Fast Service, large Portions, Server speed was a bout a medium. We did have somewhere to be after and it was hard to flag someone down when it was time to pay. I ordered a Bacon, Sausage, cheese, and Mushroom Omelette with wheat toast. I don't usually eat breakfast food but the mood struck me and between quantity and taste it was a worthwhile order. We entered a very clean warm blue toned diner with several smiling greetings and told to sit wherever we like. We found a warm 2 seater booth well away from the door and the chilly weather outside. Many local regulars they all chat and add to the ambiance. The food was huge and delicious! First time I found local cheesy grits made with real grits and cheese not instant. Italian toast several choices of juice with large glasses. The frittata is big, very big, be warned. So packed with everything and 2" high covering a full 12" plate. They have redone the interior with fresh paint and reupholstered booths. When I first went there was only 1 server and then things started to pick up quickly. She was friendly and kept the coffee refills coming. The food didn't take that long and was tasty. First time I went to this restaurant. I am always interested in trying new places. I ordered a large Julienne Salad. I was disappointed when they said they were out of hard boiled eggs, but ordered it anyway. It looked beautiful and tasted great. However, underneath the top layer was a half bowl of old brown lettuce! I should have said something but didn't want to make a stink in front of the people I was meeting with there. However, I feel this in inexcusable. There is no way that the person who made the salad could not see how awful the lettuce was that they were using. I usually give restaurants a few chances, if something is just not quite right. I also hate to disparage a non-chain local restaurant, but something this deliberate makes me not want to return. We are really loving this classic, old school diner that's a hot spot in Liverpool. Once you step in the door it really is like stepping back in time, servers interacting with customers and many are regulars known by names and regular orders. The servings are enormous, we both had the double play and always leave with enough for a second meal. I love the scrambled eggs, with bacon, toast, and added home fries with onions for only $1.50! Our coffee was never low or cold. These also had to be the best home fries I've had yet in the area and for our giant plates of food you couldn't beat the price. It's been a few years since I've been in the area and my girlfriend said let's stop. As we remembered it is a warm and friendly place, but a few things have changed... The choices are better, the service is better, everything seemed better. I got the fabulous Stuffed Cakes-two good sized pancakes with a thick layer of fruit between...apple, cherry, strawberry or - the one I got - blueberry heaped with whipped cream and excellent coffee. My girlfriend got a half order of Stuffed French Toast Supreme - filled with cream cheese and strawberries. I told her it was too big to finish...but we did. Definitely cozy and friendly. First, they do not have enough staff. At lunch today, there were only two people waiting on tables while also working the cash register. Besides waiting a long time to be seated, this meant that service was slow and the servers' attention was fragmented. Not the calm lunch that I had hoped for. Second, I ordered a gyro, which described on the menu as being wrapped in pita bread. What I got was a wrap, not what I would consider a gyro. They were too busy for me to question them...and yes, it was good...but it was not what I expected. My husband and I decided to try a diner in our local area, gardenview diner. We arrived at 10:15, our orders were taken at 10:36. We ordered a "traditional breakfast" & a breakfast wrap. We received our food around 11am. We were both out of our drinks. When a waitress finally came over to ask if we needed more drinks, we didn't not receive them until we were done with our meals. The toast with the traditional was a 4 tiny pieces of mangled bread and the home fries were cold in the middle and didn't taste great. The wrap was sub par but we did not receive the home fries that were suppose to come with them. Around 11:15 we started waiting for our check. We received it at 11:25, not a place of recommendation. The French toast was amazing! The bread was thick and the cream cheese strawberry filling was tasty! The biscuits seemed to be homemade and the gravy was very rich. Original Liverpool location. We came here for lunch after seeing the loaded menu online. Unfortunately, much of it has been discontinued "since we stopped serving dinners." This killed the 2 dishes that I wanted, plus, we were told they were out of another one that I might have ordered. The fried shrimp, fries and slaw were pretty good as was the creamy chicken & rice soup that came with it. The hot turkey sandwich "made with our roasted turkey" sounded good, but the amount of turkey was shockingly skimpy. That and the slightly off-tasting mashed were mostly covered with the usual YELLOW gravy seen on most similar chicken dishes. This was our last visit as the rest of the menu is just the usual diner stuff. We had a great waitress, though. read more

Longtime customers 10 yrs or better and hoping to see our favorite server (Vanessa) apparently she no longer works on Thursday. Their had to be all of 11 people in the restaurant. There were 2 servers one newer one. It went down hill from there. Our server was lax to say the least and very unattentive. It took close to 25 minutes to get our order which was not hot in fact our server was talking to the other server while holding our food. We had to ask for creamers and the food was mediocre. I ordered the breakfast platter with chicken fried steak. I ate the scrambled eggs then proceeded to eat the steak. It tasted vinegary that's kinda weird. I called over the waitress (Sandy) she said it must be the gravy. Who makes gravy with vinegar? I sent it back she took it off the bill. Then I had French toast and I pulled out a 4 inch hair out of the toast. Like that grossed me out. I don't even have a hair on my body that long. All in all i still left a $5 tip just to be nice to the waitress even though I had a crap meal. She was very snotty to me afterwards probably Because got a shit tip for a shit meal. My coworkers and I went to the Garden View diner on our work schedule to grab a quick breakfast. Waitress Donna, I think that was her name was very acquainted with one of my coworkers. She talked to him for minutes and minutes exchanged phone numbers and all, she then forgot to put our order in, because when other patrons came in she took their order and 2-3 tables got breakfast before us. She started us off with coffee and Hood single pack creamers that was spoiled. Once I told her, she brought out cold Hood single creamers that was also spoiled. We spent over an hour waiting for our breakfast. I am African American and I got my plate approximately 10 minutes after my coworkers received there's. I got up and left. I will never go there again. While I waited for the waitress I recieved a work phone call, very important. As I was talking, she arrived, I wasnt able to answer her properly and she left. Next time she came by I told her it was cold and she has the audacity to berate me, saying "That's why I come over to check, why didn't you tell me when I was here?" I replied "I was on a work call and couldn't speak." She is now giving my girlfriend and I a nasty look. I tell her "I don't want another" and she takes it away. Seconds later I hear her complaining about me to co-workers. This is not how you treat people. I don't always agree that the customer is always right, but there are different ways of doing things. They wonder why all there clientele are elderly couples. You need to be blind and deaf to not see this place is an unsanitary, spiteful, disgusting diner. PS. She thought the total didn't look right, so she got her phone to calculate the correct amount, as she was doing so, the waitress walked by & said, "That's what you're leaving me? Thanks a lot. I have a love affair with these old fashioned diners. We don't have them in London. Unfortunately for me, I'm in the process of losing a few pounds at the moment so I couldn't stuff my face as I normally do. I settled for the French Toast which was as good as anywhere. I do have just a couple of minor gripes. Parking is tight and because they are fairly full in the morning, we had to sit for 10 minutes at an unbussed table which I didn't like. I think they need more staff in the morning. My other problem is the bathroom. Just one toilet with no urinal so you can be caught short. The waitress was pleasant when she finally arrived and we were fed quite quickly once we managed to order. I think it's a mite cheaper than other diners, especially the overpriced and in my opinion, overated, Stella's. Certainly worth a visit but only if you want a leisurely breakfast. read more

Gardenview Diner has an attractive exterior and a comfortable and clean interior. It is bright and cheery inside and has a counter, booths and tables. I visited on a weekend around 4:00PM and was craving a good diner breakfast late in the afternoon. After entering, I was invited to sit where I pleased so, I chose a comfortable table. The diner had a few customers spread out at the counter tables and booths but, was not packed. I was dreaming of chicken fried steak and hoped they had that on the menu. Fortunately, the did offer it as either a breakfast item or dinner selection. I chose the breakfast which is served with hash browns, two eggs, and toast. The server was pleasant, personable and efficient. She took my order using a small hand held device. Good bye paper and pen ! About five minutes after ordering, I was surprised to see my server approaching my table with my meal. That was fast ! Time to dig in ! The meal looked good and the portions were very generous. The hash browns were fresh, hot, mildly crisp, and tasty. The eggs, which I ordered as over medium, were actually only cooked to only over easy. The eggs were slightly browned on the outside which reduced their visual appeal. Someone used a grill that was too hot for eggs. I was mildly disappointed and perhaps I am being too fussy but, it is my choice. The rye toast was crisp and hot but, didn't have a flavor, texture or chewy firm crust one expects from a high quality rye. This is not a deal breaker as I still enjoyed the toast. I do know other places that have very good rye bread and if I go here again, I will order wheat or white. The center piece of the dish, the chicken fried steak, was covered in a white, peppery gravy and a rather thick deep fried crispy coating. Inside, where the steak lay, I found something salty with the consistency of soft ground beef. This was not a whole steak that was pounded flat and then lightly battered. This appeared to have been a frozen product dunked in the deep fryer. No wonder my meal arrived in 5 minutes. I must say that I enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, the customers who all seemed to know each other based on the conversations between tables, the family run atmosphere but, I got a bum steer when it came to the chicken fried steak. I will try this diner again and navigate away from this meal and try one of their other extensive selections and tempting specials. read more

Stopped in on a Tuesday evening around 7:00...not crowed at all. We each had one of the specials...chicken broccoli Alfredo and the meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh my gosh, so delicious and more than we could eat. The Alfredo dish was loaded with chicken and made with bow tie pasta. The meatloaf sandwich was made with sourdough bread...yummy. The gravy covered both the potatoes and the sandwich. Had I known that, I probably would have ordered it without gravy on the sandwich, but it was great just the same. My family and I come here every time we are in town. It is a timeless classic from my youth. The more important details are the family style, home cooking that comes from the kitchen. This time around my wife got the ham and cheese stuffed French toast with home fries. It looked delicious and well prepared. She stated that she really enjoyed the flavor of the French toast, cheese, and ham. My daughters shared a waffle, home fries, and bacon. I could tell they enjoyed it by how fast they had it eaten. I got the Fritatta as I usually do and I was not disappointed. From the eggs to the garlic bread to the potatoes, and everywhere in between were flavorful.
