Not from around the area so I stumbled into this restaurant not knowing what I was getting myself into. The nachos w melted cheese had a sad sad movie theater cheese sauce on it, nothing fresh about it. I ordered a sprite, found a 7inch black hair in it. Kindly asked for a new one and received it. Ordered the gallo chicken- was okay, nothing crazy.. until I found a second very long hair in it. You would think after a pandemic is at its peak and restaurants are allowed indoor dining that hygiene would be impeccable but that's simply not the case here. Informed the waiter of the 2 hairs that were found during the meal, he apologized. I looked at the bill, nothing was done to reflect this disgusting lack of hygiene at this establishment. read more

There's a South Beach, Miami vibe in this joint. The entire staff is really friendly and seem to really care about the place. Gallo's is my first Colombian food experience. Cute Colombian restaurant with plenty of other Latin American options (ie nachos, Cuban sandwich, etc) Large selection of tequilas from their fully stocked bar. Came in for lunch and wanted to go low carb for a change so I opted for their rotisserie chicken with a side salad. The salad was pretty basic-lettuce, tomato, cucumber etc but topped with their signature homemade green sauce made the perfect compliment to the rotisserie chicken. The sauce was great on the chicken too. Wish I had discovered this place sooner since I'm only in the Patchogue area a few times a year. Latin-ish I guess this place varies depending on the time of the day you hit it. I have only been there at night when it seems to turn into a ghetto lounge - apparently earlier in the day / evening it is not so bad with the mayhem. The place bills itself as Colombian: seems to be for the most part but I would generalize it more as Latin and leave it at that. They do have Colombian items but they are mixed in with the general Latin stuff you get everywhere: fajitas, nachos, quesadillas etc. That being said, everything is good- calamari is hot and crispy, nachos are piled high and everything tastes fresh. The downside is that it gets ridiculously crazy in there on weekend evenings and is not quite the place you want to bring your date for drinks and food. Service slows to a crawl and the lines for the bathroom are a good 10 minutes; and that's for the men's room! Overall good- just go early. Parking on the street or muni lots here and there read more

We stopped in here late with friends for a quick bite on a Friday night. I'm assuming the place was busy in anticipation of the live music rather than the food itself. We got an order of nachos with cheese ($5), which reminded me of something I could have gotten at a carnival. Seriously. It even had the fake cheese whiz looking stuff all over the top. But hey, at least the portion was generous. We also got a full order ($25) of Gallo's Finger Food (Picada), described as "A suculant array of Meats: Steak, Chicken (Breaded & Rotisserie), Breaded Pork, Pork Ind, Sausage, Green Plantains, Potato, Empanadas, Cassava, topped with Avocado slices and Arepa." Yes, there were a lot of things on the plate and yes, the portion was hearty for the price, but everything was dry and bland. No seasoning whatsoever. Thankfully we ordered a pitcher of mojito ($40) followed by a pitcher of sangria ($35) so I was able to wash down the taste - or lack thereof - with both. Completely unimpressed. We had been out all day and my friends mentioned how good the food at Gallo was. So, dinner at Gallo it was -- and what a disappointment it turned out to be. I expected the prices to be as high as they were, considering the area, but the food left much to be desired. We started with the tropical nacho platter. It was nothing special (chips, cheese, beans) and tasted like nachos I would get anywhere else. For $7, I didn't feel like the price was justified. For dinner, my friend and I shared the sampler platter. There were small slices of steak, chicken breast, plantains, and yucca fries. Everything was SO DRY. Most of what we ate lacked flavor, and did I mention how DRY it was? Thank goodness I had a $22 half pitcher of sangria to wash it down, but even that tasted like it barely had any alcohol in it. I really do not know how so many people think the food here is good. Either they haven't been to better "Latin/Colombian/fusion" restaurants, or I just went there on a really off night. I've eaten at Gallo dozens of times since 2004, but NEVER AGAIN! My wife and I got a horrific case of FOOD POISONING from this place Friday night, we told the owners about it, and they could not care less! We expected a simple apology, maybe even the offer of a refund, and certainly thought they would appreciate a "heads up" about it so that they could make sure standards are kept in the kitchen. Instead, they were extremely defensive, smug, and plain rude. We had to fight to get our measly $42 refunded, and the owner Dave (that's right the super "friendly" lttle guy) told me, "I don't need or want your business." The place has been steadily declining since it became more of a bar than a restaurant. If you're brave enough to eat there, hopefully you'll have enough alcohol in your system to kill the bacteria in their food! I went here today with my sisters for lunch. The restaurant was immaculately clean and everything looked well cared for. We were lucky because we got a table near the sidewalk so we could watch all the action on Main Street. Anywho, the people who worked there were friendly and social. They treated us very well. As for the food, quite honestly it was the best meal I've had recently. I had a carne asada thing (I'm horrible with names, sorry) that was just delicious. This is my second time here and I will be coming back again. First let's start with the lovely waiter. Super friendly, super nice and helpful. First time we were seated at the bar area and it was ok. This time it was in the dining room which I did like better. We ordered nachos and cheese to start with. Very good and generous with the portion. My daughter devoured 3/4 of it which means it was yummy! My husband and I ordered the tropical platter for $14 each which isn't bad at all and you get your money's worth with the portion they give you. It consists of steak( thin piece of delicious beef) 1/4 of their bursting with flavor, super juicy chicken, your choice of chicharones(all mine) or chorizo( husband's choice), yellow or white rice with a fried egg on top, fried or sweet plantain and a small cup of their beans. Ooh and that green sauce which I was tempted to stuff in my bag! I will shamefully admit I over ate, maybe its because I was hungry or the food presented to me was just calling to do so. Either way, I left my plate clean! Will definitely be returning to this fine establishment. The owner (I think) came around twice asking the tables if the meal was ok and even said goodbye as we walked out. It's places like these that make me want to come back again and again. Gallo Restaurant is an awesome local place that paved the way of front windows into sliding doorways in Patchogue Main Street. Now almost every restaurant in Patchogue are doing this. I personally can eat and drink everything that they offer. Great food, delicious drinks, service with a smile. Besides their Gluten Free menu issues, I have no issues with Gallo. Our GF app states that they are GF dedicated which was wrong. The only reason I give 3 Stars is because of the lack of knowledge with their Gluten Free options. They don't know anything about GF options(well that's what I got from the waitress and bartender currently working). Due to my girlfriends celiacs disease unfortunately we had to relocate. read more

I want to start this review by letting you know that my family has eaten here multiple times in the past and the food is fantastic, but the service hasn't always been the best. Last night I took my mother- & sister-in-law out for dinner and they chose Gallo because the food is so good. The entire experience was disappointing from beginning to end starting with the fact that it was a brisk evening & they had all the windows open & ALL the fans on in the bar room. The service was so so horrible. The female bartender was not friendly at all, she looked bothered by us and took entirely too long to get our drinks. The male bartender, who wasn't even serving us, was friendlier & inviting. After waiting for over an hour to be sat, we then waited another 20 minutes before our server Emily even greeted us. By then we were ready to order both food and drinks. It took another 15 minutes to get a glass of wine & 3 waters. We were left wondering when our food was going to come & when I stopped Emily she told me that the receipts were printed out of order and that our order was coming up next. A simple stop at our table to let us know they were a little backed up, or to get us some more water or any kind of communication would've been nice. And STILL a table that was sat after us got their food before we did. After about an hour had passed our food finally came & one of our orders were wrong. She brought out shredded chicken rice instead of breaded chicken with a side of rice with an egg over it. When we told her the order was incorrect led she asked if we were sure and then offered to leave the egg with us (to get cold) as she told the kitchen to made the proper plate immediately. When the correct plate came out, the rice was cold & the egg got cold and wasn't runny. The fajitas that had been brought out a few minutes prior were freezing due to the the fans above us blowing (even after we requested they shut at least one off to keep the food fresh). I'm sure the owner saw the disappointment on our faces because he came to our table a few minutes later. At first I was thinking "okay, that's nice he's going to come and ask how our experience was" but even that intersection was incredibly disappoint. It went like this: "Good evening? How is everything? You know it's been a crazy night and things are taking a little long, but when it comes out, it comes out fresh. Have a great night." He spoke the entire time, didn't even give us an opportunity to tell him how we were feeling about his service. We initially wanted to go to The Cuban & I wish we had. I went there a few weeks after it opened & though the wait was 2 hours, they communicated that to us, the drinks were phenomenal, the bartenders were friendly AND quick with orders & once we sat the service was spectacular. The waiter was attentive & took drink orders as soon as we sat. When he brought the drinks (in less than 5 minutes) he took our food orders & the food came out in about 20 minutes. THAT'S great service & it is a new restaurant being bombarded with new clients. read more

First time coming here last night and most definitely the last. Decided to try it for my fiances birthday dinner with a couple friends as so many people have raved about this place. Please note I am a server myself. This was by the far the worst service I have ever received in my life. They first off had 3 tables when we walked in, sat us in the tiny front corner right where you walk in to the left on top of another table that was occupied, even they were annoyed. Server took our drink order, then did not show up to the table for 20 mins. Finally brought drinks and took our order. Server could not be bothered after that, didn't come to check on us, I was waving him down for 25 mins while he was watching the game at the bar. I asked multiple food runners to please get my server and not once did they listen. The host who was 10 ft away, leaning on the stand with her head in her hands kept ignoring us. I was infuriated, we had no drinks, napkins, nothing our entire meal until I was fed up and had to actually YELL across the dining room at this terrible server. Other tables who came in far after us, we're done. AGAIN place was like empty, it's a Monday night. Food was literally mediocre I'm sorry, but everything else reflects on that as well. I didn't receive my salad with my meal either. Didn't bother to let them know it was his birthday as all us 4 wanted to do was leave this place immediately. Took another 30 mins to get the check. Never in my life have I left such a small tip, especially as a server. This place needs to hire adequate staff, reevaluate because you lost 2 regulars and lost 2 potentially new customers. read more

5/5/2019 Where do I start, If I could give no stars I would, I called the restaurant @ 1pm to see if I could make a reservation. I was told they don't take reservations, no problem, I then asked how busy the restaurant is right now, their response was it pretty quiet. So my party of 8 decided to head down to the restaurant in an hour. We arrived @ the restaurant around 2:15pm, asked for a table for 8 & I was told that the table of 8 was reserved already(umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just tell me that they don't take reservations) oh, I forgot to mention, they said the table that accommodate a table of 8 is reserved for the owner(enough said) I asked if they can accommodate with another table arrangement, I was told that's the only table they have that accommodate a table of 8. I've never owned a restaurant, worked in restaurant, or have been affiliated with a restaurant. But in my honest opinion, that's not how you run a business, I'm in medical sales, but I would never ever turn a customer away, I would always work something out to make the customer happy. So in closing, The Gallo Restaurant has a very unhappy customer! Btw, I've dined @ your restaurant many times before, but unfortunately, you lost me as a customer in the future. read more

Absolutely love this place! We had a birthday party in the upstairs of the restaurant and it was perfect. They decorated the room beautifully and everyone was so nice and very helpful. The food was delicious and there was so much that we had plenty to take home after the party. The staff could not have been more friendly. They even packed up and labeled all the food so the guests could take some home. David and Carolyn were both so easy-going and patient. They made the planning so stress free. I've been to Gallo numerous times. The food used to be amazingggg, then went a little downhill. Then got better again. The last thing I ordered was a fajita with everything in it and it was amazing. This place appearance is great but the cleanliness and quality of food was horrible. Waitress sat us down and my wife saw the table was dirty. My wife asked for a paper towel and Sanitizer to clean table. My wife started to clean the table. We ordered drinks and it wasn't even good. Once the food came my wife order grill chicken nachos and the chicken wasn't grill. We was sitting inside by the tables outside. The other waitress sat out patrons outside where we was sitting and it wasn't even 6 feet away from us. So we decided to move on chair away which made 6 feet.
