As soon as we entered, we were confused about what to do because it was crowded and lacked organization. I was thankful to beeline straight to the kiosk because there was no direction that you had to order at the kiosk, and then wait for your name to be called. There was possibly an option to order in front, but because there was a lack of organization, I could not tell if the line was to wait for flavors or to order. The layout of the establishment was also confusing. The service counter was located in the center of the place, which allowed for a back cove for people to enjoy their dessert. I believe this caused the main points of traffic because I don't believe people were aware of the cove and many waited in the front. One of the corners of the service counter is close to the wall which prevents people who are waiting in the back cove from getting to the counter to order. There are two entrances to this place, but one was heavily used due to its position on the main walkway. There were kiosks placed at the least used entrance but I don't believe people were aware those existed. If you want to visit this place, be aware that there is no physical menu displayed except for what you would find on the kiosk or online. Additionally, the flavors were floating around on a laminated sheet, so be prepared to have backups depending on the time you go. We had to wait for thirty minutes until we were able to pick our flavors. Despite the wait and lack of organization, the flavors met our expectations. Went for a late night treat around 10pm. Absolutely packed with no organization. We figured ordering was only happening at the kiosk, so we placed with no additional details given. No clear line, left to wait for name call. Heard the wait was 45 plus minutes from other guests with a line forming that stated an hr no order given. After waiting 20 minutes, we were refused service for coming in the wrong side (despite lack of signs and others being served there). We had to go restart the line on the other side (the register fyi, you cannot try before you buy); then go back to wait again for samples to decide. It took an hour to get through with an ice cream. What was frustrating was other walk-ins passed us and got samples before paying at register. It seriously depends on the server you get I guess. As to the ice cream mine was not in a flower shape, just a generic scoop. My daughter's was. The inconsistency is why I would not return. I've been wanting to try this rose ice cream for awhile, so I was pleasantly surprised that it was conveniently located across from the Art Institute and Millennium Park. The service was great overall. Everyone was very nice and helpful. They have a special allergy kit that they will get if you have an allergy, and it prevents cross contamination. Unfortunately they had added an extra flavor without asking, and I didn't think to list that flavor as an allergy (I was more concerned about nuts), so they had to scrape off the ice cream. The first time I tried this was a long time ago in Italy. I remembered it being amazing and I thought it was the best gelato ever. I was so happy to have stumbled on this shop in Chicago! It complimented well with the gelato. The store is super cute and decorated nicely. It's great for a date night or a special occasion. The customer service here is GREAT! Everyone was incredibly amicable. You can sample the flavors and even get UNLIMITED flavors in your cup/cone. Of course that means you get a smaller portion of each flavor as you increase the amount of flavors you get. I wish the sample sizes were a bit bigger because it was hard to taste the flavors with a tiny sliver. The employee who helped my family and me out was so patient and kind. We did try several flavors before deciding and he never looked annoyed or rushed us. Thank you! I also loved how we got complimentary hot cocoa before we left. That was really sweet and unexpected. I ordered a single scoop which came with 3 different flavors. I chose the mango, pistachio and some other flavor that I can't recall. The scoop came with a macaron and I chose the lychee rose flavored macaron. The shop had a cafe vibe to it with lots of seating. You order on a kiosk and they call you up to the gelato bar by the name that you put the order under. You're able to sample the flavors before adding it to your cup or cone. A lot of the flavors were a bit too sweet for my liking, and the flavors that I chose weren't as sweet. The macaron tasted exactly like lychee rose. Service was decent. Last week I stopped by Amorino on Michigan Ave and got the Signature Gianduiotto cone, & chose Pistachio, Chocolate, and Amarena (cream with black cherries) for my gelato flavors. First of all, the cone itself was gorgeous. They shaped the gelato into a flower, and it was almost too pretty to eat. The Gianduiotto in the center was beyond lovely. It had just the right amount of dark chocolate and melted in the mouth. All the flavors I chose were rich, smooth, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The store was pretty busy (obviously) and the ordering process was slightly confusing at first (you order and pay at a kiosk, then head to the counter once they call your name), but the staff was friendly and patient. Did not visit until very recently because this place is usually mobbed with tourists, but found this spot pleasantly empty on a weekday. I had the dulce de leche gelato in a cone in the kid's size, and my dining partner had the coconut in a small cup. Dulce de leche is one of my favourite flavours in general because it reminds me of a particular Indian sweet (khoya in Hindi; taratipaal in Tamil) in frozen form. The dulce de leche in Amorino had that same perfectly sweet and nutty caramel-like flavour. The kid's size cone was tiny, but the server managed to fit in quite a bit of gelato into the cone. My Italian dining partner, who claims not to have a single sweet tooth, said that the coconut he had at Amorino reminded him of the cocolimone he would eat in Rome. He quickly emphasized that Amorino was not situated on the same scale as his excellent and beloved Italian gelato shops, but that it was nevertheless quite good. The gelato was definitely not cheap, but in the context of filling a very specific craving, I thought it was money well-spent. The servers and people at the counter were amiable, and let us try a few flavours before we settled on what we wanted. The ambiance is super pretty, with comfortable seating. The dim orange light is quite relaxing. The location is right across from Millennium Park and steps from the Art Institute and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It is easily accessible by public transportation. I plan never to visit during the weekend or on any public holiday, and unless you are a tourist, would recommend that you follow the same guideline for a hassle-free experience. read more

One summer day in Chicago and this place was so packed. I've had their gelatos before and it was just incredible! Great flavours and so worth the long wait. We tried the Standard Cup: Pistachio, Hazelnut and Coconut. All 3 flavours were super delicious. Ambiance was small, 5-6 tables, considering the foot fall was so much. As the weather trends cooler, an unexpectedly warmer day demanded some gelato. Don't get me wrong, I've been here on more than one occasion. I've put this review off long enough, time to write! Amorino is a place that has very instagrammable cones that look like flowers! However, I haven't gotten my ice cream in a cone in years, for invariably, my hands become way too sticky! Another thing Amorino has going for it is even in their smallest cup, you can get unlimited flavors, though I've grown past my middle-school ways and learned that getting 10 flavors means everything combines into a nondescript, incohesive, modern interpretation of a flavor. All good and fine, but how are the flavors? While this may not be the best gelato I've ever had, the quality is apparent. I hold the dark chocolate in special regard, for they are not shy about letting the cacao shine! Where it comes to their coffee flavor, I do wish the coffee notes were a little stronger, and the coffee beans within were unnecessary, and needed unexpectedly high bite force to break through. Lastly, the Tiramisu flavor from this visit didn't leave a strong impression. Something I like about this location outside of the food is that the location is cozy for enjoying your dessert and maybe coffee in relative peace. There is a comfortable, amply large and spacious seating area behind the service counter (away from potential lines). Where it comes to service, while it was not tremendously busy despite the lunch hour, the service was fast and polite. Finally, there is the question of price. I appreciate that in a downtown location, with a brand like this one, the product is not going to be cheap. At the same time, $8-something for the smallest cup they have seems steep. Final verdict: To make a comparison to Jeni's, while I think the prices are more or less similar, I prefer the product at Jeni's, finding it smoother, and having more creative flavors. Just so. Amorino still provides a quality product at understandable prices. However, as flower-cones don't work on me, this is not the kind of place where I can see myself going often. read more
