Had dinner tonight with family and friends. The server we had was great and attentive to our needs. That said, after eating a few years ago at the original Gallo, I can say that not much has changed. The food was ok at best, and the meal I ordered was the vinegar garlic chicken for $24. When it arrived, I expected a bonelesd chicken breast, but was suprised to get a bone in fatty one. The other parties in our group had margarita pizza and wings. The wings were tiny, and the general consensus was the pizza needed more sauce. All in all, it was a disappointing meal. For the cost and limited menu, the food should be so much better. We will not be back! read more

Terrible services. We rented a lake house for a bachelorette and came in for a few drinks and food. Immediately when we walked in the bartender eyes us (a groups of girls) up and down. She assumed that we were not paying attention and tried to up charge us on our order (thinking we wouldn't notice). When we confronted the bar tender on this she immediately became defensive and attempted to argue. This service made us uncomfortable and NOT welcome at all. For a rural area who caters to people who are vacationing on Lake Ontario I would NOT recommend this tavern for anyone who is a "outsider". Let's talk about discrimination!! read more

Deafening, echoey din + fluorescent overhead lighting give this place the ambiance of the UB Student Union cafeteria. The hard, uncomfortable chairs add to this (why on Earth are these so popular nowadays?). No drink list, which is not a huge deal but also incredibly strange? Like, surely the cost of printing and paper is worth it to provide such a standard convenience to your customers? The service was incredibly slow, which I normally don't mind (I enjoy talking to my wife/ordering an extra glass of wine/feeling like I'm living life at a European pace/etc.) but combined with the noise of the room it made the experience feel like an endurance contest. I had the mussels fra diavolo which were delicious, but my wife had penne a la vodka that tasted exactly like how I used to prepare it in college (box of Wegmans pasta + jar of Wegmans sauce), plus it was lukewarm. I'm not a big Yelper but this experience was so abysmal it struck me with inspiration. read more

I have been to Gallo a few times now. I decided to write this review because I have not been disappointed! My coworker and I shared a bottle of the house wine. It's on tap and it's $18 a bottle. I loved the house Cabernet. There was a group of 4 of us so we decided to share a bunch of appetizers. I would recommend the tapenade if you love olives. It is topped with a pesto sauce that gives it garlic flavor I love. We also ordered a cheese banana pepper dip. That came out hot and it was a table favorite. One of my friends is vegetarian so she order something different. She ordered Gnocci but instead of the bolognese she asked for mushroom Marsala sauce. That was AMAZING! And they were very accommodating! I would definitely come back and try different things on the menu because it won't disappoint read more

My boyfriend just moved to the area in February. It seemed like all of the better restaurants were in Canada. With COVID shutting the border down, we were desperate to find a good restaurant. I've been coming to this place on a regular basis since they opened and I actually do like the food . But something need to be done about the service, which has been going very south for some time now. Recently, there were several waitresses eating at the bar while one of them was waiting all the tables. On my last visit the service was extremely slow despite the place being only half full. It seems like the wait staff completely turns over on a monthly basis. The owners don't seem to be around and their doesn't seem to be any type of manager. Too bad, but at this point I'm not sure how often i will be returning here. read more

Update! Tried to give Gallo a third chance because I like to support local businesses. The sangria was amazing, I have to say. The pizza is still not good, burnt to a crisp. Wood fired does not mean the pizza has to be black. We also got the pretzel sticks which were way over cooked. The service was still shitty, and the person greeting us was not friendly at all. Every waitress I have ever had here was rude, didn't refill drinks, etc. I'm not a picky person, but this was just bad service. If they at least had decent service, the place like be okay. It's the little things that make a place great, but they need to make a lot of improvements. For the prices at this place, not worth it. read more

Waited over an hour and a half for food to come out. Watched multiple tables that came in after us get there food before us. We watched the waitress give the order to the cook about 50 minutes into our wait. They did comp us but was it worth it? Food was rushed so crust sucked. They can only do 4 pizzas at a time... shouldve built a bigger oven. Beer was good but we had to beg for drinks since the waitress avoided us like the plague. Good thing we were too hungry to leave. The pizza was very short on ingredients. It took us almost two hours to get our food after it was ordered. The employees said that only one cook had came to work. They should have informed us when we ordered. They gave us a 20 percent discount but not only did we spend two hours and the pizza was poor. Stopped there tonight for pizza to go. Two small (only size) pizzas $36.00. Every topping except cheese is $1.50-$2.00. Not much free cheese and the extra toppings few, barely 3 pieces of pepperoni per piece mushrooms and cherry peppers hardly existed. What a shame , we like thin crust pizza, but his was not worth returning for. I also say no wonder the place is empty. More help in there then customers and a help wanted sign in the window. Open only for a week on our visit the food left much to be desired. The pizza was undercooked with mozzarella unmelted and zero flavor in the sauce. Creamy polenta looked and tasted like they poured cream of mushroom soup over the top. The only redeeming dish was the turkey/chicken meatballs in clear broth, although the white beans were unnecessary and tasteless. I wish I could come to this place more often! The pizza was delicious and the service was great too. We came in on Valentine's Day on a whim (writing this review a bit late...) And the pizza & wine special they had was very reasonably priced. I think they accidentally screwed up our bill but before I even noticed they made up for it quickly and gave us a discount. I really appreciated this quick recovery and it made the experience more memorable honestly. I think it's a family owned place and the owners are very friendly. Went here for dinner with my husband tonight, and it was AMAZING!!! Best pizza in Lewiston, hands down! This place is always packed, but it is totally worth the wait. We had a pizza with three toppings and the gallo salad, and they paired perfectly together. We also sat at the pizza bar, and it was so relaxing to sit and watch the coals cook food and be warmed up by it all, too! The owner was really friendly and genuinely cared about our food and experience, and I can't wait to go back here - definitely a new favorite for us. Start to finish everything was great. Tapas peppers, fried meatballs and eggplant were all wonderful. Vodka sauce pasta was probably one of the best I have ever had. This place is perfect for Lewiston and its empty-headed inhabitants: All show and no go. Tried some take-out before venturing inside and, needless to say, we won't be frequenting this dump again. Ordered a pizza and "sicilian wings" and disappointment doesn't begin to describe the experience. When we arrived to pick up our order we were informed that our pizza was accidentally burned in the oven. It would be another 30 minutes before it was ready. When we came back half an hour later we were charged full price despite the screw-up. The pizza was half the size of the box it came in and so-so quality. You'd never known it was baked it a coal fire oven; maybe it wasn't. The "sicilian wings" were one of the worst items we've ever received from any eatery ever. Inedible. The dog wouldn't even touch them. We left them outside in the backyard overnight on a first come, first served basis but found them the next morning in pristine condition. They eventually made their way to the most appropriate resting place deserved: the garbage can. They have obviously recruited their friends etc to post 5 star reviews but if the local squirrels and other furry scavengers had their say it would be the same as above. Yuck. read more

Nice job remodeling! Like the decor. No room, too loud, tables too small for food or the food should be brought out in stages? Food was pretty good, not anything special, coal or not. In Buffalo it's IPA'S everywhere, not here. But they have not been open long, so we will try it again. Pricing is ok. read more

Was given a gift card, so tried this place again. Our feeling this time was the prices are much too high for what you are given. For example, the baked ziti was $17 ala carte. No salad, which is not all that unusual but no bread! We asked for bread because we thought they forgot to bribg it. We were told they don't offer bread. Been a long time since I've been to an Italian restaurant that didn't put bread on the table. The chicken parmesan was ok. One chicken breast but at least it was decent sized. We had about a15 minute wait for our table and sat comfortably at the bar. Pleasant atmoshere, but would recommend some draperies or something else to quiet down the noise factor. Food was excellent. We enjoyed the calamari with a spicy red sauce and the eggplant Gallo as appetizers. The margaretta pizza was delicious with fresh basil and cheeses. We would also recommend that they carry either white zinfandel or sweet riesling wines, since the moscato was the only sweet wine they carried. I don't think too many order dessert, because our waitress had to be reminded. I ordered the brownie served in a skillet with Hibbard vanilla ice cream. It was tasty but parts of my brownie were hard; difficult to cut, and it would benefit all, if the brownie was served warm. Overall, we will be back! We enjoyed the food and the camaradarie! Where to start, my husband and I ordered online for pickup a traditional pizza and an order of fried meatballs. The hostess was the worst and was snarky with my husband for I don't know existing... all she had to do was hand him a pizza so what exertion and effort on her behalf was minimal yet perturbed her greatly. The food was COLD not like oh well the ride home cooled it, I'm speaking of the lack of heat at all. The meatballs well I could brown up some from Walmart and give you an equivalent situation and the pizza was the most bland situation. The pepperoni was ok... there is your one star. It sucked no wonder no one was in there when we went to get our food, waiting for the failure so something new can move into that building! read more

This was a much anticipated visit, this is the first coal fired pizza oven in our area. I ordered a pizza, and my husband ordered eggplant and meatballs. His meal was delivered 20 minutes before my pizza arrived. When we kept questioning where my order was, I was told they came out of two different kitchens. My understanding was that pizza in coal fired ovens is quickly baked. Once the pizza arrived it was delicious, however, my husband had already finished his meal, his was adequate but nothing special. The atmosphere was congenial and the wine list was great for a small place. They have been open several months and should have worked out these kinks. My family and I ate at this place last night and it was not good start to finish. The waitress was very nice I will say that, it's all downhill from there. We asked for water to start and we received it about 20 minutes later. We ordered 2 pizzas and 2 orders of wings (the wings are sold by the pound we were told, never heard of this). The food took a very long time to arrive. The pizza was decent the wings were awful. Greasy, way too big and somewhat undercooked. One of the worst parts of the experience was the guests at the bar. There were approximately 4-5 guys drinking and swearing very very loudly within complete earshot of all the diners and families. When I mentioned this to the waitress she said she was aware but that really there was nothing they could do about it. I believe that the patrons are from Lewiston so maybe they are "known" at the establishment. Either way it was very rude and inconsiderate to listen to and witness. So let's recap, bad food, way too long of a wait for the bad food and rude inconsiderate customers at the bar that apparently can not be told to leave or at least stop swearing so the entire restaurant can hear it. We definitely will not be back especially when there are so many good restaurants in Lewiston. read more

I called to order the margherita pizza, when I got there I had some time left to wait so I asked if they could do an order of the Bavarian pretzels, which they added. The pizza was bland and weak, hardly any mozzarella on it, the crust was very light and crispy, but overall not filling. The "homemade" beer cheese dipping sauce was more like the cheap "yellow" cheese you would expect to put on nachos out of an aluminum bag that was thinned down with beer. I was in town visiting family, and my brother suggested Gallo Coal Fired Kitchen . It was outstanding -- the food was delicious, the service attentive and friendly and the ambiance (a converted former gas station) was terrific. We shared the arugula salad -- which everyone loved -- and I tried the calamari which was light and delicious. A couple of us got pizza, my husband had the sausage and pepper sandwich and I tried the sausage and broccoli rabe pasta ( which our helpful server recommended).
