Messicana (tomatoes, mozzarella, spicy salame, beans, onions)

From the street, it's a regular cafe / bar spot. Great location on the street; it is actually a good spot if you're a bit away from the main Amalfi center. Upstairs, there's the dine-in seating with full menu (drinks, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and desserts) with a good coastline view (my wife and I went in for dinner, so we couldn't see the daytime view). Mare-terra insalata was delicious. Spicy salame pizza was tasty; enough so that the pizza nearly falling apart with the mozzarella and toppings sliding off the crust wasn't that bad of an experience. Afterward, we got a latte macchiato and cappuccino decaf with one of the pastries -- don't know the name, but it was thinly-layered with chocolate and cream. All three were great. Was able to pay with VISA :-) If visiting Italy, I'm sure you'll get used to the smoking almost everywhere. In this case, it includes the upstairs dining area; while it fits just 9 square tables, one person smoking will be strong enough to make a difference. Ciao!

solid place on the coast to get pizza and drinks. Best part of the upstairs dining room was the incredible view.

Well, it wasn't worth building a trip around it, but we did really love Amalfi Coast so in the end it worked out. As for this restaurant, I wouldn't go for dinner. Food just isn't very good. If ur in the area already (not spending crazy $ to take a water taxi or drive a distance), stop by for a cocktail. Having a drink here is worth it if you're nearby so would definitely recommend that. The bar is the only portion that's part of the cave and truly, many places along Praiano and neighboring areas r built into the cliff so it's not all that special. Unless you're arriving via water taxi, the walk to this place is a lot so wear shoes that u love to hike in-lol. We paid an additional 15Euro/pp to have VIP seating right along the water. Not worth it. U could easily sit on the patio and have equal views and experience. One of the nice things about Europe is often that they don't rush u as much as US restaurants. Not here. They were ready to grab r order immediately and when we asked to start with a drink and appetizer then order in a bit, they told us they had to put in r complete order at 1 time. Seems odd since they were able to add drinks as needed, but whatevs. The linguini with anchovy (it was more of an essence) was amazing! Would totally recommend it and we don't even like anchovies. However, everything else was meh to bad. The lamb ribs were a pile of fat and not good. The filet was really overcooked so rough to eat. The tagliatelle with ragu had almost no meat in it. Probably spent $100usd pp without alcohol and would definitely not recommend for dinner. *Tip - if you're walking back up that huge hill after drinks/dinner, stop off at the hotel just above Il Pirate and have a cocktail or dessert there. They have an elevator that will take u up to the top street that u can use if you're either a guest or dining there. I promise u it's worth the $ for the ride.

It took a minute to find the restaurant because you have to walk down a lot of stairs to get to the bottom of the mountain (like most places along the Amalfi Coast). The food was AMAZING -- one of the best meals when we were in Italy! I had the pasta with anchovies at the recommendation of our server; I'm not an anchovies gal, but this was DELICIOUS. The ricotta and pear cheesecake was also one of the best that I've had. Would highly recommend. And of course, the views are amazing!

Because of the size, there is energy from the staff and customers who seem to know what they are in for. The service was excellent with staff constantly roaming around. And of course the old guy mentioned in many reviews who is the Grandpa. He floats from one table to the next making sure everyone is having a great time, and enjoying their food. Our food was delicious and filling. They also had an excellent wine selection. Desserts were definitely satisfying. I do not know how my wife and I finished it all, though it was tasty.

We were promptly seated and ordered some of the local white wine which is always great and super inexpensive. We split a few antipasti including a misto which had, among other offerings, fried zucchini flowers and crispy calamari, all were great. I selected the gnocchi which came with a light cheese sauce that accented the fresh spinach pasta. be advised that service, like most southern Italian locations will be slower, but that is part of the charm, you won't be rushed. Also be prepared to be sung to by the owner's father who loves to entrain the guests. Yhey have a free courtesy car if you are in Praiano.
