Garretts popcorn speck and $1.75 from 1 PM to 3 PM Monday through Friday this week. This is the line for the popcorn with people waiting at the door. The line is just as long in our vehicles.

Location is not that great; security is by the entrance. The Garrett mix and almond crisp are my favorites.

Classic Chicago Mix and some cashew and caramel love

Busy location and they even have a drive- thru. Ordered lots of popcorn plus I got a lil something for my neighbors. First time trying the caramel with cashews mixed with cheese. It was so good. They have a lot of beautiful classic and holiday tins to choose from. The ladies were so nice and helpful which added to an overall nice experience.

I'm doing everything Chicago! This popcorn melts in your mouth.

The popcorn is delicious per usual but the staff's attitudes are horrible at this location both times I've been to this location. I briefly took my mask off on one side to adjust it and the lady rudely told me to put my mask back on. Now this wouldn't have bothered me had she not yelled it AND if her co-workers were following the same rule. One worker's mask was under his nose the entire time and another worker walked in maskless. I really wanted to say something but this is Chicago and I need to make it back to Dallas alive, lol.

This popcorn is so good and addictive. I only stopped here because I was traveling to another state and my family wanted me to bring them some Garrett's popcorn. I've had it before but after it had been days old. It is delicious, fresh. People love this pop corn because it was about 25 people in line ahead of me. The great thing is the line moved pretty fast. The staff is nice. I will definitely come back FYI- they offer a military discount which is about 15 percent off.

A chicago staple! Delicous unmatched popcorn! We have seen imitators and many other brands and companies attempt to duplicate the Chicago mix of cheese and carmel but no one else can quite hit the mark! I have brought plenty of family and friends from out of town to Garrett's and they all frequently place orders online. The lines are usually long however it is worth the wait. If you are traveling and taking popcorn home, put it in a ziplock bag to keep it fresh. Love this Chicago staple!!!

    The medium Mix.

I was driving by this south side location and decided to make a u-turn. Their drive thru is open and was not that crowded. I waited in line about 10 minutes. Placed my order with a nice, friendly lady named Dyneisha. I ordered the medium mix which is cheese & caramel popcorn. It was $6.35 plus .65 cent in tax. Most people probably could wait til they get home....hmmmmm not me. I started right away after cleaning hands with hand sanitizer. Good tasting popcorn, the one I get downtown is usually warm so this may not be freshly popped so that costed them a star. Otherwise it satisfied my craving during this stay-at-home order.

I am so happy I don't have to go downtown to get the same great flavor of popcorn anymore. They have parking and a drive-thru you can't ask for anything better.

WORLD FAMOUS!! What more can I say? The Chicago Mix (cheese and carmel corn) truly lives up to its name. The combination of the salty cheese and sweet caramel popcorn is like a big hug! Oh, so COMFORTING! You can watch the process of the carmel corn after it's made. The lines are usually out the door at all the locations I've visited but they moved pretty fast, besides, it's definitely worth the wait!! I always buy a small carmel, small cheese and combine the two in a Ziploc for the PERFECT even blend. This is enough to eat on the my way home and have some two days later. Was able to purchase a miniature can with my purchase for $5 [normally $15) as a Black Friday special. Although parking is a zoo, I'm happy this location is here, saves me from the drive and headache of driving downtown Chicago or Ohara from Gary, Indiana

Family Day at the Smart Museum…read more When my daughter booked our family for Family Day as what we thought was part of U Chicago's Family Day, we were quite excited. A fun crafting adventure for the weekend. We almost didn't go as we were running late. Called and they said to come, so we did. Lucky to find a parking spot next to the Smart Museum on the University of Chicago campus. Walked in to the open atrium where we saw families of preschool aged kids with their mommies and daddies weaving on paper looms. My daughters have progressed to grad school, so we were a bit surprised. The museum curator also said when she scheduled Family Day at the Smart Museum of Art, she didn't realize that was also UChicago's Family Day. What a coincidence! So....we explored the museum first for inspiration. The museum is small, but had some beautiful installations. My favorite was the sunflower quilt print. The Sunflower Quilting Bee at Arles. Rosa Parks. Sojourner Truth. Ida Wells. Mary McLeod Bethune. Harriet Tubman. Vincent Van Gogh watching strong women advocate for equality from a distance. So powerful. Then, back to the atrium to pick up paper looms and fill brown paper bags with and assortment of strands of yarn, cord, shells and cards. Not having a plan, we went to work. Creativity inspired by our love for each other. Nice to have their featured artist come check on us. No, we were not on our phones. We were weaving small works of art. A great opportunity to spend a few quality hours with my daughters away from their responsibilities as adults studying to make an impact on the world. Family Day at the Smart Museum of Art. #2700

It was so nice to go to a reception on a Saturday afternoon instead of a week night. The setup of the place is such that the food and drinks are floor level, but no food/drinks are allowed in the gallery space. Not convenient but understandable. This was my 2nd or 3rd time in this space. There was cheese/meat/fruit in one area, sealed pieces of cake in another area, and bartenders pouring wine, beer, soda, and water. Also a special drink dedicated to Alma Thomas. I was not familiar with her work, she was big admirer of outer space. It coincided with the Artemis II lunar space trip, so that was just awesome! The other exhibit about the University of Chicago's history with Chinese art was visually arresting and thought-provoking. There was a space separate for kids to do crafts as well. the bathrooms were small but clean, and a coat rack was provided, which was quite convenient. It is not far from public transportation, and I can't speak to parking, but the campus is so nice, if you live a mile or so away, it's a nice walk.

I found BDG in the course of doing a bit of online sleuthing for what to do in Beverly, but actually hadn't planned to visit because I knew my time was limited. However, it happened to be near another shop I'd decided to visit, which was very serendipitous since Beverly Dry Goods is a great shop and I'm glad I didn't miss out! The proprietor was really friendly. Most of the time I was in the store (December 22, 2021) I was the only one there, but there was a few minutes when there was one to three others in the store. I also got lucky (for my comfort level, at least) that there were so few folks in, because the woman running the shop mentioned that she might be able to grab a quick bite to eat that day because it had been so busy for the last few days. It's a pretty small store, but they are packed full of stuff. Although it's not solely dry goods, there's a lot of variety in what they sell. You'll find textiles (they had some nice hats and stuff when I was there), barware (mixers, drink accessories, etc.), candles and incense, cards, and so on. I bought some fun glitter for drinks, which I used on New Year's Eve for wine to ring in the new year, but you could easily use it in water/juice/pop or whatever for kids or folks who don't drink alcohol. I also bought an item that I can only describe as incense matches; they're discreet, don't burn long, and don't have a smell that's overpowering or lingers overly much. I find that they're perfect for just about any room in the house; I don't tend to like incense because it's far too strong and the scent hangs around forever, but not with this product. They also recently shared that they have some nonalcoholic mixers coming in, and they occasionally do events--if the timing of it worked for me, I may have gotten a ticket to the Galentine's Day Cocktail Class they're offering this coming week! When I was in, they had a their windows decorated as part of a contest that some of the businesses in Beverly were taking part in. Their decoration was in the style of a Chicago flag, which I loved (and took a couple photos with, which apparently was their objective because after I did I saw that they had a note encouraging people to do so!). Beverly Dry Goods seems like one of those shops that, although they may carry some items pretty regularly due to their popularity, is always on the lookout for new things, seasonal merchandise, and so on so I'm going to keep them in my sights (and follow them on instagram @beverlydrygoods). I'm sure I could find a fun gift for someone here if I needed one, and it's always great to have a place where you can get unique gifts in your back pocket. They're located on South Walden Parkway, which is a short street that I'm pretty sure isn't on the Chicago grid--so north siders, you might miss it the first time! It's also on the Metra Rock Island line, so if you are on that and get off at the 99th street stop you're right next to it--the shop's south wall borders the small parking lot for the Metra station. Street parking in front is limited, but if I recall correctly is also free, and there's additional parking available on the surrounding streets.

This store used to be a church and you can still see where the altar was and the beautiful stain glass window is still up. I love that this gives the shop a very unique layout and look to it!! Not to mention the stained glass is beautiful! They have a lot of candles, cooking supplies, dishes, skincare, and even a toy area. It truly is a little bit of everything! I love coming here for Chicago themed products as well as Irish heritage items! This place is clearly very proud of the city! This place also has a lip balm that I always get called Bitchstix.
