Went here with my wife and daughter for dinner. My wife got the bacon cheeseburger, my daughter got the rueben and I got the cheeseburger. I also added onion rings to my order. My wife added a side salad that she and my daughter split. Overall the food was good. The burgers were cooked exactly as we had ordered them. The beef also tasted fresh. We only eat farm raised beef at home and this was just as fresh. My daughter thought her rueben was good, but not great. Honestly though, this has more to do with her taste than it does the sandwich. They used real (possibly homemade) corned beef and she likes it to be a little more processed. My wife said the salad was excellent. It was very fresh and looked to have just been chopped. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and gave us everything we needed. Overall, this place was excellent. Exactly what we wanted. The only problem with the restaurant is the location. You just can't see it from the road.....BUT, it's worth going to. We will definitely be back to try breakfast. read more

This was our first visit to the Gainesville Diner. My husband had scrambled eggs, sausage, and grits. It was alright. My friend had a Pecan Waffle and enjoyed it very much. The grits she ordered she could have passed on. I ordered a turkey sandwich with crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted sour dough bread. My sandwich had 2 very thin slices of turkey. It really could not be described as a turkey sandwich. It was more like a BLT with a scrap of turkey hidden inside. The service was wonderful! Our waitress was prompt and courteous! Breakfast food..can you really mess up breakfast well yes, yes you can. Place is not clean, food was very average, room temp for most of the food. Sadly disappointed and when your 9yr old tells you they will use the bathroom at home because it was dirty welp that is a huge indicator. read more

Our first visit will be our last. We had a recommendation from someone we trust to try this place for breakfast and I am sad it didn't live up to our expectations. We anticipated a greasy spoon with basic food done well that would hit the spot...what we got was sheer disappointment and hungry bellies. First, the booth upholstery is filthy and they weren't covered in a fabric that can be easily wiped down by the staff. Second, the coffee was undrinkable. My husband who drinks three cups a day of black coffee couldn't even take more than a few sips after attempting to make it palatable with cream and sugar - it's bad when the guy who drinks even airplane coffee (trust me we aren't high brow coffee drinkers) can't drink it. We had a Belgian waffle, scrambled eggs with bacon, and a veggie omelette with home fries. The Belgian waffle was crispy on the outside but not completely cooked on the inside, the eggs were decent without any noticeable whites, the bacon was so sad. I took one bite and spit it out, which as a bacon lover was frustrating because there were three crispy pieces on my plate. It was poor quality with an off taste. I feel terrible for the staff that works here because they were friendly, cheerful, and good at their jobs but if the food isn't good none of that matters. read more

We have eaten breakfast at this diner several times in the last 2 months and the food has been awesome and the service is great. Have had several different waiters and all of them have been amazing. The food is out in a few minutes after we ordered. We have tried several different breakfast places in the area and this by far is the best. Friendly servers, great food and fast service. The food was okay.... the experience was bad. I ordered food this morning off of the fact that we could have the food delivered. They immediately called me and said that they couldn't do delivery because of how busy they were. I appreciate the phone call and I asked for a second to just confirm with my SO that he was fine going and getting it or if he just wanted to cancel since we were feeling lazy. I was met with attitude from the hostess when I asked for a second. A moment later when we figured we would go ahead and pick it up, she let me know that it would take 25 minutes. 25 minutes later we were on the way (we live 4 minutes away) and I received another attitude filled call asking about how much longer I was going to be and if I'd rather they just throw away the food. I arrived 2 minutes later to pick up the food and was promptly told that it was ready 15 minutes prior and I was late. Their hostess needs a lesson in customer service. read more

I'M POISONED FROM THESE FOODS ! The most DISGUSTING restaurant I've ever seen in my life! The food was so gross, I could tell that the food was not fresh and the oil reused over and over. I got so sick after eating there. Also they say they offer gluten free options but the food is cross contaminated. Gluten free has to be cooked on a different grill. My friend who ordered gluten free said she was sure there was either gluten in the food or that it was cooked on the same grill because she was so ill after eating there. It is not acceptable! They never change the OIL ! They cook all the dishes in the same place im sure.. The staff is also rude, one of the girls Ro, i noticed was smoking cigarette, is that allowed indoors? She just smoked inside and then brought out food after so disgusting. She is a big bitch! I was very hungry so we attempted to eat but i regret doing so. I do not suggest going there... This diner was less than 10 minutes away from our hotel. We ordered breakfast food and the food was tasty. Our server, Mayada provided great customer service despite my boyfriend feeling sick and just ordering a bowl of grits. She was polite, professional and friendly. We have eaten here a few times now. The food has always been good diner food. On some of our previous trips the service was a bit lacking due to the wait staff just being too busy and I was watching them and they would never really scan around with their eyes to see if their other tables needed assistance. Wow! This place leaves a lot to be desired, they are definitely missing the basics! It was unfortunate, our waitress really needed more on the job training, she was completely lost and then annoyed because she just wasn't cutting it. Sadly, her 'best service' was when she disappeared for long periods of time, leaving us to have to approach another waitress and finally receive our requested items. I understand they were short staffed, but for those who were there, more organization was definitely needed. Running around disorganized is not going to give you satisfied customers. For example, half of our food was quickly delivered (that can be a plus, assuming the rest is still cooking and will be delivered shortly), however we had no silverware, nothing to drink and had to get up and approach a different waitress to receive our missing items and food (mind you, we had already asked our first waitress and were ignored or missed when trying to flag down waitresses, which led to us having to get up from our table and approach them). read more

We were excited to come try Gainesville Diner. Very few breakfast options in Haymarket/Gainesville. Arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday morning. It was fairly busy. We were first in line to be seated, they had us wait 5 or so minutes by the hostess stand. There were 5 tables waiting to be bussed. Once seated we sat for 5+ minutes with no service. Several tables remained untouched with food still on them. Heard two customers requesting their checks and having to flag down their waiter. We left, I waited longer than normal since this place was newer. Doubt I will return. Maybe the food is great I did not get the opportunity to find out. read more

We went there for breakfast. Food was really good and good portions. Service was really slow. Several staff walked by our table, but no one could see that I needed more coffee even when I tried to get their attention since our waiter only came around every 15 minutes or so. Have been waiting for an actual diner around here, and this place did not disappoint. Food was great! A little bit of a wait, but I'd rather wait then have rushed, over cooked, greasy food with a generic taste. My husband and I both agreed food tasted home cooked! Prices weren't bad either and portion size was pretty decent! It was inviting and loved the diversity of the staff, which made it very welcoming for us! Space is a little tight, but that's not a big deal when the foods good! They are fairly new, so I hope they get a chance and I hope they stay open! They are planning to have later hours. We'll never go to Ihop or Denny's again! They are the same owners as the Marshal Diner which has been open for 15 years. read more

I'm a regular here at this diner and I've never once had a bad meal. I saw a few bad reviews on here and felt the need to write this. The portion of food you get for the price is quite incredible. I mean I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. It all tastes so fresh. I usually get the greek omelet for breakfast with homefries and salmon for dinner. The soup was excellent. They put loads of chicken in there and you can tell it's homemade. The staff is also very friendly. You can tell that they genuinely care about the experience you have. Ro is always the server of my choice. Beautiful, respectful young girl, and is a very experienced hard worker. I recommend this place to all my friends. read more

Unfortunately I was unable to try the food. My girlfriend and I were seated at a dirty table. No big deal, was just going to ask the server to wipe it off. Well a server never came. Two parties of 5 were seated after us and the staff started attending to them before us. We still waited to see if anyone would even look our way...nothing. So we got up and made our way out. We addressed the matter with the person that seated us. He just made a bunch of excuses. Basically they just couldn't handle the amount of people there. They were definitely understaffed. I would have apologized and tried to rectify the matter instead he made excuses and let us walk out. I'll be very surprised if this place stays open. read more
