We hadn't been here in many years and decided to check it out on a Saturday in the late afternoon. We walked in and waited for someone to speak with, since the restaurant appeared closed to us. We were told that we had to call for a reservation, which we went outside and did. We were told to come in and we were seated and given menus. We were told that the kitchen staff has to wait on tables, and our "server" expressed her unhappiness about this situation. We ordered a beer and a glass of wine, and the glasses were extremely small. We ordered Chicken Parmigian and Spaghetti with a Meatball. We were brought a basket with 2 rolls wrapped in plastic bags. Our meals were decent. Patrons pay at the register and they do accept credit cards. The ambiance here is like taking a step back in time. read more

Okay, the chicken parm was good. But still just 1 star? Service, or should I say lack thereof. We were with a group of 7, dinners showed up 1 by 1 for 2 people. After that total radio silence. Finally, after a couple of requests to please get the rest of the food, plates showed up. 2 people were long finished before we all got our food. The meat balls never showed up and we just cancelled them. Who knew when they would have shown up. We have been here before but never before experienced lack of service like this time. read more

This restaurant suffered from the epidemic and apparently has not yet recovered. There is one waiter and one cook. There was seemingly little communication between them as the waiter got most of the orders wrong, having never written down several of the orders at all. The cook had to come to our table several times to ask what was ordered and what had actually been delivered to the table. There were 7 adults at dinner. Several ordered meatballs which never came. One of the last to arrive at the restaurant was one of the first to get her dinner, while two who arrived first were the last to get their dinners. My dinner was stuffed shells. There is only one size, supposedly a full serving, whereas many of the other items(Spaghetti Parm, Pasta Fazool) are offered in half and whole servings. My dinner was clearly 1/2 the size of my husband's chicken Parm, and it was not hot. Since our party of 7 adults and one child were the only patrons in the restaurant, it is peculiar that not only were our orders screwed up, but not hot when delivered. It is possible that there were many take out orders being filled. We could not see this activity from the back dining room. That might be part of their excuse for screwing up our orders, but when the waiter came in and we asked where our food was, he looked at the envelope on which he'd supposedly written our orders and we had to tell him almost all of the orders that he had not written down. read more

I genuinely hate giving low review ratings to old mom&pop places as I know how much hard work and passion goes into making a restaurant succeed but I must give this an honest review and they are lucky to get two stars. Let me start off with saying they have some of the best red sauce I've ever had and I love the ridiculous amount of cheese that they put on anything parmesan! Now here comes the list of everything that went wrong: They have no menus. You can only look at the board posted on the wall, and they don't have half the items listed on there, including appetizers. They offer NO appetizers except for garlic bread. Which is ridiculous considering they give you individually wrapped costanzo rolls as your free dinner bread. Oh, and they don't have any soup. Though their wall menu advertises 4 different soups, don't bother trying to order any, they don't have any. They say they have a full bar... But do they? When we asked what they have on tap, they said they don't have drafts, only bottles. When you ask what they have that's a local (craft) beer, we were told "blue light", when we asked for a flavored vodka and water, they only have cheap flavorless vodka... Oh, and if you want wine, they give you a plastic individual bottle of wine, but they don't have wine glasses. Now let me get to the food... The chicken Parm and eggplant Parm were good. I have to give them credit there. But I don't understand why the chicken Parm comes on a bed of spaghetti but the eggplant Parm does not? Weird. The house salad is just a few leaves of iceberg lettuce, 4 grape tomatoes and a massive amount of garbanzo beans smothered in Italian dressing. Don't try to order a different dressing, they won't have it. My father ordered the claim linguini and it was the most unappetizing looking thing I've ever seen. The clam sauce was pure water. It was like they put linguini noodles in soup. The clams were clearly canned and there was a weird spice to the dish that was unexpected. None of their noodles are hand made, they are all barilla boxed pasta. The waitress refused to give us a check. She said we can go up to the front of the house by the register and she will tell us her total then before we pay... What? We had a party of 7 and was looking to figure out what everyone owed before getting to the register. You don't get an itemized receipt until after you pay. Overall, I was extremely embarrassed that we took my parents here for their birthday dinner. The prices were relatively cheap so I would consider getting take out for their eggplant Parm, but I have no idea how this place has stayed open for 100 years. This review is based on my experience yesterday evening, of something that sadly is common nowadays during this pandemic. My eggplant parmasen sauce and everything tasted great. The presentation was a little different, then takeout, but none the less flavorful. As I left to go up front, and pay for my meal, I noticed a classic, well known stable was literally ran by 4 people. My waitor was also one of the cooks, who not only cooked, waited on few tables and was doing takeout as well. It's sad that all over, especially the family ran or generational restaurants people just don't want to work. RIP, I believe her name was Phyllis, third generation owner, who passed in September. I haven't been there since Spring, and again went in honor and memory of my mom. We also would go out to eat on New Years Eve, then a movie...still keeping tradition. To all YELPERS out there, and everyone that reads others reviews: At the start of this new year 2022, Let's all show a little patience, kindness toward staff at restaurants and maybe thank them for taking the time to share their love for food, or recipes in whatever their restaurant speciality may be. Right up front I will say that this is not a fancy place. It has been around for generations (my 80 yr old Dad went as a kid), and the reason why: Good food & nice portions at value prices. Service is wonderfully friendly and the atmosphere is down to earth (see pics). This restaurant has been around for over 100 years , yet this past Saturday was my first visit, but won't be my last . I ordered small Spaghetti Parmesan (I opted for a fresh mushroom sauce ) and it arrived as a decent portion and piping hot . I opted for a birch beer as my beverage . Entrees came with a soft Costanzo roll with butter . What I liked about the pasta was that it wasn't super greasy and they used fresh mushrooms. It would be nice to see another one of my Italian favorites on the menu (fettuccine Alfredo ) . The owner came over a couple of times to check on us and we settled our bill with him. Last two times I ordered take out I was told the order would take an hour (for two spaghetti parms). Both times the order was not even close to ready when I arrived. One of the servers nicely apologized and offered me a glass of wine while I waited. I honestly go here to get a meal like chefs restaurant without paying the chefs price. Im willing to wait considering what a good value the meals are here. There is a lack of consistency between orders, sometimes the parm is overcooked and sometimes not enough - but not a deal breaker. Supporting a small family business feels great but they could definitely be better getting orders done more timely. Eat in is reservation only which I find odd - have only ordered take out since they changed to this. read more

Stopped in for lunch. It's been about a year since we've been here so we were surprised to see that there's no indoor seating without a prior reservation! So placed our order to-go! I ordered a 1/2 spaghetti with mushroom sauce and 2 meatballs (they no longer sell Italian sausage links)! My wife ordered the lentils! I really enjoyed the meatballs and the mushroom sauce was good but very watery! My wife really enjoyed the lentils! It took a while to prepare our order and 2 other patrons ordered after us and got their orders before us! Not sure we'll be back anytime soon! read more

Wow! If you want to take a step back in time and have delicious Italian food at the same time, definitely stop here! Currently they are taking reservations only which you can make by phone or email. Health wise during this crazy time we were happy to see all chefs and staff had masks and gloves on while seating was very well spaced out. Their menu is on the wall & straight to the point! Our food came out quickly for a busy Monday night and was hot and delicious. I ordered the eggplant parm and it was SO BIG! They start you with a roll and butter, individually wrapped and in not time flat you have a heaping order of sauce and noodles to feast on. Me and my girl, went there for dinner last Friday...I'll get right to it...there bar menu was horrible not a drop of gin in the place. So, I decided in a glass of white wine..which they brought out in some sort of shot glass.thinkin, completely unprofessional..then, are ice water comes in its in children's plastic cup..so, we both order are meals..she gets a roast beef sandwich...she said after a few bite I've had leather that was more tender then this...I ordered, stuff shells and 2 meatballs...the sause was delicious and so were the meatballs...as far as our waitress..Walmart calling her..I always, wanted to try this place, never again..one and done.good luck read more

This place is supposed to be LEGIT Italian food. I was excited to try it, as my mother in law had really talked it up. We got there, and as I looked around, I found it really depressing inside. Everything looked old and worn out. Like, this place probably WAS pretty awesome back in the day, but it's glory days have since faded away. We talked to the host, and she asked if we had reservations... we looked around and saw only 1 couple at a table, and said "really?". The host insisted that we need reservations. We walked back to the car and talked about what we should do (go somewhere else?), but eventually ended up calling them and making a reservation. We came back, and the host acted like she had never seen us before, and again asked "Do you have a reservation?". We said, "yes, we just left, called, and now we're back". The host seated us and brought us our menus. Of the 4 of us, we all asked for waters, but I requested plain ice water (the women I was with all wanted lemon in their waters). She brought back 4 lemon waters. :( After ordering, we were sitting there, chatting, and I noticed that one of the cooks was STARING ME DOWN the entire time we were there. Not sure why. He was just glaring. Made me feel pretty "welcome" to say the least. Food came, and though my sandwich was all right, I was let down by the meal. Everyone else said it was ok, but no one was raving. A general "meh" all around. Food was very cheaply priced though, so I'll give em a star for that, I guess. I dunno... maybe I'm spoiled because I live in Portland, Oregon, where most restaurants knock it out of the park daily, but I just didn't enjoy the food here. Very plain, and uninspired. This place was absolutely awful. I can't speak to the food as that I never got served. I went in for lunch, and there was absolutely nobody in the restaurant, including, any staff. I walked through the entire restaurant looking for somebody until I found a single woman in the kitchen. The restaurant was open and there was an open sign in the window, so I asked if I could have lunch because she didn't ask me anything. She just stared at me in a really weird way. She then asked me if I had a reservation. This was at 12:15 in the afternoon when they opened at noon. I said that I didn't have a reservation but it was interesting that she would ask that is that there wasn't anybody in the place. I told her that I didn't have a reservation and she said, " I guess I can find you a table". I told her " don't bother" and I went onto to tell her that I thought she was rude and that she should treat customers better. I would suggest that nobody ever go to this place again unless they make a concerted effort to improve customer service. read more

Went here with two friends on a Friday evening, the restaurant was moderately busy. We seated ourselves at a table in the front dining room, which also includes a classic bar ( looks like the 1930's). The ambiance of the restaurant is very much a throwback the 30"s including the tin ceilings and green plaid tablecloths. We were greeted by our waitress within two minutes and ordered promptly. Our meals came out within ten minutes, clams or chicken parmigiana. All the meals were wonderful and generous with portions. I had a glass of red wine as well. I wish I could recommend this place more - seemed like a solid choice tonight based on the other reviews! Sadly we didn't have the same experience. I understand the current conditions and struggles with the pandemic. However several things happened. We arrived 5 minutes after our estimated time to pick up - paid, only to be told they lost the order... alright. We waited for it to he made again, no issues. Got to the car and wanted my bf to check the bag. And his soup wasn't in there. Went back in for his soup only to be told they were out. Finally home and the meatball sub was honestly inedible. The 3 meatballs were extremely overcooked, black outside and dry inside. Which is disappointing because this is why we ordered from here.. but the sub wasn't eaten by either of us. Spaghetti parm was delish! Messy packaging but that's takeout. So I want to give this place a try again - but will wait until it's open normally for that to hope for a better outcome. read more

This corner restaurant, which has been a mainstay on the west side for many years has decided to do "reservations only" status. I haven't been there for years however nothing with the interior or ambiance has changed. The place looks the same, the food is the same, yet they are alienating walk-in business. On top of all of this my wife and I walked in on a Friday @ 4pm, the place was empty, only one table occupied and they were "interrogating" other prospective guests about their reservation validity. We decided to walk out and go to a different and more inviting Italian restaurant. Why would a restaurant in a sea of like restaurants decide to alienate prospective patrons? Had been wanting to check out this old school Italian spot for awhile since I know it's truly an old staple in Buffalo (it's 100 years old!). I ordered takeout for a friend and I and we both enjoyed our meals, though they didn't 'wow' us. I had the Chicken Parmigiana (full size) for $12.75. My friend had the stuffed shells ($8.75). The chicken Parm was good, but wasn't as big as I would have thought a full vs half order would be. The stuffed cheese which I also tried were good as well. The sauce was so red! Just caught me off guard a bit, haha. The meals came with bread, but we were surprised it was a sandwich roll vs like garlic bread or Italian loaf. Bottle of red ... it really should be red when you come to this classic Buffalo corner trattoria because you feel like singing Sinatra or Martin. My visit came during a rainy Spring lunch hour when the coolness of the Spring rain was calling out a need for warmth in my belly and soul. The signage and the awning whispered my name ... David, paisan ... our food is cooking and we want to feed you. There is a classic 20th century feel to this Niagara Street corner holder; walk in and look up at a tin plated ceiling balancing off the black and white tile that give Santaseiro's its unique feel with menu choices posted on the wall ... no need for a menu in this very friendly family location. My waitress made me feel like I was her son .... mama wanted to feed me and fill me up. I asked homemade? And she smiled ... of course. Meatballs ... good choice. Soup ... no wedding plans for me but mama how's the Minestrone .... she smiled as she went to fill my order. When a warm delicious cup of veggie goodness was discovered with each spoon dipped into the broth of this lovingly made Italian classic .... shame on the canned soup makers for even naming their soups with the same name as this delicious rainy day Italian lunch time solution. But ... there was more to lunch .... HOMEMADE MEATBALLS on a classic Italian roll covered in gravy/sauce with melted cheesed browned and melted. And, my meatball bomber was THE BOMB!!! Melted cheese that I could eat all day with an Italian tomato sauce that stood up and said 'MADE IN THE KITCHEN' with a freshness that was oh so right. OH MAMA those were some meatballs .... so so perfect. I savored each forkful and did my best to make the eat with a fork sandwich last. But, my word of warning if you choose to stop by at lunch time or for a classic dinner at an Italian Restaurant. Bring CASH ... no credit ... no check. I felt like I had eaten in the heart of Little Italy but then again Buffalo's Westside has a rich history of Italian families choosing to cook for friends and after all ... when you walk into a good Italian restaurant you are more than friends you are family. The spaghetti was good but prices on the eggplant parm went up yet portion size was about half. The waitress was not good nor attentive and seemed disinterested. I absolutely love this place. It is stepping back in time to another era. I even loved the fact that they would only take cash until recently. This was a mafia hangout back in the day, though I suspect most Italian restaurants on the West Side were mafia hangouts back in the day. The food here is simple and delicious. If you find a place that makes better Italian wedding soup, then tell be where, because I've never had it. There is zero pretension in a place like this, it is exactly what it looks like. I would take anyone coming in from out of town to Santasiero's just to give them a real taste of Buffalos working class past.
