Met some friends here for dinner last night - they called to get a reservation for 6:30 pm. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed; however, it was for the dance studio next door, and not Rizzo's. We started with drinks; the wine list was short, but the Montepulciano was good. They also knew how to make a black Manhattan, which was a plus (served in the proper glassware and all!) Our appetizer was Bam Bam shrimp (not my choice but good). We each had a Caesar salad; sadly no anchovies were available (Rizzo's if you read this, all Italian places should have anchovies!) Aimee had the chicken Francaise; she said it was outstanding, cooked perfectly, and the side of pasta was ricotta also perfect. I had Mike's Pasta; rigatoni with a sausage, meatball, ricottta, and braciole. I have been on a hunt for great braciole, and this was not it; not terrible, but not what I was hoping for. The rest of the dish was terrific; cooked well, and I liked their sauce (more savory than sweet). We'll be back to try other menu items (and take some photos), and they have a $12.99 spaghetti and meatball special on Tuesday we'll check out. Recommend! read more

This place needs work in a couple areas First off, we got there at 8:45 pm with reservations. We order our food, ( the waitress was very pushy and basically told us we HAd to be ready to order) and the waitress proceeds to tell us that they are out of bread, because they close at 9, even though the website says 10 pm. She made us feel uncomfortable and basically unwanted. The food came out and was not very good at all. I had ziti parm and meatballs, and the ziti was overcooked and the sauce was bland . My daughter had the vodka rigatoni and it was not good either. But the worst part of this experience was the service . Judy could have been alittle more warm and welcoming. So glad this is back to being Rizzos Italian! We came for the Wednesday 9.99 chicken parm special and everything was perfect. Haven't been here in years and the new decor/seating is such an upgrade from what I remember. It's much brighter and welcoming! We were able to get a table for five and our server was so nice and gave us extra of everything we asked for (specifically the amazing pesto that comes with the bread)! The chicken parm was perfect and might be my new favorite in the area, it was so crispy and delicious. If you haven't had rizzos definitely try it out, even if it is on one of their special nights because it's worth the trip! read more

This place sucks. Had a reservation for 4:30 on a Saturday, and when we pulled up the place was closed. No one inside. How ridiculous. Literally spoke with someone on the phone to make the reservation. Also, the last time we went for brunch, it was also terrible. We waited 3 hours for breakfast food and all got our food at different times. Someone also ordered a bloody mary, hot, and the waitress microwaved it. It came out steaming in a mug. Food was sub par. While driving down Eggert last week, I was happy to see an old favorite was back! Rizzos transformed into a second location of Schnitzel (same owners) a couple of years ago and must have somewhat recently transformed back. During my time as a student at UB, Rizzos was a fun Italian restaurant to go to on Wednesdays for their Chicken Parm Special. If my memory serves me correctly it was $7.99 for a heaping plate of Chicken Parm and Spaghetti. Needless to say, I was thrilled to see that the return of Rizzos also meant the return of Chicken Parm Wednesdays! I am writing this review just after returning home and am absolutely stuffed! It appears the effects of inflation haven't drastically altered the special Wednesday price either, it is still only $9.99 for the deal. Whether it be the amazing Chicken Parm deal, or another dish, I have never been disappointed at Rizzos. It's a homey family-style Italian eatery in a bit of an unassuming location, though with a cozy interior vibe. The service is always attentive and the food always tasty and filling. Now that I know they are back in action, I'm sure I'll be back for another Chicken Parm night soon! (Seriously it's an amazing deal!) read more

Sunday brunch with the family. Food is very good. Drinks - pitchers of mimosa and bellini- was also good and refreshing. Chicolate pancakes were very sweet and it was like eating cake. I could not eat that much of it. My only recommendation to Rizzos is to have more traditional breakfast type foods vs. Burger or carbonara. Very nice staff. However, I haven't been since they had a location in Getzville. The food tonight was ok. However for the price you can get better in other places. The bathrooms though were horrible. There should not be "dirty" (can't use the real word here) rings and crust in the toilets. Plus the dishes were all dirty as well. We are not that picky yet literally we had to go through three bread plates. The place was also empty at 6:30pm on a Friday. Yet, our main meals came out before we were done with the appetizer. So.... Food average/expensive for the quality yet due to the cleanliness and upkeep we will not be back. read more

I will caveat this review by mentioning that we visited the location in East Amherst (old Schnitzel Co.) during their first weekend in operation. It was a pretty horrible experience but we will try again and will reserve full judgement until then. Stay tuned. Having said that, if you are going to open a restaurant (apparently their second location - although I've never been to the original location), there are a few basics you really should focus on: 1. Prompt service. The hostess should be at the hostess station or just have a sign that allows people to seat themselves. We waited for at least 5 full minutes in the lobby and then I walked around the dining room looking for the hostess. She then told us it would be a few minutes while she reset our table (apparently a "large" influx of 5pm diners just finished up because the place was pretty empty). Well, after another full 5 minutes I poked my head to see what the holdup could be - had she completely forgotten about us? No, as it turns out she decided to reset multiple tables while we stood waiting. At this point we conferred as to whether we should just leave - I wish we had! Probably another 3-5 minutes passed until we were seated. 2. Write Down the Orders (there's no shame in it)!! Two out of three guests' orders were wrong - not merely little things but the entire order. Wrong beer too!! .333 maybe a good batting average but we're not playing baseball here. The food was not much better - but I feel a critique of the food may be unfairly premature at this juncture. We'll try again in a few weeks. read more

Had a great family meal tonight at Rizzo's Restaurant on Eggert Road. Very good service. We had a variety of entrees from chicken parm to some alfredo dishes.Everyine was happy with their meal. I haven't been back to this Italian restaurant since it reopened (had been German venue for a while) and am happy to report this positive review. I was surprised by the bad reviews, since I had never once had a bad meal here. Unfortunately, I now know what they were talking about. We were seated in the corner during the dinner rush, and it took about 5 minutes to be greeted and asked for our drink orders. After that we didn't see her for another 10 minutes. Thankfully, she was very friendly, which made up for the slow service. The menu has been truncated, which one would think would make it easier to do the items well. Nope. We ordered calamari, which has always been wonderful in the past. We were eventually served a small handful of overcooked bits around a bowl of stewed tomatoes and onions. When we mentioned that they were overcooked, the waitress said they were "sent a different type this time," meaning they are no longer hand breaded. No apology was offered. We were very excited to see Fig pizza on the menu. It took approximately 25 minutes to come out, and when it finally did the (maybe) pre-made crust was burned in places. The overall flavor was good, but there was some weird fishy aftertaste that may have been old spinach. There were several dirty tables that stayed dirty throughout our meal. One in particular sat with an empty bottle of wine and dirty plates from before we arrived until we were able to make our escape an hour and a half later. We were pretty disappointed overall, and probably will just trek to Michael's in Niagara Falls next time we'd like a nice Italian meal. read more

My husband and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Rizzo's last night. We shared a delicious antipasto to start. Our entrees were eggplant parmigiana and cheese ravioli served with an outstanding red sauce. For dessert, we had some of the best cannoli I've ever had! This was quite possibly the worst dining experience I've ever had in my entire life. We came in for restaurant week. Appetizers were subpar, but the entrees were horrible. My lasagna came out ICE COLD like it came from a freezer. I didn't touch a bite of it. The server did not come back to check on us, so I was unable to ask for it to be heated back up. When the server came back, she apologized and said the manager won't do anything to compensate. So I paid for a meal I didn't touch. The server was nice and tried to compensate by giving us extra dessert..... Not sure what to even say about it... it was literally crumbs. I have no idea how this place is busy. Horrible management and terrible food. It's a disgrace to call this an Italian restaurant. I WILL NEVER RETURN and I'll be sure to tell family and friends to never step foot in here. read more

So my husband Don is a cranky old man on chemotherapy with all kinds of food and restaurant rules. We went last night about 8 pm. There were a few tables filled. The dining room is quiet and decorated nicely. We each ordered the Pasta Pomodora. We started with the salad, warm bread and olive oil infused with garlic and cheese and other spices that I just wanted to drink. So far so good with Mr. Crankypants; he was enjoying the salad and bread. Then BOOM after a few bites, the pasta came out. The waitress apologized profusely and offered to put the plates under the warming lights, but who wants that. I was waiting for "they are dead to me" proclamation from Don, but he took a bite of the pasta and all was forgiven. The sauce was light and bright; chopped tomatoes and halved grape tomatoes with basil and mozzarella balls. Delicious. So good that Don forgave the timing. read more

Was in the area and stopped in for a pizza. Every time I have a pizza from Rizzo's it's perfectly made. The flavors are good and all the ingredients seem fresh. Always well put together and perfectly cooked. A nice change from most places that look like they just trow everything in some dough and cook it. Also noticed that the bar area has been updated since I last was here. Appears they are still doing some more work but it looks great. We used to dine there regularly. We visited on Friday night after being away for a while. Food and Service were wonderful. Sadly we were shocked by the "pared-down" menu. What a shame. My parents and I have been going to Rizzo's for years. The food is not top notch Italian, but it is quality and a lot of the pasta is homemade - and the portions are pretty generous. I plan on eating yesterday's fettuccine alfredo again tonight. The ravioli siciliana was very good - my father particularly enjoyed the sausage. My mother had chicken parm, which she always has because she says it is nice and crispy. The fettuccine alfredo was pretty okay - I have had better, but it certainly hit the spot! I'd order it again. Our waitress seemed to have some issues enunciating, but she was friendly and gave us a nice big smile at the end. It's pretty standard Italian fare in a pretty standard-looking space (rustic Italian murals, shutters, etc.) but we've enjoyed a few nice outings at Rizzo's. The bread and pesto dipping oil that starts the meal is one of the highlights--just a classic combination that's hard to beat. If you're up for having your heart re-started at the end of the meal, you could begin with the mozzarella slabs--yes SLABS, not STICKS. These are breaded, deep fried, cheese . . . but each one is about the size of a deck of playing cards. (They're also crisp and pretty tasty.) As you'd expect, the menu offers several options for vegetarians and a wide variety of selections for meat-eaters--including braciole, which doesn't show up on too many Italian eateries' menus. My husband loved it (although it was so heavy, he also took a 6-hour nap after eating it). I've enjoyed several of their salads, as well as the ravioli verde--three huge, hand-made spinach ravioli stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms served with two sauces. Definitely rich--and a generous portion that will serve for dinner and the next day's lunch. All in all, we don't make a lot of special trips out to Rizzo's, but we always leave happy when our errands or outings make this the convenient choice for a dinner stop. read more

I believe the owner should revisit pricing .not only will it be more approachable in cost for families but his business will increase two fold . Sure Wednesday is great for chicken parmigiana night ! We went back for the same fish fry and it was awful. The fish was over cooked, the slaw was poorly made. So disappointing. Must have been another cook - but wouldn't take the chance again. Consistency and quality control is so important for that reason. We will try their other location though. read more

We ordered chicken alfredo and lasagna last night. The alfredo was extremely bland...no taste...no garlic and extremely sticky....Was not impressed... Next the lasagna, I specifically ordered it with meat sauce because their red sauce is so so so sweet, yet I brought it home and it was their regular sauce.... the lasagna was super dry and ended up getting an eggshell in the ricotta cheese. Don't even bother ordering the soups... we had Italian wedding and pasta e fagioli... the pasta e fagioli was like a thick spread and was flavorless as well... Really the only positive was the bread and the "butter/pesto" dipping sauce... Sorry Rizzo's never again..... read more

Recently visited Rizzo's for their Friday fish fry. It was hot crispy with many choices for side dishes. Although it was very busy the Manager check on his customers and helped the serving staff when necessary. Rare in today's world when the majority of restaurant managers just try to look too busy. The music was not to loud and actually let you enjoy the conversation of the people you were with. New decor added to our enjoyable evening. We would recommend you go back if you have not been there in awhile lots of things going on. read more

yikes. if i could give this place no stars, i would. the man and i stumbled upon Rizzo's and decided it was the best of the worst during a busy saturday evening dinner rush at most every other eatery in the area. honestly, we settled upon Rizzo's only because there was almost no wait here, and we figured, 'how bad can some italian food be?' Rizzo's is a tiny suburban restaurant that has been around for years with a booming catering aspect to their biz. its located in a very dingy strip mall, though its interior decor looks as though it was recently updated. it is the typical family italian ambiance with fake flowers and wine themed accents. the service here was excellent, to be sure, and that alone deserves the necessary one star for the review. the food, on the other hand, is unbelievably bad, so much so that i was literally angry that i wasted nearly $50.oo on a meal that i took three bites of before rejecting the concept of dinner here altogether. i have had better seasoned and better prepared food in many of the hospital and nursing home cafeterias that i have dined in back when i was practicing medicine, no kidding. i don't believe that salt was even present in the kitchen. furthermore, the breaded and fried chicken cutlet that was my chicken parmesan tasted fishy, as though it had been fried in the very same fryer oil that the previous night's fish fries had been done in -- that, or it was just a bad piece of chicken. either way, i stopped eating it two bites in. even had i ignored the fishiness, this piece of chicken was so bland and poorly cooked, it was like eating nothing. the spaghetti sauce here is likewise devoid of any flavoring or seasoning, and it lacks any richness or texture. even adding a ton of grated parmesan could not help the entire dish. the man's fettuccine alfredo gets a point for consisting of fresh made fettuccine, but the alfredo sauce was gritty and oily and lacked any creaminess at all. the chicken in his dish was also suspect and funny tasting. i felt bad when the waitress took away full plates after we declined doggy bags. i actually felt awful for explaining to her what was wrong with our meals, but when we got the bill, that sentiment quickly transitioned to stunned shock when i realized that i basically overpaid not to eat here. even if the food had been of better quality, the portions here (13.99 for one small piece of chicken cutlet and a matching portion of spaghetti!) do NOT warrant the prices. even the salad was dissatisfying, having arrived with the most horrid example of balsamic vinaigrette that i have ever tasted. i suppose i should have looked around at all the other regular diners when we sat down, because they were all elderly folks...elderly folks who's taste buds had all but shriveled up, happily chomping away in blissful ignorance... read more

Lousy food with slow service. Start with a crabby old lady who did not want to let us move to a round table, as the "four person" was made for two. Worried about a six person party at 7:45 on a week night? Ask for drink lists and get a crabby reply about only wine lists. 24 bucks for a small bottle of wine that you can buy at store for maybe six? Bourbon wings on menu but server(when he finally came ) didn't know were out. Meatballs the cook did not know were cold all evening? When promised (by other server who helped as ours was nowhere to be seen) promised a dessert to share. Well two of us got it, but he didn't offer the others. Manicotti had lots of ricotta and sauce but almost nothing else. Antipasto lettuce was old. Poor service and food got a really bad tip. Also a note saying we won't return. Save your $, buy a bottle of wine, go to store and buy microwave pasta. Likely better. Wow. I thought their Banchettis banquet was awful. Yucchh. read more

my two kids and I kind of gave up on rizzos last year after horrible service dining in. but tonight we wanted some nice pasta so I called for takeout. I had eggplant parm, my one daughter had chicken parm and the other had penne with sauce. we split mozzarella sticks. the food was slightly warm, the mozzarella sticks way soggy, bread tasted stale. now, I have brought takeout from a place in Cheektowaga and it was still warm and tasty when I arrived home. Rizzo is around the corner so my food should have been a decent temp. my other gripe is that they packaged it poorly so sauce spilled all inside the bag, lids all askew. guess next time I want takeout I skip to rizzos and go to the place in Cheektowaga. read more

Always excellent food and service is far and above most places. The bread and pesto is amazing! My fiancé always opts for the steak hoagy or the pollo loco sandwich with fries...huge portion, excellent meats and veggies on sandwich bread that is toasted and delicious...I am vegan and order penne with marinara sauce and artichoke hearts...the sauce has chunky tomatoes with sautéed onions, not runny or thin. Nice quiet locally owned with great staff and food is always consistent. read more
