My review my be a little biased because I ended up here only after trying to take a friend to try Cantina Loco for the first time (but there was a 2 hr wait and the bar was packed). Nonetheless, I feel my review is pretty accurate (putting my love for Cantina Loco aside)...
Like I said we did not plan on coming here so we didn't have any reservations when we arrived around 6pm. We were just going to go sit at the bar and order, but it was packed. Luckily there was a table readily available so we opted for that. We asked the waitress if there was happy hour or any drink specials. She pointed to a tiny wine/beer list on the table in a plastic holder and said, "no specials, but there's a list....and we also have a full bar". Ok - so now I have been daydreaming of Cantina's margaritas all day and I have to settle for this...ugh. I decided on a glass of Pinot Noir ($6), my friend had a different glass of wine, similarly priced. The wine came in TINY glasses. It reminded me of small wine glasses I had at home...souvenirs from a wine tasting I went on. It was definitely not what I expect when going out and ordering a glass of wine.
Upon gazing at the menu I was unimpressed. Again, maybe because I had fish tacos on my mind, or maybe I was turned off by the price of $10.95 for a salad (really?!?!). Well upon reviewing farther...I wasn't in the mood for any sandwiches or chicken wings, so I decided on the Chicken taco salad (that's as close as I was getting to a taco that night). My friend actually ordered the same, after we conversed immensely over the shock of it being $10.95, PLUS 75 cents extra for jalapeños. It really irritates me when establishments charge for extras - YET - it's less than a dollar. Like really, I am buying an already $11 taco salad and you can't include jalapeños? Whatever. We both opted to dip into our change purses for the jalapeños. I will stop complaining on the price of the salad now, because when it came out we were both shocked....it was HUGE! Before even taking a bite of it, I said "ok totally worth the price!" It was literally two salads in one. Either large enough for two people to share (not just as a side salad) or enough to eat for dinner and have the same sized portion as a left over! There was a LARGE piece of grilled chicken a top the salad, only sliced vertically. I wish they would have chopped up the chicken more, because due to the size of the salad it was nearly impossible to cut on top of everything. The salad was really good. (Note - it was supposed to come with a chili sauce dressing, I didn't get this).
After we finished eating, we had to basically ask the waitress for boxes...I guess she couldn't tell after seeing us not eat for 15 minutes that we were done. At the same time she was going to get the boxes, we both opted for another glass of wine. She delivered the boxes to the table, and then the glasses of wine seconds later. We hadn't even taken a sip of our glass of wine when she came over again and said, "Is there anything else I can get you or are you all set?" Ummm no, you just gave us wine and now we would like to drink it. I felt at this point we were being rushed. She then delivered the check to our table (still full glasses of wine on table).
Overall - Food was better than I anticipated and well worth the cost. Not impressed with the wine or wine glasses. And the service was a lacking. read more
