TRASH! We were visiting Barcelona from New York and we made reservations at Restaurante Galú Barcelona. The food was absolutely TERRIBLE! The service was BAD! And the management was the WORST, UNPROFESSIONAL, and RUDE! We ordered a mixed salad, burrata, olives with Olive oil on bread for starters. Then my fiancé ordered their fettuccine with bolognese and I ordered the 6oz filet with rosemary, garlic and Broccoli. Why is that Barcelona is known for olives and yet we were served Martini olives? Yet the rest of the week we had amazing olives everywhere else. The bread was clearly bought from a Barcelona equivalent of a supermarket market; while all the restaurants we had been to that week served fresh bread. The burrata was good; I will say that. Then we were served our main courses without the table being cleared; literally had six plates on the table with our main dishes pushed off to the side. And were served our main dishes within 30 min of sitting down; so I doubt any of this was fresh. My filet was cool to the touch, dry, had no flavor, no salt, and was ordered medium rare and had no blood on the plate! Gross! I took one bite, gave a bite to my fiancé to taste and left the rest on the plate. The waiter said the bolognese was made with veal and pork; you would think it would be packed with flavor, again flavorless. Or at least it tasted like it came from a jar of ragu and it was extremely dry for a sauce. We both did not like or eat our main dishes. We told the waiter we didn't like the food. So he cleared the table and someone else came up to talk to us. He said that he heard that we didn't like the food and my fiancée asked if he was the manager; he replied that he was the owner, manager, and chef. He wanted to give us free dessert. My fiancée simply told him that her family is Italian and that the food was not good Italian food and that we were not happy with it. Are paying customers not entitled to give their opinions of their food? And he questioned my fiancée's heritage? Basically saying that because she was not born in Italy, she is not Italian! "So you're not Italiano" Then walked away! The AUDACITY! Questioning her family! What does that have to do with the quality of your food!? We live in New York and have eaten Italian food our entire lives. She's been eating home cooked Italian food since she was born! He came back up with the check and she told him how rude that was to question her family. I saw he still charged us for the food we complained about and didn't eat. I said you are still charging us for the main dishes we didn't eat? He said "this isn't America, we still charge". America or not it would have been the right thing to do. We told him how unprofessional he was and that we were simply voicing our opinions and that he was not able to take any criticism. And the fact that he was arguing with us for no reason. He said "I don't want to fight" and took the bill off the table. We were more than happy to pay the portion of the bill for the rest. We were leaving and he continued arguing with us as we left the restaurant! Yelling "parlo Italiano!?" Literally asking if we speak Italian! Whether we speak fluent Italian has nothing to do with the fact that the food was terrible. I threw cash on the bar to pay the bill anyway. At that point it was a matter of principle. I have been to, I can't even count, the amount of restaurants in my life all over the world and never experienced such AWFUL food, AWFUL service, and AWFUL MANAGEMENT/OWNERSHIP! Do not believe trip advisor; this place is a tourist trap of epic proportions. DO NOT GO HERE! read more
