The complementary bread was delicious, and weirdly so was the butter. I liked that it had salt on it. Oysters 10/10 From Maine, and they were huge! Burrata Salad 10/10 The burrata was so fresh and good! The earthy arugula paired nicely with it. And the balsamic was the perfect extra touch- unless it was the mustard dressing but i don't think it was. And I did like the hazelnuts, even though I didn't think I was going to. They were toasted a little bit. Continental 10/10 Veal was super thin and breaded. The breading was slightly soggy because of all the sauce on it but it was not bad though. The shrimps were a decent size and cooked perfectly. The pasta was great and you could tell it was homemade. The sauce was a really good scampi sauce. Slightly thicker than a traditional scampi, and I loved the amount of garlic and the garlic flavor of it. The broccolini was ok. The stems were a little bit hard, but the tops were good, and good in the sauce too. Seared Duck Breast 10/10 Duck was cooked perfectly. It had crispy skin on one side, and was a good temperature between medium and med rare. The flavor was also very good, and it was seasoned perfectly too. Celeriac purée was very earthy. The black currant red wine reduction was good, it had this very distinct flavor I can't place exactly. The spiced carrots were amazing. Banoffee Pie 10/10 This was a layered pie, and it was a huge slice! Plenty to share between two. It was chocolate shavings on top of a thick layer of whipped cream, a thick layer of banana cream pie, and a thick layer of homemade toffee, then the graham cracker crust. The banana cream pie had fresh bananas, and the toffee was thick and so flavorful. Everything paired together amazing and it was to die for. There was some extra toffee, chocolate, and I think a little honey on the plate for garnish as well as some dollops of custard, which was also really good. I had heard wonderful reviews about Lombardo for years, but somehow never dined there until recently when my husband and I enjoyed our Anniversary dinner at Lombardo. Service and food were amazing...as a starter, I selected to wood roasted figs (figs wrapped in prosciutto and served with gorgonzola, arugula, red onion, balsamic). So good that I could have had another order as my entree! The entree I did select was "The Continental" which is a great option for folks like me who are indecisive, as it features shrimp scampi, veal francese, broccolini, and hand made tagliatelle. While I'm not a huge shrimp fan, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. The veal was extremely tender and flavorful. The pasta was light and perfectly al dente. The service was exceptional-I especially appreciated the fact that when we were seated, we found a hand written card wishing us a Happy Anniversary and thanking us for choosing Lombardo for our celebration. Currently in it's 50th year of operation, the rooms are modern and elegant. The main dining room had an enormous flower arrangement like you'd find at the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art. A private room had a family birthday party going on, seating 20. Each dish we ordered was beautifully plated and prepared with care: Now that we've experienced a Caesar salad for two made table side, it will be hard to go back to getting a premade one placed in front of me! Every time we visit we are impressed!! The service and environment is impeccable and it's our favorite restaurant for occasions of any kind. The food is perfect no matter what dish you order. Our favorite bite here of all time is the carpaccio appetizer, it's sooo good. This visit I tried the continental and it was very lemony and delicious. We were celebrating our Anniversary and they brought us 2 complimentary glasses of champagne and a card signed by the staff. A very nice touch We started with the table side prepared Caesar Salad. My husband was unsure because of the anchovies but I convinced him he had had them before and just didn't know. We both loved it. I am sure you could ask for no anchovies but they add so much to the taste. For our entrees we had the special short rib and the bolgnese. Both wonderful Our drinks were an extra dirty Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and a expresso Martini. Delicious Although after eating dinnet we didn't need dessert but got it anyway. The food and service were exceptional. We got the mussels as an appetizer which was delectable, especially with the broth and grilled bread. The Caesar salad for two was great, and the scallop and halibut specials were fantastic. The evening was kind of marred when the waiter, who was extremely attentive but seems increasingly annoyed as the event went on, chased us down in the parking lot accusing us of taking his pen, which of course we didn't, we searched our pockets just in case, but it was just an odd and unsettling way to cap off the night. As much as we wanted to be out, we're still very exhausted and didn't want to be surrounded by loud noise and well-rested, childfree people to envy with their youth and un-tired faces lol Everyone we met was so professional, kind and attentive. The sommelier was approachable and helped me find a wine from their Rare and Vintage Wine list - by the glass! - and settled on a fantastic wine from 2006. We had the fried calamari - something I usually wouldn't get at somewhere so fancy but just really wanted to taste it well done, and it was amazing! The misses were the pasta dishes: bolognese was acidic and bland vs rich and buttery. The carbonara was garlicky. The carbonara should be simple with pecorino, guanciale and egg. For dinner, we shared several appetizers for the table including pizza, brussels sprouts, calamari, and Caesar salad, which they made the dressing and salad table side. I don't normally like brussels sprouts, but these were cut into strands and dressed with slivered almonds, pancetta, and cherries - truly delicious. For dinner I enjoyed the striped bass special which was also delicious, and even split a big piece of the Bannoffee pie which was absolutely out of this world. I hope to come here again. What a treat this experience was. We drove to the restaurant and had complimentary valet. When we walked in, our coats were checked. We waited a moment for a table and the rest of our group, so we went to the beautiful bar to wait. When our table was ready, we were escorted to our seats. Our server was amazing. Truly top tier service. Very elegant. The women were given menus first. The food was excellent. We ordered oysters, table side caesar salad, the lamb roast, the stuffed veal, the continental, and the half lobster risotto. The oysters were flavorful and fresh. Watching the caesar salad get made table side was fantastic. Our waiter made the dressing himself, tossed the salad, and plated us. All of our entrees were fantastic! Except the bread, pretty boring, but I guess that's what people want here. Of special note was the grilled octopus with squid ink aioli... so creamy and decadent, just don't get any on ya, it'll stain your finger! Pasta was seemingly house made and good but not al dente, then again the only place I can get al dente pasta is at home. First, I just have to say this was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had overall, and here is why... My boyfriend brought me here the day before my birthday. Because he isn't much of a planner, he didn't think to make reservations (which you absolutely should with Ristorante Lombardo). We walked in and the hostess was incredibly kind but informed us she has no space, but as we left, she came out and asked us if we could eat within 90 minutes. Now for me, that's like a lifetime, so of course I said yes. We were seated and the treatment by staff immediately was one of a kind. They entertained our silly debate over how to pronounce tiramisu and asked a true Italian who works there (I lost, for those wondering). The food was good. I really enjoyed mine and found the quail egg to add the perfect amount of cream to the pasta. And of course we had tiramisu and it was delicious! A fantastic option for fine dining in Buffalo. My wife made a reservation for Father's Day. We had to wait a week to sit on the outdoor patio. Free valet parking is a nice touch considering parking on Hertel can be difficult. They have a huge mustard yellow tent covering the front patio. Its very clean, well maintained and matches the ambiance inside. There's a bush blocking you from people watching on the street. But you could hear a guy scream, "You better not touch my fu***** car!" loud and clear. Service was great. Food was even better. Excellent drink menu. Good Cesar salad to start. The lobster ravioli was to die for. I could've eaten another order. Dessert was OK. Ordered a strawberry cake off that was a special. If there was only one word to describe everything about Lombardo, it would be EXQUISITE. Absolutely exquisite. I came here for the first time in a year and let me tell you, it keeps getting better. Complimentary coat check. The service. The romance emanating from sparks of light on the dark color pallet. The food of course. I loved the steamed mussels (appetizer $18) so much last time that I really wanted to have the dish as an entry. The chef did not disappoint and was more than willing to accommodate my request for pasta to go with the impeccable white wine sauce ($30)! The bread that comes with the dish is the cherry on top to a perfect dish--it's like they know how extraordinary their sauce is ;) . Oh, and the steak ($52)! Perfectly cooked (rare) and melted right in the mouth. The texture was amazing to say the least and the steak itself was as juicy as ever. I'm a vegetarian, so I expect an Italian restaurant to have a pasta dish without meat or fish . The only thing on the menu without was gnocchi and that had goat cheese. I hate goat cheese! They made it without. It was good. The kale salad was delicious! My husband had steak and it had roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts. He said it was excellent as was the calamari . She was bubbly, personable, knowledgeable and so very accommodating. My husband and I realized we have been enjoying this restaurant at least once a year since 1981 when we moved back to Buffalo. This is a very good spot to have a meal and enjoy the company of a family or a beloved significant other. The service is impeccable. The food is as amazing! The table side Cesar Salad is as one of the best I've ever had. The prosciutto wrapped fig was another amazing choice. We were celebrating a birthday and they had a birthday card on the table waiting for us. We chose this restaurant because of their amazing gluten free menu. I have a family member that has an allergy. The gluten free dishes are amazing! Plus, they offer a sorbet and creme Brule which are gluten free desserts. Our table got a strip steak and the filet which were cooked to absolute perfection. I had some after-dinner coffee, and even that was fantastic.
