Two months ago, my coworkers, my wife and I began playing MTG. What an addicting game it is. We play casual style, where anything goes. With that said, the eight of us have been searching the bay area from as far north as Concord/Martinez, as far West as San Francisco and as far South as Fremont for the best MTG store. Having been to all these stores, nobody comes close to Galaxy Games when it comes to MTG. The selection is nothing short of AMAZING. A true deck builders workshop. The singles are organized by color, alphabetically. "No Other Store I've been to does that." It makes all the difference in the world. And if that didn't make things convenient enough, I hear they plan to organize them even further by separating them according to series in addition to color and alphabetically. There are literally thousands of singles to thumb through, possibly tens of thousands. They also have rares and mythically rare cards organized separately in different boxes. I spent 4 hours going through their selection of rare blacks on my last visit.. Tim, the owner, is a clean, warm and friendly person and is very knowledgeable about the game. I had the chance to meet his night manager as well, wish I remembered his name, also a very cordial and knowledgeable person. With all that said, I nominate Galaxy games as the best MTG store in the Bay. Some of the other stores have great managers/owners and are a nice place to hang out. But, if your serious about deck building, Galaxy Games in Dublin is where you want to go. read more

I'm relatively new to the world of MTG, I was dragged into it by my husband and coworkers a few months back. Since then, we have been to one shop or another several times a week trying to find the best shop and build the best deck. We've stopped looking. We've been all over the bay area and Galaxy games has the best selection, comfortable atmosphere (you can roll the cushioned chairs right up to the wall of alphabetized, color coded singles and search until your hearts content). Although I'm addicted I have found myself getting impatient at other stores because of lack of space or lack or ease to search or people crowding me in; THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE! I spent over 4 hours searching cards and could have stayed longer if I didn't have other obligations (being a parent and all). I even brought the kids one time while I searched and they sat at one of the many tables and entertained themselves. This store has beverages and a few snacks for sale (so your blood sugar doesn't get low during your hunt). Their prices are comparable if not better than several other stores I've been to. The pro series sleeves I bought here were $1 lower than my local store. This store is WORTH the 1/2 hour drive for me... and that's saying something! Tim (the owner) is knowledgeable and awesome! He was willing to chat about life, the games or even give pointers on how to better play cards we had selected. The Manager is amazing as well. He was very patient with us on our first visit, we bothered him quite a bit (in addition to the birthday party he had going in the back as well as the other customers). And one last tidbit... coming from a female (sorry guys) this place was clean (restrooms included) and not creepy, considering some of the places I've been too where patrons freak out if a female walks in. Again, NOT THIS PLACE. I recommend Galaxy games to EVERYONE even though I really wanted to keep it as a secret at first. It's just too good not to share! THANKS FOR BEING SO GREAT! read more

As far as tournaments/events, this place does a better job of being more organized and efficient than a lot of other places I've been to. Tim is awesome. Very nice and always excited about classic video games. I came here to look for some PS3 games. The prices are way lower than what you will find on Craigslist, Amazon, or eBay. I attend Friday Night Magic at this store every week I can for a reason. The store is well organized, well staffed, and more than equipped for the rapidly growing Magic scene. Players and staff are welcoming to players of all skill levels and make for an amazing place to learn and make likeminded friends. Prices on Magic product and prize support from events at this store are the best I've seen in a long time and it's shown by the growing Magic community there. No matter what formats you play or skill level you are I would recommend this store. Multiple judges are frequent players so events are fair and it makes for a fun environment to play and learn in. read more

If there's one thing I adore about some stores that carry Magic: the Gathering product, it has to be places that have their singles in a huge box I can dig through. Galaxy has some pretty sweet prices on random bulk rares. On top of that, the staff are usually pretty accommodating. I came in with a list of cards I needed and they went through their collection for me. It's kind of slow on the weekdays (like any hobby store) but it's lively on the weekends. I wish they would have their monthly calendars online, because I would've never known they had $3 Sunday Standard if I didn't check their Facebook posts. Overall, I would probably come back now and then when I visit Dublin. read more

I have checked this place out once and will be returning hopefully weekly. Tim the owner is super cool and I really appreciate his patience with my layman questions. He was extremely helpful and so I have sent my students to him as gratitude. The students that I have sent recently were totally happy with the space that he has and the supplies he sells. I'll be honest, I don't actually play MTG at all, nor do I even pretend to understand it. I think it's cool that they sell the cards and host tournaments, but the reason I come here is for the NES and GBC games. Their selection here is unfortunately, is very limited, but I always manage to find something good, and have never left emptyhanded. Some games I bought here include all 3 mario bros games, Faxanadu, Micro Machines, and a 5 screw Athena cart (yes, I know it's a terrible game, but It's one of those games that is so terrible that I must own it). On one of my trips I actually managed to snag a Japanese Adventure Island on the GBC, which was pretty cool. Tim is a great guy as well, and I've always found his game recommendations to be good, and he always seems to find something positive with each game to talk about. However, I simply can't give this a 5 star due to the extremely limited selection of NES games, and while most move fast, I swear I have seen the same Who Framed Roger Rabbit for about 7 months now (Though I can understand, that game is just awful) read more

I came in looking for some old console games, like for original Xbox, GameCube, or NES. They have a small selection, but some pretty good titles. None of the games have prices, so you have to ask, and they get their prices off a website price list. I felt bad about asking them a few times for prices--even though that's their system--but they've very accommodating and polite about it. I was happy to get a 2005 sports game for $3! That's like a thrift store price! A popular Mario title for GameCube was $30, however. Overall, a good experience for retro gamers like me. I'll visit again if I'm in the area! read more

LOVE this place!!! If you play Magic the Gathering and live anywhere in the Tri-Valley area, this should be your go-to store. FNM crowd plays at a high level, but everyone is super friendly sand welcoming to newer players. The owner does a great job; the store is clean, well-organized, and has a fun atmosphere. Just recently got back in to playing mtg, since '93. My kids are getting into it and glad Galaxy Games is close by! They have a great selection of reasonably priced booster packs spanning a few years back and a great selection of single cards. The owner Kellen and other dude Tom, was very friendly and answered questions that my kids had about the game. Both are very knowledgeable about game play, rules, cards and upcoming releases. They waited patiently as my kids took long to decide on what they wanted with the different options available. Lots of tables to drop in and play magic. Calendar is full of events! read more

Was in the area visiting with my GF's family, and after introducing them to Splendor, went looking for a game store for them to purchase a copy. Found that Galaxy Games was near the hotel, and went over. Everything looked to be MtG, which is fine. What isn't fine is that we were not acknowledged by the staff in any way. This may be a great place for regulars, but when a potential customer comes in, a little courtesy goes a long way. We might have recommended that a special order be placed, but there's no chance of that when you are ignored. read more

This is a terrific game store with very reasonable prices. I attended an MTG pre release last weekend and it was a blast. 6 rounds of play for the $25 which I thought was a killer deal. Tim the owner was also drawing names at random and giving away prizes all day. Tim bought this place six months ago so it's under new management. Good store in the East Bay, lacking in the video game department, but the owner is great and I hope this store gets some more inventory. It's mainly run as a Magic Card store, but has a decent selection of games. The prices are standard, they have good policies and the guys are considerate. I did have my games brought to have them bought, that wasn't the owner and I got a pretty low offer on everything, but it wasn't awful. I imagine if it was the store owner, I would have got a little better offer, but I enjoy the store and come back here every so often. read more

GG is a Great business, kinda tucked into a corner. I had been searching for a decent used game store when I was referred here. It was very clean and tidy and the owner tim knows his shit. I am a vintage game collector you could say and I was impressed with his prices and selection. It feels more like buying from a fellow gamer than some careless store clerk. Went to 3 games shops and this was my favorite by far. Not a lot of selection for games, but everything was reasonably priced and well maintained. It's a bit of a drive for me in Santa Clara, but this will be my place to pickup classic games. I have gone to this place scene 2013 sadly the old owner gave his bissnuss away to a friend of his but his friend knows a lot about MTG and video game history he is a collector to just like me but this store is a good place for MTG they have tornaments witch I go to and a little selection for video games one day I went to trade in a Super Nintendo with super Mario world and zero and papermario he siad in store credit it would be 50$ in cash it would be 40$ that is a really good deal I hope for u people that this was some what helpful I say gamers and game collectors an MTG players should come here this place is the best. read more

Holds an event bringing in $2,300 (filling the place) then pockets half instead of scaling prize support. Unheard in all my years of playing competitive events. Maybe it's a result of new ownership/managment. Though this is not a way to keep the grinders in the competitive scene to keep coming back. Very disappointed. read more

Found this store today when trying to find a used Nintendo 64. I had been searching all over the bay area at other stores but they either did not carry them or were way to over priced. I wanted the comfort of knowing that I was purchasing a Nintendo 64 that was not going to be beat up and old from ebay or craigslist. I was about to give up for the day until I found this place. I walk in and was greeted by the owner Tim who was super friendly and asked what he could help me with. He informed me that they sell Nintendo 64's all the time and were out at this moment but was able to order one and I could pick it up in a few days. He offered me a great price and said he would give me a call as soon as it came in. He then showed me around his store, which had an awesome collection of Magic the Gathering cards and vintage video games. I was impressed at how fair his prices were and how honest and nice of a guy he was. I highly recommend checking this place out!! read more

Like a couple other reviewers here, I'm a new player. My son and I dig spendin time together over strategy games, board games, card games etc, and recently thought we'd give magic a try. We tried this shop that's near my job and relatively new.Tim the owner is a veteran magic player himself. He's a very cool guy who was happy to stop and chat a bit about some cards and help a couple newbies out with some tips and suggestions on deck building, game mechanics and general stuff. He's very helpful, friendly, professional and seems to be very well liked by all the local patrons. As I haven't spent much time in these kinda shops I don't have much to compare to but the store is very well laid out, clean, spacious and seems to be very well stocked. My boy had his nose glued to the glass cases with plenty of well organized cards on display. We stayed for quite some time browsing lots of single cards and pickin up a few things. Like another reviewer I also discovered I was paying a bit more at another place for stuff like deck boxes. With booster packs at 3 for 10 bucks we wont be heading back to Target. Galaxy definitely gets our business. Stop in and patronize your local small business owners. Great shop. read more
