Came here recently for a baby shower. It was located in the upstairs portion of the restaurant. The staff that was assisting us was very nice. They came out with an appetizer platter with different meats and mini empanadas and the meat was flavorful for sure. The dinner was catered by the restaurant and they did not disappoint. I usually don't enjoy yellow rice but it was really good and so were the beans. The chicken was a bit dry but everything else on my plate was good. They also have a bar upstairs and the margaritas were good. I would definitely come back for a date night. read more

We haven't come here a lot, but the two times we've eaten dinner here we thought the food was really good. I'm a big fan of the ambience as well. It has an upscale but still casual feel about it, and the fact the front of the restaurant can completely open up in warmer weather makes for an amazing, street cafe feel on those perfect spring and summer evenings. Our waitress this time around was so friendly and helpful. When we ordered our food, an appetizer to share and then a dinner to share, she warned us how much food it was. We joked that we've been dieting all week and were hungry, which made her laugh... but she was right! We have enough leftovers for dinner for the next three days (not a bad thing!) We started with the Picada (full size) which was a mixture of different types of meats. It was delicious! Every different item on the plate that we tried was just full of flavor. All the meat was cooked perfectly and provided a cornucopia of palatable delights. For the main course we had Paella with a mix of chicken, chorizo (sausage) and seafood (shrimp, calamari, mussels and clams). I though it was terrific, my husband thought it was good but a little on the bland side. We were already so full from our appetizer it was amazing we could eat much at all honestly. Needless to say, we wrapped up quite a bit of food to take home. We sat right in the front near the open side of the restaurant and truly had the perfect weather to enjoy the breeze and a good meal. I hear a lot of mixed reviews but personally I have some pretty tasty food everytime I go. The bandejas are good platters (chorizo, steak, beans, rice, egg and avocado!?) For a little less than 20 bucks. You could probably get more for the same price a little off the strip but it's still good none the less. They also have a pretty neat glowing bar. read more

I always see this place when I'm coming from a restaurant I regularly eat at so I decided to give it a try and ordered the chicken nachos..... OMG definitely not what I expected.. not only did it take 30 mins to make it didn't have any refried beans that I can see cause there was a ocean of nacho cheese sauce everywhere. Their house green aji is everything! I wish the menu was more traditionally Colombian (they have a Mexican section and are missing some staple Colombian favs and beverage options) but overall, I enjoyed my meal. So this is going to be a very difficult review for me to write... so many conflicting feelings... I have been to Gallo twice, once for lunch and once for dinner....and both times have enjoyed my meal. Pretty good seasoning on the meat dishes! I would only say that the beans could be a bit more flavorful. Based on food alone I would probably give them 3 or 4 stars. I'm a sucker for pretty much any Hispanic food...and they have drink specials. The dinner menu is a little on the expensive side. But it seems you get a lot of food. Service during lunch was not great. Our waitress could have definitely been more attentive given the fact there weren't that many people there. Service during dinner was very good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive despite it being pretty crowded. The manager or owner, Dave?, also came around to check on all the tables to make sure things were going well. So for service..not sure if it's consistent so I would give them 3 stars. But then came the 1 star moment of my dinner visit...I was happily enjoying my chicken fajitas when I bit into something that felt like granite and it created a small fracture in my tooth. I will now be paranoid for the rest of my life that my tooth is going to completely fracture. I realize that things like this happen and it was probably an honest mistake but it's really not okay. The way they handled the situation when I brought it to their attention upgraded it a 2 star situation. Waitress was apologetic. Dave was apologetic. They brought me a new meal and gave me 50% off my meal. If I were them I probably would have given The entire bill 50% off or FREE.. given how expensive dental care is....but I guess they have to make a living? Good thing I'm a dentist, only reason I didn't create more of a scene....and I hope I can prevent this from getting any worse for nobut blah.....really sucks. I wouldn't necessarily discourage people from going...the food and service is decent BUT you may want to look very closely at what's on your plate. read more

Stopped here for dinner with my parents when in the neighborhood. Seemed like kind of a hot spot-lots of people having drinks and enjoying a Saturday night out. While everything was fine (and some things were better than others) I wasn't really impressed by anything. Could be because I have a sweet spot for Latin American food in terms of grease and flavor and often I find places either under do it or over do it...could be because it really wasn't that great. I guess I would recommend for drinks and apps but with so many other options around (this place is in a veritable strip of night life) I'd probably just go elsewhere. read more

Also had a big brown dried up piece of meat in it. Asked the manager what it was and he said Port Rind. Umm no it wasn't and didn't order it with my Calamari. Amazing Columbian restaurant with amazing food and staff. You'll ALWAYS see the owner in there. Open air seating as well right on Main St. Good music is always on which gives it the "vibe". It loses a star bc its alwayssss packed out. Very hard to even sit at the bar sometimes. There is an upstairs that can be rented out for events. Came here with my boyfriend on a packed Saturday night but we only waited about 5 minutes for our table which was good. The place is nothing fancy. They did have it decorated pretty cute however for halloween with skulls and cobwebs everywhere. To start with we ordered nachos as an appetizer. The nachos were topped with meat and cheese. These babies were soooo delicious! What made it was the green sauce on the table!! If you come here you must try the green sauce, as it was so addicting! Seriously made the nachos even better. For our meals, I ordered a Cuban sandwich and my boyfriend ordered a steak gyro. Both our meals came with fries. The fries were hot, crispy, and yummy. My Cuban sandwich however was just okay. Didn't really have the impatcful flavor I was looking for. I will say the service staff here is great as well. Went here for the first time with a group of 10 for Brunch and the whole experience was immaculate. The food was 10/10 and the drinks were delicious. Gerson the server was great he was very attentive and made sure our bottomless mimosas cup were refilled. The prices were affordable and they gave a lot of food. 16 years is an eternity in the restaurant business, yet David and his family have been one of the key anchors of the Patchogue Renaissance. Great food, vibe, and location. The Mountain Platter Is one of the best deals you're going to find anywhere. Nothing like having Chicharron and steak for lunch :-) Great beer selection on tap, too. David stepped over to our table to say hi and we talked about the recent floor just put down, which is beautiful. He shared briefly some experiences he's had being in business for so long: the expansion, their family connections, their talent(s) in the kitchen, and just how incredible a Destiination Patchogue has become. Wow after all the times I've been in Patchogue I regret never even giving Gallo a chance. Now next time I'm in Patchogue and jonesin' for something other than a burger from Perabell I will be here. Enter Gallo. My best friend and I were out dress shopping for her wedding. I am her MOH (Maid of Honor) and it's come to that time where we need to start looking for the bridal party outfits. Yes if you really must know she has said yes to her dress! So back to the review... we were out and about and wanted to go to Paradise Bridal to see if they had the dress we have in mind. Paradise Bridal is in Patchogue. We initially agree we'll hit up Public House as we walk past Gallo it smelt delicious but we went on our way to the bridal store. Having to walk back we were passing Gallo again and still smelt delicious. Upon looking at the menu we both said let's eat here! Man oh man am I glad we did! For what we had... it was awesome! What we ordered: Strawberry Mojito: delicious and so refreshing. That was my bevy. Passion fruit Margarita sans Salt: again another delicious drink. Her bevy. Nachos with Cheese, Jalapeño, and Pico de Gallo (we also asked for no sour cream but got it anyway): So this was pretty good. We were just disappointed we didn't get real shredded cheese on top of our nachos. The Jalapeños kicked the both of us hard a few times since they just diced it up and didn't take the ribs and seeds out. Vegetable Quesadilla with Sliced Avocado (again asked for no sour cream but got it anyway): this Quesadilla... I hate to sound so original so boring and by no means the foodie that I am it was just so delicious. It wasn't greasy it was just... Perfect! gallo is a nice colombian restaurant right on main street in patchogue! they had indoor or outdoor seating that was set up nicely with some plants and music for ambiance! we started with the mini empanadas which were 4 for $2! it was a perfect little started to the HUGELY PORTIONED meals we got! we tried the 1/2 bandeja de pollo and the arroz con pollo and it was veryyyy nicely sized! we have plenty left over for lunch tomorrow! the arroz con pollo was on the sweeter side which is definitely how i like it, and the rotisserie chicken - the skin - SO crispy! the rice and beans were a little bland but nothing a little salt couldn't fix. very good for a shareable dinner! read more

Patchogue is such a cute town, it's loaded with restaurants, the one my group chose was Gallo. The restaurant's cuisine is more on the Colombian side of the Latin American spectrum, which is fine, I'm a lover of all Latin food! The outside of Gallo is very inviting the colors are vibrant, it looks like someone's house; the menu is posted so you can check it out beforehand, and there is outdoor seating. As you walk in there are two sides, to the left is the bar with some table seating and to the right is the main dining area. There are Colombian flags hanging along with soccer gear all over the place and not in a tacky sense, oh and they had soccer on the TVs. We went in for dinner at 6:15 PM there was a 15-minute wait, the restaurant was packed; we were given a buzzer and waited at the bar. Once the buzzer went off we were seated right by the window, the table is equipped with their signature green sauce, which is not as spicy as the green sauce usually is. As soon as we looked at the menu we ordered the nachos with chicken and a pitcher of red sangria. I ordered the carne asada for my main and so did two other people at the table and one person ordered the arroz con pollo. The nachos took about 15-20 mins to come out and they were good they came with all the usual trimming, but the cheese was processed, it was not fresh cheddar or mozzarella which was a bummer, the chips were crispy though. We got a large and it was more than enough for 4 people, it was a huge, we were starving so it was just enough. The sangria was good, it wasn't too strong, but it was on the sweeter side, if you get a stomach ache from sweet drinks I would stay away from the sangria. The entrees took forever to come out and our server didn't check on us at all or refill our waters, or tell us our food was on the way. After what felt like an eternity our food finally came out and they were massive dishes. My steak was huge, I got it medium well and it was a little tough, seasoned well not too salty; paired with my steak were yellow rice, beans, and caramelized onions on top. Everything was hot (check), the rice was ok a little dry, the beans were too watery and lacked seasoning, and the onions on top of the steak was the standout, they were excellent. Each bite I took I made sure I scooped up the onions with it, it helped out my dry rice and gave every bite of steak I ate added saltiness. I used their green sauce on everything, my steak, rice, nachos, I really enjoyed it. The food was good and the service was below average, but the atmosphere was great. The price is good, for four people with tip it was, if I remember correctly, $35 each. read more

This is one of my family's favorite spots for lunch, they come here almost every week and I join when I'm able to. Gallo offers up authentic Colombian cuisine at a reasonable price with great service to boot. Their lunch menu is great and has a variety of dishes to choose from. Most known for their chicken, you can get 1/4 a chicken with rice&beans and plantains for only $5.99 and 1/2 a chicken for $8.99! The quesadillas are huge and you can choose from veggie, chicken, or steak for $7. Another favorite is the vegetarian salad which is just a salad but topped with rice&beans and veggies. Delishhh! It doesn't matter what you get, but take my advice and put that green avocado sauce on errryythanggg! It is SO good! (They also sell bottles of it to go). It gets a little crowded around dinner time but they have a good amount of tables that I don't think you'd have much of a wait. After hours this place definitely gets bumpin' with Spanish music blasting, Coronas and tequila flowing, and everyone is dancing! Highly recommend this place. It was hands down the worst one ever! Small yellow covered shrimp (no grilling) covered in what looked like cheezewiz. Very few raw chopped onions. Absolutely the worst! I call this restaurant the chicken place. That is it's name after all. Well, I guess the rooster place. But their chicken is damn good, plus everything else. If you are looking for good Colombian food that has that home cooked appeal, look no further. Every dish I have gotten here has been good. Are there better places to eat? Sure. But what makes this place 5 stars is that's it's very tasty and very affordable. The staff has always been beyond nice. The service is quick. It's a clean establishment with a great spot in downtown Patchogue. And their homemade spicy green sauce is ridiculously good. read more

I came to the lovely Gallo Restaurant for a "Yaymaker night," or as other people may call it paint night. I love the fact they had a open outside dining section for the great weather days. My lovely foodie and crime went there, and we was seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and super friendly, I automatically wanted to order there mini empanadas as a starter. I must say there empanadas are super delicious! Especially with there Aji green sauce, which is considered there house sauce. For my main course I had ordered the mountain platter which consisted of steak, pork rind, rice which I substituted it for a salad, beans, green plantain a fried egg and las but not least my favorite AVOCADO slices. My first impression I was in awe with the plating of the food, once I started eating it I was a bit bummed out cause my food was Loot warm. Didn't feel like sending it back so I just dealt with it. The steak was beautifully seasoned, and the green plantain was super delicious with a great crunch to it. Unfortunately there pork rind which I'm a big fan of pork rind was my least favorite! The chef over cooked it, and had a weird after taste to it. I ended up leaving it there. There margaritas that we ordered for our paint night, had a great punch to it.
