A friend suggested that this is a MUST when visiting Chicago! If you are staying at the Hyatt Place Chicago-South/University Medical Center, walk the block and get your popcorn fix! You are very close to Harold Park! Get your popcorn and head to the park to stroll those calories off guilt free at the Park! We got the "Mixture of Classic Carmel, White Chocolate Strawberry, and Dark Chocolate!" It was AMAZING! I was in Chicago for a work trip. A friend told me I HAD to find a Garrett's Popcorn and pick up a bag. So I searched near my hotel and this shop was only a 2 min walk. The ladies working there were so sweet and welcoming to me while I asked all the questions and tried the flavors. The popcorn was AMAZING!!!! Oh I wish there was a Garrett's closer to me. The flavors were mouthwatering and the perfect combination of crunchy and soft, sweet and savory. I ended up getting a mixed bag of classic caramel, strawberry white chocolate (limited valentines edition), and dark chocolate. I got a medium bag and had to resist the urge to eat the whole thing in one sitting. It lasted a few days, but phewww it was epic!! If I get to go back Chicago again, Garrett's will be a MUST. read more

Talk about a Chicago staple! I grew up on this pop-corn. I had no idea there was a location in Hyde Park. The store is on a bustling street and was somewhat kind of busy. The popcorn is ok! It doesn't give that back in the day nostalgic taste. The cheese was fresh out but not sure about the Carmel. Anyway still a place I would recommend for tourists, or natives thats just never experienced it. I usually go with the "CHICAGO MIX" (carmel and cheese piop corn togetehr). For that nostalgia you night have to go to the Randolph location doentown. Be prepared for the greasy hands, lol read more

Went to this Garrett popcorn in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. Got a small butter and cheese mix maybe like four dollars and some change. I decided to eat it today. I haven't even had a 24 hours and it is completely stale. What a waste I could get a bag of okey-doke popcorn to taste better and then would've been much fresh... so I had to add this to the end of the review my Bestie was in town and she saw Garrett's popcorn while we were in Hyde Park going for lunch. She's like oh I gotta get some popcorn for my client, Back in, Dallas and myself only to talk to her the next day it was stale as ever also almost $30 on some stale popcorn terrible got to do better but I've never been a Garrett fan. read more

Came from Colorado and went with my entire family. Each and every bag was stale and old. I paid for all of that popcorn just to trash it. Very disappointed, will never return! Try a different location! read more

I was so excited to see a Garrett's Popcorn Shop in Hyde Park, but the first time I went, I asked for the "Chicago Mix" and the Cashier had no idea what I was talking about! To add insult to injury, they didn't have the mix and what I did get was stale! Today, I went to see if they had the "Chicago Mix" and they did. I got home and tasted the mix, only to be disappointed again! The popcorn was so stale that I couldn't even finish it. This will be my last time patronizing this location. Buyer beware! read more

This time, I was actually spending several days in Chicago, so it was only natural for my friend and me to swing by the first Garrett Popcorn Shop we found near our hotel to buy gifts for people at home. We stopped by the 173 N Michigan Avenue location, and there was no line at first (though there was when we were leaving). We saw a whole bunch of options from the Chicago-style Garrett Mix (caramel and cheddar) to Caramel Crisp, Cheese Corn, Almond Caramel Crisp, and Pecan Caramel Crisp. We decided it only made sense to get the Chicago-style Garrett Mix for everyone. The service was quick, and the employee helping us was helpful and walked us through the best deals to get the most items. We ended up getting $5 off (due to how much we ordered) plus got an additional discount due to the number we ordered, too. We chose tins for the ease of packing and travel, which is considered a part of the "Build Your Bundle" promotion. The hours at this location are generally 10 AM to 7 PM though that is subject to change. Like at many other stores, there were also options for Frango Chocolate mixed in or using the app or website for Skip the Line & Order Ahead options. They also provide for meetings and events. If you sign up on their website for their newsletter, you can earn $10 in savings. Since 1949, they have been creating special experiences for customers. As they state on their website, they are "more than just popcorn!" To me, it's a taste of Chicago!

The overall sandwich is RICH & HEAVY, even for a fattie like me, LOL. I ate half with a ton of water to wash it down, and ate the other half hours later. My leftovers tasted even better somehow. I am glad I was able to try it during my trip here. Are the wait times worth it for this? For me, personally, no. I wouldn't wait more than an hour. Unfortunately, the wait times are much longer than that! I got lucky, and a friend pre-ordered it for me.
