We had a wonderful dinner at Ditando! The house-made pasta was fresh and full of flavor, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the foie gras was a really interesting, memorable dish. The desserts were a highlight. Save room for them! I have a gluten sensitivity and didn't have any reaction at all, which I credit to their high-quality ingredients and ancient grains. That alone makes it a place I'll be coming back to. But the absolute highlight was Derik. He's a true hospitality professional: warm, attentive, and he made the whole night feel special. Had a great dinner at ditondo! Very eccentric menu with some great food! We tried a ton of apps but the puff pastry was by far the tables favorite. The smoked spaghetti had very mixed reviews. It definitely has that smoked flavor so if you enjoy that you will love it! The ravioli special was amazing and the steak entree is so tender. Their gelato was also top notch. DiTondo's offers a very pleasant dining atmosphere with a clean, stylish, and inviting ambience. The restaurant itself is well kept and comfortable, making it a nice place to spend an evening. The food was genuinely very good in terms of quality and flavor. However, the pricing did not align with the portion sizes. Portions were extremely small, especially for the cost, and the menu is clearly not designed for sharing--appetizers and desserts are portioned for one person. After spending approximately $300 for four people, we all left still hungry, which was disappointing. The wine list was another drawback. Wine prices were very high, pours were small, and each glass felt overpriced by about three dollars compared to similar restaurants. Additionally, a 20% gratuity is automatically added to every bill regardless of service, which is important for diners to know ahead of time. Overall, while the food quality and ambience were strong, the combination of high prices, small portions, expensive wine, and mandatory gratuity made the experience feel poor in value. If you choose to dine here, go in expecting fine flavors but very limited portions--and plan accordingly. read more

My boyfriend brought me here to celebrate my birthday before attending the Nikki Glaser show at Babeville. Immediately when I walked in, I loved the vibes. It was bright, chic, and gorgeous. I loved the orange wallpaper near the wine racks. It enhanced the corner. We were greeted with the host and he hung out jackets up. We were made to feel welcome right away, which was great. Ricki was our server and she was absolutely lovely. She was attentive and personable. Rita, the owner, came over and said hi and she was wonderful. We received a meat platter with olives. The meat included mortadella, capicola, and proscuitto. The meats were great, but what really stood out to me were the olives. I am not an olive girl and those olives were amazing. I could have eaten the entire place out of these olives. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was excellent and I enjoyed my steak, which was from Moriarty, and Phil enjoyed his lasagna, which looks exquisite. We also got a salad with nutritional yeast sprinkled over it. They don't ask you how you want your steak done, but that doesn't matter because it was tender and flavorful. It was served with gravy and capers. Never thought to put capers on my steak, but it works well. They had a dinner with Katie Parla the day before we went to DiTondo's, and they had some specials from that still. That meant I got to order the flour less cake and it did not disappoint. It was wonderful. It wasn't too sweet, it was the perfect sweetness. I loved that cake. This is the perfect date night spot. Check this place out. An ex once told me that his mother considered butter a spice, and it seems the chef here shares the same philosophy. We sampled at least two dishes from each section of the menu, and while nothing was offensive to the palette, most were disappointingly bland. Nothing to savor, nothing to remember. An entirely forgettable meal. That said, the service was excellent, the interior was charming, and the cocktails were fantastic. I also appreciated the number and quality of crafted mocktails. Amazing food, atmosphere and service! We tried the crudo, tagliatelle pasta, sea bass and 2 specials (heirloom tomatoes and purple cauliflower). A beautiful restaurant with a nice vibe. It was my birthday and I took my three children, 2 teenagers and a 22-year-old for dinner. I wanted to expose them to a different type of Italian restaurant than what they were used to. We had scouted the menu prior to going because I knew it was going to be a little difficult to find dishes for all three of them. I ordered 3 appetizers for the table: the Parmesan puffs, which the waitress suggested we add one because there were four of us. They were nothing special, and my daughter ate half of hers, and I took one bite out of one of them. I just didn't enjoy them. We also ordered the grilled octopus. The photo that I saw somewhere, showed an entire grilled tentacle. We ended up getting a very fishy sliced octopus plate with the octopus buried under some slightly wilted micro greens. You couldn't even see it, and we didn't eat all of it as it was just too fishy and it was warm. It wasn't hot. They have a charcuterie board that I believe is $38. It is not in-house meats. Three different kinds of meat. A prosciutto, a salami and mortadella. Good, but not good enough to warrant a $38 charge. There was a small ramekin of the housemaid Giardina, which came with it, along with a ramekin of buffalo milk mozzarella. I think it came with focaccia bread. I know I ordered a separate focaccia bread so we could all have it. Again, my kids didn't even finish it. I would say at this point everything was disappointing, and the portions were very small. The only thing my daughter could find on the menu for her entree, was the smoked spaghetti, which is an appetizer. It is a little teeny tea cup filled with smoke pasta. it was good, but ridiculously small. My one son had the braised pork shoulder, which was outstanding, but all you get is a plate of shredded pork with three grapes. My other son had the steak, which was little quarter size pieces of rare beef on a plate with nothing else. These were $28 and $30 entrées that were not justifiable. No vegetable, not even one little potato on there. I had a Bronzino for $32 and it was half a fillet and it was delicious and had some razor thin sliced yellow zucchini on top. It was cooked perfectly, but that's all you got for $32. I happened to order a side of the Fennel with Parmesan and breadcrumbs. It was an OK dish. The biggest winner were the desserts. The tiramisu which was $12, a Panna cotta which was $9, and my son had a chocolate pudding with toasted almonds, which I believe was $10. They were all outstanding. I had one cup of Americano coffee that was $7 and since they brought the coffee out first, [before the desserts] that by the time the desserts came, my coffee was cold, so I asked for more coffee and they said they charge $7 a cup. I said no thank you. I had a glass of rosé wine that was flat at best and it cost $13 I wish them much success. However, I have no reason to go back there as I felt everything was over priced. The portions small, and other than the entrées, lacking flavor. The service was good, but a 20% gratuity automatically added to your bill, is too much. I spent $343 for three entrées , 4 appetizers, three desserts; a glass of wine, a bottle of sparkling water, and a cup of coffee. And we all walked away hungry. Oh well. read more

This restaurant has new owners, new interior, and a new authentic menu. Stepping into the building was like stepping into a a cafe in Italy. The smells of food and coffee greet you at the door along with a beautiful atmosphere that is cozy, modern, and warm. The food was AMAZING. Super authentic and light. Honestly one of the best Italian dinners I've had ever. We're visiting from out of town and were recommended this place from a local. We had the beets, gnudi, and spaghetti to start. All super light and fresh tasting. The spaghetti was unlike any I've had before, and the pancetta really stuck out in the best way. Next we had the spezzantino - basically a pork stew that was also really surprisingly light and super memorable. Finished with the tiramisu - wonderful. Great experience at DiTondo - retro modern renovation, open kitchen, indoor outdoor dining and the menu has simple dishes that were elevated. In true Buffalo fashion, the spaghetti dish sold out in 20mins after opening, which means almost every person who came in when it opened ordered it - (try something new Buffalonians). Everything was made that day and with fresh high end ingredients and you could taste it. The braised pork shoulder was the winner for me, but everything was excellent. Dinner service will be coming soon as the build their team, but they nailed the food and the space so far. I went back with my husband and we had a completely different experience on a busy Friday night. The service was slow and the inside was a bit cramped. I tried ordering the same things as the last time my colleague and I were there and neither were available I got a chicken and pasta dish and it was fine but my husband was not thrilled his dinner. I truly believe this is the best restaurant in Buffalo. The chef is from Milan, and every aspect of the menu/experience is fine-dining, northern Italian style. One star because we never actually got a table. I dropped my Mom at the door because she has a hard time walking. After parking she was sitting on a stool at the entrance. She said they'd get us when a table was available. I excused myself to the restroom and when I exited saw at least one cleaned empty table. My Mom said the employee had been back while I was gone to offer us drinks while we wait. Stood with my Mom a bit more and a couple walked in and were sat right away. Maybe they called ahead? Wait some more and another customer comes in chatting with an employee. I happen to hear them ask about reservations and she says they don't take them. On my first trip here my husband suggested we have lunch here celebrating my birthday. You have an opportunity while waiting to ask questions about the menu choices and specials, place your order, get a number, sit wherever you like(in or outside under a canopy). Your meal is brought to your table. My husband and I shared appetizers of stuffed squash blossoms ( 2 in tempura batter) stuffed with a delicious ragu type stuffing). He had soup which was also very good but is served at room temp (for flavor) so if you want your soup hot ask for it that way. I had tagliatelle with trumpet mushrooms and marscapone. Went there for my wife's birthday, she was pregnant at the time and she also has a severe nut allergy. Both the nut allergy and the fact that she was pregnant were noted in the reservation. We were greeted very kindly by the hostess/manager, and she made it clear that the staff was aware of my wife's allergy. Menus were brought over by the server, we ordered items believed to be safe. Out comes an octopus dish with aioli, and romesco. TWO components on the plate that my wife could not consume (nuts and raw eggs) we informed the server, she apologized and took the plate away while we ate what was left of our white asparagus salad. the server brought menus back over and went over some items my wife should stay away from. My wife then ordered the lasagna bolognese. Server comes back to the table moments later and says "Im sorry the meat for the bolognese is seared in peanut oil" Now our guard is all the way up. We asked about other options and were led to believe that the chef wouldn't make any accommodations for her.
