcorn home for friends and family. We asked if we could have some fresh since we would be traveling. The guy was kind and obliged and brought some out of the back. He filled the bags to the rim with Chicago mix and was barely able to close the bags. About 3 hours later when I got on the plane, I opened a bag and had a few pieces of popcorn - it was SO STALE, to the point where it should not have been sold! No way this popcorn could have gotten this stale that fast. It was disappointing because I had to throw all of the popcorn that I bought away. It was not edible. I spent over $100 - what a waste. I was in the Hyde park area - i recommend if you're buying to take home, buy it at the airport - they are more equipped for travelers..

I was in Chicago for a work trip. A friend told me I HAD to find a Garrett's Popcorn and pick up a bag. So I searched near my hotel and this shop was only a 2 min walk. The ladies working there were so sweet and welcoming to me while I asked all the questions and tried the flavors. The popcorn was AMAZING!!!! Oh I wish there was a Garrett's closer to me. The flavors were mouthwatering and the perfect combination of crunchy and soft, sweet and savory. I ended up getting a mixed bag of classic caramel, strawberry white chocolate (limited valentines edition), and dark chocolate. I got a medium bag and had to resist the urge to eat the whole thing in one sitting. It lasted a few days, but phewww it was epic!! If I get to go back Chicago again, Garrett's will be a MUST.

Mixture of Classic Carmel, White Chocolate Strawberry, and Dark Chocolate! A yummy surprise in every bite!

A friend suggested that this is a MUST when visiting Chicago! If you are staying at the Hyatt Place Chicago-South/University Medical Center, walk the block and get your popcorn fix! You are very close to Harold Park! Get your popcorn and head to the park to stroll those calories off guilt free at the Park! We got the "Mixture of Classic Carmel, White Chocolate Strawberry, and Dark Chocolate!" It was AMAZING! If you are ever visiting Chicago, be sure to get at least one bag to say you have actually visited Chicago the right way! Most Sincerely

This mural near the counter is a brilliant ode to Hyde Park.

I was so surprised to see them in the area. Maybe I should read my local papers, I saw NO advertising that they were gonna be on 53rd street. But I admit I am not in that area very much. It was quiet when I went in but it picked up by the time I left. The mural on the wall depicting Chicago neighborhoods was a nice touch. The staff was quick and professional, even let me sample the caramel with pecan popcorn! It was so good but I didn't want sugar I wanted salt. The cheese and plain salted in separate bags hit the spot. Both tasted fine but by day 2 the plain was kind of soft. The cheese stood up ok, and was better than in recent years. I can't wait til they get the hot cheese flavors in. I saw Frango Mints in there as well, and my grab some for early holiday shopping.

Talk about a Chicago staple! I grew up on this pop-corn. I had no idea there was a location in Hyde Park. The store is on a bustling street and was somewhat kind of busy. The popcorn is ok! It doesn't give that back in the day nostalgic taste. The cheese was fresh out but not sure about the Carmel. Anyway still a place I would recommend for tourists, or natives thats just never experienced it. I usually go with the "CHICAGO MIX" (carmel and cheese piop corn togetehr). For that nostalgia you night have to go to the Randolph location doentown. Be prepared for the greasy hands, lol

This comes in a set of 3 mini sizes. Staff was super accommodating and very patient with my decision paralysis of trying to choose flavors. They had great recommendations and our order was up quickly. Tried the hazelnut, semi sweet, and cardamom rose. Really enjoyed it! The marshmallows are also house made and were delish! Tried the truffle of the week, Baileys and they also had a line of brewery inspired flavors, so I tried the Clementine Cider. One also random star of the show is the well stocked washroom! Equipped with ample space, changing table, baby wipes, diapers, sanitary pads and tampons. Kudos for being well stocked for all the ladies and mamas out there! Can't wait to come back to try the other drinking chocolates!

I opted to try the goat cheese walnut dark chocolate while they prepared my drinking chocolate. My candy was delicious and goat cheese pair well with the chocolate. For my drinking chocolate, I got the Koval Bourbon Drinking Chocolate with Salted Caramel Marshmallow. It was fantastic and a nice warm up to frigid temperatures outside. All in all, a good way to warm up. Lots of options for food. On this occasion it was pretty packed but everyone was in jolly moods considering the holiday season.

Most assorted boxes had chocolates with something inside. I was looking for something more pure. Our friend bought two smaller (9 pieces each, I believe) boxes. When we saw him next, he had tried a piece or two and mentioned they were very good. We found Mint Batons in the sale section. Originally $12 each (using my memory here), the Mint Batons were on sale for $4.50. I bought three. I like that they are just chocolate, for the most part. They are delicious and they scratch the itch I've been having for another dark chocolate mint candy. If we were to return (we don't live in Chicago), I'd try some of the filled chocolates. Also, they sell hot chocolate... and I mean hot chocolate. Okay this is touch, but why reinvent the wheel. The call it drinking chocolate. I LOVE this idea and will definitely partake if we return.

Upon entering the establishment, I was very impressed with how gorgeous the place is; it's perfectly curated with living plants, rich brown floors and wood shelving, beautiful light, and elegantly minimalistic packaging. There were vegan candy options in a variety of places, but we decided to gift ourselves an entire box of "Unbelievably Vegan" chocolates. So far, the ones we ate are delicious! One of my biggest pet peeves with vegan candy is that it's usually way too sweet, to the point where it actually hurts my teeth. These are totally different--they're super flavorful, rich, creamy, and not overly sweet at all. They are perfect for a self-care treat, but the chic boxes also make them a great gift. Oh, and the staff working here were wonderful! Tipping is optional, but they deserve it!

Everything is covered in soft velour and velvet and it's just beautiful! There's a great mural on the wall with different cute sayings painted on the leaves. I'll be sharing pictures of those so make sure you take a look! It's a little pricey for your average person but the quality of the chocolate which is from France and Germany makes it worth it! Their coffees come with a lot of options, some with very unique flavor combinations. I tried the rosemary caramel iced latte and I loved it! Which I was surprised by because I'm not usually a rosemary fan. They have a great variety of homemade marshmallows which I will also show you in the pictures, I can't resist a good marshmallow! So I had to try the brown butter marshmallows to bring home with me and oh my goodness! But the real winner for me was Homemade caramels! I would go back just for those! Especially the bacon one ! If you go there and try absolutely nothing else , get yourself a couple of those. you can thank me later ! The staff is super friendly and helpful! I also love that you can see back into the Candy Kitchen! So you know that all the Truffles and caramels and everything is prepared in-house and are super fresh and extra delicious! If you're ever near one of their many locations I encourage you to stop in! The coffee price point is actually very affordable, the truffle and marshmallow prices are truthfully probably comparable with like Godiva or Fannie May but they are made with much higher quality ingredients. Not someplace I would visit everyday, but definitely great for a special occasion! This would be a great business to visit for some sweet holiday treats! They have multiple shops! They have been known to run out though, so get there early if you can. They also have beautifully decorated bonbons, caramels, and chocolates, all with some really unique flavors I haven't seen anywhere else - check out the pictures to see some of them! I'd feel guilty eating the bonbons because they're so elegant, but they would make a fantastic gift. They make their matcha lattes using matcha powder that they also sell, and you can actually choose which matcha powder you want to try based on its profile. They have a chart that shows the matcha choices and their descriptions; I'll try to grab a picture of and post here the next time we go which will hopefully be soon, but someone may have already posted it. It's a small place so it can get busy and crowded quickly, especially since they're only open on the weekends. Everyone has been so nice and helpful whenever we go though, despite how busy they get! Can't wait until our next visit!
