If you are looking for what is in my opinion the best food in Gainesville we've tried so far, this is it. The bartenders we have met so far like Lauren are great! The owner is a little grumpy though and we've heard he stresses when it's busy, but they deserve to be busy. If the divey atmosphere doesn't bother you, but you enjoy excellent food, then, please, check them out. This is our favorite place to have a bit of a date night throughout the week. This prices are incredibly reasonable and fairly cheap for the area and considering how good the food and atmosphere is for our silly selves, we are starting to visit quite often. Went on a Friday evening and it was... kind of a let down.. Empty and quiet. Maybe six people and the bartender watching TV. Not sure how it stays in business.. The bartender was a little clueless, you can't smoke weed on the porch, but she can smoke her weed vape inside. I thought bartenders were not allowed to smoke weed on the job? Go figure. Alcohol selection rather limited. The kind of bar you go to feel alone. Oh.. and they don't sell coke products, only PEPSI. Rum and Coke? Nope. Pepsi... who serves PEPSI in a bar ?? This is a "dive bar" with excellent food. The staff and patrons were VERY friendly and welcoming. Sat at the bar, and ordered the recommended fried rice (chicken). My brother came to visit me and I decided to take him to MPV. My Coworkers said they had really good food and great hospitality but when we went there, no one wanted to serve us and no one wanted to speak to us. If you are looking for a dive bar, this is the hidden gem of Gainesville, Virginia. There is more to do here than any other bar. They have ping pong, pool tables, beer pong, darts, corn hole and some classic board games. Happy Hour is from 1pm to 7:30pm. Don't go at 12pm. It's not open. Show up at 1pm. The food is incredible and delicious. The shrimp fried rice and bourbon chicken are my top two favorite dishes. Our expectations weren't set high as we read about poor service and questionable sanitary conditions on our approach, but we were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival. Service was prompt, prices were reasonable, and the jukebox was bumping. Bar games galore set the stage for an atmosphere that was a great fit for us. The apps that we ordered were very good. The clientele is what you would expect at a venue like this-an uneasy mixture of bikers, old people, single mothers, former athletes who never quite made it, and the socially awkward who like the bar scene but drink O'Douls. Being short, having an attitude, putting his hand in my face,rolling eyes, slamming items down on the counter, not allowing for a comfortable atmosphere. For the customer service received, this place doesn't even deserve 1 star, but I had to pick something to post the review... drove all the way from Fredericksburg to visit this bar for the first time tonight and it was a horrible experience! Came in here to get some food, drinks and to watch the game. Took about ten minutes for anyone to come up and greet us. When the bartender came up he had an attitude right away. He said what do you want? We said we would like to order some food first. He said kitchens closed. We asked him this early? He said kitchens closed, you going to drink or not? We said again we were trying to get something to eat. We asked about the abc law that states you have to serve food while you are serving alcohol. So have been going here for a few years now and today we show up and Jackson is a complete jackass. I actually brought friends and my wife to eat there tonight. For someone who is a regular he acted like he was pissed and told us nothing was available to cook because he was too busy and did t have time- told us to go somewhere else if we wanted to eat- nice way to run a business. That's weird. My first review was somehow deleted. Anyway, this place is dirty, service is terrible (sat at a table by the window), and the people were not friendly. terrible. they charged my card 3 times after telling them not to because i was paying in cash. So I let them hold my card. After 3 people ran it and I told the 3 not to, they looked like they returned the funds, but when I wokeup to check my acct the next morning It was over drafted with 3 different amounts, none of which matched the $23 and change that was my tab at the end of the night. I called in next day and spoke with JACKSON who in turn asked me for way too much personal information just to return money that was wrongfully charged. Im not a local so of course I cant just come back to give you my card back when its your fault. He told me YESTERDAY (JACKSON) that he returned the final payment of 26.22, yet today, 24 hours later, its still pending as a transaction into their system. So JACKSON, If you really care about your job and establishment I suggest returning peoples money and running your business right before legal consultation is seeked. Dont ever go here.
