Kept hearing about LGP from a few reliable sources. I've never been gung ho about the chicago mix at Garretts and I have to say LGP has Garretts beat! I can't even tell you what is different but it's just better. The flavors dance in your mouth. Popcorn fresh! Delicious and I'm gung ho lol. There are so many different flavors to be tried. Unfortunately, I didn't get the gentleman's name that helped my daughter and I but he was so so helpful with details about the popcorn and their process. This is the spot for cheese popcorn on the south side, hands down. Always worth the lines you see forming around the place, believe that. Excellent choice of popcorn kernels and that cheese dust is to die for. The cheese popcorn is super fresh and soft while their caramel has a nice crisp to it. I originally thought they were more affordable than garretts but they are not if you're getting caramel mixed with cheese popcorn. For some reason if you get a cheese popcorn it's bigger vs Cheese and Caramel. I didn't realize this until my last visit, I felt cheated because I feel like I could have spent the same amount of money at garretts and I would have had more popcorn. I spent almost $8 on a bag of popcorn that didn't last me long at all. It was very disappointing when I finally realized this. I say this because the other reviewers say this isn't as sweet as garretts but to me after my last visit, it seems sweeter. The service is ok, the people that work there are nice. They have other items you can buy other than popcorn like ice cream bars and cake. They also have a lot of other popcorn flavors. They are located on 118th and western, right next to family dollar. The parking is scarce. They have like maybe 5 parking spaces but I guess you could park across in the family dollar parking lot but not everyone wants to do that. I am a great example of someone who wouldn't want to do that. Lol I definitely recommend you try this place if you've never been. I use to think garretts was the authority for popcorn in Chicago but places like this are popping up giving them a run for their money. One more thing .. there is a new bag tax in chicago so if you need a bag to put your popcorn in, expect to pay .07 per bag. read more

Out bike riding this summer with my neighbor and she suggests going here. She usually wants to stop for fast/junk food which leads to a discussion about counterproductivity but I was willing to try this place. So we made the trek to 117th and Western. It is tiny but that's fine. I wasn't expecting a bistro of popcornery. The staff was friendly and accommodating for an indecisive first timer. The owner ragged on me a bit for riding a divvy, saying I should get my own. But we had a good laugh about it. I told him it was my first time on a bike in 15+ years and he encouraged me to stick with it. They let us try a few flavors (you have to take samples outside to try) #Covid. I was completely fine with this precaution. If you read my reviews, you'd know I am an OG germaphobe. But shout out to my new Covid germaphobes. Welcome!! Anywho, I settled on my standard Chicago mix (cheese and caramel). Gotta measure them against the Chicago big brand. While the caramel is a tad sweet, I do think the mix is a good stand in and it doesn't get stale after two hours like some others. I'll definitely go back. read more

Their cheese can be considered a bit oily, but where else can you find cheezy caramel pretzels!? That's right, nowhere! The pretzels are covered in caramel that is hard, sweet + salty, and then doused in a subtle cheese. It is something that romantic fairytales and love handles are made of. I wish they would go back to the old recipe for the caramel and the cheddar cheese popcorns, they used to be the best. Now, it's just an inconvenient place to go purchase large bags of kinda' fresh popcorn. Sometimes there is still a line however I believe that is because there is no other popcorn place in the neighborhood. I may have to go back to Garrets - oh perish the thought! And the pricing feels like a scam; odd weights not 1/4 ounce, 1-2 ounce, etc., It's like squeezing a few more pennies. Also be aware there is an additional charge for using a credit card. My brother purchased a holiday tin and my hubs ordered a side (I forget the size) of some Cheddar Cheese mixed with Caramel. I was pretty stoked that they had more flavors other than regular cheese but pretty disappointed that there weren't as many as I was expecting. In Vegas we have white chocolate, macadamia nut, etc. Guess those flavors are just too exotic for Midwest? Lol It's EXPENSIVE. Tastes stale. Oily as hell. And as one of the thee Yelpers mentioned, the customer service is crap. Service: They truly do make you feel as though you're an inconvenience. No one smiles and there's a "gentleman" that stands around staring into space occasionally sweeping around the store, I assumed he was the owner by the way no one minded that he just stood there. I used to be a regular at Garret's but this place is amazing. The women that work here could at least try to be friendly. But the older guy here is very welcoming. The cheezy Carmel pretzels are mouth watering seriously and the best creation ever! I can eat them every day. I am a native of Chicago but now live in Texas. I grew up eating Garrett's but when my Sister told me about Let's get Poppin I absolutely love it. I often place large orders to be shipped to me but I stick with cheese and cheesy caramel and the shipping prices are no joke but I continue to order. I think I'll order me a batch tomorrow. I hope they are still open with the covid pandemic. It is oily so I eat it with disposable latex gloves. All of my Texas friends always asks me when I'm ordering again. I recently was introduced to the popcorn here, all 3 times I had the popcorn it was fresh and very tasty. My popcorn lasted a solid week before it was stale. This is much longer than any of my Garrets. I love Garrett's but I like this better. It's up to your taste buds. However, after all that positivity, I'm Now hesitate about going back. some of the reviews I just read are nasty, and they only received 43 out of 100 on the health department inspection. read more
