What made the visit extra special was Benny, who was absolutely lovely. She was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely caring. She took the time to chat with us and even offered my friend and me a sample of their Hot Toddy tea, which was delicious, comforting, and perfect for a chilly day. It felt like a warm hug in a cup They also have an amazing variety of teas geared toward wellness, including blends that help with colds, flu symptoms, and overall immunity. It's clear that a lot of thought and love goes into both the products and the customer experience. If you're a tea lover--or even just curious--this place is a must-visit. Fantastic selection, a cozy atmosphere, and exceptional service. I can't wait to go back!

Well that's all fine and dandy in the land of basic cheese, but if you're looking to step things up a bit, then come on over to the Cheese And Spice Market! This tiny shop has been a spot I've visited several times now, the last trip coming about a month ago when my girlfriend, her family, and yours truly were interested in checking out the Shoppes at East Wind. Alas, due to these current times, many storefronts have shuttered their doors leaving only a few specialty locations still open. One of them? This cheese market (so get going!). Well, it's not all about cheese here as they also sell an assortment of local goods (pickles, spreads, sauces, oils) as well as some teas and a few other eclectically edible/drinkable options. But the biggest reason to enter is for the cheese. Now it might not be the grandest selection, but even so, CASM collects a pretty wondrous assortment of cheese styles, milk bases, and variations from all over the world. Costs are on par with just about any other place selling speciality cheeses (I matched up a few prices at Uncle Giuseppes for legitimacy), but keep that in mind because this...ain't no basic Swiss (sorry for the rhyme). But honestly, beyond the quaint interior, awesome food items, and stellar cheese selection, the real reason I'm gonna slap some five star love on this spot is due to the staff. Each time we've set foot in the Market they've been extremely welcoming, accommodating, knowledgeable and always quick to offer us a taste of any cheese we had interest in. No cheese snobs around these parts, and better yet, they're brutally honest. Case(s) in point: We were told that a local cheese, which had cost more than a similar style, wasn't worth the difference in price because we'd just be paying for the fact that it's from Long Island; it's not any better than the other, cheaper cheese. Also, I sampled a super stinky/funky cheese called Red Witch that one employee stated how much she loved it while the other said he couldn't stand the stuff, so it's nice to know you're not being taken for a ride when you come in here. Overall, the Cheese And Spice Market is a legit shop that checks off all the cheesy boxes. You'll find a great variety at similar prices to other places along with spectacular customer service which makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable (and tasty). So if you're interested in taking a walk on the wilder side of cheese, check out this spot and give em some business to keep them running. Cheese please!

Cool spot with a Manhattan vibe "behind" Main Street in Patchogue…read more The reason this is key is because, since they face out to the firehouse and residential areas, parking USUALLY isn't a problem. There's a small lot that's free and you can park on Jennings. (sorry residents). We went on NYE so had to park several blocks away. No biggie. The inside is dark and cool with a city-vibe. Ample bar space and 1-4 tops an some banquet seating that lets you look out over the street. We were greeted right away by what turned out to be our server and seated promptly by the windows (we had a reservation). Also greeted by a gentleman that we think might have been her dad. The young lady hustled all night and managed the crowd well. We never waited too long for her to check in on us and she was very helpful with selecting wine and clarifying menu items. That being said, THIS IS A SMALL PLATES JOINT. People expecting full-sized portions should adjust their expectations accordingly. We did, however, order the Trastavere seafood platter (medium) which came as a tower and seemed impressive. Two types of oysters (large and medium) were presented; briny and fresh and pretty damned tasty. There was also a ceviche and tuna tartare that was, unfortunately, a bit unremarkable, as was the shrimp cocktail (though the shrimps were pretty hefty). The American "black caviar" was a nice way to commemorate the meal. Nutty with a pop of salinity but maybe something you can skip. We meant to order the Carne e Formaggi but got the Gamberetto instead which was fine as it was pretty tasty nonetheless (made with shrimp but it almost tasted like smoked salmon). Virgola Manhattan was good but pretty standard. Follow-up drink of dirty Manhattan was blissfully salty and cold. But back to the menu: we are unsure if they have an actual kitchen back there which would also explain the small plates concept and oyster and chilled fish options. The bruschetta was tasty, as mentioned, but it seems like they cut and toasted the bread and topped it with the crudo. The other bruschetta options featured ingredients from other menu items that could be re-purposed for multiple dishes. Smart but expect this. We plan on returning and trying the charcuterie board (mix and match cheeses and meats) and some cocktails. Overall, a nice night out and a nice option for dining and drinking around Patchogue. Cheers!
